The influence of the Moon on flowers: on sowing and planting, care
Before starting any work with plants, you should look at the Lunar calendar. He will tell you what dates it is recommended to sow, plant and take care of. Thanks to this, the flowers will develop well and give long and rich flowering.
How the phases of the moon affect flowering and ornamental plants
The moon goes through four phases, each having its own effect on flowers:
- New moon. The plants seem to freeze in anticipation. Therefore, planting, replanting, and sowing cannot be carried out. The seeds will not sprout, the flowers will not take root. During the new moon, you can start fighting infection, weeds and parasites, thinning rows or loosening the soil.
- Growing. The upward flow of sap begins. Therefore, plants will grow and develop quickly. It is recommended to collect annuals and prune them, moisten the soil and add nutrient mixtures.
- Full moon. It is an unfavorable phase for working with flowers. It is only allowed to water and add nutrient mixtures, because... the root system will absorb water and fertilizing well.
- Decreasing. You can plant and replant bushes and carry out any maintenance work. If you dig up bulbs during the waning Moon, they will be stored for a long time, and cut flowers will stand in the form of a bouquet for a long time.
When planting, you need to take into account not only the phase, but also the type of plant:
- when the moon is waxing, it is better to work with annuals that have a small root system and at this time begin their growth;
- during the waning month, the sap in the plants moves to the roots, so it is recommended to plant tuberous and bulbous specimens.
Note! It is strictly forbidden to plant any flowers during a Lunar Eclipse. During this period, all biological processes are suspended. Plants sprout poorly, do not grow and do not take root.
Moon in the Zodiacs: how it affects plants
Zodiac signs are no less important than phases. Therefore, flower growers should focus on them:
- Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) and Taurus. Good for planting and sowing flowering specimens. They will grow quickly and produce rich blooms.
- Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn. Neutral Zodiacs, i.e. It is possible to land, but you should not count on the support of the Moon.
- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius. Picking and planting climbing and tall specimens.
- Water signs, Taurus, Capricorn, Libra (with waning month). The most favorable time for planting bulbs.
- A lion. Unfavorable Zodiac, bushes will not develop.
- Aries. Suitable for planting specimens with thorns and thorns, scarlet and red buds.
- Aquarius. Unfavorable sign. If you do not take this into account, the flowers may even die.
You also need to rely on the Zodiac when carrying out agricultural work:
- Aries, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius. Fertilizers and water must not be added.
- Taurus, Capricorn (with a growing month). It is forbidden to carry out loosening, which can damage the roots.
- Sagittarius. Trimming cannot be done, because cut areas will be restored over a long period of time. It is forbidden to weed, this will cause even more weeds.
- Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius. A favorable time for digging up tubers and roots. They will be stored for a long time.
Note! When the Moon is in Sagittarius, it has a bad effect on indoor flowers. It is better to completely refuse to work with them.
How does the Moon affect landings?
The phases of the moon affect landings differently.
- New moon. On the New Moon, many gardeners do not produce any crops; these days are considered the most unfavorable for this work. Not only sowing, but also planting and replanting should not be done. Such an unfavorable period lasts several days. Most often it is three days - the day before the New Moon, the day of the New Moon and the day after it.
- Waxing Crescent. The moon is growing and pulling energy up. These are the most favorable days for any work with plants. Especially with those whose harvest is concentrated above the soil surface. For example, these are any green crops, flowers, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. You can sow the seeds of these crops, plant and pick seedlings.
- Full moon. There is no need to plant or replant now. Fortunately, this period lasts not three days, but only a day. You can loosen the soil, fight weeds or pests, and apply fertilizers.
- Waning moon. It becomes smaller and all the juices rush down to the roots. Consequently, the time has come for any root crops and plants whose harvest ripens underground. For example, peanuts, Jerusalem artichoke, potatoes, any bulbous plants.
Thus, there are only four days in a month when sowing vegetable seeds should be abandoned.
How to determine the time of sowing flowers for seedlings
Most often, failure to grow flower seedlings is associated with the wrong choice of sowing date.
The choice of time when to sow seeds for seedlings depends on 2 factors.
First, we determine the interval when to sow. The choice depends on the vegetative characteristics of the plant crop. Some seedlings will be ready for transplanting into open ground earlier, some later.
In Russia, due to the cold climate, seedlings cannot be transplanted into unprotected soil before May (at least April). The seedlings will simply die during the cold spring nights.
Consequently, those flowers that develop faster are sown later, and those that develop more slowly are sown earlier.
ON A NOTE. What’s good about March is that this month you can plant almost any flowers.
So, we have decided on the time period for sowing. Now you need to choose a specific date for the work.
Here the lunar sowing calendar comes to the aid of the gardener. All flowers except tuberous and bulbous ones are planted during the waxing moon. Accordingly, you need to open the lunar sowing calendar for a specific month and determine the dates when the moon is waxing. On any of these days you can safely sow seeds.
ON A NOTE. Well, the easiest way to determine the time of planting flower seedlings is to look at this information on a packet of seeds. The manufacturer must indicate the recommended sowing time for seedlings and open ground.
