Every tomato grower dreams of harvesting a rich harvest of tomatoes. Ideally, different varieties and hybrids. And it would be good to choose ones for which a minimum set of agrotechnical measures is sufficient. Such tomatoes exist. People call them unpretentious.
There are hardly any plants that don’t require any care at all. Sowing and growing seedlings, watering, planting in the ground, weeding or mulching, scheduled fertilizing and treatment against infections - this list of actions is mandatory for any cultivated plant (even for greenery and flowers). Of course, tomatoes are no exception. But, as they say, different varieties differ. And even more so for a hybrid. You can watch over some of them day and night - and still be left without a harvest due to external circumstances. And others respond to even minimal attention with “fruitful” gratitude. And now we will tell you about them.
Tomato Boni MM
An early variety of tomato. The ripening period is approximately 83-88 days. Recommended for growing in open ground.
The bush is standard determinate, up to 50 cm high. Does not require pinching or staking. High-yielding. He doesn’t have time to get sick with late blight, because the crop yields quickly and all at once.
The fruits are flat-round, with indistinct ribbing, and red. Their weight reaches 90-100 g. The pulp is aromatic and meaty. Tomatoes are suitable for canning and fresh consumption.
Harvesting
Thanks to gradual ripening, you can enjoy the taste of fresh tomatoes of the Ogorodnik variety for a fairly long period of time. Despite the density of the skin, for transportation over long distances it is better to remove unripe fruits. For them to turn red, it is enough to keep them in the sun for several days. You can harvest in any available container. It is better to store in a cool place.

The Ogorodnik variety is the optimal solution for growing in different regions. If you take into account all the care features, then after a little more than three months, you can harvest a lot of delicious tomatoes.
Tomato Explosion
An early ripening variety (about 93-100 days pass from emergence to harvest). Recommended for growing in greenhouses and open ground.
The plants are low (45-60 cm tall), compact, of a determinate type, require tying to a support and, partially, pinching. In simple clusters there are 4-5 fruits.
The variety is high-yielding, resistant to low and high temperatures, and has a fairly high immunity to late blight, blossom end and root rot.
Fruits weighing up to 100 g, round in shape, bright red in color. The pulp is aromatic, fleshy, taste with some sourness. Universal tomatoes.
Appearance
In appearance, the fruits of the Pudovik tomato resemble the fruits of the Siberian varieties Velmozha and Heavyweight of Siberia, but the bulk of the tomatoes are larger in size. Both the shape and color of all these three varieties are completely identical, causing a feeling of excellent taste and sweetness, which is justified when tasting tomatoes.
In appearance, Pudovik tomatoes are typical large raspberry-colored hearts
Tomato Summer resident
Mid-early variety (about 97-115 days from germination to harvest). Recommended for growing in open ground.
Plants are low-growing (up to 80 cm), semi-spreading, determinate type. Standard bush. In simple clusters there are 4-6 fruits.
The variety is very unpretentious in cultivation, high-yielding, bears fruit consistently even in dry or overly wet years, and is resistant to most diseases (especially fusarium and blossom end rot).
Fruits weighing 130-200 g, flat-round in shape, bright red in color, not prone to cracking. The pulp is dense, juicy, fleshy, the taste is slightly sour. The fruits are universally used, tolerate transportation well and can be stored for a long time.
How to care for tomatoes
To obtain the desired harvest and proper plant growth, you need to know how to properly care for tomatoes.
Determinate varieties include such varieties as: “Dubok”, “Torbey”, “Gina”, “Stolypin”, “Belyi Naliv”, “Tatyana” and “Sanka”.
Watering
Tomatoes are demanding when it comes to watering. To avoid damaging the trunks and leaves, it is better to choose drip irrigation. Young bushes are watered once a week with 1 liter of water per bush. Adult plants should receive water daily in hot and dry weather. On cloudy days - no more than once every 3 days.
Feeding
On average, it is recommended to fertilize tomatoes up to 4 times per season. Any mineral complex with nitrogen and potassium, diluted mullein or bird droppings are suitable for this. Natural fertilizers are diluted as follows: 0.5 liters of manure per 10 liters of water
It is important to let it sit for several days before use. In addition, one-time treatments with an aqueous solution of superphosphate can be carried out.
Important! Fertilizers should be selected depending on the type of tomatoes. The missing elements need to be added to the soil to make it as suitable as possible for tomatoes.
