Characteristic

The apple tree has many positive qualities that gardeners will undoubtedly appreciate.

Advantages and disadvantages

Rodnikova has, perhaps, only one drawback - it is some dryness of the fruit. The rest of the variety consists of advantages:

  • The compact apple tree is easy to care for and harvest;
  • abundant fruiting;
  • early fruiting of the apple tree;
  • very good winter hardiness;
  • high drought resistance;
  • immune resistance to four scab races;
  • ease of care.

Dimensions of an adult tree

The apple tree is medium-sized, adult specimens grow no higher than three meters.

Annual growth

The tree is characterized by active annual growth. The apple tree shows its main growth in the first three years of its growth.

Frequency of fruiting

Spring tree has no periodicity in fruiting: harvests are harvested annually.

Productivity

The apple tree is characterized by high productivity, especially considering the modest size of an adult tree. Annual yields are about 60-80 kg.

Tasting assessment

The pulp of the fruit is white, slightly aromatic. Apples have a very good sweet and sour taste and a tasting score of 4.4 out of five. Even with good indicators, the juiciness of the apples is not enough.

Winter hardiness

The cultivar withstands changes in seasonal temperatures, winter hardiness is at a very good level. Frost resistance – up to -40 degrees.

Disease resistance

Rodnikovaya apple trees are carriers of the Vm gene. Of the five virulent races of scab, this variety is immune to four races. In addition to scab, the tree copes well with other pathogens of fungal infections.

Reviews

Andrey. “Our spring tree is still a very young tree. Just two years. We planted it because we tried it in a friend’s garden. I really liked the fact that it requires minimal care and there are no diseases. And apples taste good.”

Natalia. “Among the autumn trees, I consider the Rodnikovaya apple tree to be the best option. The main thing is that he does not suffer from scab, and is not so tall. For our Volgograd region there was no problem with winter hardiness. The harvest is excellent. The apples are quite large and tasty. Slight sourness.”Maria. “For a small plot - the most suitable apple tree.

Features of planting and care

The main rule when planting a fruit crop is the correct choice of a permanent location.

Place to plant an apple tree.

Landing

Spring prefers open areas, but tolerates partial shade well. Like any apple tree crops, Rodnikovaya does not like drafts and stagnant moisture. The occurrence of groundwater should be no higher than 2-1.5 meters. The apple tree feels best on loam and sandy loam, demonstrating its best qualities when planting rules are followed.

Deadlines

The timing of planting Rodnikova seedlings is standard: in the fall before the onset of frost or in the spring from late April to mid-May.

Technology

A planting hole measuring 60x90 cm, where 60 cm is the diameter of the hole and 90 cm is its depth, is prepared in advance. When carrying out autumn planting, it is recommended to prepare the hole a month before the intended procedure. For spring planting, it is better to dig a hole in the fall, put fertilizer in it and leave it in the winter. Planting technology:

  1. We dig a planting hole.
  2. We drive a wooden peg into the center of the hole.
  3. Mix one third of the soil taken out of the pit with peat, humus and mineral fertilizers.
  4. Mix the remaining soil with humus.
  5. Pour the nutritious soil mixture into a mound at the bottom of the hole.
  6. We place a seedling on the top of the mound next to the peg, straighten the roots, carefully placing them on the mound.
  7. We fill the hole with a mixture of garden soil and humus, compacting it well and leaving no air cushions.
  8. Water the seedling with plenty of water (2-3 buckets).

When planting, it is necessary to ensure that the root collar is not buried and rises 5-7 cm above the soil. In the first year after planting, the young tree does not need fertilizing.

Distance

When planting several seedlings, the planting pattern is as follows: 2.5-3 meters (distance between trees) by 3.5-4 meters (distance between rows).

Scheme of distances for planting seedlings from each other.

Agricultural technology and cultivation

Agrotechnical measures are standard:

  • timely watering, more frequent in dry years;
  • regular balanced fertilizing with organic matter and mineral fertilizers;
  • carrying out preventive measures to combat pests;
  • shaping and trimming the crown.

