Review of the Shanghai Molodets f1 cucumber variety and reviews from gardeners about its cultivation

From the variety of cucumber varieties bred by breeders around the world, experienced vegetable growers and farmers prefer cultivating Chinese vegetables.

It is precisely these varieties that include the high-yielding cucumber Shanghai fellow f1, which, according to reviews from gardeners and farmers, is unpretentious in cultivation and subsequent care.

Description of the variety

The new hybrid form of vegetable crop adapts perfectly to any climatic conditions and is rarely affected by diseases and harmful insects.

Cucumbers of the Shanghai Molodets f1 variety are suitable for growing both in open ground and in greenhouses or greenhouses.

Appearance and taste

The vegetable crop grows in the form of tall vines with platinum leaves characteristic of cucumbers. During the growing season, multiple yellow flowers appear on the plants, in which vegetable ovaries develop. The variety is capable of self-pollination, so it does not require additional pollinators. Fruit ripening occurs 45 days after the appearance of the first shoots.

Ripe vegetables are characterized by a pronounced taste and aroma of cucumber and freshness. Under the thin, pimply skin there is dense pulp with a sweetish taste. Vegetables are recommended to be consumed fresh or added to various salads.

Important! Tall bushes require additional support in the form of pegs or support structures.

Distinctive features

There are a number of distinctive characteristics of Chinese vegetables that contribute to their popularity.

  1. Absence of bitterness in vegetables even under unfavorable weather conditions and violation of care rules.
  2. There are never voids in the fruits.
  3. Non-standard size of vegetables. During the ripening process, the fruits elongate.
  4. The taste qualities of cucumbers were rated by experts with the highest scores. The pulp of the vegetables is juicy and sweet.
  5. Ripe vegetables are suitable for long-term storage and long-distance transportation.

Also, a distinctive feature of the variety is considered to be the early ripening of vegetables and ease of care.

Fruit characteristics, yield

The ripened fruits of cucumbers of the Shanghai Molodets variety acquire a dark green hue. From one plant you get from 10 to 15 kilograms of ripe vegetables. In industrial quantities, up to 30 kilograms of vegetables are harvested from 1 square meter.

Ripe cucumbers are characterized by the following characteristics:

  • At the time of harvest, the fruits reach a length of up to 40 centimeters
  • The weight of each cucumber ranges from 300 to 350 grams
  • The cucumbers reach only 3-3.5 centimeters in diameter, so they appear long and thin.

Important! With a lack of moisture and improper care, the fruits are prone to thinning and curling.

General view of the hybrid

Compared to other Chinese varieties, the variety is still little known among gardeners. The hybrid is intended for cultivation in greenhouses and temporary greenhouses. In the southern regions, cultivation in open beds is allowed, but the yield in this case is significantly reduced.

A cucumber looks like this:

  1. The stem is not limited in growth. Under suitable conditions, the central shoot of the plant reaches 3 m or more.
  2. The cucumber produces few branches.
  3. With strong tendrils, the plant clings tightly to the support.
  4. The leaves are large in size. Like most representatives of the culture, the plates are covered with stiff hairs.
  5. The main type of flowers is female.
  6. The fruits are much longer than those of conventional varieties. Some specimens reach 70 cm.
  7. The cucumber is endowed with pulp without bitterness, with a fresh, closer to watermelon, aroma.
  8. A small seed box is visible in the section.
  9. The dark skin is sparsely covered with large tubercles.

Attention! Cucumber grows very quickly. 3 days after the formation of the ovary, the fruit reaches a length of 30-40 cm.

Features of cultivation and possible difficulties

The main difficulties in growing cucumbers of the Shanghai Well done variety arise when the rules for caring for the vegetable crop are violated. Weather conditions can also affect the development and fruiting of plants. In this case, the fruits begin to thin and curl into a ring, which negatively affects the presentation of the vegetables.

The main reason for fruit deformation is lack or excess of moisture, lack of sunlight and nutrients in the soil.

Diseases and pests

Chinese scientists have built into the cucumber variety increased immunity to various diseases and pests. But often, improper care or weather conditions increase the risk of damage to vegetable crops by fungi, viruses or harmful insects.

To avoid unpleasant situations, preventive treatment of plants is carried out with professional preparations based on fungicides or insecticides. Folk plant protection products prepared independently are also used.

How to grow seedlings?

Cucumber Shanghai well done f1, according to reviews, is most often grown from seedlings. For planting, use containers with a volume of 500 ml. It is recommended to purchase peat cups. They are filled with soil mixture. It should be fertile and loose. The mixture is made up of organic matter and mineral fertilizers.

For 10 kg of compost, take 300 g of ash, 5 liters of sawdust or 5 kg of peat. You can introduce 20 g of potassium salt and 40 g of superphosphate. For seedlings, manufacturers have compiled a special mixture of “Living Earth” and “Exo”.

The seeds need to be prepared. They are kept in a solution of potassium permanganate and germinated in wet sawdust. Sawdust can be moistened with Zircon solution. This is a growth stimulator that triggers metabolic processes in the core of the seed. To prepare the solution, take 1 liter of water and 1.5 ml of the drug.

When the seeds begin to hatch, sowing is carried out. Before sowing, the soil is treated with Fitosporin solution, 5 g/l. The seedlings are deepened by 5 cm and sprinkled with wet sawdust.

The containers are covered with film to create a greenhouse effect. Peat cups are opened daily to ventilate the soil.

After 3-5 days, young shoots appear. The microclimate needs to be changed. A fluorescent lamp is installed above the seedlings. Plants develop normally under a certain daylight hours, 14-16 hours. During certain periods of development, the temperature for seedlings will be different:

  • seeds ripen at a temperature of 28 C;
  • for young shoots, maintain 20-22 C during the day;
  • at night the temperature is reduced to 15-18 C;
  • if the seedlings are very elongated, then the daytime temperature is reduced to 18 C. Daylight hours are reduced to 8 hours;
  • Watering is carried out once a week. Use only warm water;
  • Plants can be sprayed with Zircon or Epin once every 2 weeks;
  • Once every 20 days, seedlings are sprayed with “Fitosporin” or “Fitolavin”.

The seedlings are grown until 4 leaves are fully formed, then they are transplanted into a greenhouse. Seedlings need to be adapted to new conditions.
