Description of the tomato variety Matias, features of cultivation and care

Characteristics of tomatoes and varieties

This is an indeterminate tall tomato bush, intended for growing in a greenhouse. The bush is formed into one stem with the removal of all stepsons. The foliage is average. Growth up to 2 meters in closed ground. In open areas it is lower - up to 1.5 meters. About 115 days pass from germination to the start of fruiting - it refers to mid-early varieties. The variety is practically in first place in terms of yield: up to 15 kilograms of fruit are harvested from one square meter.

Description of the fruits: flat-round, slightly ribbed, red, the weight of a ripe tomato reaches 180 grams, individual specimens up to 300 grams. The taste is excellent, sweet, without sourness. When cut, the fruit has up to 5 cells with seeds. The pulp is juicy and dense; when ripe, there is no green spot near the stalk. The variety is used universally - tomatoes are processed into juice and paste, summer salads are prepared from them, and they are marinated as a whole.

The hybrid is resistant to fusarium, cladosporiosis, verticillium, root rot, TMV and blossom end rot. Breeder: Monsanto (Holland).

Features and technical characteristics of tomato cluster hybrids

To understand in more detail the features of raceme tomatoes, you need to familiarize yourself with their technical characteristics.

The main feature of the crop is considered to be the ripening of the crop in small clusters, which can contain about 10-20 tomatoes. All cluster varieties are divided into three subgroups, which differ in the size of the clusters with ripe tomatoes:

  • large-fruited, weighing about 900-1000 grams;
  • medium-fruited, which grow up to 500 grams;
  • small brushes weighing 250-300 grams.

The fruits of many raceme varieties are covered with a strong and reliable skin that does not crack. Most often, tomatoes are small and weigh 50-60 grams. They are used in cooking to create preserves and vegetable salads.

Hybrid qualities

A hybrid from crossing two varieties of tomatoes has the following characteristics:

  1. Excellent taste.
  2. Disease resistance.
  3. Excellent commercial quality.
  4. Keeping quality.
  5. Transportability.
  6. Great looks.
  7. Easy to care for.

Due to its high commercial qualities, the hybrid is often used for cultivation on farms and vegetable factories. It is also in demand among gardeners.

Agricultural technology for growing a hybrid

Like other varieties and hybrids of tomatoes, Matias is grown in seedlings. To get an early harvest, seeds are planted for seedlings in mid or early March (depending on the weather conditions of the region). After planting in fertile, loose soil, containers with seedlings are covered with film until the seeds germinate. As soon as the seeds hatch, the film is removed and the plants continue to be grown in an open, warm and sunny place, maintaining the room temperature at 24–26 degrees.

Until two permanent leaves appear on the sprouts, the soil is watered by spraying.

After the leaves appear, the seedlings are planted in separate containers and grown until the onset of warm weather conditions outside. Plants are transplanted into the greenhouse in May-June; this also depends on the temperature in the room. The optimal values are 22–25 degrees during the day and 16–20 at night.

Seedlings are planted in a checkerboard pattern with a distance between plants of 50 by 40 centimeters. One square meter produces 3-4 plants.

Disease and pest control

"Asvon" are tomatoes resistant to almost all diseases. They are usually not infected with late blight. However, during a late blight epidemic, it is recommended to treat plants with Bordeaux mixture for timely prevention. Treatment of bushes with Fitosporin M helps against gray rot. Tomato tops attract flying insects, as well as other pests. They are destroyed using various specific insecticides, the treatment is repeated 2-3 times with an interval of 7-10 days.

It is important to remember the secrets of productivity:

  1. Selection of high-quality seed material.
  2. Maintain crop rotation on the site; tomatoes should not be planted in areas after potatoes, eggplants, melons and cucumbers.
  3. Treatment of the area before sowing with a solution of copper sulfate 1 tbsp. l. for 10 liters of boiling water.
  4. Disinfection. Before planting a tomato, 1 day before, you can burn a sulfur smoke bomb, thus destroying fungal spores.
  5. Compliance with the regime and volume of watering.
  6. Compliance with the regime of feeding tomatoes at the roots and tops. These events alternate every 10 days.

Disease prevention and pest control.

Plant care

After planting the seedlings, they are constantly looked after to obtain a high-quality and early harvest.

