Interest in growing tomatoes is only growing every year. Many people want to grow high-quality tomatoes, have a rich harvest and enjoy the taste of tomatoes as early as possible. Hence the increased interest in early ripening varieties. There are many varieties, varieties and hybrids of early ripening tomatoes. Early ripening tomatoes are able to quickly form a harvest during the first month of fruiting.
The first early variety is the Son of a Hero tomato. The Son of a Hero tomato is one of the earliest varieties and is intended for growing in open ground. The hybrid of this tomato variety is called Prokhor. The Prokhor tomato is similar to the Son of a Hero tomato in terms of characteristics and description of the variety.
Review of tomato varieties for open ground
Varieties of tomatoes (tomatoes) for open ground
Many gardeners in the Urals and Siberia have almost stopped growing tomatoes in open ground. Greenhouse varieties and hybrids of tomatoes are much superior to their outdoor counterparts in terms of yield and size. But what about the taste? There is nothing to argue about here. Street ones tend to taste better.
Therefore, you need to know which varieties of tomatoes are best grown in open ground. We need early and extra early varieties. There are varieties that ripen simultaneously with early greenhouse varieties of tomatoes and thereby dramatically increase the weight of the early harvest.
The indeterminate type of tomato plant is a plant of unlimited growth. In open ground, such tomatoes reach a bush height of up to 1.5 meters.
The determinate type of tomato plant is a plant that is limited in growth. In open ground, such tomatoes reach a bush height of up to 0.6 meters.
Determinate varieties of tomatoes are distinguished into standard or non-standard plant types.
Tomato varieties with a standard type are low (up to 0.5 m in height), squat, with a strong, erect stem and strongly corrugated leaves.
Seedlings of standard-type varieties are compact, durable and have better survival rate.
The ripening period of fruits is counted from the day of emergence.
Varieties of tomatoes (tomatoes) for open ground with a description
Variety “Apricot” F1 is an extremely early hybrid of tomatoes. When you go to a garden with super-early tomatoes, you involuntarily catch yourself thinking that you are going not just for a tomato, but for an amber-yellow, incredibly tasty “Apricot”. You can't think of a better refreshing treat at the very beginning of summer. This hybrid is good both in salads and rolled up in jars. A canned assortment of red and yellow tomatoes looks unusual and amazingly beautiful. The variety is characterized by a high yield load with the shortest possible growing season. Thickened planting according to a 40x40 cm pattern is used, the yield with this planting pattern is 12-15 kg per square meter. No pinning required.
Variety “Tsarevich” F1 is a large-fruited hybrid for open ground. It produces huge fleshy fruits, the weight of which exceeds 250 g. The yield is somewhat lower than that of the “Champion”, but quite high. Recent studies have shown that “Tsarevich” grows well and bears fruit abundantly without pinching.
Variety “Champion” F1 - in vegetable growing there is a concept of “marketability”. In terms of its set of qualities, “Champion” belongs to the most highly marketable open ground hybrids. The fruits are large, beautiful, one-dimensional, excellent in shape and have the same excellent taste. It is difficult to praise it enough, especially since the yield is outstanding. The weight of the fruit reaches 200 g. No pinching is required, you just need to lighten the abundant lower clusters and open them completely to the sun. To do this, part of the lower leaves shading the fruits is removed.
Variety "Atlant" F1 is a very interesting variety. In terms of ripening, it comes close to the earliest. But if you look at the weighty 200-gram fruits, you can only put it next to “Champion” and “Tsarevich”. The yield is absolutely amazing. The planting pattern for these three hybrids is 60x50 cm.
Variety "Burlak" F1 - this variety is not like anything else at all. Immediately after the first leaves appear on Burlak seedlings, even experts can say: “What strong eggplants you grow.” And these are not eggplants at all, but tomatoes. But in the initial period of life they surprisingly resemble eggplants. And in the future... Absolutely undissected, continuous leaves of the potato type (but no variety of tomatoes has such leaves) and huge, very quickly ripening fruits weighing up to 500 grams. Of the early-ripening tomatoes, this is, without any doubt, the largest-fruited hybrid. Tests have shown that “Burlak” in open ground, without any shelter, feels equally good and bears fruit abundantly both in the Tyumen region, in the northern taiga zone, and in Volgograd, hot from the scorching sun. And this is not some kind of genetically modified mutant, this hybrid was obtained as a result of traditional selection, which goes back five thousand years. We form, like all especially large hybrids, into one stem.
