Description of the tomato variety Werner f1, its characteristics and cultivation

Description of the variety

The Verochka tomato was bred by breeders in order to obtain an early and at the same time tasty tomato.
The work was completed successfully, and soon the hybrid appeared on the plots. The plant looks like this:

  1. The bush is low - 50-60 cm.
  2. The stem is strong, the internodes are short.
  3. The leaves are rich green, the usual shape for the crop.
  4. The tomato forms the first fruit cluster above the 6th leaf. The next step goes through 1 node.
  5. Dense brushes, about 20 cm long, are collected from 5-6 tomatoes.
  6. The fruits are round, smooth, with ribs barely visible at the stalk, which are difficult to see in the photo. Average weight 100 g.
  7. The skin is dense, shiny, and turns red in mature units.
  8. The pulp is tender, juicy, and has a sweetish taste.
  9. The cross-section shows that in the chambers, of which there are usually 4-5 pieces, a small number of seeds are formed.

Description of tomato variety Cornabel

Here you can read the recommendations of experienced gardeners on how to grow tomatoes in open ground.

  • In hot, dry weather, loosening helps reduce the evaporation of moisture from the soil, and in rainy and cold weather it ensures better gas exchange between air and soil, and reduces the possibility of plants becoming infected with fungal diseases.
  • Irregular watering of plants in hot summers often leads to blossom end rot.
  • Tall varieties are grown with one stem, and in favorable weather - with two. In this case, the second stem is the stepson - a shoot under the first flower cluster. All other shoots are removed.
  • The shoots are broken out, but under no circumstances are they pulled out, since wounds form on the plant, where fungal infection easily gets into. If the side shoots are large, it is better to remove them with a sharp knife or scissors, leaving a stump 1 cm long, which will not allow a new shoot to form.
  • Low-growing, early-ripening varieties can be grown without shaping; they do not need to be pinched and tied to stakes. The lower aging leaves are trimmed in a timely manner.
  • Tall varieties and hybrids are planted according to the scheme 70x70 cm, medium-growing ones - 60x60 cm and 50x50 cm, low-growing ones - 50x40 cm and 50x30 cm.
  • The shorter the growing season of a variety or hybrid, the fewer stepsons are left and the denser the plants can be planted.
  • Tall varieties are not very sensitive to lack of moisture, while low-growing varieties do not tolerate dryness well.
  • Tomato water needs are highest during the flowering phase, ovary formation and intensive fruit weight gain. Excess water is no less harmful, which often leads to yellowing of leaves and root rot.
  • Tomato is sensitive to chlorides, so do not fertilize the soil with potassium chloride. It is better to use potassium sulfate or wood ash.
  • Poor or absent fruit set is a plant’s reaction to temperatures that are too low or too high.
  • The reason for the fall of ovaries and flowers may be excess nitrogen in the absence of phosphorus and potassium or boron and manganese. This happens more often in low light conditions.
  • When alternating plantings of tomatoes and white cabbage, the latter will have several times fewer leaf-eating pests.

As you can see, growing good tomatoes is not easy, but for a real gardener nothing is impossible!

In recent years, unfortunately, there are more and more people whose bodies do not accept red tomatoes due to an allergy to the fruits of this color. But tomatoes are not only tasty, but also very healthy vegetables. To solve this problem, varieties of yellow tomatoes have been grown.

Among the varieties and hybrids of yellow-fruited tomatoes there are low-growing (determinant) and tall-growing (indeterminate); early, middle and late ripening; suitable for growing in open ground, temporary film shelters, glazed heated greenhouses.

  • Tobacco mosaic virus.
  • Alternaria blight.
  • Fusarium.
  • Verticillium.
  • Black bacterial spot.

Most often, Vernost tomatoes are affected by powdery mildew, late blight, Colorado potato beetle, armyworm, mole cricket, whitefly, thrips, and nematodes. To combat diseases, the drugs Boverin, Metarizin, Entotsid, Actofit are used. Pests can be destroyed with the help of Phytodoctor, Trichodermin, Baikal, Fitosporin-M.

When using the listed drugs, you must strictly adhere to the dosages recommended by the manufacturer. Treatment with insecticides is carried out in the evening or morning in dry, windless weather.

