Landing Features

Cherries are grown using the seedling method. Planting seeds in containers is carried out in February-March. Strengthened seedlings are transferred to a greenhouse or greenhouse in April-May, and to permanent open beds only with the onset of stable warm weather.

The description of the Shy Blush tomato states that it is preferable to plant no more than 3-4 plants per 1 m². Stepping is carried out as needed. It is better to form a bush with 4–5 stems. There are an average of 14–20 tomatoes on one bunch. In this case, the ripening of fruits on one bunch occurs simultaneously, which allows you to cut off the whole bunch and pick each tomato separately.

Advantages and disadvantages, latest reviews from gardeners

Having Blush in your garden bed is a real success and a reason to be proud. This is because the collectible hybrid has an exceptional set of advantages:

  1. Productivity. Despite the small size of tomatoes, you can collect at least 3 kg of fruit from a bush.
  2. Composition of tomatoes. Regular consumption of tomatoes will help restore the balance of vitamins in the body. The fruits are rich in vitamins K and B, and also contain E and A. In addition, tomatoes are a natural source of a whole range of microelements from zinc to fluorine. The sourness in taste reminds of the presence of ascorbic acid in the composition.
  3. Taste qualities. A worthy choice for lovers of sweet tomatoes. Many even use the fruits in desserts.
  4. Decorative look. The photo shows how the tomatoes “burn” with tassels; the oblong-sharp shape adds piquancy.
  5. Care will not bring any trouble, the tomato is resistant to coolness and rarely gets sick.

Reviews:

  • If harvesting is not planned, you can limit yourself to a couple of bushes. The yield is high, enough for the whole family. Tomatoes are easy to pick, they ripen immediately in clusters (Natalia, Volgograd).
  • The taste of tomatoes depends on the lighting. On the sunny side the harvest is sweeter. In rainy summers, the tomatoes turn out larger, but the taste is not as rich (Oleg, Krasnoyarsk).

Plant care

Tomato Blush requires tying to a support and pinching. To prevent the fruits from cracking and maintaining their shape, uniform soil moisture must be maintained. Plants need to be watered every day.

The ripening period of tomatoes is 90–100 days. Tall indeterminate varieties are more suitable for greenhouses, but with proper care they will produce a good harvest in open ground.

The variety is resistant to rot and fungal infections. Requires late blight prevention. Treatment should be done every 10–15 days, stopping 30 days before harvest.

Tomatoes look like small cream fingers, light yellow in color; when ripe, golden and pink stripes appear on the fruits, which makes them very beautiful and unusual. The sweet and sour taste adds piquancy and a special flavor to dishes.

Tomatoes of this variety are beautifully arranged on the bush in the form of large hanging clusters. They are an excellent variety for gourmet dishes and whole-fruit preparations for the winter. Also suitable for drying and drying.

Features of cultivation of the variety

The technology for growing cherry tomatoes is no different from large tomatoes. Tomato Shy blush is cultivated by seedlings. Sowing seeds in special containers is carried out in March.

At the stage of appearance of 2 true leaves, picking is carried out. To do this, use larger containers filled with substrate. Caring for seedlings involves watering and fertilizing with complex preparations. Irrigation is carried out as the soil dries in the afternoon.

Before planting, the seedlings are hardened off and taken outside for 10 days, gradually increasing the time spent outdoors. This event helps the bushes adapt to new conditions.

Strengthened seedlings are transferred to closed ground (greenhouse, greenhouse). They are planted in an open bed when the weather warms up, when the soil warms up to a temperature of +16°C.

The yield of the crop is affected by planting density. It is recommended to place 3-4 bushes per 1 m². As necessary, the stem is formed, the lower leaves are removed up to the first flower cluster.

To prevent cracking of fruits, you need to follow the watering regime, maintain soil moisture, and avoid waterlogging and drying out. It is recommended to harvest the bush periodically, from the moment the first fruits ripen.

The variety requires preventive measures against late blight. Treatment of bushes is carried out every 10-15 days and is stopped 30 days before harvesting the fruits.