Stepsoning
The formation of a bush of this variety can be done in two ways:
- 1 stem for growing in open ground;
- 3 stems for greenhouse growth;
- with transfer of the growth point to a side shoot in greenhouses.
Tomato planting scheme
Soil care
“Ogorodnik” tomatoes love moisture, so that there is enough of it in the ground, they also regularly weed out weeds, which not only pollute the soil, but also draw water and nutrients from it. To prevent moisture from quickly evaporating after watering, it is recommended to loosen the soil. Ideally, mulch can be placed between the rows to minimize evaporation and the appearance of weeds. This could be mown grass or hay, or rather anything that will not allow the sun's rays to pass through.
Tying up a bush
To prevent the branches and trunk from breaking under the weight of the fruit, it is recommended to tie up the tomato bushes. This is done quite simply: they drive a peg about 1 m high at a distance of 15 cm from the bush and tie the bush to it using a rope.
Find out how to properly tie tomatoes.
Preventative treatment
In order to minimize the chance of crop disease, it is recommended to know some nuances:
- use good soil for growing, regularly fertilize tomatoes and ensure proper watering;
- completely healthy plants resist diseases and problems more easily;
- systematically remove weeds and debris to minimize the number of places where insects can breed;
- Clean gardening tools and equipment to ensure they do not transmit disease;
- remove diseased plants in a timely manner to reduce the spread of the problem;
- Avoid composting diseased leaves or plants;
- “Gardener” is recommended to water only by the drip method.
Tomato Gina
Mid-season variety (about 110-120 days pass from emergence to harvest). Recommended for growing in greenhouses and open ground.
The plants are low (40-60 cm tall), compact, weakly branched, determinate type, do not require pinching. In simple clusters there are 4-5 fruits.
The variety is high-yielding, unpretentious in cultivation, has a fairly high immunity to fusarium, rot and verticillium, bears fruit well in all weather conditions, and does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature.
The fruits weigh 200-350 g, round in shape, slightly ribbed, bright red in color, not prone to cracking. The skin is strong, the flesh is aromatic, juicy, fleshy, the taste is sour. The fruits are universally used, tolerate transportation well and can be stored for a long time.
Tomato Mystery
A mid-early variety recommended for growing in open ground. The ripening period is 95-100 days.
The bushes are low (about 30-40 cm in height), but quite lush. The plant does not require pinching, but due to its high and consistent yield (up to 2.5 kg per plant), staking to a support is desirable. The tomato is tolerant to low light and resistant to a number of diseases.
The fruits are medium-sized, smooth and dense, weighing about 80-100 g, and do not crack. They taste sweet. Suitable for canning, pickling and fresh consumption.
Transplantation to a permanent place
Young seedlings are moved to a permanent place 55-60 days after sowing the seeds. By this point, with proper care, the seedlings reach a height of 25-30 cm and have 5-7 true leaves.
The soil should be loose and moderately nutritious. An excessive amount of organic and mineral substances in it will contribute to too active growth of green mass without forming ovaries.
It is not recommended to plant tomatoes after nightshade crops, which have similar diseases to tomatoes, which can leave behind contaminated plant debris and soil.
Suitable precursors include onions, garlic, members of the pumpkin family, and herbs.
Planting scheme: 2-3 bushes per m². Too thick growth will not only make maintenance difficult, but will also significantly reduce crop yield.
Tomato Cadet
A mid-season variety with an average ripening period of 105-110 days. Recommended for cultivation in open ground and in greenhouses.
The bushes are compact, about 50-60 cm high, very strong and productive: 5-6 tomatoes are formed in a bunch. It is advisable to tie the plants to a support, since they fall under the weight of the fruit.
The fruits weigh 50-70 g and have time to ripen even in short summer conditions. Tomatoes are distinguished by their elongated shape, density and transportability. They store well and at the same time have a sweetish taste. Suitable for whole-fruit canning, drying, and also for adding to salads.
Tomato Kaspar F1
Mid-season hybrid (about 100-115 days pass from emergence to harvest). Recommended for growing in greenhouses and open ground.
The plants are low (up to 1 m tall), compact, determinate type, and do not require pinching. In simple clusters there are 4-5 fruits.
The hybrid is high-yielding, unpretentious in cultivation, bears fruit for a long time, has a fairly high immunity to fungal diseases, and is resistant to low temperatures.
The fruits weigh 120-140 g, elongated, bright red in color, not prone to cracking. The peel is dense, the flesh is fleshy, the taste is slightly sour. The fruits are universally used, tolerate transportation well and can be stored for a long time.