  1. Plant garter. Produced immediately after planting and as it grows.
  2. Stepsonning. The variety is usually grown in one stem, so all the stepsons are removed. If you decide to grow 2-3 stems, then leave several stepsons.
  3. Loosening and watering. Immediately after watering, the soil under the bushes needs to be loosened so that the lump of earth above the roots does not retain moisture and air access.
  4. Fertilizer. When growing tomatoes, feed the soil and greenery of the plants at least three times a season.
  5. Harvesting. To obtain a large number of ripe fruits, the crop is harvested immediately after ripening. Ripe fruits retard the growth of young tomatoes. Characteristics of fertilizing: mineral and organic.

Determinate varieties

This group is even more numerous than tall tomatoes. They are not very productive, but gardeners love them more, since care is much easier and endless pinching is not required. But if you do it and form it into 2-3 stems, then the tomatoes will turn out larger than without pinching.

The best domestic large varieties of tomatoes are considered to be Krasnodar amateur tomatoes:

  1. Crimson giant. Early, high-yielding (up to 12-15 kg per bush), plant height up to 1 m, fruit weight up to 700 g. Resistant to most diseases.
  2. Openwork. Belongs to universal determinate varieties up to 80 cm in height. Mid-early - 110 days, tomato weight 400 g, resistant to heat and lack of moisture. With quality care it can produce up to 30 kg per sq.m! Azhur tomatoes are perfectly stored and transported, an ideal variety for the market.
  3. Pudovik is a pink variety of folk selection. Fleshy and very tasty tomatoes in a hearty size reach up to 900 g, and some can weigh up to 1.5 kg. The height of the bush is 1.2-1.5 m; it does not require pinching.
  4. Alsou is a new tomato with the most delicious red and heart-shaped fruits. Weight from 300 to 700 g, yield - up to 7 kg per bush. The bush is not tall - about 70 cm, does not shoot, ripens early - 90 days from germination.

Among other standard large-fruited varieties, it is worth paying attention to the following: Alaska, Parodist, Bobcat, Boni-M, and for greenhouses - Bif, Igranda, Major, Russian Troika. https://babushkinadacha.ru/ovoshchnye-gryadki/neobyichnyie-sorta-pomidorov-s-foto-i-opisaniem.html. https://babushkinadacha.ru/ovoshchnye-gryadki/neobyichnyie-sorta-pomidorov-s-foto-i-opisaniem.html

general characteristics

The Big Momma tomato variety was developed by Russian breeders. It was included in the State Register in 2015. The originator is the selection plant.

The main task was to restore the unforgettable taste and aroma of tomatoes, while maintaining the disease resistance characteristic of Dutch varieties and immunity to the unfavorable conditions of central Russia. And do this without the use of GMOs, using only traditional breeding methods.

Description of fruits and bush

The plant is determinate, medium leafy, bush height is 50-60 cm in open ground, in greenhouses it can reach 70 cm.

The first flower cluster is formed after 7-8 internodes; from 5 to 8 flowers are tied on the cluster.

The fruits are smooth, round and flat-round in shape, slightly ribbed, large, weighing up to 250 g, and do not crack during transportation or improper watering.

The color of the unripe fruit is light green, the ripe one is deep red. The tomatoes are medium-density, multi-chambered, with sugar on the break, sweet, aromatic and juicy.

Rating by State Register tasters – 5 out of 5.

Productivity

Big Momma's seeds are Russian, they are adapted to the real conditions of the central zone of the Russian Federation. As a result, the variety shows consistently high yields even in bad weather conditions (rainy or dry summers, high or low temperatures).

Subject to the recommended agricultural practices, from 1 sq. m of plantings, up to 9 kg of fruits are collected or 1.8 - 2 kg from one bush.

Area of application of fruits

Thanks to its true tomato flavor, the main purpose of the Big Momma tomato is salad. Juice, ketchup, and pastes are also made from it.

The variety is suitable for drying and freezing. For whole-fruit canning, only small fruits that have not reached commercial maturity are used.

Resistance to diseases and pests

The variety is noted to have high immunity to traditional nightshade diseases - bacteriosis, spotting, and blossom end rot. And thanks to its early ripening period, it does not have time to “catch” the traditional late summer disease - late blight.

Tomato varieties by type of use

When choosing varieties and hybrids of tomatoes, do not forget about their purpose. Salad, canning, universal, and maybe for processing into tomato products? The choice is great and allows everyone to find what they need.