Flower care
In winter (January-February) the daylight hours are short, if you do not place lamps over the seedlings, the seedlings will stretch out and become very weak. Flowers are provided with at least 14–16 hours of light per day. In the room where the seedlings are located, the temperature is maintained at +24–26°C and moderate humidity – 70–80%. Flowers at all stages of growth are regularly watered and fertilized periodically. There is no specific regime for all plants; some develop well only in nutritious soil, while others grow better with rare, moderate feeding. Requirements for soil moisture may also differ.
When sowing seeds in warm soil in the spring, the grains are soaked so that shoots appear faster; if sowing the seeds is planned for autumn or early March (on melted snow), the seeds are not germinated.
Flower seedlings are planted in the ground when the threat of return frosts has passed; if after planting the weather suddenly deteriorates, the bushes are temporarily covered with film (on arches or pegs). When the weather is sunny and clear, the plants are shaded a little for about 2-3 days so that burns do not form on the delicate leaves. Garden and indoor flowers are also propagated based on the recommendations of the Lunar calendar; cuttings are planned for the growing phase of the satellite, and root division for the waning phase; in the same position of the Moon, tubers and bulbs are dug up for storage.
In order for decorative garden and indoor plants to delight with lush flowering, it is not enough just to provide them with proper care. All manipulations, from sowing and planting, to fertilizing and watering, must be carried out on favorable days of the Lunar calendar; be sure to take into account the phase of the Moon and the type of root system of the flower. Despite the distrust of some gardeners, the influence of the satellite on vegetation has long been studied and proven.

Lunar calendar for planting flowers for November 2021
On the first day of November, you can sow and transplant plants. But there is a risk of damaging the flowers, which can lead to their death, since during the waning moon they will be weakened. Therefore, all types of work should be performed with caution. On November 2, it is not recommended to remove weeds and plants, or harvest crops. From November 6 to November 18, 2022, the Moon will be in its waxing phase. During this period, it is recommended to plant Cornflowers, Chrysanthemums, Poppies, and Cosmea. There is a full moon on November 19th. On this day you can start removing weeds and spraying flowers. Under no circumstances should you harvest or cut off plant shoots; this can have an extremely negative impact on them.
The most favorable days this month will be November 6, 9, 14, 16, 24 and 28, 2022. These days, it is recommended to carry out all types of work in the garden - planting, replanting, spraying flowers and harvesting.
But on November 3, 4, 11 and 23 it is better to postpone gardening work. These days, the Moon negatively affects all areas of life. Therefore, you should limit yourself not only in planting flowers, but also in making important decisions.
How the phases of the moon affect plants
The lunar calendar is based on the phases of the moon. These phases influence plants in a variety of ways. Moreover, this influence is exerted not only on cultivated plants, but in general on the entire plant world of our planet.
People have been observing the moon, and not only that, since ancient times. As a result, four main phases of the Moon were identified: New Moon, waxing Moon, Full Moon and waning Moon.
Each of these phases represents something like one of the seasons of the year. For example, the New Moon is winter, the waxing Moon represents the height of spring, the Full Moon is summer and, finally, the waning moon is like golden autumn.
However, the Moon also has smaller transition phases, which we practically do not notice. However, in the night sky we are attracted by these four phases, which are very clearly visible.
But, in any of its states, in any of its phases, the Moon affects plants in its own way.
In some phases they grow better, in others they bear fruit better, etc. Therefore, the correct relationship between gardening work and the phases of the moon will help to subsequently obtain a good harvest, and the plants themselves will grow and develop much better.
The basis of the “work” of the lunar calendar and, accordingly, the basic principles that a gardener can follow are:
- A ban on various agricultural activities on the days of new moons, full moons and solar and lunar eclipses;
- During the waxing phase of the Moon, it is better to plant plants that produce above-ground fruits;
- During the waning phase of the Moon, it is better to plant root crops;
- In addition to the phases of the moon, the influence of zodiacal constellations is also taken into account.
As for solar and lunar eclipses, in 2022 they will occur on May 26, June 10, November 19 and December 4
But let's return to the influence of phases on plants. During the New Moon, plants usually absorb very little moisture. Therefore, it is not recommended to water them especially abundantly during this period. But during the Full Moon phase, watering is just necessary.
In the first quarter of the waxing Moon, plant juices rise from the roots along the trunk (or stem) to the leaves. Notice that the same process occurs in the spring. Therefore, it is best to cut greens during this period. Then onions or lettuce will contain the most vitamins. But during the waning moon, the opposite happens, the juices go into the roots, so during this phase the root vegetables will be the most nutritious.
Each phase of the moon has its own duration. This means that during each specific phase you need to have time to do certain work. Moreover, it is not necessary to do this with the onset of the phase. If you don’t have time in the first days, you can start work a little later. However, there are periods when certain works cannot be performed on every day of the phase.