I. Hybrids
Tomato varieties according to growth are conventionally divided into tall, medium-sized and low-growing:
- tall - reach a height of 2 m or more;
- medium-sized - have a height of about 1 - 1.5 m;
- low-growing - usually do not exceed a height of 0.8 - 0.9 m.
However, classification according to the type of branching of the bush is more common. On the packets of seeds we see the following characteristics: “determinant”, “indeterminate”, “semi-determinate”. What do these words mean in practice?
- The indeterminate type is a tomato bush that grows strongly upward. The stem grows continuously throughout the season; lateral branches, in turn, produce stepchildren of the second to fourth orders. The first fruit cluster is tied after 10–14 leaves, the subsequent ones alternate every 3–4 leaves. The indeterminate type of growth is most often characteristic of late-ripening and mid-ripening tomatoes.
- Determinate tomatoes are varieties with reduced shoot formation and the ability to self-regulate growth (such as Novichok). Stepchildren in such varieties are formed in the lower third of the stem. After the formation of 4-6 fruit clusters, the main stem stops growing and branching, the growth of the tips of the lateral shoots also stops after the formation of 2-4 inflorescences, such as Klusha
- Tomatoes of the semi-determinate type of branching occupy a middle position between these groups. Inflorescences in semi-determinate varieties are usually formed through 2 internodes. This type includes many medium-sized, less often tall, hybrids and varieties.

Description of the variety: The fruits of the Hugo tomato are cylindrical, pepper-shaped, red, contain 3-4 chambers, covered with thick skin. The standard weight is about 200 grams, and the length is 8-10 cm. Tomatoes of this variety are tasty, good both raw and canned.
The variety tolerates transportation well. It can be stored and ripened for up to 4-6 months in a cool, dry place or in refrigerators.
Reviews of Hugo tomatoes from domestic farmers are only the most positive. They can be grown both in open ground and in a greenhouse. A prerequisite for obtaining a good harvest is correct agricultural technology.
- To obtain an early Hugo harvest, seeds are sown for seedlings at the end of February. The seeds of the hybrid have already been treated with antifungal drugs, so they do not need to be kept in potassium permanganate for dressing. You can soak the seed material in a solution of potassium permanganate or in aloe juice for 10-12 hours.
- Correct selection of soil for seedlings is the key to friendly, healthy seedlings and good development of seedlings. It is better to use ready-made soil mixtures from the store, but you can also prepare the soil yourself. To do this, you need to take 2 kg of peat and sand and one kilogram of ash flour per bucket of sifted humus. Mix everything thoroughly. Be sure to warm the soil in the room where the seeds will be sown for about 3-5 days.
- Seedlings will appear 3-4 days after sowing; they should be carefully watered with warm water and potassium permanganate (weak solution). It is better to water with a flower sprayer. Watering is carried out as the top layer of soil dries.
- Compliance with the irrigation and lighting regime is as important as maintaining optimal humidity (indoor air humidity is not higher than 65%, temperature 22 degrees, and light 18 hours a day).
- Until the real leaves appear, the seedlings can be sprinkled with soil mixture.
- Seedlings should be picked after the appearance of 2-4 true leaves at a distance of 10x10 for better development of the stem and root system of the seedlings.
- The pick grows for about a month to 25-30 centimeters; this is the height of the seedlings that is optimal for planting in the beds.
- A week before planting the seedlings, they are treated with a solution of Bordeaux mixture.
- After planting in the beds, the plants need to be regularly watered, ventilated (in a greenhouse) and fertilized with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers according to the schedule. The first fertilizing is nitrogen, then potassium. Fertilizers should be carried out together with watering and, first, preferably with liquid fertilizers.
- It should be remembered that tomatoes do not need to be sprayed during fruit set and ripening.
Hybrid tomatoes are virtually guaranteed to be resistant to diseases and bad weather conditions, which is something that non-hybrid varieties suffer from. Greenhouses and greenhouses are valued for storing heat, but in them tomatoes can suffer from too high temperatures and sudden temperature changes. In recent years, world selection has been aimed at producing “heat-resistant” hybrids with a reliable guarantee of ovary production.
Hybrids are especially helpful in a greenhouse or a small garden plot where there are no real opportunities for crop rotation and diseases are prevalent. Selection successes demonstrate confident resistance to various types of infections - viral (especially the most dangerous tobacco mosaic virus), fungal, bacterial. In addition, the hybrids have uniform fruits and consistently high yields.
