Brandy pink tomato: characteristics and description of the variety, reviews of tomato yields and photos of a large bush

Tomato “Brandy pink”: details about its advantages and disadvantages

Tomato “Brandy pink” characteristics and description of the variety, yield, reviews are not clear. It's all because of those seed packers who, by printing information on the bags, slightly add beauty to the fruits and the yield of the entire plant. Vegetable growers who expect to get a return have a negative opinion about the variety as a whole, but by the way, you need to figure it out.

general information

An application for inclusion in the register of selection achievements was submitted by Agrofirm Poisk LLC, Moscow region, Russia in 2013. After undergoing variety testing for two years, in 2015 the variety was entered into the register under number 8653771.

Characteristics and description

Plant vegetation form of indeterminate type. The plant is tall and can reach 150-160 cm in height. This figure does not suit vegetable growers very much, since the upper part of the greenhouse remains unused, which in turn affects the payback and profitability of such expensive structures.

In addition, reviews from vegetable growers indicate that the variety produces a good, large, marketable tomato only on the lower and middle inflorescences, and the higher it is, the smaller it becomes.

The variety is mid-season, intended for salad purposes, and this is another minus. The fact is that by the time “Brandy Rose” ripens, salad tomatoes, early and tasty, have already been tasted by experienced vegetable growers, and they are still in the midst of the growing season, and the arrival of the next salad seems to be too much.

The tomato leaf plate is small, green, without color intensity. Tomato stalk with articulation. The inflorescence is simple, not racemose. Fruit set on each cluster is 3-4.

The size of tomatoes ranges from 100-150 g. The shape is flat-round with well-defined ribbing. Vegetable growers indicate that the ribbing of the first, lowest tomatoes is more intense compared to those fruits that ripen on the upper inflorescences of the plant shoot.

An unripe green tomato with a spot at the stalk. As it ripens, the greenery disappears and the fruit turns pink. The color of the tomato cannot be called intense and uniform; it is slightly pale.

The tomato is average in density, although there are reviews from vegetable growers that it is a little soft and does not correspond to the stated characteristics. There are 6 or more nests in a tomato, they are filled with pulp and seeds. There is no leakage of juice when cut.

Productivity

The declared yield of the variety is 6.6 kg per square meter. Of course, for new breeding products, especially greenhouse tomatoes, this is unacceptably low.

The market is overflowing with excellent high-yielding tomatoes that will ensure high profitability of the greenhouse, so for this variety this indicator is considered a disadvantage.

Marketability and shelf life

On this basis, the variety also does not reach the standard. Considering that the ripening of the fruits does not proceed smoothly, they are of different sizes, although they have already fully reached commercial ripeness, it is not possible to collect a large harvest overnight.

The keeping quality of the variety is also not great. After harvesting, it soon begins to soften and becomes unsuitable even for preparing salads.

Surplus products can be well used for preparing tomato products, sauces, ketchups, and tomato juice. However, given that the tomato is pale in color, the products require the addition of red varieties, otherwise these tomato products will not be marketable.

Resistance to diseases and pests

The variety registry submits a variety with legal resistance to the tobacco mosaic virus. The relationship of the variety to other diseases is silent. However, experienced vegetable growers who grow tomatoes in greenhouses from year to year argue that when growing the “Brandy Pink” variety, preventive treatments with fungicidal preparations cannot be abandoned.

Advantages and disadvantages

Unfortunately, reviews from vegetable growers who have already planted this tomato variety in greenhouses are not in its favor. When talking about tomatoes, we focus more on the disadvantages than on the advantages.

  • low yield;
  • low texture density;
  • low product yield;
  • greenhouse not full.

Features of growing the variety

A tall plant that has a fruit of 100 grams or more requires shaping and gartering.

Vegetable growers chose 2-3 shoots for the best management of the “Brandy Pink” crop. However, in this case it is necessary to regulate the planting density and not thicken it.