Variety "Vasily" F1 is an amazing hybrid. By mid-July there is a bush 60 cm high, literally strewn with even, medium-sized fruits. Some have already turned red and are asking to be served on the table, others are catching up with them, and “babies” are abundantly tied on the upper stepsons, promising a long, sustainable harvest, creating an atmosphere of reliability and stability.
Variety “Record” F1 and variety “Debut” F1 - Not the earliest and not the largest. But they are the ones who will reward you for your very modest efforts with an absolutely incredible harvest. Powerful, dense branches bend under the weight of fruits, 6-7.5 kg per bush, what more could you want! “Record” and “Debut” are real record holders in terms of yield. The fruits of “Record” are completely round, while those of “Debut” resemble giant plums. We did not make a reservation when we mentioned very modest works. Both hybrids do not require pinching at all. Planting pattern 60 x 50 cm.
Variety "Elena" F1 is an all-weather tomato. Let the summer be cold and rainy, let all the summer sunny days be counted on one hand. And you look at the “Elena” bush, and your heart rejoices: a lot of pretty tomatoes are turning red on the vine. And he doesn't care about the cold. This hybrid produces the entire harvest very unanimously. From a bush you can collect up to half a bucket of excellent fruits at once. No pinching is required, planting pattern is 60×50 cm.
Variety “Zephyr” F1 - ripens simultaneously with early tomatoes in the greenhouse. This is a strange, unusual sight. The first ripe red fruits are located at the very top of the bush, above the leaves, shine and are visible a kilometer away. Fascinated by this magical picture, the guests of your garden fall silent for a long time, and then spend the whole evening trying to figure out “where it comes from” and “what you water it with.” We don’t water it with anything special. It's a hybrid, that's the whole secret. The bushes are low and compact. “Zephyr” has oval, tasty fruits.
Variety "Manzherok" F1 - if we want to hold a competition on suitability for canning among open-ground tomatoes, it turns out that the hybrid "Manzherok" simply has no competitors. Neat plum-shaped fruits seem to be specially designed for rolling into jars. Its bush is low, standard, does not lie down, and does not require pinching. Fruit ripening begins in the last ten days of July, they ripen well and have good shelf life. Planting pattern 60*50 cm.
The variety "Prokhor" F1 and the variety "Aristarchus" - the climate has been changing quite a lot lately. Temperature changes are so sharp that it is not easy for old, classic varieties of tomatoes to adapt to them. That is why “Elena” had two younger brothers, “Aristarchus” and “Prokhor”.
If the summer is good and hot, then the hybrids “Aristarchus” and “Prokhor” will give just a good harvest. And yet these are the kings of the cold summer. When flowers from ordinary, traditional varieties of tomatoes fall off in heaps due to prolonged bad weather, “Aristarchus” and “Prokhor” will stubbornly, brush by brush, set large, beautiful fruits.
The bush of “Prokhor” is more powerful and spreading than that of “Aristarchus”, and the unripe fruits are not green, but almost white, very beautiful, similar in color to tomatoes of the “White Naliv” variety, but much larger.
Variety "Robinson" F1 - needs to be sown earlier than others. He is very unusual and interesting. Unlike all other varieties, its leaves are potato-type, the fruits are flat, crimson, weighing up to 300 g. With early sowing and good care it gives a very high yield. The fruits of this particular variety produce the best tomato juice for sweet pepper lecho and for tomatoes in their own juice.
The “Son of a Hero” F1 variety is the earliest tomato hybrid. One of the best varieties of tomatoes for open ground.
Variety "Timofey" F1 - the youngest brother of "Elena", "Aristarchus" and "Prokhor" took all the best that the brothers and sister had, but also turned out to be the most productive of the entire cold-resistant family.
Varieties “Non-synonymous Red with a spout”, “Non-synchronous Raspberry”, “Non-synchronous Sugar”, “Non-synchronous Pink”, “Non-synchronous Orange with a spout”, “Non-synchronous heart-shaped” - “NEPASY”. Ideal varieties for beginning gardeners and “weekend gardeners,” that is, for people who do not have the opportunity to regularly monitor the cultivation of tomatoes on their plots. All these varieties are early ripening and due to the smaller formation of stepsons, good ventilation of the plantings is ensured, thereby the plants protect themselves from late blight. If you find time for pinching, you won’t do anything worse; on the contrary, it will speed up the ripening of the crop and increase the size of the fruit.
