Saracen F1 cucumbers - characteristics and rules for growing the variety

Characteristics of the variety

Saracen f1 is a parthenocarpic cucumber developed by crossing several different species. The hybrid was bred in Turkey by breeders from the Yuksel Seeds company and is intended more for cultivation in greenhouse conditions.

The variety does not require pollination by bees or other types of insects, therefore it is called parthenocarpic and has a lot of fans among domestic farmers

Description of the plant

The early ripening variety is indeterminate, self-pollinating. The rhizome has many shoots and is deeply rooted in the soil, due to which it is resistant to rot diseases.

The leaves are green in color and medium in size. The leaf axils contain two cucumbers, and 5 fruits are tied in the nodes.

Description of the fruit

Saracen cucumber f1, the description of the fruit speaks of the excellent taste of the vegetable, for which gardeners have long loved it. The peel is dark green, crispy, covered with tubercles. The pulp is tender and sweetish.

The average weight of the fruit is 80 g, the size is up to 20 cm. The ripening period is on average 40 days.

Saracen F1

Recommended for film greenhouses for spring and autumn rotation. Saracen F1 is a parthenocarpic cucumber of the vegetative type with high growth vigor. Recommended for film greenhouses for spring and autumn rotation. In the summer-autumn rotation, fruiting begins on the 32-35th day, in the spring - on the 35-40th day. A strong, rapidly developing root system makes it the most resistant to wilting diseases. High degree of resistance to powdery mildew, root rot, tolerant to downy mildew.

Thanks to its powerful root system, Saracin F1 is able to grow and bear fruit in soils infected with root-knot nematode.

The hybrid is unpretentious in nutrition.

The hybrid is stable in fruiting, with guaranteed high and stable product quality:

the lowest percentage of non-standard;

forms 1-2 ovaries in the internodes on the central stem and up to 5 ovaries in the internodes of the stepsons. The ovaries do not fall off. During regeneration, it shoots bouquet ovaries along the central stem.

Planting density - up to 2.5 plants per 1 sq.m.

Saracen F1 successfully passed production tests in various conditions of Ukraine and southern Russia (film and glass greenhouses) and, based on the totality of data, took first place among cucumbers cultivated in the south.

Fruit characteristics:

- heavy fruit of regular cylindrical shape, genetically dark green in color, with frequent tubercles of medium size, black-thorned, fruit length 12-15 cm

— transportable, the skin is dense, but not rough

- aromatic, with high taste qualities

- a fruit of a universal type for use - suitable for salads and pickling (during pickling, a void does not form inside the fruit)

- fastest fruit filling

- the fruit grows proportionally, without loss of color and shape - the main difference from the hybrids on the market

— Yield of standard products 95-98%

— Due to large, proportional, beautiful fruits, the time for harvesting and sorting is reduced

— Saracen F1 packed in a banana box is 1.5 kg heavier than the standard!

Stable high quality seed production:

- well-made seeds

— there are no viral diseases in the seed material

Features of growing hybrid cucumber Saracen F1

Saracen F1 is a parthenocarpic cucumber of the vegetative type, with high growth vigor, so it cannot be fattened. On the bottom meter of the cucumber plant, leave all the fruits, but remove all the stepsons and leaves so that they do not shade the fruits. Without light, the fruits may develop hook-shaped.

All stepsons formed above 1 m are pinched to 1-2 leaves (depending on planting density).

The recommended planting density is up to 2.5 plants per 1 sq.m.

Saracen F1, unlike generative type hybrids, is not afraid of sudden changes in day and night temperatures, long-term low or, conversely, elevated temperatures. Stress and unfavorable conditions, on the contrary, stimulate fruit formation in this hybrid.

The limiting factors for Saracen fruiting are light and mandatory ventilation of the greenhouse.

Saracen F1 has very high yield potential. From 1 sq.m. it produces 20 kg of fruit or more due to a long growing season. During the first month of fruiting, the yield is about 10-11 kg/sq.m.

In film greenhouses it is better suited for the second rotation, since it begins to bear fruit a little later than generative type hybrids and mass harvests occur during a period with unfavorable growing conditions in unheated greenhouses. The Saracen's high stress resistance allows it to reveal its potential in such conditions more than generative hybrids.

In the summer-autumn rotation, the first harvest of 3-4 marketable fruits from the plant is removed on the 32-35th day from emergence. In the spring rotation, Saracen produces a larger harvest than in the autumn rotation, most of which occurs in May.

It is recommended to select fruits every other day, however, even when the fruits outgrow, their proportion (ratio of fruit length to width = 3.5) is not disturbed and the color does not change (dark green).

Optimal planting pattern: (0.45 x 0.5) x 1 m.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of the vegetable crop is its high yield: 18-20 kg per square. Excellent for preparing salads and eating raw. The best pickles from f1 cucumbers are obtained by canning the fruits at the gherkin stage.

Vegetable crops are immune to certain types of fungal infections. It has a good shelf life; the fruits, being picked from the garden, retain their quality indicators for a long time. Storage in the basement for one and a half, and sometimes two weeks, does not affect the taste and appearance of the fruit.

It has strong immunity to Late blight, Peronosporosis, Nematode and Powdery mildew. The culture withstands temperature changes.

The disadvantages include the peculiarity of the variety, which manifests itself in its love for the sun. If vegetables do not receive enough light, they grow crooked.

Cucumber Saracen F1

Saracen is an early hybrid of cucumber, as the name implies, bred in Turkey by employees of the Yuksel Seeds company. Recommended for growing in private areas and film shelters. In Ukraine, this cucumber variety may be called Mozaik.