Seeds for seedlings are sown in early March. In the state of two true leaves, the seedlings are planted in disposable cups with a capacity of 200-250 g. If universal seedling soil is used for planting, then no additional fertilizing is carried out during the growing period.

For indeterminate tomatoes, a well-developed, deep root system is very important. To grow it with optimal performance, it is necessary to transfer the seedlings into a larger container. This event is carried out when the roots completely master the earthen ball.

If the seedlings are stretched, then they are transplanted lying down, which is even more desirable, since the area of root nutrition increases.

When choosing a variety for growing in greenhouses and greenhouses, it is better to give preference not only to a pink-fruited and tasty variety, but also to a super productive variety or hybrid. In order for a greenhouse to grow profitable products, it is necessary to strictly follow agrotechnical instructions, maintain water balance and nutritional value, and fertilize.

Description of the tomato variety “Brandy pink”

The brandy pink tomato variety has mixed reviews and reviews from gardeners who have already harvested these tomatoes. Let's figure out what the advantages and disadvantages of the variety are.

general characteristics

There is an assumption that the variety was created on the basis of the American “brandywine” tomato, which has several varieties with fruits of yellow, pink, red and black, which is reflected in the names of the varieties, for example, black or apricot “brandywine”.

Ask and receive useful advice from professional gardeners and experienced summer residents.>>

The domestic version of the “brandy” tomato is recommended to be grown in central Russia in greenhouses. In the south it bears fruit excellently in open ground.

The variety belongs to the indeterminate class. However, growing experience has shown that the bush, having reached a height of 1.7 m, stops growing, and gardeners do not really like this. After all, tomatoes that can grow up to 3 m are most often planted in greenhouses. And, nevertheless, even though the plant is not very tall, like the apricot “Brandywine” tomato, it needs staking and bush formation.

The foliage is shaped like potato tops. It has a smooth surface and dark green color. According to the description of the originator, the foliage of the bushes is moderate.

Fruit

The variety belongs to the mid-season category, which means that the first fruits can be harvested 110-115 days after emergence.

The ripening of tomatoes is unfriendly, extended over time depending on weather conditions.

The first inflorescence appears on the stems at the level of 8-10 leaves. No more than 4 ovaries are formed in the hand. The largest fruits grow up to 450g, but this is rather an exception to the rule. Most tomatoes weigh between 150 and 250g.

Despite the fact that the yield is considered quite good, you need to know that with a lack of moisture, tomatoes begin to actively ripen without reaching large sizes. If watering is insufficient during the formation of the ovaries, then most of them will fall off.

With proper care, you can collect 5-6 kg of fruit from one bush.

The shape of the fruit is round and slightly flattened, with a slight rib at the stalk. The color is pink with a shade lighter than, for example, the Beef Pink Brandy f1 hybrid. The pulp is juicy with a small amount of seeds. Many gardeners rated the taste qualities as high for their sweet taste and delicate aroma. The skin of the fruit is thin but dense.

Usage

Tomatoes of this variety are tasty not only fresh, but are also actively used for culinary processing. They make excellent ketchups, condiments, and sauces. They are also suitable for making tomato paste and juice.

Preserving them is problematic, because the smallest fruits can fit in jars, and not many of them are formed on the bush.

Features of cultivation

Tomato in most regions of our country is grown through seedlings.

The time for sowing seeds is selected taking into account the local climate: 60 days before planting in the ground. You can plant the sprouts in separate cups when they have formed two true leaves.

When transplanting into a greenhouse or outdoor garden bed, the placement density must be observed: 3 plants per 1 m2.

After each watering, and it should be moderate, you need to loosen the soil and periodically hill up the tomatoes, improving the nutrition of the roots with useful substances.

In order to ensure good air circulation under the bushes, it is better to tear off the lower leaves on the stems up to the first cluster. This technique will also reduce the likelihood of plants becoming infected with late blight.

