Description of Handsome cucumbers

Cucumber Handsome Hikmet f1 is a mid-season variety, the first harvest of which is harvested 40-45 days after the seeds hatch. The variety belongs to parthenocarpic plants with strong immunity to shade.

Hybrid Handsome Hikmet has fruits up to 10 cm long with dark green skin and barely noticeable white stripes. Cucumbers are also covered with small but moderate tubercles and small white spines.

Cucumbers of this variety are characterized by tasty and juicy pulp that does not have empty formations. The fruits Krasavchik Hikmet f1 are suitable for fresh use and for pickling.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Despite the fact that cucumbers are excellent for growing at home, vegetable growers recommend familiarizing yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of the variety. This is necessary so that the cultivator understands the whimsical nature of the variety.

pros

  1. Like the City Cucumber f1 variety, Handsome Hikmet is suitable for cultivation on the balcony;
  2. Cucumbers have excellent taste and appearance;
  3. The variety belongs to the shade-tolerant varieties of the crop;
  4. Krasavchik Hikmet fruits have a high vitamin composition;
  5. Relatively early and friendly ripening of greens;
  6. High productivity of the variety even when cultivated at home.

Minuses

Breeders involved in developing the crop note that the variety has no disadvantages. However, cultivators have the opposite point of view. According to vegetable growers, Handsome Hikmet f1 cucumbers do not have seeds for the next planting and need to be harvested in a timely manner.

External parameters of such varieties

It is best to grow cucumbers that are self-pollinating. They do not need the help of insects or bees for their own further development. Such plants are quite compact and do not take up much space on your balcony. The stem is tall, and the leaves are so small that they are very well suited for a window or balcony location. The root system is developed at a high level. A fairly large number of ovaries can form between the nodes. As the description says, about 30-40 fruits can form in one node.

The fruits are more like gherkins. Their size is small, making them best for canning or pickling. Children love to eat them raw. The size of one fruit rarely exceeds 7 cm. But their weight is no more than 70 g. The shape of the fruit resembles a cylinder and has a rich green color. Their taste qualities are highly characteristic. Balcony cucumbers have a sweet taste and no bitterness. The variety of balcony cucumbers is quite early and ripens in 30-40 days.

Advantages and disadvantages

As soon as the question concerns balcony cucumbers, the following positive qualities are noted in them:

  • versatility in use and excellent taste;
  • unpretentiousness to the location, that is, they are completely independent of shady conditions or watering;
  • ripen quickly;
  • are not exposed to common diseases;
  • high yield rates;
  • self-pollinating.

No particular disadvantages were found in this variety of cucumbers.

Landing rules

The seeds of the variety can be planted in a permanent place, or cucumbers can be grown in seedlings. Direct sowing of seeds is allowed when cultivating Krasavchik Hikmet cucumber on the balcony or in greenhouse conditions.

Preparing the landing site

It is recommended to plant cucumbers in loose soil well-fed with mineral components. If the crop is planted in open beds, they need to be prepared in the fall. After harvesting, it is recommended to thoroughly plow the soil and feed the beds with manure, humus, or other mineral fertilizers.

In the spring, the soil is loosened and, several weeks before planting, covered with a thick film so that the soil warms up sufficiently.

How to properly germinate seeds

It is quite easy to germinate the seeds of Handsome Hikmet f1. To begin with, the seeds are treated with a growth stimulator. Next, it is recommended to wrap the seed in damp gauze and leave it for several days.

Also, cucumber seeds need hardening: they are dipped in hot water (temperature from 50 degrees) for 2-3 minutes, and then in cold water for the same time.

Next, the seeds of Handsome Hikmet need to be planted to a depth of 1-2 cm in small peat containers. After planting, future cucumber bushes are removed to a warm and well-lit place. Before seeds germinate, vegetable growers recommend maintaining a room temperature of 24-26 degrees. After pecking the seedlings, the temperature should be lowered to 18-20 degrees.

Scheme and timing of planting seedlings

The variety is planted in open soil at the age of 35-50 days. The main thing is that the seedlings have 4-6 full leaves. It is necessary to plant Krasavchik Hikmet seedlings at a distance of 60 cm between bushes and 20 cm between beds. After planting, it is advisable to cover the soil with film.

Caring for the first shoots

Before germination, containers with planted seeds are covered with film or glass . Once greenery appears on the surface of the soil, the coating must be removed. Further care is necessary for the development of young shoots. At this stage, many are faced with the problem of the death of sprouts, so it is important to provide proper conditions.

Lighting

The vegetative process requires good lighting. If the window is in the shade of trees or on the north side, you need to install daylight lamps as an additional source.

Watering

Watering
is carried out with settled water at room temperature. Irrigation should be carried out daily, and when using additional lighting - 2 times a day. Although cucumbers are moisture-loving plants, it is necessary to ensure that the water does not stagnate in the cups, otherwise the roots will rot .

Top dressing

Complementary food for seedlings is introduced twice: 2 weeks after germination and another week later . A solution of water (6 l) and urea (a tablespoon) is used as a nutrient liquid. A glass of fertilizer is consumed per seedling.

