Large-fruited strawberry varieties with photographs and descriptions

LATE VARIETIES

FEDERICA-Italy

A very late variety with high resistance to the most common fungal diseases. Suitable for all types of soil; in rainy weather the berries do not spoil, which significantly reduces losses when growing this variety in open ground. The berries weigh on average 35 g, have a beautiful conical short shape in the shape of a heart. They have a rich red color when fully ripe, which can sometimes be very intense but still vibrant. The skin is shiny, the flesh is moderately dense, juicy, sweet with a dessert taste. Productivity is stated from 700 g to 1000 g of berries per bush. The berries are well stored, can be transported over long distances, and do not darken after picking.

FERNANDO - Netherlands

Mid-late variety.
The berries are dark red, have a beautiful conical shape when fully ripe and have a very strong aroma. The average weight of a berry is 35 g. The first berries can be larger - 40-50 g. The berries are large, round-conical, cherry-red. The pulp is dense, sugary-juicy, without voids, with a wonderful honey taste and bright strawberry aroma. The shape of the fruit is a thickened cone, the flesh is dense, juicy, and the surface is glossy. The taste of the berries is excellent with a pronounced strawberry aroma, sweet. The yield according to information is 1.0 kg -1.2 kg per bush, which is considered a very good result for late varieties. The density of the berry allows it to be stored for a long time in the refrigerator and transported over long distances.

Disease resistance is high.

PURPLE WONDER - PURPLE MIRACLE

SUPER SUPER NEW!

=First purple strawberry. Color and aroma are a breakthrough in breeding in recent years.

Incredible purple fruits have a very sweet and unusual taste. June is the time for neat and attractive berries to ripen on bushes with

beautiful full-lobed, bright green leaves.

A one-of-a-kind strawberry for the most demanding connoisseurs.

Dr. Courtney Weber's collaborators at Cornell University are doing the breeding.

Patent applied for.=

This is our first season, having received the signal berries, so far we can say that their size is average, the color is very dark, and the taste is pleasant. Perhaps due to the “monsoon” rains, the aroma has not yet fully revealed itself, but the potential is felt. Let's wait until next year. We are always happy to have varieties that have their own “zest”: Medium-sized root = 3-4 points.

GREAT BRITAIN

Origin unknown. The berries are round-conical, very large, even when planting seedlings in spring, dark cherry, from 40 grams, the largest up to 120 grams, even in shape, not decorative. Very tasty and aromatic. with a shiny surface. Plant stability and vigor are excellent. Productivity more than 2 kg per bush. One of the leaders among super-large-fruited ones. The root, despite its tightness, is good = 4-5 points (rather an exception to the rule).

WEBENAL

“Freaky” (as they call it) variety with beautiful berries of excellent taste!

One of my favorite varieties, always among the best.

Webenal (Webenil) is a variety of unknown origin. The berries are original spindle-shaped, 6 or more centimeters long, weighing up to 100 grams, mass harvested up to 40 grams, dark cherry, amazing taste and aroma, one-dimensional, identical in shape, no small ones. Potential yield of more than 1.5 kg per bush.

Resistance to ticks is average, resistance to other diseases and pests is significant, very high transportability. The root is good, 4-5 points.

The bushes are strong, semi-spreading with powerful peduncles. The berries are located below the level of the leaves.

MICE SCHINDLER (Wedenswil-7)

Brought out in Germany in the early 30s from crossing the varieties Lucida Perfecta x Müllerova.
Small in size, low, spreading, with obliquely growing leaves, weakly leafy. Medium sized berries. The first berry weighs 10-12 g (up to 20 g). The average weight of the berries is about 5 g. They are round in shape or slightly compressed on the sides, sometimes angular with a depression at the point of attachment to the calyx, the grains are strongly pressed. The color is dark red, shiny, uniform throughout the berry. The pulp is red and dark red, tender, sweet, unusual taste, very aromatic. The shape is similar to a raspberry, hence the popular name “strawberry-raspberry”. This variety is exactly for those who like to enjoy berries just in the garden. Transportability is poor. in Ukraine it goes under the name Vedenbil-7, it is also popularly called “strawberry-raspberry”. Late ripening variety. The berry looks like a large raspberry, dark red, round, the grains are strongly pressed in. A large percentage of berries are irregular in shape. The first berries are the largest - on average the size of a 5-kopeck coin, the rest are small. The taste is strawberry-strawberry, unique, unlike any other variety, very tasty berry. Many berry growers recognize this variety as the best in taste. The berries of this variety are very expensive for sale. The root is very small = 2-3 points. CHAMORA TURUSI