Ideal conditions for growing are air temperature 22-25°C and humidity 70%. It is not difficult to create such conditions in a greenhouse. The main thing is not to forget to ventilate it regularly.

Tomatoes need regular feeding. The soil under them needs to be enriched with complex mineral fertilizers every three weeks.

Diseases

The “Brandy Pink” variety is resistant to diseases, but there is still a possibility of plants being damaged by fungal diseases. This happens solely due to a careless attitude to the rules of care.

To protect tomatoes, it is necessary to apply simple preventive measures:

  1. Disinfection of seed and soil with a weak solution of manganese.
  2. Add one tablespoon of sifted wood ash to each hole before planting the seedlings.
  3. Treatment of plants with the systemic drug “Fitosporin-M”.

Gardeners write good reviews about “brandy pink” tomatoes. For those who have never grown this variety before, there is a great opportunity to try planting it in your greenhouse and add to your collection of your favorite tomatoes.

Reviews

  • Victoria from Tula. My personal farm has a greenhouse. Last season I planted a Brandy pink tomato. When choosing, I was guided by the photo and description on the seed packaging. She took care of the plants according to all the rules. I got large, sweet fruits. I liked the variety.
  • Natalya from Belgorod. Pink tomatoes are my weakness. I liked the variety under discussion. The pulp is tasty, there are few seeds. Since the stem is not too tall, I grew it in a small film greenhouse. I'm happy with the harvest and the taste too.
  • Vitaly from the Moscow region. Last season I built a greenhouse with a film covering on the plot near the house. I selected tall tomatoes with fruits of different sizes. The tomato under discussion performed well, but it was not possible to harvest a large harvest. Perhaps my inexperience in gardening and the strong cold weather at the beginning of summer had an effect.

The presented variety is a choice for those who love variety. A bright tomato will decorate a garden bed and a family table.

Characteristics and description of the “Big Brandy” tomato

More recently, the “Big Brandy” tomato was developed for the greenhouse conditions of any region.
More often this variety can be seen on sale under the name Big Brandy. Summer residents have an ambiguous impression of it, since on the packaging information about the fertility and external qualities of the tomato is sometimes embellished. Since 2015, it was included in the register of selection achievements under number 8653771.

Characteristic

Indeterminate type. The bushes of the plant are tall, growing up to 1 m 60 cm. Some summer residents are not entirely satisfied with this growth of the tomato because of the top, which remains uninvolved in the development process. According to gardeners, large marketable fruits are formed only from below, and the higher they are located, the smaller they are. Their main purpose is salad dressing. The leaves are small. The inflorescences are simple, not racemose. One bunch can bear up to 4 – 5 tomatoes. It is immune to diseases typical of tomatoes. To reduce the risk of infection, use known preventive measures against them.

Description

Mid-season appearance. Ripe tomatoes have a crimson color with a red tint. In general, the coloring is heterogeneous. They weigh no more than 380 g at full maturity. They have the shape of a wide apple with ribs. The tomatoes that are located at the bottom are more ribbed than those that ripen at the top. Tomatoes ripen unevenly. An unripe tomato has a green spot near the stalk. The density of “Big Brandy” is average. It contains 6 seed chambers. If you cut it in half, the juice will not flow out abundantly. The taste is pleasant - tender pulp with a slight sourness.

Yield and storage

From 1 sq. m can be collected - 6 - 7 kg. Unfortunately, this is not enough for a breeding novelty. Try to use the harvested crop quickly, fresh or use it for sauces; it will not last long and will begin to become softer and will burst. These will become unsuitable, even for fresh salad.

Pros and cons of "Big Brandy"

Those who planted tomatoes noted among the advantages

  • pleasant taste.
  • Practically not susceptible to diseases;
  • Does not require complex cultivation rules;

But among the minuses were the following:

  • Productivity is lower compared to similar registered tomatoes;
  • Low density of "Big Brandy";
  • Product yield is low;
  • The greenhouse will not be full.

