- Caring for daffodils in autumn
Daffodils are one of the most unpretentious spring flowers. They are called plants for the lazy - they are resistant to disease, frost-resistant, undemanding to the composition of the soil, its level of humidity, or lighting. And this despite the fact that they are beautiful, and some even have a subtle honey aroma. That is why it is rare for a garden to be complete without these beautiful spring flowers. Daffodils reproduce simply and quickly by babies - young bulbs that are separated from the mother bulb.
Description and characteristics of daffodils
Daffodils are bulbous flowers of the Amaryllis family. Daffodils bloom in April and May. Daffodils have been bred with simple and double flower forms consisting of six petals. A protrusion and a crown emerge from the petal, in which a column with stamens is formed.
In total there are more than twelve thousand varieties of daffodils. They are divided into the following categories:
- Tubular daffodils have a white or yellow color. One flower is formed on the peduncle, in the center of which there is a tube equal in length to the petals.
- Daffodils are large-crowned , with white, yellow or two-color buds. The length of the cup-shaped crown of such a flower is 1/3 of the length of the petal.
- Daffodils are small-crowned , with a crown length less than 1/3 of a petal and a similar color.
- Daffodils are double, white, yellow or two colors, with a perianth of more than six parts.
- Daffodils triandrous , growing singly or in inflorescences of several flowers. The cup-shaped crown is approximately half the length of the petal.
- Daffodils are cyclamen-shaped , having petals curved back. The crown of such a single daffodil is half the size of a petal or slightly shorter.
- Jonquil daffodils bloom in groups of 2-6 flowers, the cup-shaped crown is half the length of a petal or slightly shorter.
- Daffodils tacetata grow up to twenty flowers on a peduncle. They can be yellow, white, with yellow or orange crowns.