Pruning and crown formation

Since the cultivar is characterized by high growth in the first three years, during this period it will be necessary to carry out regular pruning to two-thirds of the length of the regrown shoots. As the rate of regrowth decreases, only sanitary pruning and minor thinning of the crown will be needed. At the age of two years, it is necessary to form a standard 60 cm high.

Pollinator varieties

Spring plant is self-pollinating, but in order to regularly receive a bountiful harvest, it is recommended to provide proximity to any varieties that have similar flowering periods. In addition, it is necessary to ensure that pollinating insects are attracted to the site.

Features of ripening and fruiting

Rodnikovaya is a fast-growing and high-yielding variety.

Fruiting

Fruiting is abundant and regular.

Start

The apple tree begins to bear fruit at the age of 4-5 years.

Peculiarities

The formation of fruit ovaries in young trees occurs mainly on the ringlets. Subsequently, fruiting is mixed: on ringlets, spears, and fruit twigs.

Deadlines

According to the ripening period in the State Register, Rodnikovaya is indicated as an early winter variety, but according to the documentation of the Sverdlovsk breeding station, the variety is indicated as an autumn variety.

Blooms

Flowering is quite late, occurs in the first ten days of June and lasts for 10-14 days.

Fruit ripening

Fruit ripeness occurs at the end of September. The fruits are firmly held on long stalks and do not fall off when fully ripe. Apples reach consumer maturity approximately a week after harvest.

Harvest storage

The harvest, subject to storage rules, can last until January. Then the apple pulp becomes loose. Fruits that have been over-aged on the tree can be eaten directly from the tree, but this will significantly reduce their shelf life.

What are the varieties?

Breeding stations are engaged in the breeding of not only new fruit crops adapted to a specific Russian region. But they are also trying to give even more advantages to the existing varieties. For example, some varieties are designed to develop in a shorter period of time, while others, in addition to their main functions, delight gardeners with their decorative properties.

Semi-dwarf

This apple tree is a tree that has an average height of 2 to 3 meters. The crown grows 1.5-2 meters in width. The main feature of the species is its growth and compact size.

The presence of such dignity implies that the gardener pays much more attention and care to such trees than to others. After all, these plants are capricious. They need to be carefully monitored, especially the root system, which is located close to the soil surface - 10-40 cm deep.

The semi-dwarf Spring apple tree grows up to 2.5 meters. Flowing groundwater nearby does not disturb the tree in any way, because, as noted above, the roots do not go deep into them. The fruiting period occurs in the 3rd year after planting. Sometimes it drags on for another 12 months.

It is important to understand that this variety was bred for the purpose of rapid development and earlier harvest. Therefore, the life span of apple trees is not long. If you properly and fully care for them, they usually live up to 15 years.

Standard winter

The plant - a standard - is a very impressive form of garden planting. It looks natural and attracts even the casual eye. Such a tree not only brilliantly performs the function of decorating the garden, but also produces a wonderful fruit harvest every year. Land owners who decide to plant an apple tree receive the advantage of simple crop care.

Standard trees have the following features:

  • due to the shape of the crown, they are able to ventilate better than conventional types of apple trees;
  • Each plant has active development;
  • Fruiting is always fixed at a high level.

The standard winter apple tree has all the same characteristics as the description of the Rodnikovaya variety. The size of the trees reaches medium height. They are endowed with great resistance to cold in winter, and productivity is also noted at a high level. A disease such as scab is not a concern.

The fruits ripen in early autumn and are stored until the New Year.

Kinds

The main vegetation forms of the Rodnikovaya variety are on a semi-dwarf rootstock and standard winter.

On a semi-dwarf rootstock

The clonal rootstocks E56 and Ural 5 are most suitable for Rodnikovaya. The rootstocks make it possible to reduce the size of an adult tree and speed up the start of fruiting. Ural 5 is a promising rootstock for cultivation in the northern regions; it has a powerful root system. The E56 rootstock is characterized by durable wood and very good winter hardiness and drought resistance.

Standard winter

The standard crop has a high trunk, a rounded crown is formed at the top of the trunk. Such trees are compact in size, making care and harvesting much easier.