Features of cultivation and care

The planting period is 2 months before planting in greenhouse conditions. Take care of the condition of the soil - it should contain the following elements in balance: potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, as well as ash, humus and compost. If there is a river near your summer cottage, feel free to add river sand to the soil. All these components have a positive effect on taste, productivity and make the development of the root system complete.

It is better to sow seeds for seedlings in the first week of March. Dive if there are 2 sheets in a container with a volume of 200 - 300 g. If you used universal soil when planting, then you don’t need to feed it additionally.

When the tomato has mastered the earthen ball, it will need to be transferred to a deeper container, since this type of tomato requires a developed, deep root system. If the seedlings are very stretchy, then it is advisable to transplant them lying down, this way the feeding area will increase significantly.

To avoid trunk breakage, it is better to tie up the bushes and form them into 2–3 shoots. At the same time, thin them out, preventing the plantings from thickening. For 1 sq. m place no more than 4 plants.

Tomato loves warmth and does not tolerate frost. In the center and west of Russia it is better not to grow it in open ground. For open ground, the most suitable areas of our homeland are the southern ones.

To make tomatoes pleasing to your eyes, do not forget to maintain humidity. Especially when the process of active flowering and fruiting begins. Apply fertilizing and loosen in a timely manner to maintain oxygen access to the roots, and also remove weeds.

Reviews

Arina: The taste was really great. For normal development, she took the following measures: sprayed with calcium nitrate, added humus, ash and horse manure with a small amount of chicken droppings to the soil. The tomatoes were ripe, the larger ones weighed 300 g at the bottom and 100 g at the top. I planted them in the place where cucumbers had previously grown. Our family liked it.

Stefania: I grow it in a greenhouse, I ventilate it regularly, and maintain stable heat. I shake the bushes to pollinate them and spray them with water from a spray bottle. Before planting, I spray with boric acid at the rate of 1 tsp per bucket. I use this tomato to make paste for the winter. And children prefer to eat it fresh.

Characteristics and description of the Brandy pink tomato variety, its yield

Pink tomatoes are traditionally classified as salad varieties, primarily due to the large size of the fruit. But the Brandy pink tomato is also distinguished by its excellent taste, which is appreciated by gardeners and has earned only positive reviews.

Tomatoes do not have a single axial stem. A series of successive shoots, which are also called stepsons, is mistakenly mistaken for it. Conventionally, it is customary to call the stem on which the first inflorescence is formed the main one.

Characteristics of the tomato variety “Brandy pink”

The “Brandy Pink” variety is intended for growing indoors in the middle climate zone. In the southern regions it also grows outdoors.

This is what its main characteristics look like:

  • an early-ripening variety with a ripening period of 85-100 days and a phased period of ripening of tomatoes at different levels;
  • the plant is medium-sized, up to 1.5-1.8 meters tall, with an indeterminate type of stem;
  • average branching, potato-type leaf, pubescent, smooth, green;
  • the variety forms inflorescences above the level of 9-12 leaves;
  • ripening is gradual, as tomatoes ripen on clusters of different levels;
  • The fruits are flat-round, with slight ribbing at the base. The weight is impressive, from 250 to 450 grams;
  • the pulp is very soft, juicy, multi-chambered with a small number of seeds;
  • the skin is smooth, thin, pale pink;
  • the taste of the tomato is simply excellent, sweet, reminiscent of watermelon;
  • Tomatoes are used as salads and for preparing tomato semi-finished products: juices, pastes, ketchups.

Varieties with unlimited growth have their advantages and disadvantages. They must be tied up and a number of activities are carried out to form the bush. At the same time, such tomatoes produce a larger harvest, which is distinguished by the gradual ripening of the fruit.

With a lack of moisture, rapid ripening of the set fruits begins. When experiencing stress, the plant tries to reproduce seeds faster and gets rid of reproductive parts that absorb nutrients. The plant sheds flowers and formed ovaries en masse.

