  • When growing tomatoes from domestic producers, many people complain that they are not resistant to diseases such as late blight, downy mildew and other dangerous tomato diseases.

    We offer Dutch tomato seeds, but people complain about their taste. The catalogs of the companies Enza Zaden and Seminis present many varieties, they are described in detail and clearly illustrated.

    Hybrids of tall tomatoes

    Out of 20-30 Dutch varieties of tomatoes, I was able to choose only a few varieties for myself. I mean for home use, not commercial use. They are tasty, disease resistant and even keep well for some time.

    Crystal

    Of the Dutch tall tomatoes, the Kloz Crystal tomato is the leader in terms of taste. The weight of its fruits averages 120-130 g, but on the first clusters they can reach 200 g. The fruits are sweet and sour, fragrant, with excellent taste. However, Crystal is no different in keeping quality: it is stored no longer than three days. This variety is suitable for both fresh eating and canning.

    • Plantain: cultivation, properties, application

    Bellfort

    The Dutch Bellfort tomato has a sweeter taste with fruits of a beautiful dark cherry color, with a spout, weighing 250-240 g, without a stem, very juicy and sugary.

    Rally Berberan

    In terms of taste, the Rally Berberana variety from Enza Zaden is very good. Its fruits on the first clusters weigh up to half a kilogram. They are fleshy and tasty, but the variety has one small drawback: in August, when the cold nights begin, the fruits crack. However, by this time you will already be full and will be able to make excellent juice from them.

    Agilis

    The very tasty Agilis tomato is a new variety from the same company. It is meaty, tasty, fragrant and sits well.

    Sarah

    Sarah is a new disease-resistant variety from Syngenta. Its fruits are large, tasty, sugary, without a stem and pleated near the tail. You can’t put this tomato in a jar, but it’s perfect for eating and making juice.

    Panekra

    A good Panekra tomato is productive and disease resistant. Its fruits are round, beautiful and tasty, but they need to ripen on the bush: these tomatoes ripen poorly.

    Pink Claire and Pink Jazz

    For pink tall tomatoes, I can recommend the varieties Pink Claire and Pink Jazz from Hazer and Manus from Rijk Zwaan. These are new varieties that have already proven themselves well.

    KS 10 F1

    People suffering from allergies and asthma will benefit from the yellow-fruited, productive variety KS 10 F1 from Kitano. Its fruits are tasty, large, fleshy, but not very shelf-stable: tasty tomatoes are usually not very shelf-stable. On the first clusters the fruits reach a weight of 300 g.

    Description and characteristics of the variety

    The originator of the Canadian giant tomato is unknown, and the variety is also not included in the State Register.

    It has tall indeterminate bushes, the minimum height of which is 150-180 cm, but can grow up to 2 meters. Potato type leaves. The fruits ripen in the middle period.

    The variety grows well in open ground. It should be planted in a greenhouse only in cold regions.

    The weight of tomatoes is from 300-500 g to 800 g (with proper pinching and removal of excess ovaries). These are beefsteak tomatoes, with meaty flesh. The color is red. There are few seeds and juice inside, the pulp is tender, sweet, tasty and aromatic. Tomatoes are used for salads, making pastas and various dishes.

    Low growing hybrids

    Bobcat

    Bobcat from Syngenta is a large-fruited red-fruited tomato that forms 4-5 clusters. Its bushes are densely leafy, and this protects the fruits from the heat.

    The varieties Olga and Tanya from Vilmorin are also good.

    Aysan and Asvon

    Among the low-growing varieties of the Kitano company, it is worth noting the yellow-fruited Aisan and the red-fruited Asvon. The 100-gram sweet and sour fruits of Asvon are perfect for canning. They do not crack and give thick juice.

    If ten years ago I really couldn’t name people a tasty Dutch variety, now very tasty hybrids have appeared that are worthy of all praise.

    Features of growing the variety

    Pre-sowing treatment for tomatoes is very important. Seeds need to be tested for germination in salt water, and any that float should be removed. Before planting, 3-4 days before planting, the seed can be soaked in a manganese solution for an hour, then rinsed and dried. And a day before sowing, soak the seeds in aloe juice for 2-3 hours - this will stimulate the immune system and speed up germination. Sowing begins in late February and early March according to the lunar calendar.