Disease-resistant tomato varieties for open ground

Tomato Verochka F1 is resistant to blossom end rot and fruit cracking.

Resistance to diseases is noted (that is, the damage caused by the disease is very small):

  • Late blight.
  • Mosaic.
  • Alternaria blight.

Pests:

  • Colorado beetle.
  • Aphid.
  • Mite.
  • Slugs

The fight against the Colorado potato beetle involves collecting beetles and larvae, and placing baits against slugs. Insecticides are used.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Tomatoes have an excellent appearance - the fruits are red, almost the same size, transport well, and do not crack.

The bushes are resistant to diseases, lack of light and heat, which makes it possible to grow them in cold regions. Plants tolerate bad weather well.

No disadvantages were found in the variety, except that you need to buy seeds every year, since they are hybrid.

The only drawback of this variety is the inconvenience of pickling in jars due to its large size. Benefits include:

  • Early ripeness.
  • Excellent taste.
  • Excellent keeping quality and transportability.
  • Resistance to many diseases.
  • High yield.
  • Compact bushes.

What are buyers saying?

According to reviews from customers who have already tried to grow Werner tomatoes, the bushes are literally covered with large fruits. And the description of taste qualities in fact does not differ from what advertisers say.

The tomatoes do not crack, the taste remains rich and juicy. Although the fruits ripen quite quickly, if necessary, they ripen in a cut state in a couple of days without any extra effort. This variety is used both raw and for preparing salads, sauces and other dishes.

Features of cultivation and care in open ground and in a greenhouse

The Siberian early ripening tomato should be grown using the seedling method. Cultivation of seedlings at home takes 55-60 days. Let's take a closer look at the agricultural technology of seedlings, planting them in a permanent place, and care features.

Preparation of seed material

Better yields and stable immunity of young individuals can be achieved through preliminary seed preparation. The procedure includes three points:

  1. Disinfection with a solution of fungicide or potassium permanganate (1%) for 20-30 minutes, followed by rinsing with clean water.
  2. Soaking for a day to awaken the embryo involves placing tomato grains on a piece of damp cloth, which is placed in a plastic bag.
  3. To strengthen the seedlings, the seed should be hardened. Place the saucer in the refrigerator overnight and keep it at 25⁰C during the day. Such manipulations are performed until sprouts appear (2-3 days).

Containers and soil for seedlings

The tomato bush has a fibrous type of root system and can easily and painlessly tolerate picking. You can grow seedlings in any container - a common box, peat tablets, individual cups, cassettes. The main thing is that the container has several holes on the bottom to drain excess liquid.

A universal soil mixture with a loose structure and a pH level of no higher than 6.5 (slightly acidic) is suitable for cultivating seedlings. When making your own substrate, equal parts of peat, sand, garden soil and humus are combined.

Attention! Don’t forget about heat treatment of garden soil

How and when to sow seeds

The timing of sowing depends on the expected growing conditions. If the seedlings move to the greenhouse at the end of the seedling period, sowing is carried out at the end of March. When transplanting plants into a garden bed, sowing work is shifted to the first half of April. Seeds are sown in grooves at least 10 mm deep. The step between grains is 2-3 cm, between grooves - 4-5 cm. Cover the grooves with soil, and arrange a transparent cover (glass, film) on the seedling container. After 3-5 days at a temperature of 22-25⁰C, the first shoots will appear.

Seedling care

The cover from the container is gradually removed when all the seedlings appear above the soil surface. For 4-5 days, the box is placed in cool conditions (15⁰C) so that the tomatoes do not stretch. During the day, the container is kept under bright diffuse lighting or a phytolamp at a temperature of 22-25⁰C, and at night the background is reduced to 15-16⁰C.

Remember! Cyclic hardening will have a beneficial effect on the development of the seedling, strengthen the immune system, and prepare it for natural conditions.

At the initial stage of cultivation, seedlings are provided with abundant irrigation, preventing waterlogging and drying out of the soil. Gradually increase the intervals between waterings. If seedlings grow in a common container, after developing 2-3 true leaves, they should be planted into a separate container with a volume of 500-700 ml. During picking, it is recommended to pinch the central root to stimulate the growth of lateral branches.