Features of cultivation and care

The rules of care are quite standard. Here's a quick rundown of basic techniques for caring for plants with unlimited growth.

  1. Tomatoes are heat-loving plants and in most cases are grown in seedlings. For short growing seasons, seeds are sown for seedlings in mid-March.
  2. Seedlings emerge with the appearance of 2 permanent leaves in separate containers or boxes, with a planting pattern of 10x10 cm.
  3. Care comes down to timely watering, fertilizing and observing temperature and light conditions. All these measures will allow you to grow strong and healthy seedlings suitable for early planting in a greenhouse.
  4. Tomatoes are planted in a permanent place in mid-May, at 60 days of age. Planting density is no more than 3 bushes per square meter. Plants are tied to stakes, trellises or garden netting, providing support to the main stem.
  5. In large-fruited, tall tomatoes, the plant is formed into one stem. Remove shoots and dying leaves on the lower part of the plant, up to the first cluster. This promotes increased air circulation, preventing the possibility of fungal diseases.
  6. After the formation of 6-8 brushes, the growth of the bush is limited by cutting the shoot at the top point, through three leaves above the ovary. The stepsons growing from the axils of the leaves are regularly removed, leaving a stump of 3-4 cm.
  7. Watering should be moderate, followed by loosening the top layer. Loosening prevents the soil from drying out and improves air exchange. The stem is covered with earth to improve nutrition of the roots located at the base.
  8. The optimal temperature should be 24-26 degrees. It is advisable to maintain humidity no higher than 70%. This is achieved by regular ventilation. It is important to maintain the humidity level during the period of mass flowering.
  9. Tomatoes are fertilized once every three weeks, selecting the composition of the fertilizer depending on the condition of the plants and the stage of development.

Harvesting begins at the end of July and continues until the end of the growing season. Up to 5-6 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one plant. Green fruits ripen well at home.

Agricultural technology: basic rules

Hybrid tomatoes are sown from treated seeds, so seedlings and adult plants are resistant to negative factors. Caring for the crop is simple and requires compliance with several rules.

  • The method of growing tomatoes is seedlings. Seeds are sown to a depth of 2 cm. Shoots should appear in 9-10 days.
  • After the appearance of 2-3 leaves, picking is carried out. The seedlings are ready for planting after 50 days from sowing.
  • The soil needs to be fertile and light.
  • For planting, a 70x45 pattern is used.
  • Standard loosening of the soil.
  • When planting in the garden, you need to think about watering the plant.
  • The temperature in the greenhouse must be maintained above 15 degrees, but not more than 30.

Attention! The stems will grow tall; they must be tied up, as they may break if the fruits are large.

Tomato variety Brandy pink

The “Vkusnoteka” series, well known to vegetable growers, boasts varieties of tomatoes for every taste: from real, rich tomato, to dessert, even fruit. One of the popular tomatoes in this series is called Brandy Pink. It is famous for its juicy and sweet fruits. Our hero was registered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2015. Its applicant and originator is Agrofirm Poisk LLC. The variety is approved for cultivation in all regions of the country. Recommended for film shelters on private farms. In the southern regions, you can grow tomatoes in open ground. Our hero is not a hybrid. Presumably, it is one of the descendants of the famous American variety Brandywine.

Description

The plant is indeterminate, but growth basically stops at a height of 150 - 160 cm. The stem is strong, shoot formation and foliage are moderate. The leaves are small, potato-type, slightly wrinkled, green. A simple inflorescence consists of large flowers. Fruit clusters, formed after the 9th leaf, mainly contain 3 - 4 ovaries. Pedicel with articulation.