Variety “Soyuz-8” F1 is a large-fruited, early-ripening hybrid for open ground. Ripening 104-110 days after emergence. The plant is determinate, powerful, with medium foliage. Fruit weight 100-140 g. Open ground tomatoes Experience, reviews
You yourself know that the rare gardener in a seed store behaves like a modest young lady at a buffet table: he won’t eat an extra piece and won’t drink an extra sip.
As soon as I saw the shelves, my eyes immediately lit up and the experienced man woke up. So, why ask, I don’t stop looking for new tomatoes for open ground, as if there are no old and proven ones?
After all, checking and choosing was also worth the effort, so universal open-ground tomatoes were registered in the beds: Budyonnovka, Biyskaya rose, sometimes they write Biysk rosen (this is a folk selection of the city in which I was born and live), the long-familiar Bull's heart and the Pink giant, which is a passion , as we like, pickled in barrels, varieties of orange tomatoes - Orange and yellow - Persimmon.
But the climate is changing, new covering materials, greenhouses and new varieties and hybrids are appearing. But the experienced one can’t calm down! He experiments everything, tries everything.
Open ground tomatoes of Chelyabinsk selection in my garden - 2012.
In 2012, in my garden, I grew two hybrids of Ural selection: open-ground tomatoes Aristarchus and Prokhor. Why did you choose them?
The preceding years were very cruel; there was no warmth at all in the summer. Tomatoes are heat-loving; even if the ovaries were able to appear on those few warm days that summer occasionally bestowed, they no longer had enough strength to grow.
It was written about the tomatoes Aristarchus and Prokhor that in the usual warm summer, favorable for ground tomatoes, they will give a normal harvest. That is, they won’t be able to boast of anything special. This is understandable; everything grows in warmth and moisture.
Prokhor and Aristarchus must and must give a huge harvest in lean years. That’s when, in cold, rotten summers, it’s profitable to grow Prokhor and Aristarchus tomatoes for open ground. My experience was not very successful. These open ground tomatoes yielded a good harvest, but the summer was so hot that it was difficult to understand their abilities. Only the last weeks of rain from the second half of August helped to see that even in the cold and damp these tomatoes set and grow.
The varieties are slightly different from each other. The fruits of Prokhor are a little reminiscent of the long-familiar White filling; the bush grows powerful and beautiful. Aristarkh (can be compared with Vasily Livanov) is more aristocratic.
I'm preparing for a new experience.
For experimental beds in 2013, I chose hybrid tomatoes for open ground: Champion, Manzherok and Burlak. My relative will try Aristarchus this year.
I’ll say right away that Manzherok chose the tomato for open ground not for its unique abilities, but for its name. I live in Altai. 130 kilometers from my home there is the village of Manzherok. Edita Piekha sang about this village; a festival of youth and students was held there a long time ago. “Tell me, my friend, what is Manzherok?”
Listen to how Muslim Magomayev sings.
I did not note any special qualities of the Manzherok hybrid in the description, except that the fruits look like plums and are good in jars. This hybrid is standard. This means that it is not tall and does not require support or garters. And it still doesn’t require stepsoning. I’ll grow seedlings, plant them in the ground and relax, like in that fairy tale where the priest hired a worker.
This is how Manzherok should grow up. Let's see.
The hybrid for open ground Champion is interesting for its beautiful, large, equal-sized fruits. It is also standard and does not require tying to a support. The fruits are not very small, up to 200 grams. Rybachka Sonya wrote about it on one of the forums that this tomato is tasty and large.
The open ground hybrid Burlak is somewhat reminiscent of the solidity of the bush and the leaves of eggplants. The leaves are not tomato, not dissected, but potato. Here is another variety of tomatoes with potato leaves. But even the leaves are unique, other varieties do not have these.
I was also interested in the bottom quality: it yields crops equally well both in hot, dry summers and in cold ones, somewhere in Tyumen or in the north, where the taiga is. This variety of tomatoes for open ground needs support and tying. The stepson shoots simply, like all giants - powerfully, only one stem remains. And the tomatoes cannot be called small - each one weighs 500 grams.
I sowed these tomatoes on March 27th. I’m in no hurry to sow open-ground tomatoes earlier, because we don’t know what kind of summer it will be, or how early it will be possible to send them from the greenhouse to the street garden. I don't want the seedlings to overgrow.