Tomato Incas F1
One of the best hybrids for canning whole fruits without skin. Popular early high-yielding bush hybrid. The plant is medium-sized, compact.
Tomato from the Dutch company Numens, zoned in Russia; entered into the state register in 2000. Mid-early hybrid (105 days) of meter-high vegetables, determinate. Very high resistance to fungal diseases has been recorded. The fruits are 80-100 g, dense, bright red, pepper-shaped, fleshy, uniform, tolerate sunburn well, are very easy to ripen, transported over long distances without loss of quality.
Tomato Torquay F1
Dutch hybrid from Bejo Zaden; in the Russian register since 2007. Mid-season tomato (119-123 days from germination to ripening), bush type - determinate, maximum height 100 cm. Forms abundant multiple clusters with fruits weighing 60-140 g. Dense tomatoes withstand long-term transportation, excellent in pickling and pickling matters.
Tomato Mariana F1
The tomato was created in the French branch of the Japanese company Sakata (the image of the woman Mariana is a symbol of the French Republic). The breeders of this agricultural company are often suspected of producing GMOs, but so far without real evidence. Mariana is a mid-early determinate hybrid. The fruits are similar in shape to Incas - also elongated-oval, perfectly smooth, super dense.
Tomato Bagheera F1
Tomato Strawberry Tree
A relatively new mid-season indeterminate variety from Siberian breeders. In the middle zone it is recommended for growing in greenhouses. From the emergence of seedlings to the beginning of ripening, 112-115 days pass.
The bush is powerful, up to 2 m high in a greenhouse, and up to 120 cm in open ground. Due to shortened internodes and closely spaced brushes, it looks like a small tree. Plants can be grown in either one or two stems, leaving one stepson under the first flower cluster. 5-6 fruits are formed on each brush. When forming into two stems, it is recommended to plant no more than three bushes per 1 sq.m.
The fruits are quite large, weighing 200-250 g, with a thin but dense skin. They have a pleasant sweet and sour taste, and are shaped like strawberries.
Planting Blagovest tomatoes for seedlings and transplanting to a permanent place of growth
This variety is recommended to be grown in seedlings, and planting Blagovest tomato seeds for seedlings should be based on the climatic conditions of the region where the hybrid is grown - about 40-45 days should pass from the moment of planting the seeds to transplanting adult seedlings to a permanent place in the greenhouse.
Preparing seeds and soil for planting
Since seeds are purchased annually in specialized stores, there is no need to carry out their pre-sowing preparation - this was carried out by specialists from the seed manufacturer. The only thing that summer residents usually do is germinate the seeds so that seedlings appear faster. To do this, they are placed in damp material, then placed in a container for several days until the seeds hatch. The material is regularly moistened.
Nutrient substrate for sowing tomatoes can be purchased at a specialty store, but many vegetable growers prepare it themselves at home. At the same time, they mix garden soil, compost or humus and high-moor peat in equal proportions. To make the soil more nutritious, wood ash and mineral fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus are added to it.
On a note!
Nutrient substrate prepared at home should be disinfected before placing it in containers. To do this, you need to spill it with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
Tomato Blagovest - video
Containers for planting Blagovest tomatoes should be low but wide. Before use, they are also washed with a solution of potassium permanganate to disinfect. They are then filled with prepared soil.
Planting seeds and further care of seedlings
Sprouted Blagovest tomato seeds are planted in furrows made in moist soil. The seed material must be buried 1-1.5 cm. Then they are sprinkled with a nutrient substrate, sprayed with a spray bottle, covered with film and put in a warm, bright place for germination.
Typically, seedlings appear 5-7 days after planting the seed. After this, the film is removed and the containers are moved to a cooler place for 5-7 days for hardening. Then the plants are returned back to the heat.
Photos of Blagovest tomato seedlings
Seedlings need 12-13 hours of daylight during growth, otherwise they will stretch out and become weaker. If necessary, seedlings are illuminated by installing fluorescent lamps nearby.
Water the growing seedlings as the soil dries. When the seedlings have at least 2 true leaves, they are planted in separate pots.
INTERESTING TO KNOW! Top rot of tomatoes in a greenhouse Note!
10-12 days after picking, the seedlings are fertilized with any nitrogen fertilizer. Feeding is repeated after about a couple of weeks, but no later than 12-14 days before transplanting the plants into the greenhouse.
