Due to the specific smell of the bulbs, hazel grouse can be used as a means of repelling moles and mole crickets from our site.

And although there is no scientific basis for these statements yet (or simply has not been found), personal experience of summer residents shows that the mole leaves the summer cottage after several bulbs of imperial hazel grouse are planted directly in the mole exits.

At the same time, the bulbs of lilies, tulips and other flowers growing nearby are also preserved without damage.

This is my second year of growing imperial hazel grouse, and if this statement is confirmed, I will plant them throughout my summer cottage, since I have a lot of problems with moles and mole crickets.

Seedling

Seeds for tomato seedlings are sown at the end of April. The soil mixture should be light, rich in humus and minerals. Picking is carried out after the appearance of the first true leaf. According to reviews from those who planted Rocker f1, it is better to transplant the sprouts into separate pots. Then, when planted in open ground, the root system of the grown bush will remain undisturbed and the plant will not stop developing.

Temperature

To prevent seedlings from stretching out and acquiring a developed root system, it is necessary to observe the temperature regime. The first days after planting, while the seeds germinate, the soil and air should be warm, 23-25 ​​℃. Then the temperature is reduced to 20 ℃ during the day and 18 ℃ at night. Before planting, a week before, the seedlings begin to harden and are taken out into the fresh air during the day, gradually increasing the time. The room temperature is reduced to 18-19 ℃ during the day and 16-17 ℃ at night.

Water the seedlings with warm water sparingly, avoiding complete drying out and avoiding waterlogging.

Bush formation

Hybrid Rocker f1 belongs to superdeterminant hybrids. The seedlings are ready for planting after 25-30 days and already have 5-6 true leaves. The bush grows low, medium leafy, compact. The growing season for hazel grouse is short, so they are not as often affected by diseases as other bulbous plants.

In too wet soil, oversaturated with nitrogen fertilizers, the bulbs are often affected by rot.

During digging, they are discarded; if the area of ​​rot is small, it is scraped out to healthy tissue and treated with a fungicide.

Rust manifests itself as red spots on the upper side of the leaf blades, and fungal spores are visible below.

Diseased parts of plants are cut off and destroyed, and all plantings are sprayed with an appropriate fungicide. As a preventative measure, one of the most effective, they adhere to the so-called crop rotation - they try not to plant hazel grouse in one place for two seasons in a row.

The bulbs of many plant species have an unpleasant odor reminiscent of horse manure.

Thanks to this “aroma” they are not affected by rodents - mice, rats, moles. Many gardeners plant them to repel annoying pests that proliferate in abundance on the site.

However, for slugs and snails the smell is not a hindrance; they eat both the above-ground part of the plant and the bulb in the soil. To combat them, the area near the root is sprinkled with crushed iron sulfate mixed with sand or fallen pine needles.

Grouse plantings are pestered by the lily beetle - a red insect with a black head - and the onion daylily, or onion rattle - a completely red beetle.

Adults do not cause much harm to plants, but the larvae, which emerge from the masonry on the underside of the leaf, significantly damage the leaves, stems and buds.

There are especially many of these pests if there are lily of the valley or lily of the valley plantings nearby.

There are no special chemical means of protection for them; flower growers successfully use the same preparations used to destroy Colorado potato beetle larvae in potato beds.

Adult beetles are collected by hand - they do not emit any allergens or skin irritants.

Imperial (royal) hazel grouse is a perennial tall herbaceous plant from the Liliaceae family. Carl Linnaeus gave it the name - Fritillaria imperial. This large bulbous crop has long been growing in the mountainous regions of Asia, the eastern Himalayas, subalpine meadows, and Afghan ridges.

Europeans have been raising hazel grouse for almost 400 years. Holland can be considered the second homeland of this plant. It was in this country that new varieties of hazel grouse were developed.

The peduncle is attached to the bottom of the mother bulb; below, at the base of the stem, new baby bulbs are formed. At the end of the growing season, the long stem dries out and then falls. It leaves a hole in the mother's bulb. In autumn, 1-3 buds appear in the depths of this large hole. New flower stalks grow from them next spring.

The bulb has a spherical shape. Its diameter is 10-20 centimeters. The bulb has a strong garlic smell. This part of the plant stores a supply of nutrients used for the formation of stems, leaves and flowers. The bulb also keeps the stem from falling. True, for this it must be buried in the ground to a depth of 25 centimeters.

The flowers of the hazel grouse, in an amount of 6 pieces, are collected in a single inflorescence and located at the top of the shoot. They look like bells, look down and deviate from the peduncle in different directions, then rise up a little. Grouse tomatoes are determinate; as they grow, they form no more than five branches. The very first one appears after the formation of six full-fledged leaves. After the fifth shoot appears, the culture stops growing.

The fruits do not ripen too late; the plant is a mid-ripening variety. After the emergence of seedlings, a little more than 3 months pass before the first harvest, or more precisely, about 115 days. The stepsoning procedure must be carried out, but not often. The height of the crop reaches a minimum of 60 cm, and a maximum of 75 cm.

The appearance of the vegetable is peculiar; the tomatoes are flattened on both sides. Their skin is red in color, divided into small parts by yellow stripes. Thanks to this color and appearance, tomatoes resemble apples.

Ripe fruits reach a weight of 300 grams. The yield of this variety is good; quite a large number of tomatoes are harvested per season. Provided good weather and proper care, up to 6 tomatoes are formed on the branch. Almost all of them mature at the same time. Thanks to this property, the fruits are not susceptible to late blight and do not crack, which is an undoubted advantage of the crop.

It can be grown both in greenhouse conditions and in the garden. Since this variety has large fruits, they are not used for pickling. Tomatoes are suitable for salads and can be processed into tomato juice.

Tomato variety Striped Mr.

The mid-early variety “Striped Mister” is high-yielding, with a bush up to 1.7 meters in height. The bush begins to produce abundant harvests within 2.5-3 months from the moment of planting. The fruits are large, round and slightly flattened, yellow in color with pink or red tinges in the form of spots. The pulp of tomatoes is very pleasant, juicy and fleshy, reminiscent of fruit with its sweet taste. The maximum weight of one tomato is 800 grams. The best yield results are shown in the south and in the middle zone, in open ground. The best regions for cultivation are Astrakhan, Crimea, Voronezh, Belgorod and Rostov-on-Don. In more northern regions it is grown under film covers or in greenhouses.

Even the smallest fruits of the “Russian Soul” variety are not suitable for whole-fruit canning. These tomatoes are very good when pickled in barrels. When fresh, they will serve as a real decoration for any table. Due to the high content of vitamins and balanced taste, they make a very healthy and tasty juice. Pastes and purees are also very good.

The fruits are aromatic and sweet, fleshy, with a smooth surface. Without a white core inside and a yellow spot at the stalk, without a seed inside. Seedlings are planted at a density of 3–4 stems per 1 m², on days 50–55. Plants need staking, removal of stepsons and formation into a single stem.

Based on reviews of the Soul of Siberia tomato, the variety is productive, the rounded fruits are distinguished by a balanced and pronounced taste. The collected fruits tolerate transportation well and ripen if collected unripe.

As soon as one or two full leaves appear on the seedlings, they are picked.

Planting in open ground occurs in the second ten days of May. A week before this, the seedlings need to be hardened off.