Super tomatoes. Are they for open ground?
Last year, I grew two hybrid super tomatoes in soil and in a greenhouse. I really liked the description. And they are stocky, and very powerful, and beyond all measure productive. Even the number is named: one and a half times more yield can be obtained. Both beautiful and large. I chose those that were presented as the most productive. This is a Vostok hybrid. He is the earliest. And the hybrid Voskhod, it is more productive, the most productive.
This is how I grew up in 2012 in the Voskhod greenhouse.
My experience: in the greenhouse they grew up to 2 meters, although they were described as small plants. They are very powerful, they didn’t deceive me. It’s true: I’ve never seen such powerful tomato bushes before. And the power did not decrease with growth. The trusses on which the tomatoes grew were also very powerful. The leaves are huge, the leaf blades are thick and dark green. Fruits up to 200 grams. In fact, heroes. And productive. The fisherman Sonya also liked it.
This year I chose the super tomato hybrid for open ground Argonaut. It is not afraid of late blight and should produce a bountiful harvest, although temperature changes will be enormous.
This is how Argonaut should be.
Wait and see. I liked Vostok and Voskhod. Will Argonaut fit them? Argonaut also sowed tomato seeds for open ground on March 27.
Tell us in the comments what varieties or hybrids of tomatoes you will grow for open ground this year and why you chose them.

Tomato Raspberry Empire: characteristics and description of the variety
Characteristics of unusual tomatoes of the Danko variety and description of the fruits
If a gardener is looking for tasty tomatoes with an unusual shape, he should pay attention to the Danko tomato. Some gardeners are sure that salad-type tomatoes have the most pleasant taste. Moreover, if a variety produces heart-shaped fruits, it is considered the most delicious. There was a time when the range of varieties available to Russian gardeners was quite small. And among the salad heart-shaped tomatoes, only Ox's heart can be distinguished. But now the diversity has become noticeably greater.
The seeds of this tomato can be purchased in several varieties, since they are produced by companies not only in the Russian Federation, but also in neighboring countries. Now Russian gardeners can buy Danko tomatoes from such companies as Aelita, Agros and Siberian Garden. produces the seeds of the Heart-shaped tomato, which is an exact analogue of Danko. “Golden Sotka of Altai” offers customers the Heart of Danko. The characteristics of this tomato are absolutely identical to the usual Danko.
It is worth noting that the variety acquired its name for a reason. Many people remember from the school curriculum the name of the legendary Gorky hero, who bore the name Danko. It was part of it that the variety was named, which was first bred by breeders from Siberia.
Description of fruits
One of the main advantages of this variety is its fruits. Tomatoes grow very tasty and have a rather unusual shape. This is a real heart, since the tomato has a pronounced roundness at the top, and tapers towards the bottom. The surface of the fruit is most often smooth, but sometimes there is slight ribbing.
Tomatoes come out beautiful not only in shape, but also in color. When a tomato is fully ripe, it turns a rich red color. The color becomes almost uniform, but a green spot is not excluded near the stalk. When completely ripe, it disappears.
One of the important distinguishing features of the Danko variety is that it can ripen on the windowsill. This makes it a convenient tomato for growing in Siberia and the Urals. Here you can harvest the crop already at the stage when the tomatoes turn brown. Then they ripen on the windowsill.
Danko variety tomatoes are dense, but quite juicy. Their taste does not leave anyone indifferent. The skin of the fruit is quite thin, but it does not allow the tomatoes to crack during long-term storage.
Most sweet tomatoes grow medium in size. Their weight is about 200 g, but some specimens are even half a kilogram. The gardener will always have the opportunity to use tomatoes both for vegetable salads and for preparations. Sweet and juicy tomatoes make excellent juices and sauces, but small fruits can even be used for pickling.
The productivity of this variety is very high. Several dozen delicious tomatoes appear on each bush. The fruitfulness of each plant is about 5 kg, but this result can only be achieved with proper agricultural technology.
Characteristics and care
The characteristics and description of the variety from the manufacturer indicate that this tomato produces a lot of fruits that form on a compact bush. This makes it a very convenient variety that is suitable for cultivation even by beginners. The tomato does not require garter, but excess branches should still be removed from it in order to increase the yield and reduce the ripening time of the fruit. This variety is suitable for growing in different climatic conditions. At the same time, fertility remains consistently high in any case.