    It is best to mix soil purchased and from the garden, since the variety is demanding in terms of composition. Proportions of 1/1 are suitable, but you definitely need to etch the soil with boiling water and manganese and then dry it. Plant seeds in a common tray or individual cups, which is more convenient under film. During germination, the temperature is needed at 26-28 degrees, after 23-25 degrees. In the phase of 3-4 leaves, seedlings are fed with urea.

    Transfer to the greenhouse and greenhouse is carried out from mid-May, when it became warm even at night - from +15 degrees. The soil is prepared and the entire greenhouse is treated with antiseptics. We have already talked about crop rotation. Humus and ash are added to the soil, dug up, and then a complex preparation is added to each hole. Be sure to pour boiling water on it. 2-3 holes are dug per meter. Since the variety is demanding on moisture, it is better to mulch the beds.

    To get the maximum yield, all the shoots are planted, but one is left in the upper fork - this is the second stem. Every 10-14 days, additional feeding is carried out - the manure is diluted 1/10, the next time they are fed with complexes - “Superphosphate”, “Universal”. This is how they alternate throughout the growing season. To prevent diseases, they are sprayed once a week with a weak solution of manganese; to stimulate flowering, “Ovary”; insects are driven with infusions of spices.

    If you follow these recommendations, you will not have any problems. Getting a good harvest is a reality, not a myth.

    Instead of Sunrise - Debut

    They asked me about the Sunrise variety from Seminis. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued. Instead, I can offer the Debut variety from the same company. Its fruits are the same in weight - 200-240 g. The variety's resistance to disease is very high. This tomato has excellent taste and is designed for fresh consumption. The variety is very early: the growing season from germination to the start of fruiting is 57-60 days. The combination of large fruit and early ripeness is very rare.

    I grew all these varieties, so I can vouch for them. However, seeds of Dutch varieties are not cheap. For example, the seed of the best-selling variety Crystal is 2-3 times cheaper than the seed of any Dutch tomato, the price of each of which is from 2 to 4 hryvnia.

    Growing seedlings

    Seeds of the Canary variety begin to be planted in early to mid-March.

    Planting tomatoes for seedlings is carried out according to the following algorithm:

    • prepare a container, for example, a wooden box;
    • fill with self-prepared or specialized soil;
    • seed is placed in the moistened soil to a depth of about 1 cm;
    • the planting is sprayed with settled water from a spray bottle;
    • The container with seedlings is covered with film and put in a warm place.

    If the sowing rules are followed, seedlings are expected to appear in 7-10 days.

    Important! Young plants need to maintain a temperature of 19-21°C, as well as a 10-hour sunny day. In the absence of natural lighting, artificial lighting is used.

    When 1-2 true leaves appear, tomato seedlings are plucked.

    Planting in open ground is possible when the seedlings reach 65 days, and in greenhouses - 50 days;

    14 days before planting in a permanent place, the tomatoes are hardened, gradually lowering the temperature.

    Varietal tomatoes

    We have a huge selection of varietal high-yielding tomatoes. Not as productive as hybrids, but still quite productive.

    Budenovka is one of the most delicious tomatoes: sugary, dense and tasty.

    Bearpaw and Pink Cheeks are excellent pink-fruited varieties.

    The pink-fruited variety Mikado has long been widely known in Ukraine. A bush on stakes can reach a height of 1-1.2 m, and when grown in this position, the fruits retain their marketable appearance longer and rot less.

    Everyone also knows the Ox Heart variety: it is a large, tasty tomato with fruits weighing up to 1 kg, so the bush produces only 5 to 8 fruits per season.

    We now have a pink Shar Pei variety on sale.

    Varietal seeds of Ukrainian selection are rare. Mostly seed material is brought from Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany. They are very high quality, productive and inexpensive.

