Advantages and disadvantages
There are no perfect varieties yet, but each vegetable grower decides for himself which varieties and hybrids are worthy of taking a place in his greenhouse and city. Considering the “Mandarin” variety, we can highlight the following properties of the tomato:
Advantages:
- early ripeness;
- disease resistance;
- good taste;
- beautiful shape and general appearance, both fresh and canned;
- maintaining the integrity of the fetus.
Flaws:
- they do not occupy the greenhouse vertically, which leads to the second drawback;
- low yield;
- pale color, not corresponding to the name.
Features of cultivation and storage
Seedlings are transplanted into beds at the age of 50-60 days.
The beds are fertilized in advance, for this purpose the following is applied per 1 m2:
- 1 bucket of compost;
- 30 g superphosphate;
- 10 g potassium sulfate;
- 1 cup wood ash.
4 bushes are planted per 1 m2. The distance between the holes is 40-50 cm.
How to care:
- moderate watering 3 times a week, the water rate varies from 5 to 8 liters depending on the weather;
- feeding during flowering, setting, ripening;
- formation into 2-3 shoots, pinching once every 12-14 days.
Features of agricultural technology
Tomatoes are grown in the same way as other indeterminate varieties. Seeds are sown for seedlings in the last week of March. The plants are planted in separate containers after 2 true leaves have formed. They are planted in the ground in a permanent place at the age of 2 months. By this time, the tomato should have 6-7 leaves.
After a week, they begin tying the stems. Use a pre-installed trellis. Form a tomato into 2 stems. Excess stepsons and old leaves are regularly removed.
The development of the plant is facilitated by proper watering (it is better to equip a drip system) and regular fertilizing. Fertilizers are applied both at the root and by spraying on the leaves.

Planting and care
Sowing of tomato seeds begins in the second half of March. To grow in a greenhouse, seeds for seedlings are sown in the second decade of the first month of spring. For open ground, seedlings are sown at the turn of March and April.
Attention!
Tomato Tangerine bunch – varietal. You can harvest the seeds yourself. In this case, before planting, they should be disinfected with a solution of fungicides or potassium manganese and treated with growth stimulants such as Ecosil.
Seeds are sown in moist soil, consisting of garden soil, humus, peat and sand, to a depth of 0.5-1.0 cm. The plantings are covered with glass or film. After sprouting, the tomatoes are watered and fed with complex fertilizers. With the appearance of 2-4 true leaves, they are planted in separate containers.
Seedlings are planted in a greenhouse or soil in the first or third ten days of May, respectively. It is important that the threat of night frosts passes. Humus, wood ash, and superphosphate are added to the holes.
During the growing season, tomatoes:
- water 1-2 times a week with warm, settled water in the morning or evening;
- periodically weed and loosen the soil;
- feed, alternating organic and mineral fertilizers.
According to breeders, the variety does not require pinching and bush formation. But it may be necessary to install supports if there is heavy fruiting.

Formation
3 days before planting in the greenhouse, 3 lower leaves are removed from each bush. This promotes the rapid development of the first cluster and protects plants from diseases. When planting sprouts in a greenhouse, they are planted in a pre-dug hole, the roots are straightened, and the stem is given a vertical position. After 3 days, the sprouts are tied to a support. The tomato must be formed by pinching into 1 stem.
Side shoots should be removed in the morning in sunny weather. It is better to cut them with garden shears, which must first be treated with a disinfectant solution. It is necessary to water the plants in a timely manner, loosen the soil, and apply fertilizers. All these measures contribute to the good development of tomatoes and increase productivity.
Resistance to diseases and pests
The variety has strong immunity to diseases such as fusarium and cladosporiosis. Late blight deserves special attention during the epidemic. For prevention:
- the beds are treated with Fitosporin on the eve of planting;
- if there is a threat of infection, irrigate the bushes with Bordeaux mixture once a week;
- when brown spots appear, spray with “Ridomil Gold” or “Quadris”;
- remove affected leaves and fruits.
If tomatoes are infected with fomoz, use “Bravo”.
Insects pose a threat to tomatoes. These are aphids, slugs, whiteflies. To cope with pests, they are treated with “Actofit” and “Profi”.

Bright Tangerines cause no less joy than real citrus fruits on New Year's Eve. The neat fruits are beautiful and tasty when preserved. Salads made from fresh tomatoes are particularly sweet and tender.

