Composition and indications for use
The preparation for treating garden crops is produced in the form of an emulsion. The active substance is avermectin, which is suitable for controlling various pests of garden crops, including cucumbers.
The insecticide can be used to eliminate the following problems:
- aphids and spider mites;
- scale insects;
- mealybug;
- Colorado potato beetle;
- thrips;
- microscopic mites.
The drug can be used to eliminate a large number of pest larvae that form on cucumbers.
Safety precautions and first aid measures
Fitoverm has been assigned level 3 toxicity to humans. This implies the use of all basic personal protective measures when in contact with the substance.
Opening the ampoule is performed with gloves. And before spraying, the equipment is supplemented with a protective mask, cap (scarf), goggles and long clothing.
After treating the cucumbers, the face and exposed skin are washed with soap and rinsed with clean water.
If the solution or concentrate is spilled on the skin or drops get into the eyes, immediately wash these parts with copious amounts of water.
In case of poisoning with Fitoverm, first aid consists of taking a large amount of liquid and inducing vomiting. If this method does not bring relief and weakness and malaise remain, you should immediately contact a medical center.
How the drug works
The drug has several types of effects on pests:
- contact - particles of the drug penetrate the pest’s body through the skin and lead to the destruction of soft tissues;
- after consuming particles of a substance, once it enters the stomach, it disintegrates into small particles and leads to death.
After spraying, the drug sticks to the paws of pests and is transferred to the area where insects accumulate, which increases the result of application.
Active ingredient, principle of action
Fitoverm is a preparation of biological origin, created on the basis of avermectins produced by the fungus Streptomyces avermitilis. These substances are neurotoxic poisons that have antibacterial, acaricidal and insecticidal effects that destroy nematodes. A synthetic analogue was obtained in 1984.
Avermectins have a dual effect on pests:
- To a greater extent, it is a contact poison, which has shown maximum effectiveness in the fight against larvae and insects with soft or thin integuments;
- damage through the intestinal system (the entry of a toxic substance into the body along with food) is somewhat less pronounced.
In addition to being less toxic, biological products differ from pesticides in the duration of their effect on pests. They begin to act 2-24 hours after ingestion or on the surface. Insects do not die immediately, but 1-3 days after treatment.
Important! In cases where emergency measures are needed, for example, during a locust invasion, Fitoverm is ineffective. Once it takes effect, there will be nothing left to save.
The drug works better at high temperatures. If we take 20 °C as a base value for comparison:
- when reduced to 15 °C, the effectiveness of Fitoverm decreases threefold;
- the susceptibility of pests to poison at 25 ° C increases by one and a half times;
- The effect of avermectins at 30 °C increases approximately 8 times.
The importance of Fitoverm for the southern regions is difficult to overestimate. Especially when you consider that most chemicals at high temperatures become ineffective or stop working altogether.
Advantages and disadvantages of using cucumber plantings
The use of a preparation such as Fitoverm has the following advantages for processing cucumbers:
- the substance belongs to biological agents;
- does not affect the development of the plant during any growing season;
- does not reduce efficiency even when used in hot weather conditions;
- dissolves quickly and does not cause difficulties during application;
- the price is affordable.