Judging by the sources, the variety is of Japanese selection with very large berries and high yield, up to 3 kg per bush. The variety is late ripening, the first berries ripen on June 15-20, mass harvest from June 25-28. Fruiting is very long, but subject to regular watering. There are a lot of berries for 2-3 years, they are mostly large and therefore require regular watering, as they ripen and grow simultaneously within 3-4 days, gaining their inherent strawberry aroma and dark color. If there is not enough moisture, the berries begin to partially ripen without Having gained size, they wilt, as when drying, but at the same time they become very sweet with a pronounced strawberry aroma (the last berries to be picked have this taste). The bushes are very powerful already in the first year of planting. In the second or third year, the bushes grow very strongly, so I highly recommend planting widely, in two-line rows of 60/60 centimeters. The leaves are very large, light green, soft to the touch, tall peduncles. Each peduncle bears the first, very large berry weighing 120-140 grams, in the third year there may be 10-15 such peduncles, respectively, and the same number of such berries.

The mustaches take root over a long period of time, so they are usually ready only by September 15th; the size, like all tight-whiskered varieties, is no more than 3 points. keep this in mind.

Description

Strawberry Gloria is represented by a small bush, which is slightly raised from the ground and very spreading. Not a lot of bushes

,,covered with foliage and have good shoot formation. A large number of peduncles appear on them, which are located slightly below the leaves. Due to their massive berries, they bend towards the ground. The inflorescences of the strawberry variety are compact and multi-flowered. Due to the fact that flowers of both sexes appear on strawberry bushes, the plant is able to pollinate itself.

During the first two harvests, the Gloria strawberry will delight its owner not only with the abundance of fruits, but also with their weight. The average weight of berries at the first picking can reach 80g. They are asymmetrically located and have a rounded shape. A neck forms at the end of the strawberry. The fruits themselves have an attractive appearance not only because of their shape, but also because of their bright red shiny color.

Sometimes the surface of the fruit may be uneven. The stalk is easily detached from the berry, as is the calyx. The pulp of the Gloria strawberry is very dense, but at the same time quite juicy. It has a red tint and an attractive, not very strong aroma. As for taste, this berry is quite sweet, but at the same time not cloying.

Strawberries of the Gloria variety have a high level of frost resistance and drought resistance. Also, the strawberry variety is resistant to various types of diseases and pests. A distinctive feature of the bushes of the crop is its high yield.

Due to the fact that Gloria berries are quite dense, they tolerate transportation well, as a result of which they do not lose their attractive appearance.

MALVINA is currently the latest available single-fruiting strawberry variety that is worth cultivating. This variety sets new standards in the market segment for sales of late varieties of berries and, of course, for personal consumption. Root good by 4 points A variety that has been included in the TOP 10 of our best varieties for many years. Articles about strawberries

Introduction

You cannot rely only on yourself; you need to listen to the opinions of experts and firmly decide which variety is suitable for growing in your climate zone.

Over the past decades, breeders have developed many varieties that differ in different winter hardiness, resistance to diseases, taste of berries, and fruiting period.

Let's consider varieties of strawberries of early, medium and late ripening, as well as varieties of remontant garden strawberries and a series of strawberry varieties "Vima".

Proper planting conditions are the key to a generous harvest

For good growth and fruiting, strawberries need to be provided with a plot of fertile soil. Although the berry is not picky about the soil, in soils rich in humus, strawberries reveal themselves in all their glory, produce a good harvest and delight with the pleasant taste and aroma of the berries.
