    How does “Beetle Eater, SK” fight beetles?

    The description of the “Beetle Eater” in the advertising block sounds tempting. It seems that this is exactly the drug for the Colorado potato beetle that really works. Whether this is true or not, only practice will show.

    1. Beetle eater is a complex drug. Contains a combination of three chemicals. They act differently, which allows minimizing the factor of resistance (immunity, resistance to the drug). You've probably heard about the ability of pests to get used to toxic substances if they are used regularly? That is why, on an industrial scale, insects are most often combated with tank mixtures. If pests are resistant to one of the components, the other will work. The beetle eater, in fact, is such a tank mixture, only for summer residents.

    2. So, the drug contains three components that act differently. The first concentrates on the surface of the plants and has an immediate effect: insects die within an hour after spraying. The second compound is absorbed by the leaves and acts internally, harming the larvae when they eat the leaves. This increases plant immunity and productivity. The third substance has a prolonged effect: it is firmly absorbed by plants and provides long-term protection.

    3. The drug allows you to destroy pests in 24 hours, at any temperature.

    4. At recommended levels, it is not toxic to plants and humans, but for the Colorado potato beetle it is a real poison!

    Compound

    In our opinion, the manufacturer of the drug took very good care of informing customers regarding the use of the new product. Among other things, on the site we found leaflets that introduce basic information and help you decide whether this drug will be useful for a gardener or not.

    • Alpha-cypermethrin,
    • Imidacloprid,
    • Clothianidin.

    So, it contains three components, each of which acts in a special way and complements each other.

    Features of the application: “Question and answer”

    Who is the “Beetle Eater” fighting?

    Mechanism of action of "Zhukoed, SK"

    In terms of action, “Beetle Eater” is an insecticide, in terms of penetration method it is a contact-intestinal pesticide, and in terms of the nature of action it is a systemic pesticide.

    Neonicotinoids have high biological activity, are well accumulated by receptors found in insects, block the transmission of nerve impulses, as a result of which they die from nervous overexcitation. Pyrethroids penetrate the integument of insects, causing rapid destruction, and affect the nervous system of insects, causing paralysis and death.

    a) Alpha-cypermethrin provides a contact effect, acts instantly (pests stop feeding within 1 hour after treatment and die)

    b) Imidacloprid provides a systemic effect, is quickly absorbed by the leaves and redistributed throughout the vascular system throughout the plant. In addition, imidacloprid provides anti-stress resistance (drought and other unfavorable conditions)

    c) Clothianidin provides distribution and long-lasting protection.

    The duration of the protective effect is 15–20 days.

    The speed of the initial impact is that the pest’s feeding activity ceases within an hour after treatment, and death occurs within 24 hours.

    Protection from poison

    In order not to be poisoned by the substances that form the basis of the product used to kill the Colorado potato beetle, you must not ignore safety precautions when storing the drug, during the preparation of the solution, and when processing the beds.

    Before diluting the composition, you must put on gloves and rubber boots and protect your respiratory tract with a respirator. You should start work when there are no pets or children nearby, so as not to harm their health.

    During spraying, you should not drink, have a snack, or light a cigarette. It is not known whether the drug can be combined with other poisons, so it is better not to mix such drugs. After completing work, be sure to take a shower.

    Reviews from farmers and summer residents about the Beetle Beetle are mixed. In small areas, it was possible to get rid of the arthropod striped insect in one spraying procedure. In the fields, after treatment with this insecticide, the pests also died, but after a while they reappeared. The beetles fly long distances, overwinter deep in the ground, where they crawl in June after breeding. People have been fighting them unsuccessfully for almost 70 years.

    Treating leaves and stems with a beetle eater paralyzes insects . This drug effectively fights the pest. But adult individuals have a good sense of smell; sensing the attractive smell of their favorite crop, they fly over to feast on the leaves. Even with the complete destruction of Colorado potato beetles in the garden, it is not a fact that they will not appear next year.