Fertilizing with a complete mineral complex is applied three times - 10 days after transshipment, 2 weeks later, 10-14 days before transplanting to a permanent place.

Features of cultivation

Seeds for seedlings begin to be planted in late March - early April. You will first need to carry out a disinfection procedure. To do this, the seeds must be placed in a weak manganese solution for 10–15 minutes, after which they can be planted in specially prepared containers with soil to a depth of 2–3 cm.

Planting at a permanent place is carried out on the 55th – 70th day of disembarkation. As a rule, this is done as soon as the night frosts have passed. It is recommended to plant 3 – 5 plants per 1 m2.

Before the second picking, the seedlings must begin to be hardened. To do this, it is taken out into the open air in warm weather.

Characteristics and description of the tomato variety Bystrenok, its yieldRead

The peculiarities of growing vegetables include high-quality and regular care. These are the following points:

  1. Systematic watering of plants with water at room temperature (about 22 - 25 ° C);
  2. Feeding bushes with organic and mineral fertilizers. When picking, you can use nitrophoska.
  3. Loosening the soil. Thanks to this, the root system is provided with the necessary amount of oxygen.
  4. Weeding from excess weeds.
  5. Mandatory tying of bushes. Due to the height of the stem, tomatoes must be provided with high-quality support. To do this, use gratings, pegs or ribbons.

Water tomatoes only with warm water!

Landing rules

Tomato seeds are sown in containers for growing seedlings no earlier than March. Before sowing, seeds must be treated with special means and then disinfected. For this purpose, a weak solution of manganese is used. The seeds are dipped in a slightly warm liquid for a quarter of an hour, and then placed in a solution of Epin for 12 hours, having previously studied its description. Seeds prepared in this way are planted in containers with soil.

Description and characteristics of the tomato variety Bugai pink and redRead

Temperature is of no small importance when growing seedlings:

  1. Containers with planted seeds are left in a room with a temperature of +23–24 ⁰С.
  2. After germination, the container with the plants is brought into a room where the temperature is from +20 to +23 degrees.

At this time, the plant will benefit from diffused sunlight. Direct rays can burn tender shoots.

Advantages and disadvantages

Tomato Verochka F1 has the following positive features:

  • High yield because from one bush you can remove about 5 kg of fruit.
  • The variety can be grown in greenhouses, gardens and open beds. Moreover, in the first case, fruiting will occur earlier, and in the second, the tomatoes will be sweeter.
  • Tomatoes have strong immunity to fungal diseases.
  • The tomato tolerates heat, which is very valuable in the southern regions.
  • Racks and frost. In sheltered soil, it may grow successfully even in cool areas.
  • Tomatoes have good keeping quality and tolerate transportation well.
  • Since they have a great taste, they are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for storing for the winter in the form of canned food and pickles.

But gardeners do not note any particular shortcomings.

Important nuances of agricultural technology

Pink Bush F1 tomatoes are not considered particularly difficult to care for. All agricultural techniques are, in principle, standard for this crop. The absence of the need to engage in the formation of bushes will significantly save the gardener’s time.

Pink Bush F1, cultivated in a greenhouse, needs to be watered once every 2-3 days, and even daily in extreme heat. If you don't have this option, mulch the soil. This will help retain moisture. For irrigation use only warm water.

Pink Bush F1 tomatoes do not like high air humidity; When growing in a greenhouse, it must be regularly ventilated

Characteristics and description of the variety

The Vesna hybrid was created in the Altai Territory, a region with a sharply continental climate, where even in summer the temperature difference per day can be 25 degrees. The result of the work of local breeders is an indeterminate variety of tomatoes for greenhouses, high-yielding and with a short ripening period (vegetation period - 90-100 days).

Characteristics and description of the Spring tomato variety:

  • medium-sized bushes, 40-60 cm tall;
  • The trunk of the plants is strong, but staking is necessary;
  • shoot formation is weak, foliage is average;
  • leaves are large, dark green in color;
  • the plant forms 5-6 fruit clusters with 4-6 fruits in each.

According to the experience of gardeners, with the correct agricultural technology, the Vesna tomato can be successfully cultivated in open beds.

Fruit

Tomatoes are round in shape, slightly ribbed near the stem. Ripe fruits acquire a rich red color (the shape of the fruit and color are clearly visible in the photo). At the stage of technical ripeness, they are light green, with a darker spot at the base.