The big advantage of this variety is that it is not a hybrid. This suggests that the gardener can independently stock up on seeds, leaving the largest tomatoes for them. This is much more profitable than buying new seeds from the manufacturer every year.
Bushes of the Danko variety are classified as determinant type. This means that the tomato does not stretch more than a meter. At the same time, the plant looks quite weak even with good feeding and fertilizers. The reason for this is that the plant gives most of its strength to the fruits. A lot of them appear on frail bushes. If it is not necessary to tie up the trunk itself, then the bunches with tomatoes should still be strengthened so that they do not fall to the ground.
Those who planted the Danko variety say that the timing of fruit ripening largely depends on where exactly the tomato will grow. If the summer turns out to be sunny and warm, then you can start harvesting already 100 days after planting. In unfavorable weather conditions, you have to wait 120 days for the first tomatoes.
The yield of the harvest occurs gradually. This is convenient because you can collect fresh tomatoes over a long period.
An important feature of Danko is that the variety is considered resistant and has excellent immunity. It is not susceptible to fungal diseases and various infections. Bushes that grow in open ground will be especially resistant.
Reviews regarding this variety are as follows:
Svetlana, Krasnodar region: “Despite the fact that I planted this variety for the first time, I highly appreciated it. Danko is unpretentious, does not get sick and requires minimal effort. From each bush I collected at least 5 kg of delicious heart tomatoes!”
Elvira, Krasnokamsk: “Even in our area, Danko gives a consistently high yield, so this is not the first time I have grown them. The fruits are medium in size and have high taste. They are enough for salads and for twists. These tomatoes make great juice."

Growing stages
Tomato Morozko: characteristics and description of the variety
From March 15 to April 5, seeds are sown for seedlings. The later the seedlings are sown, the better they will grow and develop.
Important! It is important to use high-quality soil for seedlings. It is recommended that the composition contain up to 30% peat and about 10% vermicompost.
Prokhor tomato seeds are planted in seedling containers. Fine charcoal is placed at the bottom as drainage. The seeds are immersed to a depth of 1 cm, a distance of 3-5 cm is maintained between the seeds. The soil is moistened with a solution of potassium permanganate. Containers with seedlings are covered with film to create a greenhouse effect. Store seedlings at a temperature of 28-30 degrees. Because the variety is a hybrid, it is more demanding of warm conditions.
After 5-7 weeks, shoots appear. At this time, hardening is carried out by placing the seedlings in a cooler room with a temperature of 15-18 degrees. This technique will improve the development of the plant's root system.
After 2 weeks, the seedlings are planted. Each sprout is planted in individual containers. In each individual pot, fine charcoal must be placed at the bottom. The soil for seedlings is fertilized with phosphorus, boron and potassium. The container is filled halfway with soil. The roots of the seedlings are completely immersed in the soil so that no air spaces are formed. The soil is watered with warm water. The break between waterings is 5 days.
After 50 days, the seedlings are ready for planting in open ground. The soil outside should warm up to 14-16 degrees.
Planting seedlings in the ground
The soil is prepared for planting. Potassium sulfate, ammonium sulfate, sulfur and nitrogen fertilizer are added to the soil. The fertilized soil must be loosened and grooves prepared for planting. A furrow 20-30 cm wide and 15-20 cm deep is required. The intervals between the beds should be maintained at a distance of 70 cm. Immediately before planting, the furrow is watered generously with warm water. Seedlings are planted at a distance of approximately 50 cm from each other.
Each seedling is placed in the ground at an angle of 45 degrees and sprinkled with earth. For better compaction, water the soil.
The first watering is carried out no earlier than 10 days later. Fertilize the soil with ammonium sulfate. Due to the fact that it contains sulfur and nitrogen, sulfate is a source of building material for the appearance of the ovary and provides prevention against diseases. The warmer the air temperature, the more often it is necessary to water and fertilize.
Note. To obtain larger fruits, it is necessary to form the growth of the plant into one stem. All shoots appearing on the tomato stem are removed. The plant produces flowers and true leaves within 7 days. During this period, it needs abundant feeding.
After fertilizing, the tomatoes are hilled. Thanks to hilling, the plant better develops its root system and receives moisture and additional nutrition from the soil.
With proper care, after 2 months you will be able to harvest your first tomato crop and enjoy its tomato taste.