The variety does not require the help of bees to pollinate flowers. From germination to the beginning of fruiting, 35-40 days are required in the spring-summer turnover, and only 32-35 days in the summer-autumn turnover.

Plants grow with the female type of flowering and are vigorous. A powerful root system is capable of developing quickly. This contributes to good resistance to unfavorable conditions, cucumber diseases, and good yield on soil affected by root-knot nematode.

Medium size casting, green. The leaf axil contains 1-2 ovaries on the main stem, and up to 5 on the side shoots. Recommended planting density is up to 2.5 seedlings per 1 sq.m.

Fruits with medium tubercles, regular cylindrical shape. The length is 12-15 cm, weight 80-90 cm. The skin is dark green, thin. Longitudinal light stripes are not visible. The spines are white, the pubescence is frequent. Consumers note the tasty and aromatic pulp without bitterness. The marketable yield is 10-11 kg/sq.m. for one month of fruiting, and for the entire growth period it produces approximately 20 kg/sq.m. The yield of marketable products is high, 95-98%. Ripe fruits are harvested every other day.

This is a salad-oriented variety, but despite this it is suitable for canning and pickling for the winter.

The hybrid is highly resistant to brown spot, root rot, powdery mildew and cucumber mosaic virus. Doesn't require much feeding but loves a lot of light. If you don't give the plant enough light, the fruits can grow crooked. Cucumbers that are not harvested on time will not barrel.

The main advantages of the Saracen cucumber include:

  • High yield;
  • Stress resistance;
  • Not whimsical in processing;
  • Resistant to cucumber diseases.

Growing

Proper care will ensure a good harvest

There are only two ways to grow Saracen f1 cucumber:

  • seedling;
  • seminal.

Having decided on the planting method, you can begin preparing seedlings and seeds.

Seed preparation

You should select the best seeds for planting, they should be:

  • medium size;
  • no chips or dents;
  • must not be empty.

After careful selection, the planting material should be disinfected so that there are no future problems due to bush diseases. You can use any method of disinfection; this will require an antiseptic. You can use a weak solution of potassium permanganate, in which the seeds should be immersed for half an hour.

Preparing seedlings

To properly prepare seedlings for planting, you should follow some simple rules.

  1. Plant seeds 3-4 weeks before the onset of warm weather so that the sprouts are not overgrown.
  2. Pre-disinfect the seeds. For seedlings, we will need small boxes or pots in which the sprouts will develop. We fill the container with earth and moisten it, and then pierce it with seeds, keeping a distance of 4-5 cm between them. Every 3-4 days, do not forget to water future seedlings.

Planting in the soil

Planting cucumber Saracen f1 is very simple, but first you should decide on the planting condition:

  • open ground;
  • greenhouse conditions.

The landing pattern is the same under any conditions. You will need preliminary soil preparation for sowing. This is soil aeration to enrich the roots with oxygen when planting. Fertilize with chicken droppings or humus, and the soil can also be flavored with a solution of copper and calcium. Such fertilizers will further protect the root system from rot.

We plant seedlings or seeds, keeping a distance between plants of 40 cm or 2-3 bushes per 1 m2. Plant vegetables only in warm soil.

Description

"Saracin F1" is one of the few cucumber varieties that can produce a good harvest on soils infected with root-knot nematode (see photo).

Another significant advantage is that there are very few non-standard greens on the bush, that is, crooked, wrinkled and swollen. Cucumbers grow evenly, one to one, which is why they are often grown for sale. Up to 5 ovaries are formed on one node. The strength of this variety is that the ovaries do not fall off when temperature conditions change, for example, when there is a draft in the greenhouse. Unfortunately, few varieties of cucumbers are draft-resistant.

This variety is chosen by gardeners who are short on square meters. When on a standard six hundred square meters you have to figure out how and what to plant in order to reap a good harvest.

"Saracin F1" can be planted quite densely - there are about 2-5 cucumber bushes per square meter.

Plant care

As the wattle of the bush forms, it needs to be pinched and the stepsons removed so that excess leaves do not interfere with the growth and development of the plant. At the bottom up to 1 m in height, all stepsons should be removed and only the ovaries should be left. At the top of the bush, pinch over the first leaves.

You can use other methods of care, the main thing to remember is that the cucumber bush should not be thickened with leaves. This is done in order to provide sufficient sunlight.

If cucumbers are planted in greenhouse conditions, be sure to monitor the air exchange in the cover. Water as needed.

Diseases and prevention

Like any other vegetables, Saracen f1 cucumbers can get sick or be attacked by pests. Most often, vegetable crops suffer from rot and fungal infections. Various methods are used in the fight against diseases: first of all, you should always choose varieties of vegetables that have strong immunity to diseases and pests. You also need the correct selection of seeds for planting and disinfection of planting material. Such actions will help avoid planting already infected seeds.

Fertilizers and fungicides are used as preventative measures. Flavoring the soil with copper sulfate and watering it with a solution of brilliant alcohol will help avoid fungal infections and root rot. Spraying with a soda solution will help in the fight against diseases of leaves and stems.

Cucumbers "Saracen F1" - the pride of Turkish breeders

Today, not a single modern country house or garden plot can do without everyone’s favorite cucumber. At first glance, it may seem that the agricultural technology of this green strong man is as simple as shelling pears. However, in order to enjoy the crunch of a tender cucumber after ripening, you need to have knowledge and certain skills.

Varietal features

A feature of the Saracin (F1) variety is its high yield and good resistance to stress, which only further stimulate the plant to increased fruit production. This parthenocarpic variety is capable of developing a powerful root system, thanks to which it surpasses many varieties in growth power and is able to resist common viral, bacterial and fungal diseases: powdery mildew, rot, spotting, mosaic and nematode.
