Description and characteristics of Lilac Fog grapes

When creating Lilac Fog, the famous breeder Nikolai Vishnevetsky crossed several varieties. Based on Kesha 1, Cherry and Rizomat. The result is a crop that is disease-resistant and has a raspberry aftertaste.

The fruit ripening period is about 4 months. The timing depends on regional weather conditions. In the south, harvest starts earlier.

Lilac mist grape bushes reach 4 meters in height. Other characteristics of the variety:

  1. The robust vine is covered with large dark green leaves.
  2. The clusters have a conical shape and weigh from 700 grams to 1 kilogram.
  3. Ripe berries are pink with a lilac tint.
  4. The weight of the fruit is 20-40 grams. The pulp is juicy, there are few seeds.

The sweet, but not cloying taste attracts winemakers. Lilac mist is often used to produce various desserts and drinks.

Dolinsky Canteen

One of the most common and in demand hybrids, obtained as a result of high-quality crossing of Arcadia and Kesh1, is known to gardeners for its high growth vigor, bisexuality of the bush, and early period of full ripening (120-125 days). The vine is frost-resistant and can easily withstand temperatures down to -23. Large, light-colored berries are evenly distributed on the bunch, the clusters are not prone to peas, and their weight can be 500-600 grams. The harvest does not lose its excellent taste, can be stored on the branches for a relatively long time, is easily transported, and is characterized by high resistance to gray rot and fungi. The berries do not crack, the flesh is dense, juicy, with a pleasant taste.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The plant is common among winegrowers in Ukraine and Russia. The variety has a set of positive qualities. For the unusual raspberry taste of the berries, the culture was even awarded a special international prize at a competition in Yalta.

Advantages and disadvantages

Long shelf life

Possibility of transporting the harvested crop to regions located at a considerable distance from the place of cultivation

Low temperature tolerance (down to minus 20 °C)

Immunity to common diseases

Possibility of obtaining high yields

The need for regular pruning

With improper care, peas begin to appear

When infected with root rot, the plant is rejected

Minor deficiencies of the variety can be corrected by following agrotechnical care recommendations.

Wild Rose

Vishnevetsky’s not the most successful hybrid was obtained by combining Demeter and Richelieu, and is still being studied and improved. But now we can say with confidence that the vine is medium-sized, bisexual, has an average period of full ripening, approximately 135-150 days, and is highly resistant to common hybrid diseases. On the clusters, loose and quite large, large black fruits with a slight matte haze are evenly located. Like all species bred by Nikolai Pavlovich, the crop is easily transported and stored.

Rules for growing a plant

The rooting of grape shoots on the site depends on the quality of the planting material.

Selection of seedlings

Experienced winegrowers never purchase seedlings from unknown sellers. For seedlings, it is recommended to contact farms engaged in mass cultivation of the crop.

Ask a Question

The selected cuttings should be carefully examined to exclude the acquisition of vines with signs of rot or other diseases. Choose a plant with a developed root system.

Preference is given to seedlings harvested in the fall and overwintered in a special nursery. Such shoots will quickly take root in new conditions and begin to grow.

Landing

For planting, choose an area in the southern or western part of the garden. The vineyard is placed in an open place, without trees shading the sunlight.

The best time to place seedlings in the ground is spring. In order for the plant to take root on the site:

  1. Work begins only when stable warm weather sets in. The earth at a depth of 30 centimeters should warm up to 10 °C.
  2. The cuttings are left in water for a day.
  3. Dig a hole with a diameter of 80 centimeters and the same depth.
  4. Potassium fertilizers and superphosphate are poured into the bottom of the hole and mixed with the soil.
  5. The seedling is placed in a hole and covered with earth. The plant is watered abundantly.

Autumn planting of grapes is carried out before the onset of the first cold weather, so that the shoots acclimatize. For the winter, immature sprouts are insulated with sawdust or dry branches.

Say goodbye

Having crossed Kesha1 and Kishmish Radiant, the breeder received a new hybrid, which he named Promin. A vigorous vine with bisexual flowers yields clusters weighing 700-800 grams. Resistance to fungi and frost are the undoubted advantages of the new form. The dark red large berries on the cluster not only have a pleasant nutmeg aroma. The taste qualities of the hybrid are known to connoisseurs; the juicy, dense pulp will not leave gourmets indifferent.