10 days before transplanting, Blagovest tomato seedlings should be hardened off. To do this, in the first days, open a window in the room for 1-1.5 hours, gradually increasing the ventilation time, or take the seedlings out onto the balcony.
Transplantation to a permanent place
The place for planting seedlings in the greenhouse is prepared in advance. To do this, the top layer of soil is replaced with a new one, to which organic matter and mineral fertilizers must be added.
Grown Blagovest tomato seedlings are planted as follows: no more than 3 bushes should be placed on each square of area. This allows you to achieve maximum productivity.
Tomato Parodist
Ultra-early variety (about 80-85 days from germination to harvest). Recommended for growing in greenhouses and open ground.
The plants are low (40-50 cm tall), compact, of a determinate type, and do not require pinching or shaping. In simple clusters there are 4-5 fruits.
The variety is distinguished by its unique fruit set in all weather conditions, as well as its uniform yield. Resistant to fusarium and cladosporiosis.
Fruits weighing up to 160 g, flat-round, slightly ribbed, bright red, not prone to cracking. The pulp is dense, juicy, fleshy, the taste is sour.
Tomato Pervoklaska
A productive early determinate variety (about 90-105 days pass from emergence to harvest). Recommended for growing in film greenhouses and open ground.
The height of the plant does not exceed 1 m. The bushes are strong, medium-leafed, and require pinching and tying to a support. Tomatoes of this variety can be formed into three stems and planted in a 40×50 pattern. The first inflorescence is formed over 6-7 leaves, and up to 8 fruits ripen in each cluster. The yield is up to 6 kg per plant.
The fruits are pink, round in shape, weighing up to 200 g. They are distinguished by their smooth ripening and excellent taste.
The most popular in open ground and greenhouses
Bushes that do not stretch uncontrollably upward, but are capable of timely self-restraint, are very convenient to grow. At the same time, its respectable height determines excellent productivity indicators. Its versatility is also attractive: it can be planted anywhere. True, in open ground you will need supports, but not very high ones.
Semi-determinate varieties, as a rule, are not too late, usually mid-early or mid-ripening. But you still need to step them up. In the open air, some varieties may require topping towards the end of the season (on average - early August). The standard height is from one to 1.5 (and a little higher) meters (this is observed in a greenhouse).

The main feature of the Pudovik tomato is its beautiful massive heart-shaped fruits of pink-raspberry color, growing on tall, densely leafy bushes. Among similar salad tomatoes, many gardeners call the quality of Pudovik fruits the best. However, other lovers say the same thing about the Heavyweight of Siberia tomato, and some even prefer yellow-fruited or classic red-fruited varieties.
- excellent tomato taste;
- excellent presentation, large fruit;
- high productivity;
- ease of care;
- high resistance to diseases and fluctuations in weather conditions.
The downside is the possibility of fruit cracking if the soil is significantly waterlogged.
There are many salad tomato varieties, including heart-shaped and raspberry-colored ones. Perhaps the best known are the various variations of Bull's Heart, but to date the popularity of these tomatoes is gradually declining, since many varieties of Novosibirsk selection have surpassed Bull's Heart in terms of basic characteristics.
Perhaps, in terms of the taste of the fruit, Pudovik now competes with the Heavyweight of Siberia and Altai honey, but it is not entirely correct to compare these varieties. Heavyweight of Siberia is a determinate variety with low yield. Altai honey is grown mainly in greenhouses. The Chelyabinsk variety Raspberry Heart seems to be a very serious competitor to these tomatoes.
Tomato Heavyweight of Siberia is very similar to Pudovik, but it has less yield
Thus, according to most parameters, the Pudovik variety should be recognized as one of the best salad tomato varieties, capable of growing in almost any conditions. Of course, it has its drawbacks, but the ideal variety, apparently, will not be created for a long time.
Tomato Roma
Mid-season determinate variety for open ground and greenhouses. About 115-120 days pass from emergence to harvest.
The bush grows up to 60-80 cm in height, needs staking and, partially, pinching. It is recommended to remove all side shoots up to the first flower cluster. The variety is characterized as high-yielding; if agricultural practices are followed, it will provide 3-3.5 kg of tomatoes per bush.
The fruits are cylindrical, elongated, weighing 60-80 g. Fleshy, dense, with red flesh. Not prone to cracking. Sweetish in taste, universal use.
Growing Tips
The tomato variety Cherripalchiki f1 can be used to produce a crop without the use of chemical fertilizers.
In this case, you should adhere to the following tips:
- Until the first greenery appears, keep the temperature in the box under the film at +23..+25 °C.