Tomato “Mandarin” “Gavrish” – review
Full cycle From seed to tomato! To plant or not to plant? How seed producers are deceiving us!
I haven’t written about my tomatoes yet, but now their turn has come.
I bought the seeds of the “Mandarin” variety for the first time - I love experiments, as I am constantly searching for the ideal taste.
This is what the seed package looks like .
I wanted a variety - something between cherry and ordinary average fruits.
The packaging says that this tomato is indeterminate (tall), which is important for me, since I only plant tomatoes in a polycarbonate greenhouse; in the open ground in the Leningrad region, waiting for the fruits to ripen is a disastrous task.
As expected, the seeds were sown in mid-to-late March, when daylight hours become acceptable, so that the plants do not stretch out.
I can’t say that the seedlings somehow really surprised me or stood out from other varieties, however, the further I went, the more I noticed how strong the variety’s trunk and leaves were.
This photo is already in the greenhouse, when the seedlings took root, but did not bloom (the weather let us down).
And here are the tomatoes at the ripening stage
As you can see in the photo, they really are racemose, they look very beautiful, especially against the background of red tomatoes.
In the first photo you can see that the manufacturer embellished the photo on the packaging, adding color saturation.
“Tangerines” were simply orange as much as possible.
Sweet and sour, dense, quite tasty, but not 10 out of 10, but about 6.
I think these fruits would be ideal for canning, since the fruits are strong and their size is convenient. And, of course, from an aesthetic point of view, such tomatoes in jars will look very good.
I’ll tell you separately about the pros and cons of the variety.
pros
- The variety is resistant to all kinds of diseases; late blight was the last to strike it in September.
- Early ripening tomatoes 90-100 days from the beginning of the growing season
- Quite pleasant to the taste
- Good for preservation
Minuses
- The manufacturer lied to us about the growth of the plants. The growth of “Tangerines stopped at 1.2 – 1.5 meters.
- False picture on the packaging
(The box contains not only “Mandarin”, but also 2 yellow varieties,” which I will definitely write about in the near future)
The positives seem to have won. But at the same time, I won’t buy them a second time. The choice of varieties is now so chic that it makes no sense to focus on just one thing.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by for your attention.
Description of tomato Tangerine bunch
Despite the fact that the Tangerine bunch tomato has not yet been tested and not zoned, vegetable growers claim that it can be grown almost throughout the entire territory of Russia.
An early-ripening variety with increased cold resistance and the ability to grow in open and closed ground is gradually gaining popularity. Description of the Tangerine bunch tomato and the main characteristics of the variety indicate that this is a determinate plant up to 1 m high. The shoots are quite powerful, but at the time of active fruiting they need support. The leaves are ordinary tomato leaves, and the shoots have a rich green color. The flowers are small, bright yellow, collected in brushes of 10-15 pieces each.
The fruits are spherical in shape, aligned in diameter. The average weight of a bright yellow tomato with an orange blush is 170-200 grams. The skin is quite dense. The vegetables are juicy, with fleshy pulp with a sweet taste. They have a slight sourness. But it does not spoil the taste, but gives the tomatoes a refreshing note.
Interesting fact!
Do not confuse the Mandarin bunch tomato with the Mandarin variety. They both refer to tomatoes with cluster or bouquet formation of inflorescences. But the Mandarin tomato is a cherry variety with small fruits weighing up to 50 grams.
The Tangerine bunch tomato variety has increased cold resistance and bears fruit well on cool and rainy summer days. It is also relatively resistant to dry weather. Quite unpretentious low-growing plants do not require the formation of bushes. This tomato variety practically does not form stepsons. However, for good fruiting it needs fertile soil and good light.
The variety is distinguished by early ripening. Biological maturity of the fruit occurs 85-95 days after the appearance of the first shoots. Fruiting is consistent, with massive fruit ripening in mid-July.
The productivity of Tangerine bunch tomatoes is high. Up to 4 kg of vegetables are harvested from one bush. Considering the compactness of the plants, from 1 square of area you can collect from 14 to 20 kg of fruit. Yields are largely influenced by the nutritional properties of the soil, good lighting and timely watering.
Tangerine bunch tomatoes can be stored for 7-14 days in a cool place. Slightly unripe fruits are collected for transportation. Tomatoes are great for fresh consumption, making salads, and also for storing for the winter. Both whole tomatoes can be preserved and used to prepare winter salads and lecho.
"Pros and cons"
Vegetable growers have been growing Tangerine bunch tomatoes for a short time, but the variety already has positive reviews:
- compact, determinate plants;
- good yield;
- early ripening;
- cold resistance and drought resistance;
- medium-sized tomatoes with an attractive appearance;
- excellent taste of the fruit, with a predominance of sweetness;
- keeping quality and transportability;
- versatility in use.
Negative reviews are mainly caused by subjective opinions. Some people don’t like low-growing varieties, while others don’t like yellow tomatoes.
Alesya, 30 years old, Odintsovo Tangerine bunch is great for small plots and people growing tomatoes for fresh consumption. Tomatoes are tasty and sweet. If only they would bear fruit longer.
Elena, 50 years old, VladimirTomat I have been growing a bunch of tangerines for 2 years. Excellent for whole canning. Especially with red tomatoes. It's also delicious in salad. But the fruiting period is short.
For some tomato lovers, the decisive detail when choosing is the fruits of their original shape and color. The Mandarin duck variety will definitely arouse interest among such gardeners. A detailed description of the variety, growing methods and reviews can be found in the article.