Further care

The Lilac Fog grape variety does not require special conditions for development. It is important to carry out the necessary agrotechnical measures in a timely manner.

Watering the crop

The plant needs regular watering. Up to 30 liters of water are added to each bush. The soil is irrigated as it dries. To ensure access of oxygen and beneficial microelements to the root system, the soil is regularly loosened. The procedure is carried out after each session of moistening the plot of land under the vineyard. Don't forget to weed.

Fertilizer application

Lilac mist grapes must be regularly maintained with the help of mineral and organic complexes:

  1. Before flowering, the plant is treated with a solution, which is prepared by adding 30 grams of potassium nitrate to 10 liters of water.
  2. During the fruiting period, grapes are fed with ammonium nitrate. The recommended dosage is 50 grams of the drug per 10 liters of liquid.
  3. In autumn, the soil is enriched with humus or peat is added.

Trimming

Grape yield depends on timely pruning of the vine. In spring, carefully remove damaged or dried shoots. Unfruitful areas are uprooted.

In summer, it is recommended to inspect the bushes at least once a week and cut off dry branches. The vine is pinched and excess shoots are removed.

Black cherry

A relatively “young” hybrid was obtained by pollinating Zos1 and using the varieties Kuban, Richelieu, Nadezhda AZOS and Valek. The result was an extremely early ripening period, bisexual flowering at the very beginning of summer and large clusters of medium looseness, strewn with large black berries with a characteristic cherry flavor. Information about the wintering of the bush and its resistance to pests and diseases is currently not enough for clear conclusions, but with a high degree of probability the hybrid form will have all the qualities that N.P. Vishnevetsky usually endows his varieties with.

Resistance to pests and diseases

Lilac Mist is resistant to most ailments. But some diseases require preventive measures:

  1. Fruit rot is combated with chemicals. “Oxychom” or “Zircon” are effective. The plant is sprayed every 10 days.
  2. Olive spot is removed with colloidal salt. Treatment is carried out once a week.
  3. The invasion of the codling moth is stopped using a manganese solution. This remedy is used once a decade.

The greatest danger to grapes is root rot, treatment for which has not yet been developed. Therefore, the diseased plant must be uprooted.

Gift to Irina

These red marmalade grapes were obtained by selecting the varieties Glasha, Kesha1 and Elegant Superranniy. As a result, a vine with medium vigor and bisexual flowers begins to produce crops after just 125 days.

Large and large clusters are strewn with berries that are not subject to cracking and peas, each of which individually weighs up to 20 grams. The fleshy pulp melts in the mouth; the harmonious, pleasant taste combined with a marmalade consistency has brought this hybrid considerable popularity.

Like other forms bred by Vishnevetsky, “Gift to Irina” is not affected by fungi, is not affected by gray mold, and is easily transported.

Harvest and storage

The variety has good keeping quality and transportability. It is recommended to store Lilac Mist in rooms with good ventilation. It is important to maintain temperature conditions. The optimal range is considered to be from minus 2 to plus 8 °C. Choose a dark place. Light negatively affects the sweetness of fruits, triggering the processes of sugar destruction.

The fruits are well preserved in boxes with paper or clean sawdust spread on the bottom. Before planting, the bunches are checked and spoiled berries are removed.

The Lilac Mist grape takes root well in different climates. When choosing high-quality seedlings and observing agrotechnical conditions, the first harvest of berries is harvested after 3 years.

Dashunya

A form with a fairly early period of full ripening, the harvest can be harvested already on the 115th day. Kesha1, Kishmish Radiant, Rizamat were used for breeding and selection. The hybrid is distinguished by a female type of flowers and increased vigor, which is important when growing it in areas of dry and hard soils.

More than 5 kg of fleshy berries with a pleasant nutmeg and high taste are evenly distributed on a medium-density conical bunch.

The weight of each of them exceeds 10 grams, and even during periods of excess moisture there will be no cracks or damage from gray rot. Dashuni is characterized by high resistance to mildew and oidium, high-quality yield and excellent transportability.