- After the sprouts appear, reduce the temperature to +20..+22 °C.
- Daytime temperatures should exceed nighttime temperatures by 5 degrees.
- 14-15 days before planting at the main place, begin to “harden off” the seedlings, increasing the time the boxes with seedlings are outdoors in the evening and in non-sunny weather.
- Seedlings should be replanted in light soil to which dissolved ash has been added (0.5 liters of solution per bucket of soil). The height of the plants should already reach 25-30 cm.
- It is recommended to make the beds “warm” (put cardboard on the bottom, sprinkle 10 cm of sawdust, then lay 30 cm of hay or grass, crush it well). The top layer of the bed should consist of 20-30 cm of sifted humus or compost.
- Watering young shoots should be done only after the top layer of soil has dried.
- Use humus for fertilizing, but you need to carefully ensure that such fertilizer does not end up on the roots of the plant, because it can cause burns and prevent the bush from growing further.
Tomato Rumba Ozharovskaya
An early semi-determinate low-growing variety of Polish selection. It takes about 90-98 days from emergence to harvest. Planting location: greenhouse or open ground.
The height of the bush is about 1 m in a greenhouse, and 60-70 cm in open ground. The plant has moderate foliage. 6-8 fruits ripen in a cluster. The yield with proper care is 4-5 kg per bush. The variety is resistant to a range of diseases.
The fruits are large, weighing 100-120 g, round or round-flat, bright red in color with a pink tint. They are fleshy, dense, do not crack, taste sweet and sour, and are universally used.
Gardeners' opinion
For the sake of experiment, Uhazher planted tomatoes on the balcony. At home, the plant gave a good harvest. The tomato turned out to be unpretentious and easy to care for. I was required to periodically water and loosen. I periodically ventilated the room and tried to maintain the temperature at 21-23 degrees. The fruits turned out to be bright red, small and very sweet. Enjoyed fresh berries during the cold winter season. I'm happy with the result! I recommend!

Good day. I advise all gardeners to try the Ukhazher tomato variety. Worthy work of Russian selection. The variety withstood cold summers, showed resistance to most diseases, and the fruits are very tasty. Grown berries are suitable for canning, preparing salads and processing into tomato products. I didn’t find any cons for myself.

Varietal features
If we talk about the Artist tomato, then it is definitely worth noting several of the most important characteristics of the variety.
Description of the tomato variety Beauty f1, its characteristics and yieldRead
Fruit
Hybrid Artist - carpal type. This means that the ovaries are located evenly in the hand, on both sides. All tomatoes are almost identical in size, smooth, beautiful. Within one brush they are poured and ripened at the same time. It is convenient to harvest such tomatoes in whole bunches, transport them in this form and put them in storage.
One inflorescence bears from 5 to 8 fruits. The weight of each of them in the first hand can reach 200 grams, the average weight is 140 – 150 grams. This is the ideal, standard size for pickling and whole-fruit canning: the tomatoes are not too large, but not small either (they are sometimes called “medium-fruited”). However, they are good in fresh salads and in any preparations. Beneficial for market sales of fresh produce.
Tomatoes have a classic round shape, sometimes slightly ribbed. The color of unripe fruits is soft green, ripe tomatoes are bright, scarlet, without any greenery at the stalk. The skin is strong, the consistency of the pulp is dense, not watery. The most important characteristic is excellent transportability and shelf life of ripe fruits without loss of quality (at least a month after harvest).
Bush
Plants can reach one and a half meters in height and have an indeterminate (continuous) growth pattern. Hybrid Artist is recommended to be grown indoors. Any tall greenhouses are suitable - film, glass, polycarbonate, with or without heating. The bushes are formed compact; medium-sized leaves are not located perpendicular to the trunk, but at an angle, as if stretching upward.
The first cluster is formed after the growth of 9–10 leaves. Subsequently, ovaries are formed every 3 leaves. The plant is capable of feeding 7 – 8 clusters. After their formation, the top of the stem must be pinched. The one who planted the Artist f1 tomato notes that in favorable conditions, 9–10 bunches can be fully saturated.
Deadlines
When describing the Artist variety, it is characterized either as mid-season or mid-early in terms of ripening. These fluctuations are determined by the region, growing conditions, and diet. The first fruits turn red in the range of 102–115 days from germination.