Crop care involves a system of agrotechnical measures, which includes loosening the soil, fertilizing with mineral and organic fertilizers during the growing season, and hilling the plants.

History of the variety's creation

This tomato was bred by breeders specifically for harsh climates. In regions with harsh climates, summers are cool and quite short. “Northern Blush” really likes these conditions and the harvest is excellent. In our country, this variety grows well in the Moscow region, in some regions of Siberia, in the Far East and in the Moscow region. The plant can be grown not under film cover.

Important! Do not heat greenhouses under film covering conditions!

Description of the Northern Baby tomato and recommendations for growing the variety

The Northern Baby tomato is a high-yielding variety that was bred for regions with cool climates, such as the Urals and Siberia.

What is a Northern Baby tomato?

Characteristics and description of the variety:

  5. The inflorescences are simple.
  6. This is an ultra-early tomato variety.
  7. The fruit ripening period is 80-95 days.
  8. At the end of June the fruits are already ripe.

Tomato ripening is abundant; in the first 10 days of fruiting, up to 40% of the fruits ripen. The fruits are round in shape. The skin is smooth. The color of the fruit is bright red. Tomatoes weigh on average 45-65 g. Up to 1 kg of fruit is obtained from 1 bush. Up to 3 kg of tomatoes are harvested from 1 m². The variety is resistant to cold and diseases such as late blight, blossom end and root rot.

Fruits can be stored for a long time in boxes in a cool room. At the same time, they do not lose their taste. The skin of the fruit is dense and does not crack. These tomatoes are great for sale. Vegetable growers collect seeds from ripe fruits for planting next season.

How are tomatoes grown?

You can plant seeds for seedlings at the end of March. Before sowing, the seeds need to be soaked. You can carry out this procedure on wet wipes, gauze, and foam sponges. Let's look at how to soak seeds on a foam sponge. Take some sponges and make slits on them. Sprinkle seeds inside.

Then a nutrient solution is made. Add 5 drops of Epin-Extra, which is a growth stimulant, to a glass of water. You need to moisten a sponge in this solution and squeeze it out so that it is slightly damp. Sponges can be placed in 1 row or on top of each other. Then put them in a plastic bag and tie it.

Seeds need to be germinated at a temperature of +25ºC for 1-3 days. Sponges need to be ventilated daily. They should always be damp. After the sprouts appear, they need to be planted in peat pots. First, soil substrate containing nutrients is poured into the pots. The acidity of the soil should be neutral.

The first week the sprouts are not watered. After this, watering is carried out as the soil dries. Do not allow water to get on the stem and leaves. After watering, the soil is loosened, this will save the plants from diseases such as blackleg. The containers are placed in a bright, warm place; if there is not enough light, then use phytolamps. The daylight hours of tomatoes should last 14-16 hours.

The temperature for growing seedlings should be +22...+25ºC during the day, and +12...+14ºC at night. After two leaves appear, the seedlings need to be planted in separate 0.5 liter containers. The soil substrate is poured into them, and before that it is sifted. Make a hole in the soil, use a teaspoon to pull out the sprout with a lump of soil and transplant it into a container. Sprinkle with earth and compact. Then water it with water with the addition of Rooter. After 4 leaves appear, the seedlings are treated with fungicides.

You need to prepare an iron bowl, put paper in it, add sulfur and set it on fire. The smoke that is generated will spread throughout the room and clear it of pests. The sprouts are planted in holes that are arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

Sprinkle with soil, compact and water. Perform soil mulching. Watering is carried out at the root. Water should not stagnate. After watering, the soil needs to be loosened. After 3 weeks, the bushes are fertilized. The second time feeding is carried out at the beginning of the second ovary opening. The third feeding is carried out during the blooming of the third ovary. The fruits of this variety can be eaten fresh, made into salads, or preserved for the winter.