For example, the New Moon lasts three days. During these three days, it is recommended to prune plants, destroy weeds and pests, remove diseased and dried branches, and pinch plants. This is due to the fact that on the New Moon all the juices of the plant go into the roots, and its upper above-ground part “falls asleep” for a while. But there is a small nuance here. These works are carried out only on the day before the new moon and on the day after it. It is not recommended to do anything directly on the new moon itself, as well as on the full moon.
In addition, the New Moon is the best time to harvest root vegetables and collect seeds. When the moon is waxing, it is better to plant plants or replant them. It will also be favorable to prepare cuttings for rooting, fertilize plants, and prepare vegetables.
On the waxing moon it is best to sow the seeds of those plants that produce above-ground harvests, but root crops are planted on the waning moon.
The duration of the full moon is three days. What can you do during this period? You can treat plants against pests, remove weeds, loosen and hill up the soil. But you can’t do any pruning or pinching during this period.
During the waning moon phase, it is best to water and fertilize plants and destroy weeds.
The growth and development of plants is influenced not only by the phases of the moon, but also by its location in a particular sign of the Zodiac.
During the period when the Moon is in such zodiac signs as Cancer, Scorpio, Taurus or Pisces, which are highly productive, sowing seeds will be favorable. Almost every planted seed can sprout.
When the Moon is in the constellation Aquarius, it is not recommended to engage in any work. This is the most unfavorable sign.
These are also Leo and Aries. However, if you are running out of time for landing, you can take advantage of the period of these signs.
The period when the Moon is in such signs as Gemini, Sagittarius and Virgo, although less productive than Cancer, Scorpio, Taurus and Pisces, is still favorable for working on your summer cottage.
In order to correctly navigate the landing days, I will give a table of favorable and unfavorable days during the waxing and waning moon.
And finally, it is believed that with the onset of the 11th lunar day it is better not to do any landing work. Day 12 is better for caring for indoor plants. But the 13th and 14th lunar days are considered the most suitable for a large number of varied works on the site. This includes planting cruciferous and nightshade crops, planting watermelons, melons and pumpkins. The best days for planting root crops and herbs.

Planting flowers in the country
After the question of when to plant flower seedlings in 2022 has been resolved, you need to decide on the correct planting of flowers. Plants are planted in mature soil. Squeeze a handful of soil in your hand - it should be wet enough to form a clump, but at the same time it should crumble if you drop the clump onto a hard surface.
Most often, we plant flowers at home in the spring, and then transplant the flower seedlings into the garden, into a flower bed. Compared to buying seedlings, growing summer and biennial plants has two advantages: this method is cheaper, and the choice of types and varieties of seeds is much wider.
Try to purchase flower varieties designated as F1 hybrids - these are first-generation hybrids that have greater vigor than regular varieties and more attractive flowers. Some perennials can also be grown from seeds, but this requires a lot of time and certain skills.
When planting small plants, the planting hole is filled with soil taken from the same hole. To cover the roots of larger plants, it is better to prepare a planting mixture of 1 part turf soil, 1 part wet peat and 3 handfuls of bone meal per wheelbarrow.
Temperature
Comfortable temperatures for flower seedlings are from +23 to +25. It can be grown at +20, but then the seedlings will grow a little slower.
But lower (as well as higher) temperatures are contraindicated for seedlings.
Watering
If you want the seedlings to be good, they need to be well watered. Good watering does not mean abundant irrigation. This means that water must be added as needed.
Namely, when the top layer of soil dries out. The amount of water should be such as to saturate the entire earthen ball.
IMPORTANT! Stagnation of moisture in a pot is detrimental to seedlings. Therefore, be sure to ensure good drainage in containers.
Lighting and location
Containers with seedlings should be placed in the most illuminated areas, but away from drafts and glass. If the seedling comes into contact with cold glass, it may become sick.
There should be enough lighting. At least 12-14 hours. If necessary, arrange illumination from UV LED strips.
Picking and feeding
We have specially combined these points into one. Picking is carried out if you sowed seeds in a common container.
15 days after the procedure, the flowers can be fed with growth regulators and stimulants, as well as complex liquid fertilizers.
Common mistakes
There is nothing wrong with making a mistake when growing flower seedlings. But it’s still better to prevent mistakes.
So, here is a list of the most common ones.
- Sowing seeds too deep. Many annuals have very small grains. There is no need to sow them deeply - they will take a long time to sprout. Use surface seeding.
- Too much and frequent irrigation. Inexperienced gardeners believe that the more water you pour, the better. It's a delusion. Watering flower seedlings should be moderate and, most importantly, regular. It is also good to loosen the soil after irrigation.
- Sowing on a new moon or full moon. March 13 and 28 fall on weekends in 2022. At this time, many are engaged in sowing and caring for seedlings. But on new and full moons, flowers should be left alone. A good time to sow seedlings is the waxing moon.
- Using a low-quality substrate. Before sowing seeds, summer residents prepare the substrate, containers and seed material. Often, in an attempt to save money, planting is done in garden soil. This is wrong, since garden soil is very heavy. It will be difficult for seeds to germinate in it. In addition, spores of pathogenic fungi often remain in such soil. There is no need to reinvent the wheel; sow flower seeds in purchased seedling soil.