Characteristics and description of the Red Giant tomato variety, its yieldRead
The harvest continues until the end of the season, depending on the capabilities of the greenhouse (height, temperature). Unripe tomatoes are successfully ripened and then stored, which allows you to significantly extend the consumption of fresh vegetables.
Immunity
Tomatoes from Ilyinichna are famous for their genetic resistance to a number of harmful infections. All hybrids successfully resist botrytis - gray rot of stems and fruits, which is especially dangerous in humid greenhouse air. New breeding products such as the Artist are able to repel the attack of the root-knot nematode, the tobacco mosaic virus (which cannot be treated in any way).
If you plant tomatoes without observing crop rotation in the same greenhouse from year to year, then outbreaks of fungal infections are inevitable, taking away a significant portion of the crop. Even chemicals don't always save you. The hybrid variety Artist is good because it is not susceptible to fusarium wilt and brown spot (cladosporiosis). Fewer chemical treatments mean healthier vegetables, lower cash and labor costs.
Tomato Yablonka Russia
Medium late variety (about 120-130 days pass from emergence to harvest). Recommended for growing in greenhouses and open ground.
Plants grow up to 1 m in height, compact, weakly branched, determinate type, do not require pinching or shaping. Standard bush. In simple clusters there are 4-5 fruits.
The variety is high-yielding and unpretentious in cultivation. Drought-resistant, has a fairly high immunity to diseases. Fruiting is extended.
Fruits weighing up to 120 g, round in shape, slightly ribbed, bright red in color, not prone to cracking. The skin is strong, the flesh is aromatic, juicy, fleshy, the taste is sour. The fruits are universally used, tolerate transportation well and are stored well for a long time.
By choosing the right varieties and hybrids of tomatoes for your garden, you can grow a good harvest of tasty fruits every year and spend a minimum of time caring for the plants.
The best varieties of tomatoes for 2022: photos and descriptions
Tomatoes are one of the most popular vegetable crops; we plant them for vitamins for the summer table and tasty preparations. And if the area of the greenhouse or garden bed is limited, high-yielding varieties are needed to produce more useful fruits. Modern tomato hybrids must provide the following qualities:
- precocity;
- high yield;
- resistance to major tomato diseases;
- commercial properties of fruits: uniformity in size and shape, attractive color, absence of cracking, keeping quality and transportability;
- good taste of fruits;
- short internodes of shoots, compact arrangement of inflorescences;
- strong, short inflorescences bearing 5-7 fruits;
- the ability to continuously form fruit clusters – a generative type of development (for greenhouse indeterminate bushes).

What tomatoes can be called high-yielding? In quantitative terms, these are varieties and hybrids, from one bush of which we can get 10 or more kilograms of fruit. In greenhouses, when grown year-round, they yield up to 40-50 kg per sq.m.

Before you accurately choose a variety or hybrid of tomatoes, you need to decide where exactly they will grow.
For open ground, low-growing varieties that will ripen early are more suitable. Mid-ripening species in good summer weather can produce a fairly good harvest, but they are susceptible to microflora, which can destroy most fruits.
It is customary to grow tall varieties and various hybrids in greenhouses. Here you can plant absolutely any tomatoes, even late-ripening ones.
When choosing tomatoes for their plot, gardeners, first of all, rely on varietal or hybrid characteristics. Productivity is the most important criterion on which the quantity and quality of the harvest depends. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose the right option from the rich variety of tomatoes for open ground and greenhouses. Then varieties are selected depending on the growing region, ripening period, degree of disease resistance and other factors.
A huge number of species with excellent yields are intended for growing vegetables in the open air. Low-growing bushes with large fruits are one of the advantages of tomatoes for the soil. Such heat-loving plants are easier to care for and do not require complex agricultural practices.
According to ripening period
Tomatoes, like other vegetable crops, are characterized by different ripening periods, from early to late.