They are approximately the same in weight - 170-220 g. The skin is smooth, resistant to cracking. The pulp is fleshy and juicy. Inside the berry there are 4 chambers with a small number of seeds. Can be removed from bushes at the stage of technical maturity for ripening at home.

Taste qualities

The fruits exhibit their best taste when fresh - it is rich, sweetish with a slight sourness. The pulp is juicy, but not watery.

Productivity

One of the important advantages of the hybrid is its high yield, which does not depend on weather conditions.

To date, the maximum harvest per square meter of planting area has been recorded - 17 kg. On average, 6-7 kg of tomato fruits are harvested from a bush in greenhouse conditions with proper agricultural technology (timely application of fertilizers and regular watering).

Usage

Vesna tomato fruits are universal in use: they can be preserved and processed in any way. Canned and soaked, they do not crack or get wet. They can be transported over long distances without deformation or spoilage, and therefore producers of these early vitamin products usually sell their harvest at a profit.

Characteristic

This hybrid type of tomato has an optimal combination of plant power with early ripening and the formation of relatively large fruits. The height of the bushes is no more than 70 cm (a determinate type of tomato), they have little foliage.

Tomato ripening occurs approximately 90 days after the appearance of the first shoots. The weight of one Werner tomato can reach 240–280 g, and in some cases - 300 g. Weather conditions have only a slight negative impact on the quantity and quality of the ovary formed.

The fruits have a rich pink color, and the taste is quite high. On a 10-point scale, this hybrid has 9 points. They do not contain the usual acid inherent in many representatives of this type of vegetable. The sugar structure of the fruit is most organically suitable for eating Werner tomatoes fresh, for adding to salads, as well as for making juices, pastes or ketchup.

Tomatoes have a flat-round shape. On top they are covered with a rather dense skin. This circumstance prevents it from cracking under unfavorable irrigation conditions (insufficient or too abundant irrigation). As reviews note, the plant is highly resistant to disease.

Tomato Fidelity

An early-ripening, productive, medium-sized tomato hybrid for open ground and greenhouses. The period from germination to the beginning of ripening is 100-103 days.

The bush is of a determinate type, 1.2-1.3 meters high, requiring tying to a support and pinching. The manufacturer recommends forming the plant into 2-3 stems.

The leaves of this tomato are medium-sized and green. Inflorescence of intermediate type. The first brush is formed over the 5-6th leaf, each subsequent brush is formed through the leaf.

The Vernost F1 tomato is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation for cultivation in open ground and under film covers on private farms.

Originator: Panchev Yu.I.

Basic qualities of fruits

The fruits are round, dense, red in color at maturity, weighing 180-200 grams, fleshy, good taste for a hybrid. Not prone to cracking, transportable. These tomatoes are suitable for early fresh salads, processing into tomato products, and home cooking.

Thanks to its early ripening, this hybrid manages to produce a harvest before the onset of cold nights and, accordingly, the onset of late blight. It is also resistant to verticillium and fusarium.

Advantages of the tomato Fidelity: high yield, large-fruited, excellent commercial quality of the fruit.

Features of cultivation, planting and care

Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out 55-60 days before the intended planting in the ground. Seedlings dive at the stage of two true leaves. When planting seedlings in a permanent place per 1 sq. It is recommended to place up to 4 plants per meter of land.

Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizer, pinching and preventive measures to protect against diseases and pests.

If you grew Vernost tomatoes, please write whether you liked them or not. What was the yield and taste of the fruits like under your climatic conditions? How do you rate the disease resistance of this hybrid? If possible, attach a photo of your tomatoes to your comment. Thank you!

Your feedback on the tomato. Fidelity and additions to the description will help many gardeners evaluate this hybrid more objectively and decide whether it is worth planting or not.

Tomato Verna

Ripening timemid-season variety
Fruit colorsorange-orange
Growing methodfor growing in a greenhouse

The Verna tomato variety came to us from sunny Bulgaria. Therefore, it is not worthwhile to grow it in open ground; it is better to immediately plant it under film or in a stationary greenhouse. The plant is semi-determinate, not too tall. It can grow up to one and a half meters, but is usually limited to 1.2 m in height.