    Description of the variety and its features

    This tomato is not zoned in the Russian Federation. It is not included in the Register of the State Commission for Selection Achievements. Seeds can only be found from private farmer distributors. Some vegetable growers grow crops based on planting material from the USA.

    Attention! Do not confuse the tomato with the Canadian Giant variety. They have similar not only names, but also some characteristics. Canadian heritage is smaller and also different in color and taste.

    The tomato is a 2-meter bush. It is mainly grown in open soil, but there are also greenhouse examples. The fruits are amazing with a combination of red, yellow and orange in between. Check out the photo - this combination is present both on the skin and in the pulp. The variety has adopted a sweet taste from yellow-fruited tomatoes, but there is no sourness at all. The pulp is loose, but practically devoid of liquid.

    Varietal cherry

    Many people are interested in cherry tomatoes. Dutch varieties of this variety are never unpalatable, because they are all created for restaurant use. They are always sweet, but Dutch cherry seeds cost from 5 hryvnia and more.

    And the seeds of short and tall high-yielding varieties of German and Dutch selection, packaged by Green Line, are much cheaper. We can offer varieties such as Pink Shalun, Red Cherry Red, Black Cherry Dark Red and Golden Cherry - the sweetest, with the taste of apricot.

    These tomatoes do not crack and are suitable both for fresh eating, especially in Greek salad, and for canning.

    Growing and care

    Water tomatoes only with warm water, being careful not to wet the stem and leaves, during periods when the bushes are not exposed to direct sunlight. Moisturize as needed, but regularly.

    Feed 3-5 times. There are three basic feedings:

    Young bushes need nitrogen more than other elements, while older bushes need potassium and phosphorus more.

    Plants are tied to supports and formed into 1-3 stems. Excess ovaries are removed to obtain large tomatoes.

    Varieties for commercial purposes

    For those who are interested in tomatoes as a commodity for sale, I can offer the red-fruited greenhouse varieties Zulfiya and Mojito from Rijk Zwaan. They have a high shelf life - up to a month after the last harvest.

    For pink mature tomatoes, I can suggest the Mei Shuai variety from Simonis and Mamston from Syngenta. Mei Shuai's fruits are tastier and more beautiful - a real commercial tomato. Mamston's fruits are larger, and if they are allowed to ripen on the bush, they are also very tasty.

    The Syngenta company has a semi-tall Bostina variety, which forms up to 8 clusters, and a T97082 variety. For commercial purposes, they are ideally suited: durable, beautiful, do not crack, resistant to disease and have a good presentation.

    • Carrots: planting before winter 2022

    A very large commercial tomato variety, Matias, from the Seminis company: its beautiful fruits weigh 200-300 g or more, do not crack and have a high shelf life, but they acquire taste and sugar content only after full ripening.

    I told you about the most popular and high-quality varieties that I grew myself. All the best.

    Advantages and Disadvantages of Culture

    The main value of the culture is its taste. When fully ripe, tomatoes become redder, the flesh acquires a jelly-like structure and characteristic fruity notes of taste. In good conditions and with the right agricultural technology, you can grow tomatoes weighing up to 700-800 g. On average, they are also not small - 150-300 g. The fruits on one bush are even in size.

    Attention! In the greenhouse, the tomato showed better yield compared to an open bed in the garden: 9-10 clusters of 5-6 fruits versus 8 clusters with 5 tomatoes each.

    Flaws:

    1. Extended unfriendly maturation.
    2. The difficulty of cultivating tomatoes in regions with cool climates and short seasons. The ripening period for Canada varies between 110-120 days.
    3. Not the best keeping quality. The not very dense pulp does not allow tomatoes to be stored for a long time and transported over long distances.
    4. The bush requires correct formation and regular removal of stepsons. Without a garter, a tomato will also not be able to bear fruit normally.
    5. A small amount of seeds. It is difficult to collect 2-3 seeds from one bush, and only from a late harvest.

    Growing and care

    Water tomatoes only with warm water, being careful not to wet the stem and leaves, during periods when the bushes are not exposed to direct sunlight. Moisturize as needed, but regularly.

    Irregular watering leads to cracking of fruits, especially in large-fruited varieties.