Ripening period | Ripening of fruits after the appearance of the first shoots | general characteristics | The most productive tomatoes (2020) |
Ultra-early ripening | On day 80-85 | The fruits are small, juicy, and low in sugar. The height of the bush is no more than 50 cm. Not suitable for preservation. | Little Red Riding Hood, Pride of Russia, Benito, Superstar, Valentina, Marisha, Maksimka |
Early ripening | For 90-95 days | Small, delicate fruits, average yield. Suitable for canning and salads. Bushes grow up to 70 cm | Agatha, Riddle, Augustine, Lyana, Sanka, Buyan, Lakomka, Amur standard, Grandmother's kiss |
Mid-early | On days 100-103 | The fruits are juicy, small, aromatic. The purpose is universal. Bush shape - compact | Openwork, Babushkino, Pulka, Red Giant, Russian Soul, Cardinal, Flamingo |
Mid-season | On day 100-115 | High taste, excellent yield. There are both low-growing and tall varieties | Scarlet Candles, Hybrid Basket, Stresa, Intuition, Black Baron, Pudovik, Pink Honey |
Late ripening | On day 120-130 | Excellent fruit taste, high yield, universal purpose. Good keeping quality and transportability of fruits | Giraffe, Cosmonaut Volkov, Titan, Rio Grande, Russian size, King of Kings, Rocket, Premier |
The ripening time, color and shape of tomatoes depends on the variety.
Usually early-ripening vegetables with not large fruits and not a large harvest, but with a quick, friendly yield of ripe tomatoes. Mid-season ones also have medium sizes. Late ones are usually difficult to care for, but it is among them that you can find champions in weight, but there are not many such beauties on the bush.
Every year, breeders create new species with high quality indicators. In stores you can buy specialized varieties of tomatoes designed for growing in certain climatic conditions. Classification by regions of Russia:
- for the Moscow region: Champion, Sweet Bunch, Honey, Pink Elephant, Fireworks, Bull's forehead;
- for the southern regions: Torch, Novice, Titan, Winner, Bison, Ermak, Gift, Mikado;
- for the middle zone: Bull's Heart, Black Prince, Uzbek (Yusupov), Moskvichka, Snowdrop, Big Brother, Spasskaya Tower;
- for Siberia: Siberian heavyweight, Ultra early ripening, Sanka, Abakan pink;
- for the Urals: Coin, Bull's Heart, Button, Countryman, Yellow Buyan, Bullfinch, Demidov;
- for the far north: Snowy Tale, Ballerina, Ladyfingers, Berdsky Large, Countryman, Oak, Gina.
An unpredictable, cold or, conversely, excessively warm climate is not a reason to refuse to grow tomatoes in open ground. Thanks to selection, varieties have been developed that grow and develop well in any terrain.
To obtain a rich harvest, you need to choose tomato varieties not only with the appropriate characteristics. It is necessary that this criterion be supplemented by such an indicator as disease resistance.
Late blight, root rot, tobacco mosaic, cladosporiosis are diseases that most often affect plantings of heat-loving crops.

Cherries are sweet, small tomatoes that grow well both outdoors and in a greenhouse, but small-fruited vegetables tend to be more productive in protected beds. Magic Harp F1 and Yellow Caramel F1 are hybrids whose fruit weight does not exceed 25 g.
When choosing a vegetable for a greenhouse, many rightly give preference to tall and high-yielding varieties. But low-growing plants, which usually have an early ripening period, as well as mid-ripening tomatoes, are also excellent for polycarbonate shelters in all regions of Russia.
For open ground, breeders also offer species with high yields of hybrid origin; they are resistant to diseases and temperature changes. The best tomato varieties of 2020:

Exceptional taste, fruit weight, constant yield, disease resistance, adaptation to weather conditions are the advantages of hybrids over tomato varieties.
Reviews
My favorite tomato variety in 2022 is Idol, medium-sized, very tasty, productive. I planted seedlings on March 20, the first fruit was picked on June 20. The bushes bear fruit for 3 months. The most successful cherry variety is Black Cherry, very tasty and productive, the most favorite tomato of children.
I like the fruits to be large and regular in shape. Therefore, I prefer the varieties Early Rose, Peach, Heavyweight of Siberia and Pink Fig. This year I raised Grandma's Secret. The bush is determinate, the average height is 180 cm. I have never produced kilogram fruits, the maximum weight is 700-800 g. Probably this is because I allow the bush to form into two or three stems.
I never conduct systematic analysis. I analyze when the tomatoes are already picked. I love large, sugary berries. I really like the Pink Giant in taste, but the yield is low. So far, my requirements are relatively met by 2 varieties - Pink Andromeda and Mazarin. Over time (I’m a novice gardener) I’m thinking of finding the optimal variety or hybrid of tomatoes.
Now I mainly grow tomatoes in my dacha. About 20 different varieties. Red, yellow, brown, black. Beauty! Cherry, Cream, Ox heart. Different sizes, different tastes, different ripening periods - from May to October. The main thing is that the weather is warm. I’m not keen on canning, so we use fresh vegetables. If the harvest is good, I give the remaining tomatoes to relatives.