The bush is quite spreading and requires tying to a support and pinching. It is also necessary to form the plant into two or three stems.

Due to their composition, these tomatoes are recommended for dietary nutrition and nutrition for children. Plus, in addition to all the advantages, the fruits of the Verna variety are stored well and for a long time. They can be eaten fresh, preserved in any way, including freezing.

And the most important advantage of the variety, which makes it the favorite of all summer residents, is the yield of 10 kilograms per bush. Since four plants can be placed on a square meter of soil, 40 kilograms of the finest quality tomatoes can easily be harvested from one meter.

Sowing seeds for growing seedlings begins 55-60 days before planting. Tomatoes ripen within 110-115 days after germination.

In May, seedlings are planted in captive greenhouses, shelters and greenhouses, and in early June - in open ground.

Care: watering as needed (it is especially important to water the tomato before flowering, with the appearance of ovaries and at the beginning of fruit ripening), weeding, loosening, fertilizing. MO, g

Shchelkovo, st. Zavodskaya, 15

Moscow Region, Shchelkovo, st. Zavodskaya, 15

Opinion: the hybrid is very productive and unusually sweet!

Results of 2014: due to a very cold spring, the fruits were small and not as sweet as in 2013.

A selection of reviews about the hybrid

In the greenhouse of Vera F1 tomato seed producers, individual clusters number 30 fruits, and the height of the vines is 2.5-3 m. There are few reviews from practicing amateur gardeners on the Internet. This is due to the youth of the hybrid. It was released in 2016-2017. and has not yet become widespread among the people.

Practice shows the high resistance of tomatoes to late blight. Additionally, the bed is saved by early ripening, before the outbreak of the disease. The trunk of the plant is strong and does not break under the weight of the fruit. The optimal number of stems is 2. This way you will get the maximum benefit from the plant in terms of yield.

Vera F1 - young tomato. Breeders talk about its high yield, resistance to typical tomato diseases, very early and friendly ripening, and sweet taste. The experience of amateur gardeners has not yet confirmed or refuted this. The hybrid is adapted for cultivation in protected ground, therefore suitable for cool regions.

Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizer, pinching and preventive measures to protect against diseases and pests.

When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, we recommend installing a drip irrigation system - this will save your time and effort, as well as increase plant productivity and reduce the risk of late blight.

Planting in the ground and caring for tomatoes

When the seedlings grow up and a stable warm temperature is established outside, Vernost tomatoes are planted in open ground.

It is first recommended to harden off young plants that grew on a windowsill or in a greenhouse. To do this, boxes with seedlings are taken outside during the week before planting.

The first day they are left in the fresh air for 20-30 minutes, and in subsequent days the hardening time is gradually increased. This procedure must be carried out to increase the resistance of plants to low temperatures, which often occur in spring.

Although the Vernost variety is not picky about soil quality, it is still recommended to plant tomatoes in slightly acidic or neutral soil fertilized with humus. This will allow you to grow strong, healthy bushes and get a good harvest.

The distance between rows should be 70 cm, between bushes - 40. Seedlings are planted in a checkerboard pattern, two seedlings in one hole and immediately filled with plenty of water.

When planting more than 400-500 bushes, it is advisable to make trenches along the entire length of the row rather than holes around each plant. This will save time when watering tomatoes with a hose in the future.

In dense plantings with a large number of weeds, various diseases and pests often develop. Therefore, every 2-3 weeks it is necessary to clear the beds of weeds, preventing them from growing.

When the height of the bushes reaches 50-60 cm, they need to be tied to supports.

Feeding

A week after planting the hybrid variety Vernost in the ground, the bushes begin to be fed. For this purpose, nitrogen fertilizers are used, which promote the growth of stems and green mass. An excess of nitrogen can cause underdevelopment of flower clusters, so preparations containing this substance must be applied strictly according to the instructions on the package.

In addition to nitrogen, young plants need potassium and phosphorus supplements. Sulfur, calcium, and manganese are also useful for tomatoes. Mineral fertilizers improve plant growth and the taste characteristics of fruits, increase their resistance to diseases and pests, and prevent the occurrence of fungal and viral diseases.