A lot depends on the variety

I started selecting suitable varieties back in winter. I gave preference to early ripening ones, specially designed for open ground ( Little Red Riding Hood and Tamina - German origin, packaged in Belarus), Rumyants of Petersburg F1 , Wind Rose , Cherry Fingers , Bullfinch (all Biotechnika), Tsar Bell (Ukraine, Elitsortna-sinnya).

Undoubtedly, a lot depends on the variety; choosing it correctly is the key to a high yield. But I believe that care is still much more important than the variety itself.

The most important thing is the weather in the garden

Much of the success of growing tomatoes outdoors depends on the weather. This year it turned out to be more favorable than ever. I picked the first red fruits, as planned, in early August. This season we have not observed a large outbreak of late blight; single spots appeared on the leaves only once after a cold rain (and not on all varieties). Therefore, having removed them, I did not begin to collect the fruits en masse, although during this period the harvest on all the clusters I left had already been formed, but I left the tomatoes to ripen on the bushes until the end of summer. At the same time, they were completely healthy, despite the rains. Without covering with film, the plantings were well ventilated, moisture did not remain on the plants, and so the disease did not spread.

Planting and care

Seeds are sown from the last ten days of February and throughout March.

Choose fertile turf; it is better to take garden or park turf. Compost, sand, and rotted sawdust are added to it. Seed the seeds to a depth of 1-2 cm. Sprinkle with a thin layer and lightly compact.

How to care:

  • Irrigate with a spray bottle to maintain moderate humidity.
  • Feeding with “Kemira-universal” or “Krepysh”.
  • Lighting with photodiode phytolamps.
  • Picking when there are 2 true leaves.

Tomatoes for the 2018 season. What has grown in me!

The summer of 2022 in Latvia turned out to be extremely warm, even hot.
This is very rare for our region. I dare say, we have never had so much sun in the summer! It was this season that I was lucky enough to purchase tomato seeds from a collector, because after what I saw at the 2022 tomato exhibition, the burning desire to grow something interesting did not leave me. I have a photo report about that exhibition here. Look. But I won’t bore you, let’s see what has grown. Better to see once than hear a hundred times. Yes, before I forget, I grew tomatoes in a 3x6 m film greenhouse. I filled the planting hole with granulated chicken manure and finely ground eggshells, which I collect all winter. They say that the shells slowly decompose in the soil, so be sure to grind them in a coffee grinder, I do this using an immersion blender. If I have it in stock, I can supplement the planting hole with vermicompost and fishmeal. Vermicompost is a product of the decay of earthworms; we sell it in packages starting from 2 kg. I put a spoonful in the hole; peppers are especially responsive to vermicompost. But we're talking about tomatoes!

I am at the site twice a week. I rent the plot from the state. There is no electricity or running water on the site. My assistants are a dry closet and a water pump. We bring drinking water with us. But no difficulties will stand in the way of my love for the earth, you yourself understand me. Love begins with the very first packet of seeds in your life!

This year I grew a variety called ' Amethyst Jewel '; it turned out to be late, but very productive and beautiful. The taste is delicate, unobtrusive. Slightly sweet, good for those whose stomachs cannot tolerate acid.

So…

'Amethyst Jewel'. Disease resistant, height up to 1.5 m.

It's her. I will grow

The fruits are small and red inside.

I'll show you one of my favorites ' Irish Liquor '. Delicious, juicy, sweet, starchy fruits.

'Irish liqueur' grew no more than 1.2 m for me. Salad. Very beautiful.

It's him :)

When the fruits are ripe, they can be easily distinguished from green ones; they acquire an amber hue and softness. You can see it in the photo. I really liked this variety. I will repeat.

' Pepper ' is an early variety, no more than 80 cm tall. It bears fruit from mid-July.

I had three bushes growing. Since they have good shelf life, I collected them for drying for several days. There is no point in putting less than two baking sheets in the oven.

Fruitful, thick-walled, good for preservation, despite these qualities, it was quite tasty when fresh. I will grow it in order to dry it at home in the oven. This year's results are amazing. Very tasty when dried. I dried it for the first time, but the taste turned out to be, I think immodestly, excellent. If you are curious, I will leave a link to my video recipe on YouTube. Of course, proper sun-dried tomatoes are cooked outdoors under the sun, so why should we deny ourselves the pleasure now?! We only live once, make yourself happy, look for opportunities!

