Description and characteristics of the variety

White Angel F1 is a mid-season hybrid variety. The first harvest is harvested 50-55 days after germination.

Shoots are characterized by indeterminate growth, the main shoot grows without restrictions. Many side stems grow from it. Flowering is of a mixed type, but with a predominance of female inflorescences. The leaves are medium-sized, rich green in color, with an irregularly shaped edge. From 1 node there are 2 ovaries.

Cultivation is carried out in various regions and conditions:

  • in heated film and temporary greenhouses;
  • in greenhouses and tunnels.

Planting in open ground is possible.

An important condition is timely removal of fruits (once every 2-3 days). If you miss the deadline, then in the second wave the cucumbers lose their marketability and exquisite taste. The fruits become barrel-like, the skin becomes very rough, and the seed nest grows.

Authorship belongs to S.F. Gavrish and a group of breeders - Shevelev, Portyankin, Shamshina.

Description of fruits:

  • length no more than 10 cm;
  • diameter 2-3 cm;
  • light olive skin;
  • pubescence is barely noticeable;
  • tubercles are weakly expressed;
  • spines white;
  • average weight up to 90-100 g;
  • The pulp is juicy, sweetish, and has a loose consistency.

The fruits are used for fresh consumption - in salads, slices, assorted dishes, light summer dishes, cucumber juices. When preserved, these vegetables have an interesting taste, reminiscent of squash.

Features of care

Caring for cucumbers involves watering and fertilizing, shaping the bush, and also taking care of the soil.

Watering and fertilizers

An insufficient amount of moisture has a bad effect on the fruits, deforming them, making them bitter and soft, so special attention should be paid to watering. Water for irrigation should be warm and settled. Watering should be done every day after sunset, especially in dry weather. During the rainy season, you need to water the beds when the soil becomes dry.

Important! You only need to water the soil near the roots, without touching the fruits and leaves. They are only allowed to be sprayed with warm water once a week.

Fertilizing White Angel is necessary to enhance its growth and improve the quality of the fruit. During the growing season, it is recommended to carry out 2-3 feedings. For this variety, it is recommended to use a complex of organic and mineral fertilizers.

Nitrophoska, which is a mixture of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, is used as mineral fertilizers. Among organic fertilizers, mullein and bird droppings are popular. Add 1 tsp per 10 liters of water. sulfate and 500 ml mullein and let it brew for 2 hours. For 1 m² of cucumbers, 5-6 liters of solution is enough.

Bush formation

White Angel does not need to form a bush, since fruiting occurs both on the central stem and on the side branches. However, some gardeners recommend promptly removing side shoots if there are too many of them.

Soil care

Weeding is an important procedure, as it not only removes weeds, but also helps oxygen penetrate to the roots of the plant, which promotes crop growth. Loosening must be carried out when a dense crust appears on the ground. Loosening prevents the appearance of weeds and provides oxygen access to the roots.

Mulching has a positive effect on the White Angel variety. In this case, the surface of the beds is covered with a layer of mulch (mown grass or peat).

Mulching helps attract earthworms to the beds, which enrich the soil with humus.

How to grow these unusual cucumbers?

First you need to prepare the soil. White cucumbers are quite demanding on the soil, so it must meet the following parameters:

Many summer residents claim that white cucumbers are tastier than green ones.

  • have good fertility;
  • absorb water and pass it through just as well so that there is no stagnation;
  • the soil should have a slightly acidic reaction, closer to neutral (pH 6.5-7).

The most suitable soil for cucumbers is considered to be a mixture of humus and turf soil. It is also recommended to add sawdust from coniferous wood. Thanks to this technique, the soil becomes loose and drains water well. Potassium sulfate, superphosphate and ammonium nitrate are used as mineral additives. It is advisable to add quicklime and wood ash to the soil, which will significantly reduce the risk of fungus developing in the soil. 25-day-old seedlings are planted in prepared and disinfected soil.

The hole is completely filled with water, a pot with a young cucumber is immersed there and covered with soil up to the level of the root collar. It is recommended to cover the top with mulch, which will prevent moisture from evaporating and prevent the formation of an earthen crust.

A few days after planting, young plants are tied to trellises and then regularly twisted around a rope through each internode. Since the main representatives of white varieties are long-stemmed and can reach 2 m in height, their growth is limited by pinching.

Planting White Angel cucumbers

White Angel cucumbers are planted according to standard rules of agricultural technology. Many vegetable growers sow seeds immediately in open ground. To get a quick harvest, you can plant the variety as seedlings. It is advisable to adhere to certain planting dates.

Landing dates

When planting White Angel type seeds in open ground, you need to wait until the soil warms up to a temperature of +14-15 degrees. Cucumbers are planted in greenhouses a little earlier. The planting time depends on the climatic conditions of the region where the crop is grown. In central Russia this is the end of May - beginning of June.