The following fertilizers are used for Vernost tomatoes:

  • Chicken droppings.
  • Mullein.
  • Urea.
  • Ammonium nitrate.
  • Ammophos.
  • Ash.
  • Superphosphate.
  • Colloidal sulfur.
  • Calimagnesia and others.

For convenience, you can use complex fertilizers - Kemira Plus, Mortar, Universal, Nitroammofoska. The plants are fed until the fruits begin to ripen.

It is also recommended to add a solution with a nutrient mixture to the hole when planting seedlings.

What to do after sprouts appear?

Tomato Werner f1, like other varieties, should be watered abundantly only after the first leaves appear. And the already strong sprouts can be planted in the soil closer to mid-June.

During planting, it is better to do pruning, that is, slightly trim the roots of the plant to improve their growth.

A distance of half a meter should be left between seedlings so that the root systems of neighboring bushes do not interfere with each other.

The sprouts should be carefully looked after for a week after planting so that they become stronger. Apart from the time after planting in open ground, the shoots are not afraid of the sun, cold and wind. Dutch producers made sure that with minimal care this variety produces a rich harvest. And as experience has proven, Werner tomatoes are successfully grown in the far north of Russia.

So, let's repeat the action plan:

  • plant seeds in a pot;
  • when sprouts appear, we take the pots out onto the balcony;
  • We begin abundant watering after the leaves appear;
  • we plant the strengthened sprouts in the soil;
  • we take care for a week after planting;
  • We are waiting for the result.

Availability

Werner f1 tomato seeds are freely sold in most seed stores in Russia. And growing tomatoes is permissible not only in open spaces; they also bear fruit well at home.

For example, if you don’t have a summer house or the opportunity to travel outside the city, you can plant the seeds in a flower pot and harvest them in a couple of months. This method of growing is quite convenient, since the bush is short and does not take up much space.

How to grow properly

Tonopah F1 does not require any special conditions for cultivation, and experienced farmers warn that it is advisable to buy the seeds of this Dutch hybrid from trusted sellers and specialized stores. And testing the expiration date of the seeds is essential.

The harvest will be excellent, otherwise follow the usual rules. Seeds are planted in prepared containers at the end of the year - the very beginning of April. It is advisable to warm the seeds before planting them in the ground.

Experts advise doing the following before planting: soak the seeds in hot water, the temperature of which is 50 degrees Celsius, and reserve them for two hours. And in order to create the correct temperature schedule, this is done either in a water bath or on a radiator. After the specified time has passed, the seeds are placed in cold, room temperature water to allow them to cool. Afterwards, prepare a solution of manganese, adhering to the following proportions - 500 g. water 1 gr. potassium permanganate. To make the seeds even stronger, they are placed for a short time in ash water, which is prepared without difficulty: a teaspoon of ash per liter of water. After this, it is not prohibited to plant seeds.

When the first leaves appear, transplantation is carried out. Since the leaves of this variety develop mainly in pairs, in this case the picking occurs at the moment of their appearance. Temperature conditions are extremely important for the growth of Tonopah. In order for the sprouts to begin to grow upward intensively, the air temperature should be from +25 to +27 degrees. Just as the seedlings have just appeared on the surface, the temperature must be reduced to +20 degrees, but not lower, otherwise the transplants will slow down their growth. Only after the seedlings have grown and gained strength is it time to transplant the crop into open ground - to a permanent place.

If the tomato is ready to ripen in a greenhouse, the soil temperature there should not be +18 degrees. When tomatoes grow in open ground, you need to make sure that there are no frosts ahead, otherwise you will lose half of the harvest.

Planting rules - per 1 sq. m, you can plant 4 bushes at a glance, so that you can properly water, treat the plants, and crowd out weeds. Planting method: nesting. Supports should be prepared in advance; on average, brushes hung with ripening fruits can easily break. Then, after the ovaries have appeared, the fruits are actively ripening, the supports will become a reliable support for the interests of each hand. You can purchase brush holders at a specialty store, but many gardeners make them independently.

Fertilizers will definitely be needed, despite the fact that the variety is infinitely productive.

How to plant and grow a Cornabel tomato

Since the tomato is a hybrid, seeds must be purchased annually. Cultivation is carried out by seedling method. Sowing of seeds begins 1.5–2 months before the intended transplantation to a permanent location. The usual sowing time is the end of February - mid-March (for greenhouse cultivation - early February).