Just out of the oven. If you spread soft cheese on bread and put these tomatoes on top, you'll eat away your mind

One of the varieties that surprised me with its taste is also a short tomato ' Dark Galaxy ' - 1.5 m. The taste is sweet with an interesting aftertaste. The kids liked it. I try to grow my tomatoes with two stems. But, coming to the dacha no more than twice a week, it’s difficult to keep track. I will repeat this variety.

'Dark Galaxy' has not only a mysterious taste, but also an unusual coloring of the fruit. The fruits seem to be splashed with gold. This is what he looked like on the bushes. Productivity is average. But I don't grow tomatoes for sale. The taste of the fruit attracts me more than the yield:) And beauty! I walk into the greenhouse and am delighted! It's him. My tomatoes were not large, but they could be larger. This is ' Chocolate marmalade ' - a very productive and beautiful variety. It's him. But I don’t plan to grow it this season.

It is quite watery, I would say tasteless, but I would be lying. There are notes of some spice in it. The manufacturer wrote in the description “with the taste of physalis.” Something vague. I'll abstain in general. But I'll introduce you. It's interesting how beautiful tomatoes can be! 'Chocolate marmalade'. Medium sized fruits This is ' Amber honey '. I got a tomato about 1 m high. It has stunningly beautiful yellow-orange fruits that can grow quite large. Didn't crack.

The first fruits are up to 375 g. But on average 200 g. This is the second bush

I try to grow unfamiliar varieties in two bushes, so as not to draw the wrong conclusions. The same variety can behave differently in different corners of the greenhouse. Experienced gardeners say that even favorite varieties can behave differently from year to year.

Despite the name, it only has color and richness from honey.

The tomato itself turned out sour. But you know, not cloyingly sour, but richly sour. In a fresh salad it is very harmonious with other varieties. The sauce from it turns out to be a gorgeous color, you can add sweet pepper to it and you get the most beautiful lecho. The fruits are quite dense, not loose. Like, for example, the 'Persimmon' variety. I can't find any photos of 'Persimmon'. But believe me, the variety is also worthy.

In the photo on the left is 'Amber Honey', on the right is 'Persimmon' in cross-section. Both tomatoes are yellow-fruited, but 'Persimmon' is distinguished by its sweet taste, juicy, fleshy fruit and bright orange, sometimes reddish core when cut. Top center green - 'Irish Liqueur', lower middle - 'Chocolate Marmalade', bottom - 'Blush' or 'Bashful Blush'.

' Bashful blush ' is a mysterious tomato. Its pulp has an amazing taste. Like a sweet gooseberry, but with a repulsive hard wall. By the way, this also happens with gooseberries. And all this with extraordinary beauty. It is recommended to be used in conservation. 'Bashful Blush' is tall. Fruitful, truss tomato, but the fruits are small, 25-35 g.

'Bashful blush' at the beginning of summer

By the way, in the photo you see the jars in which my seedlings grew. These are sour cream jars of 400 and 500 ml. I collect them in winter. The variety is written on each jar, and they stand next to the bushes all summer, so as not to do extra work and not have to sign it again. They don't bother me. And the most attentive noticed the mown grass in the beds. If possible, I'll add it. The earth should not be bare. This is an unusually tasty tomato ' Lover's Lunch '. Mid-season, 1.5-1.7 m high. Large juicy fruits. Weight 100-200 g, as written by the collector, but mine grew larger.

There were few fruits, but they were all amazing. I will grow it. And try it, maybe you will be more productive. The taste is incomparable and that decides everything!.. Unless, of course, you like sweet tomatoes.

Here he is

333 grams

This is the ' Pink Zebra ' variety. Up to 1.7 m. I had the latest one. But also very sweet. The eldest daughter ate like apples. She said that you shouldn’t spoil the salad :) Fruitful.