Site preparation

The White Angel variety is planted in sunny areas with slight partial shade, with loose, fertile soil. Loamy soil type is preferable. The soil for cucumbers is prepared in the fall. The following work is carried out:

  • remove weeds and their roots;
  • dig the ground deeply;
  • They apply, simultaneously with digging, organic fertilizers (10-12 kg of rotted manure or humus per 1 square meter).

In the spring, before planting White Angel cucumbers, you need to dig up the soil again and spill it with a weak solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection.

Then the beds are formed. Longitudinal grooves are dug on their surface, which are filled with humus, and then covered with fertile peat from an agricultural store. The beds are covered with plastic wrap and left for 5-6 days to warm up. After the specified period, the film is removed and the cucumbers are planted.

In a greenhouse, the soil is prepared in a similar way. All greenhouse floors and frames are treated for disinfection.

Planting seeds

It is recommended to germinate the seeds of the White Angel f1 variety before planting in open ground, wrapping them in a damp cloth. The sprouts will hatch in 2-3 days. Next, before planting, the seed material is placed in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection for 2-3 hours. Cucumber seeds are planted in an open bed, buried 3-4 cm into the soil and placed with their noses up.

Transplanting seedlings into the ground

Plants of the White Angel variety are planted on previously prepared soil. Small holes are formed, 10-12 cm deep, then superphosphate (10 g) is added to each hole and moistened. Next, the sprouts are placed in the holes and covered with soil. After planting, each cucumber seedling is watered abundantly.

Planting scheme

When planting the White Angel f1 cucumber variety in a permanent place of growth, use a standard scheme, thanks to which the plants are freely placed in the garden bed and grow in comfortable conditions. Description of the landing scheme:

  • between seedlings – 20 cm;
  • between rows – 20 cm.

It is recommended to place cucumber plants of the White Angel variety in a checkerboard pattern.

Cucumber “White Angel” – review

How does “angel cucumber” differ from regular cucumber and is it tasty for people to eat?

This review continues my favorite country theme. The salad is almost out) There were tomatoes, it’s time to write about cucumbers.

It’s unlikely that I would write a review for any ordinary variety, but on the occasion of this variety, I think it makes sense to spend a little time telling you about it.

After all, it’s hard to pass by when you see these white ones among the huge variety of seeds of ordinary green cucumbers.

I apologize for the appearance of the packaging, I thought of photographing it at the end of summer, and by that time it had seen a lot.

On the back there is all the necessary growing information.

And so, the hybrid cucumber variety “White Angel”

Some official information

Considering that my greenhouse can only fit 10 roots, this amount should have been enough.

Planting, fertilizing and other important points

Cucumbers are known to be very demanding on 3 factors for maximum growth and fruiting

  1. Warm
  2. Humidity (including watering)
  3. Nitrogen fertilizers

Based on the above, I try to comply with all 3 conditions, however, it does not always work out.

Nature makes its own adjustments.

At the end of May, I sow cucumber seeds in pots and cover them at night with another film on top, because by this time the soil in the greenhouse has not yet had time to warm up properly, and then I send the already grown plants to the garden bed.

So I did. The little angels grew up just like the rest.

But at the end of June, our Leningrad region experienced a serious downfall, in which any sane cucumber will refuse to grow.

But even before the onset of cold weather, I noticed that all the flowers on the “White Angel” were male.

At a time when its normal green counterparts were bearing fruit in full, this one was not going to.

Of course, I had to act decisively and open the vine so that it would go into side shoots, but a good thought comes later.

I didn’t see the fruits until mid-July.

Shape, color and other important points

In shape it looks like other short-fruited cucumbers, the only difference is that this one constantly strives to “barrel”. I'll call it that. That is, at some point the greenery begins to round out. And if you bring it to such an oval state, then inside you will find solid seeds.

You need to catch the fruits in a certain embryonic state, which I have not always succeeded in doing.

I will note this fact as the second negative.

Color - yes, it really is white.

Only when cut can one notice the presence of a light green pigment.

Thorns - they exist. But there are not such a crazy number of them as the seller shows us on the packaging.

And the cucumber itself looks completely different from the picture.

The aroma is classic cucumber. Perhaps not so strongly expressed, but it is definitely cucumber.

About organoleptic properties

What does an angel taste like?

Well, for me, nothing special.

Cucumber, like a cucumber. Those that have managed to turn into bombs are not very tasty. I think few people like to eat cucumber seeds.

In general, they have a neat appearance and are perceived quite normally in a salad. The properties are the same as those of a classic cucumber.

They worked best for children. You didn’t even have to cut them, they would gobble them whole. I came across bitter specimens among those that were collected already in September.

Perhaps the cold and insufficient watering took their toll.

I didn’t try to salt or pickle them; the children ate everything fresh.

Pros of a hybrid

Minuses

  • The package does not indicate that the central stem needs to be pinched to get a normal harvest.
  • cucumbers are prone to “barreling” - there are many large seeds inside, the shape of a barrel.
  • I didn’t notice the declared bunched ovaries

Will I imprison the “White Angel” again – NO.

Do I recommend it to you? Give it a try. Just take into account everything I wrote in my review.

Thanks for stopping by.

Have a good harvest.