    Precautionary measures

    The composition of the Beetle is dangerous for the human body, as it can cause an allergic reaction or poisoning. After treatment, unpleasant symptoms may occur: headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, dizziness. To prevent the negative effects of the insecticide, you need to follow basic safety precautions. It consists of simple steps:

    • Be sure to use protective clothing that completely covers parts of the body. Durable rubber gloves, a panoramic mask or goggles, a respirator, and overalls made of thick waterproof fabric will provide reliable protection from the solution during work;
    • the procedure is carried out in the morning or evening, when the sun is less active;
    • Do not be distracted while spraying the solution. Smoking, eating, drinking drinks is prohibited;
    • Children, pregnant women, and pets should not be allowed in the work area;
    • At the end of the treatment, clothes are removed, washed, and shoes are washed. The gardener needs to take a shower, wash his nose and gargle.

    Under no circumstances should you use several insecticides on a site or mix them with each other during treatment. Otherwise, crop loss may occur.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    The advantages of using the three-component insecticide “Zhukoed, SK” include :

    • a unique combination of three active ingredients, which eliminates resistance and ensures maximum effectiveness;
    • high speed of initial impact;
    • one-time treatment ensuring the destruction of the entire pest population;
    • impact even on individuals resistant to one of the components;
    • lack of dependence on weather factors and work in a wide temperature range;
    • system for protecting the drug from counterfeiting.

    Among the disadvantages is a high class of danger for bees and other pollinators.

    Manufacturers and drugs

    The insecticide Zhukoed was developed in the Russian Federation by ZAO Firma Avgust (avgust crop protection). Produced in Russia and Belarus under the direct control of the manufacturer. In terms of basic properties, both commercial formations are equivalent, but the Russian Zhukoed is designed primarily for treating small areas with a hand sprayer of approx. up to 10-12 acres under potatoes. Belarus, as is known, is the “mother of potatoes”. A lot of potatoes are planted there, and therefore the Belarusian Beetle is intended for owners who use a backpack sprayer on areas of up to several hectares. As a result, the regulations for the use of Russian and Belarusian drugs are somewhat different (see below), but any of them can be used according to the area. size - Russian in small areas anywhere, and Belarusian in larger plantings anywhere.

    Biological methods

    If there are guinea fowl on the farm, they are released into the potato field every day - the number of larvae will noticeably decrease.

    To repel pests, between potato plantings, plants are sown that produce phytoncides, which are a repellent for the beetle: nasturtium, coriander, marigold, calendula, borage, matthiola. They will not scare away all the beetles, but their number will decrease.

    Biological products also show high efficiency. They are safe for humans and beneficial insects. Gardeners most often use:

    1. “Bitoxibacillin” is an intestinal insecticide, effective against beetle larvae of 1-3 instars, waiting period is 5 days;
    2. “Actofit”, “Fitoverm” - drugs based on avermectins, have a wide spectrum of action, both intestinal and contact, are effective in hot weather, waiting period is 3 days;
    3. “Boverin”, “Mikorad Insecto” - preparations based on the Boveria mushroom, are effective at a temperature of 24-26 degrees, treatments are carried out in the evening, and have no waiting period;
    4. “Ecokiller” - a product created on the basis of diatomaceous earth, its smallest particles dehydrate insects and they die, the drug is absolutely safe, strengthens the immunity of plants and increases their productivity, is used only in dry weather;
    5. “Nemabakt”, “Antonem-F”, “Biodan” - drugs based on entomopathogenic nematodes, have an intestinal effect, effectiveness against the Colorado potato beetle is 98%, the protective effect lasts 2 years.

    All these agents do not accumulate in the soil and in plants.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Each drug has advantages and disadvantages. If we describe the advantages of the Beetle Eater, we can note:

    • Harmless to the plantings themselves, people, animals,
    • Ensuring the complete disappearance of pests, regardless of their stage of development,
    • The drug does not lose its properties when exposed to environmental factors,
    • Even with a single use, efficiency and achievement of the desired result are ensured,
    • Due to the fact that the composition is three-component, the ability of Colorado potato beetles to become addicted will not protect them,
    • Affordable price, high quality and high level of cost efficiency,
    • The death of pests occurs after 24 hours.

    Taking into account the shortcomings, it is worth mentioning:

    • The toxicity of the drug to bees – poses a danger for 46 days after treatment.