On the cut

By the end of the season it started to crack. Although this is a trifle. The variety is salad, sugary, tasty. There were 2 bushes growing.

The tomatoes are quite large, juicy and heavy. Disease-resistant. They stood with healthy foliage until the end of the season. What’s strange is that it seemed to me that they seemed to be bleached by the sun.

I also grew this mysterious variety ' Woolly Blue Wine ' . Two bushes.

Hairy fruits on a hairy bush. Apart from its beauty, there is nothing more to say. I grew a completely tasteless tomato. I definitely won’t plant him. Productivity is average, but closer to good. Disease resistant. The bush is taller than 1.5 m.

In the photo he and the 'Amethyst Jewel'. Do you see the difference? On a bush

One of my favorites was also a cherry tomato, up to 2 m tall - ' Gardeners Delight ' or ' Gardener's Delight '. These were sweet small fruits. Children's favorite tomato. At the beginning of the growing season it grew with stunningly beautiful clusters.

'Gardener's Delight'

But by the end of the season he grew as he wanted. Fruitful. I will definitely repeat it. These seeds were given to me as a gift. Non-collectible variety.

I also planted the variety ' Axanta '. One of the most productive bushes looked like this at the end of July.

This is an early, very productive tomato. Thanks to him, as well as the early variety 'Promyk', we started eating tomatoes in mid-July.

I also grew a stunningly beautiful tomato ' Alice's Dream ', but for some reason I was not pleased with the taste, maybe it didn’t work out.

The tomato is mid-season, the fruits are large and fleshy. If you grew it, please share your experience and whether I should repeat it.

'Alice's Dream' - at the end of the growing season, in direct sunlight, it began to melt for me. And the fruits didn’t look so beautiful anymore. No photo, but the sight is quite strange

From store-bought dark tomato seeds I got fruits like these, they didn’t turn out to be large or ribbed, most likely it’s a re-cultivation. But it’s also a tasty variety, with good yield.

This is the ' Melon ' variety. Very tasty tomatoes. On the first bunch two large tomatoes grew like this. The bush is no higher than 1.2 m. The taste is excellent. I will repeat this season. Further, the fruits were smaller, but the taste was better.

And on the balcony, among the flowers, I tried to grow a dwarf tomato. Managed

Perhaps you will find something interesting for yourself. It would probably not be amiss to mention that I sowed the tomatoes in several stages: tall on March 17, medium on March 20 and 27, dwarf on April 4. Transplanted into the greenhouse on May 10th. Almost all the tomatoes ripened on the bush. In October we just had to harvest some of the green varieties.

I want summer!

I tried the first tomato from the bush and fell in love! Small, 20g, yellow tomatoes with red stripes melt in your mouth. The consistency of cherry, but much sweeter and more tender. The skin is a little tough, like many cherry tomatoes, but the taste is amazing! I recommend growing in 3-4 trunks, removing all unnecessary shoots so that the tomatoes are well lit and warmed by the sun. The peculiarity is that the sweet ones are only ripened on the bush; those that were ripened in a box were not so tasty. Good both fresh and for jars. But I prefer drying - perfect boats. There are a lot of fruits, we ate from 5 bushes and withered a little.

  • Nellie

Extraordinarily beautiful. The harvest is small, 1.3 kg per bush. Height 1.4 m. Hilyachok. In the first bunches it was thin-skinned and sweet, in the last ones the skin became dense and the taste was ordinary. I'll try from another source, they promised better results

  • Hope

Yes, this is a universal purpose variety. Very handsome. We have been planting for 2 years and will continue to do so. In rainy summers it was larger, had less bright stripes, and was less sweet. However, like all tomatoes, they reacted to the rainy summer of 2016.

  • Elena Koval

1.3m/25g, mid-early cream, yellow-orange with red streaks, cluster of 6 fruits.

The taste is juicy, harmonious, sweetish.

  • Nika

I noticed that the taste is sweeter the more sun there is and the color changes slightly depending on this. Not the sweetest cherry, but definitely the most beautiful!
