The winner of our vote was a productive variety with the beautiful name Summer Sun - this is how the original name Summer Sun is translated into Russian.

The variety is indeterminate (some producers offer Summer Sun as a hybrid), the bushes reach a height of 2 m. In this regard, they require regular staking. The plant produces many stepsons, which producers recommend plucking off to form a bush of 1-2 stems. You should not plant more than 3 bushes per 1 sq.m, because they will interfere with each other.

Small - 2.5-3 cm - amber-colored fruits seem to be visible through. Due to their high sugar content, they have a very sweet taste. Despite the fact that it is considered mid-season, it bears fruit in the greenhouse until mid-autumn.

Rich sweet harvest

Among the sweet varieties, you can choose those that are distinguished by their numerous harvests. These tomatoes are suitable for open ground and greenhouses. What varieties can you choose for open ground?

The Sweetfingers tomato begins to ripen after 107 days. Low-growing, compact bushes, reaching a height of 55 cm. Can be grown in both open and closed beds. The elongated fruits with a spout weigh approximately 80 g. The plant develops even in cold weather and is resistant to many diseases.

Tomato Sweet Heart F1 is an early-ripening, high-yielding hybrid; you only need to wait 90 days until ripening. Determinate plant. The bushes are low-growing, about 80 cm. Red-scarlet rounded fruits have a smooth, glossy surface. A distinctive feature is the presence of a spout at the base. Shows resistance to major tomato diseases. It is necessary to tie, remove side branches and form a stem.

Hybrid Premium F1 belongs to an early ripening tomato variety; from germination to fruit formation it can take only 85 days. Low-growing tomato bushes, up to 70 cm high. Tolerates temperature fluctuations well, many diseases are avoided. Requires pinching and formation into two stems. Red, round tomatoes weigh approximately 113 g and have a long shelf life.

The Italian sweet tomato has medium ripening limits. Belongs to the indeterminate group, the stem stretches up to 200 cm. It is recommended to grow in a greenhouse; during growth it requires tying to a support. The best results are obtained by forming two stems. The third place was taken by the Black Cherry variety. Its name is translated into Russian as Black cherry and Black cherry. Like all the previous ones, the variety is indeterminate. The fruits appear early: only 90-100 days pass from sowing to harvest. The variety is resistant to many tomato diseases, which attracts gardeners.

The color of the juicy round tomatoes is red-brown with a chocolate tint. Collected in brushes of 10-20 pieces. Dense, juicy, tasty fruits are good for salads, for canning, and for self-consumption.

The next place after the top three is fourth – the Honey Drop tomato. The name speaks for itself: the fruits are yellow in color and resemble either a pear or a drop in shape. The variety is indeterminate, the bushes grow more than 2 m in height. Can be used for growing both in a greenhouse and in open ground. However, as those who have already grown Honey Drop advise, it is still better to plant tomatoes of this variety in a greenhouse, because In open beds, the yield is lower, and not all the fruits have time to ripen. They will sing until frost. You can ripen in the apartment. Keeping quality is good.

Medium early variety. It is recommended to grow in 2-3 stems. The tops are powerful, the leaves resemble potato leaves. Fruits with a pronounced sweet taste.

Olga Davidova : “The honey drop is very sweet, without sourness, the brush is very decorative.”

Vera Zhukova : “Honey drop is a liana-shaped bush with small fruits. Very sweet. Children eat sweets instead. When we get together with a group, I put a full bowl on the table - it’s swept away instantly.”

In fifth place in our rating is the indeterminate variety Black Cherry. An early-ripening, easy-to-care variety with red-brown fruits, recommended for growing in a greenhouse. Needs a garter and obligatory pinching, otherwise it will fill the entire territory. Form into 1-2 stems. It is recommended to plant up to 4 bushes per 1 sq.m.

The first fruits appear approximately 110 days after germination and ripen until frost. The tomatoes are dense and sweet. They can be eaten both fresh and canned.

Reviews from our readers about the Black Cherry variety

Svetlana Lazareva : “I will always plant these “cherries” - Samer San and Black Cherry! Sweet, super-yielding, not small, and set at 100% in such a difficult summer. My granddaughter asks me to pick small tomatoes instead of raspberries!”

Snegirek

Amateur tomato growers put the Snegirek variety in 6th place in our TOP list of cherry tomatoes. It does not belong to cherry because its fruits are quite large - 90-140 g. However, it has a very small “growth”: the bush does not grow more than 40 cm. Perhaps for this reason, tomato growers classified it as cherry. Thanks to its low height, the bullfinch can even be grown on a windowsill. The variety is easy to care for and does not require pinching. The fruits begin to ripen 3 months after emergence.

Reviews from our readers about the Snegirek variety

Anna Volkova : “Snegirek is an indoor tomato, which I grow on a south-facing windowsill in winter, and take it out into the garden in summer. One of the copies lives with me for 2.5 years. I just rejuvenate it from time to time: I cut off the fruit-bearing branches and old leaves, then a new replacement emerges from the axils. I prune 3-4 times a year. In summer, the tomato is strewn with fruits. Last Christmas there were seven fruits, and at Easter there were three times as many.”

Growing conditions

How to grow sweet tomatoes? To make tomatoes sweet and meaty, it’s not enough to choose the right variety. The soil must have enough nutrients, and there are also other secrets:

  • The most delicious are varietal tomatoes, not hybrid ones;
  • to add sweetness, fertilizers are added, such as potassium or wood ash, which promote better fruit filling and improve taste;
  • During fruiting, you should not apply nitrogen fertilizers, as they promote the growth of greenery;
  • the amount of sunlight affects the sugar content; the more sunlight there is, the sweeter the tomatoes will be;
  • you should limit the amount of watering during fruiting.