You need to calculate the sowing time so that the seedlings are transplanted before flowering begins.

The seeds do not require additional processing. They are sown in soil prepared in advance and enriched with organic matter and minerals. The seeds need to be buried 2 cm.

Seeds are placed on moist soil and covered with 2 cm of soil.

Until the seedlings appear, the sown containers are kept in a dark place under a plastic film. Then the seedlings are taken to a warm, bright room and grown according to the same rules as other tomatoes. When two true leaves open, the seedlings are placed into separate cups with a volume of at least 0.5 liters.

Before transplanting to a permanent place, the seedlings are hardened by taking them to an open balcony or outside. Planting seedlings in the ground can be done when the soil warms up to 15 ° C to a depth of 10–12 cm (usually this happens in May).

Caring for tomato beds

Growing the Cornabel hybrid necessarily includes the formation and tying of bushes. Due to their height, supports should be selected more powerfully. Excess stepsons need to be removed, forming the plant into one stem.

Forming tomatoes into 1 stem - video

Frequent pinching can increase the incidence of disease due to constant injury to the bush.

To improve ventilation, it is advisable to plant bushes at a large distance from each other; in this case, you can plant bushes less often. At the same time, the yield is slightly reduced, but the time spent on growing plants is reduced.

Tall bushes must be attached to strong supports

It is advisable to water the hybrid more often - every 3-4 days, but moderately. It is recommended to add minerals (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) along with irrigation water. It should be remembered that excess nitrogen fertilizers cause “fatification” of tomatoes - excessive growth of green mass. Excess potassium fertilizers are also not recommended for the Cornabel hybrid - they interfere with the plant’s ability to absorb calcium.

In addition, potassium promotes fruit growth, and Cornabel, being a generative tomato, is already prone to increased formation of ovaries. With an excess of potassium, the fruit mass can be so large that the growth of the bush and the development of roots slow down, the branches become thinner and the formation of new flowers stops.

Potassium compounds are very helpful in increasing fruit weight, but if applied in excess they can be harmful.

If the bush is too “carried away” in the formation of fruits, it is necessary to stimulate its vegetative development. The following methods exist for this:

  • artificially increasing the difference between night and day air temperatures. This measure is used only for greenhouse cultivation by slightly heating the air at night. It is enough to increase the night temperature by a couple of degrees for the bushes to grow;
  • The growth rate of shoots can be increased by increasing air humidity and less frequent ventilation. At the same time, the evaporation of moisture by plants is reduced, and growth is intensified. You just need to be careful - fungal diseases easily develop at high humidity;
  • frequent short-term watering also stimulates the growth of green mass;
  • in greenhouse conditions, to increase shoot growth, you can also stop feeding the plants with carbon dioxide and add more nitrogen to the soil;
  • during the formation of the bush, several additional shoots should be left to increase the green mass;
  • to reduce generative growth, it is recommended to regulate the number of inflorescences: even before flowering, remove the weakest buds;
  • Decreased illumination also contributes to a decrease in the number of ovaries and the growth of shoots. To reduce the amount of light, tomatoes are shaded on the south side. In greenhouses, special curtains are used for these purposes.

Over the years of growing tall tomatoes, I have developed some techniques for increasing yield. When the first flowers appear, be sure to spray the bushes with a solution of boric acid (3 g per three-liter bottle). This will prevent the flowers from falling off. I carefully remove the excess shoots, and at the end of summer I pinch the top of the stem above the last cluster (you need to leave 2-3 leaves). If you feed the plantings at the beginning of the fruiting period with a salt solution (1 tablespoon of salt and potassium chloride per bucket of water) at the rate of 0.5 liters per 1 bush, then the fruits will be sweeter. To do this, I sprinkle the ground around the plants with ash. Fertilizing also helps to get a tasty and abundant harvest. For the first feeding (15 days after planting in the ground) I use nitrophoska with urea (1 tablespoon per bucket of water), for the second (during the flowering period) - Mortar or other complex fertilizer, and for the third (after another 15 days) - superphosphate (a tablespoon per bucket of water). When the weather begins to deteriorate, I add potassium sulfate to the fertilizer.