Transplanting seedlings into boxes

Transplanting the seedlings
After the formation of 2-3 leaves on the stem, it is time to transplant the seedlings to a permanent place. The container for one bush should be 5-8 liters with a hole in the bottom to drain excess water. The bottom is covered with a 5-10 cm layer of drainage (pebbles, expanded clay, crushed stone). As a substrate, prepare a mixture of equal portions:

  • nutritious soil;
  • peat;
  • humus;
  • sawdust.
  • Before planting seedlings, the soil is fertilized with a liquid composition of:
  • water (10 l);
  • nitrophoska (2 tsp);
  • ash (glass);
  • urea (1 tsp).

Carefully place the extracted lump of soil and the root of the seedling into the prepared hole. This way you can avoid damaging the weak root system.

Features of care

Agrotechnical procedures are necessary to ensure that cucumbers bear fruit well and do not wither. The variety Handsome Hikmet f1 needs regular watering, fertilizing and the formation of bushes.

How often to water

Cucumbers need to be watered as the soil dries out. As a rule, watering work is carried out every 2-3 days. Water the beds with the variety with warm, settled liquid. Do not allow the soil to dry out. After watering, you should loosen the soil with cucumbers. Loosening is carried out to a depth of 3-4 cm. The procedure is carried out with a pitchfork in order to damage the root system of the cucumber.

Formation of bushes

The bushes of the variety are tied into the main stem. The stems of Handsome Hikmet are tied with a strong rope to pre-installed trellises. Also, the bushes of the variety need to be shaped. To do this, vegetable growers recommend removing 3-5 leaves from the lower axils, and pinch the next 3-5 leaves.

Also, if the plant Handsome Hikmet f1 exceeds the expected height, the top of the stem must be directed towards the soil.

Fertilizer

It is recommended to fertilize the soil with cucumber varieties twice during the cultivation period. The most effective fertilizing is a solution with the substance “Agricola”. In addition, the soil must be nourished with solutions of manure, litter, superphosphate, potassium and other mineral components.

Variety care

The Balcony variety is unpretentious, but still needs attention.

Garter

Garter
The vine of the plant is actively growing, which requires timely garter . A wire is stretched over the container with the seedling at a height of approximately 170 cm. The twine is lowered from it to the pot, wrapped (not tightly!) around the stem several times and raised again to the wire, fixing the connection. This method will protect the plant from damage.

Pinch

The cucumber vine is formed into one stalk . For these purposes, you need to periodically remove the mustache. After the branch reaches the height of the wire, you should pinch off the end. Side shoots are also removed, this will give strength to the main stem for development. From the remaining shoots, the pinch is done above the ovary and one leaf is saved; which one is up to you to decide, apparently, the largest one.

Watering and fertilizing

Irrigation of seedlings is carried out 2-3 times a week. The whip should also be moistened by spraying. Water for irrigation is pre-settled and heated under sunlight to a temperature of at least 17°C. After transplanting the seedlings to a permanent place, it is necessary to introduce fertilizers every 10 days . Mineral complex baits or tree resin, an infusion of tea leaves and eggshells are suitable.

Main diseases and pests

Hybrid Handsome Hikmet is immune to powdery mildew and root rot. However, cucumbers are susceptible to Alternaria blight and pests such as melon aphids and sprout flies.

Alternaria blight

Alternaria blight is a pathology, as a result of which the bushes of the variety become covered with convex small spots. The cucumbers themselves also become covered with spots, begin to curl and acquire a soft consistency.

After the disease has been detected, experts recommend treating the Krasavchik Hikmet bushes with chemicals “Bravo”, “Polyram” or “Quadris”. You can also treat cucumber bushes with Bordeaux mixture and a solution of copper oxychloride.

melon aphid

The melon aphid is a small pest that can destroy the Handsome Hikmet crop in just a few days. In addition to the fact that the pest drinks all the juice from the variety plant, it is capable of transmitting various infections to the Krasavchik Hikmet bushes.

When melon aphids appear on the bushes of the variety, a whitish coating forms, and the stems and leaves themselves are covered with small insects. To prevent the process of plant withering, the bushes of the variety must be treated with Metaphos, Decich Lux, Inta-Vir or Actofit. Vegetable growers also recommend treating plants with folk remedies: a solution of shag or tobacco (300 grams of tobacco and 10 liters of water or a solution of vinegar (7 tablespoons of vinegar per bucket of water).

Sprout fly

The germ fly pest appears on the plant during the formation of seedlings. The fly does not exceed 3 mm in size, therefore it is an extremely undesirable guest of any garden. The insect feeds on the sap of the Handsome Hikmet plant, which causes the process of plant formation and development to stop. The bushes also wilt, and small holes form on the leaves.

The chemicals Fufanon, Iskra, Kemifos or Novaktion help fight germ flies. The beds with the hybrid Handsome Hikmet are also treated with “traditional medicine” preparations: a solution of birch tar (1 tablespoon of tar and a bucket of water), a solution of mustard and ash, or lime and tobacco dust.

How and when to harvest

It is advisable to pick cucumbers as the fruits ripen Handsome Hikmet f1. It is undesirable to allow the fruits of the variety to overgrow, as they begin to become slightly bitter and overgrow.

Cucumbers must be stored in cool rooms with temperatures up to 5 degrees. Often, Handsome Hikmet gherkins are stored in basements or cellars. To store greens, use containers with holes for oxygen. This way the fruits do not rot and are ready to last much longer.

If any Handsome Hikmet fruit has undergone a rotting process, it is necessary to remove not only it, but also the cucumbers that came into contact with it. This is done to eliminate the risk of the other cucumber rotting.