The fruits of the variety are flat-round, medium-ribbed, and of medium density. An unripe tomato is light green, with a dark spot at the stalk. When ripe, it becomes pink, although, according to some gardeners, the color saturation is insufficient. The pulp is tender, very fleshy, juicy, but not watery, multi-chambered - there are 6 or more seed nests. The taste of Pink Brandy is excellent, the flesh is sweetish and aromatic. Thanks to its excellent taste, this tomato is called the Salad Miracle. The tomatoes are large. The originators promise copies weighing 250 - 450 grams. True, the State Register recorded the mass at 100 - 150 grams. According to reviews from vegetable growers, the largest fruits ripen in the first and middle clusters; on those that are higher, tomatoes tend to become smaller.

Characteristics

  • The variety is classified as mid-season. From the moment of the appearance of full shoots until the start of fruiting, 115 - 120 days pass. If you count from planting seedlings, then maturation occurs on 88 - 93 days;
  • the yield of marketable fruits, according to the State Register, is 6.6 kg per 1 square meter;
  • Tomato ripening in bunches occurs slowly. The harvest period is from July to August;
  • despite the large fruit, the crop is resistant to fruit cracking, of course, if you keep soil moisture under control;

  • immunity is not mentioned in the State Register. Other sources describe the variety as resistant to Alternaria leaf spot, cladosporiosis, and tobacco mosaic virus. Vegetable growers confirm the good health of the crop, but note that our hero can still fall ill with cladosporiosis, albeit one of the last;
  • Tomato adaptability is quite high. According to observations, the plant is quite cold-resistant and does not stop the formation of the ovary in the heat;
  • The transportability of Brandy Rose fruits is insufficient. The pulp does not withstand long-term transportation and wrinkles;
  • keeping quality is also low; during long-term storage, insufficiently dense pulp ceases to hold its shape and becomes too soft;
  • method of use is universal. Ripe tomatoes are ideal in their natural form and are used for making salads. Suitable for processing into tomato products - juices, sauces, pastes. Small fruits can be pickled and canned.

Agricultural technology

The originators advise sowing seeds for seedlings in the second ten days of March. Picking is carried out in the phase of 2 true leaves. Transplantation to a permanent place is carried out at the age of two months. The recommended planting density is 3 - 4 bushes per 1 square meter. A garter on a trellis and pinching is required. Form a plant with 1 - 2 stems. Agricultural technology is common for the crop as a whole. Tomatoes need to be watered, fertilized and the soil kept clean.

Brandy pink is a rather controversial variety. Many admire him, but some are disappointed by him. Perhaps it's all due to re-grading. Among the positive aspects, I would like to note the excellent taste (it’s not for nothing that the variety is included in the “Vkusnoteka” series), large-fruitedness and resistance to cracking, thanks to which the harvest’s marketable appearance is preserved. The plant is relatively unpretentious, but preventive treatments should not be neglected. When grown in a greenhouse, many gardeners remain dissatisfied with the insufficient height of the plant, because quite a lot of volume is lost, which could be filled by taller specimens. In addition, the crop is not transportable and cannot be stored. But if you like the tomato, you can always collect the seeds yourself.

Description of the hybrid

The tomato belongs to the indeterminate varieties; with proper agricultural technology, its stem reaches 180 cm.

Attention! The hybrid is intended for greenhouses, shelters under film.

In terms of ripening time, the tomato is mid-season and bears fruit for a long time. In a greenhouse you can collect up to 25 kg per m2. During selection, attention was paid to yield, crop resistance to bronzing virus, tomato mosaic virus, root-knot nematodes, and other diseases. Find out from this article how to protect your crops from diseases.

How are the fruits different?

  1. Tomatoes of this type are fleshy, with a small number of seeds.
  2. There is a combination of sour and sweet in the taste of tomatoes.
  3. As the photo shows, they are beautiful in color and structure.
  4. The color is deep pink.
  5. Vegetables ripen on the stem gradually, not together. This extends the harvest period.

Advice. The tomato is universal in its method of use, but it is one of the most beautiful when sliced.