Flaws:
- the substance does not stick to the plant, so it is washed off very quickly with water;
- not suitable for combating larvae.
The insecticide can be used frequently, which does not affect the plant and the taste of cucumbers.
Reviews
Liliya Petrovna, 40 years old, Moscow region
Every year I grow cucumbers at my summer cottage. There hasn't been a single year when I haven't had to save plants from an invasion of thrips and aphids. Last year, a neighbor recommended spraying with Fitoverm. I carry out the treatment twice a season. Tip: add liquid fertilizer to the solution so you don’t have to do the same job twice. After using the insecticide, the insects disappear on the second day. Fitoverm instructions for use for cucumbers, reviews will tell you how to dilute and use the drug.
Mikhail Ruslanovich, 60 years old, Krasnodar Territory
I was always opposed to chemical preparations for treating plants against pests, until I learned about Fitoverm. My daughter said that it is made with biologically active substances that do not accumulate in fruits and quickly decompose in the atmosphere. For one hundred square meters of cucumbers I use 10 liters of the prepared solution. If pests attack plants during fruiting, I use garlic infusion. It’s easy to prepare: take 150 grams of garlic and grate it. Pour the resulting garlic pulp with ten liters of warm water and leave to steep for a day. After a day, strain the infusion, pour into a sprayer and generously treat the affected vegetable crops.
Instructions
The drug is used depending on the type of problem in cucumber beds. Correct dosage reduces the likelihood of pests reappearing. Processing is carried out once every 7-10 days.
How to breed correctly
To prepare a solution for spraying, you must perform the following steps:
- Add the required amount of insecticide to a liter of water and stir;
- the resulting solution is mixed with 900 grams of warm water and left for 10-15 minutes to completely dissolve the active component.
After which the prepared liquid is poured into a spray bottle for further use.
Important. The substance in the form of a prepared solution cannot be stored. Consumption of vegetables after processing is allowed after two days.
Optimal dosage
The drug must be diluted according to the following scheme:
Pest type | Dosage | Spraying |
Thrips | 4 mg diluted in 0.4 liters of water | Apply every 7 days; complete removal requires at least 4 procedures |
Aphid | 2 ml of substance per 0.250 liter of water | Used every 10 days. At least 2 spraying procedures |
Spider mite | 7 ml per liter of water | Every 10 days |
The most commonly used dosage is 2 ml per liter of warm water. It is also recommended to add a teaspoon of liquid soap for better adhesion to the plant.
Technology for treating bushes with Fitoverm
To process cucumbers, you must use a spray bottle with fine pollination. The spraying procedure is carried out after sunset. If it rains, spraying is done again.
In the greenhouse
In greenhouses, spraying is carried out in protective clothing. The presence of children or pets is unacceptable; after the crop treatment procedure, the greenhouse must be ventilated.
In the open ground
The product is poured into a spray container and sprayed onto each bush, while the leaves and shoots must be carefully treated on both sides, lifting them from the ground. Do not use the product near beehives and bodies of water.

Solutions for pest control of cucumbers
The correct dosage of Fitoverm helps to quickly get rid of and reduce the likelihood of pests appearing after treatment. You can achieve a good result only by following the instructions. Exceeding the dosage will lead to burns on the tops, and weak solutions will not give the desired effect. Recipes for mixtures for killing various pests and preventive spraying of cucumbers are different.
Attention!
To prepare working mixtures, you need to take clean, settled, sun-heated water (+15–30°C).
Different manufacturers produce the drug in ampoules of 2, 4 and 5 ml, as well as in bottles of 20 ml (aversectin C concentration 2 g/l). The process of preparing the solution depends on the recipe, but you need to follow one principle - add Fitoverm to half the recommended dose of water, mix thoroughly, bring the liquid to the maximum volume and use immediately. We describe the dosages and frequency of spraying in the table.
Pest | Amount of drug in ml per 1 liter of water (cucumbers in closed/open ground) | Mixture consumption rate in closed/open ground (l/100m²) | Treatments (number/interval between them in days) |
Aphid | 4–8/2–3 | 10/5 | 2–4/20 |
Thrips | 10/4 | 10/5 | 2–4/15 |
Spider mite | 10/4 | 10/5 | 2–4/20 |
For better adhesion, you can add tsp to the solution. liquid soap without dyes and fragrances. To treat cucumber seedlings against spider mites, you need to dilute 2 ml of Fitoverm in 200 ml of water. To prevent pests, 2 ml of the drug per 1 liter of water is enough; in total, 4–5 treatments should be carried out per season. Working solutions against any pests cannot be stored even in tightly closed containers.
When using Fitoverm with other preparations, it is better to alternate treatments, spray cucumbers with one insecticide on the first day, and replace it with another on the next day. To determine the compatibility of different products, they need to be mixed in a glass, transparent container and left for a couple of hours. The appearance of even a light, barely noticeable sediment at the bottom of the container will be a signal that the drugs cannot be mixed or alternated.

Compatibility of Fitoverma with other drugs
The drug is used in conjunction with other types of substances for the treatment of cucumbers and other crops. The use of several drugs is carried out according to the scheme - on the first day the crop is treated with one insecticide, the next day with another substance. To determine the compatibility of insecticides, it is necessary to mix the drugs in equal proportions in a glass container and leave for several hours. When sediment forms, insecticides are incompatible.
Purpose of the drug Fitoverm
The IV generation systemic drug Fitoverm is of biological origin and is both an insecticide and an acaricide. Its effect extends to 20 species of insects:
- Colorado potato beetle;
- aphids of all kinds;
- caterpillars;
- leaf roller;
- mealybugs;
- thrips;
- codling moth;
- scoop;
- various harmful butterflies, moths.
Fitoverm destroys spider mites and other mites that parasitize plants. It is very difficult to remove these arthropods from the site.
In the first case, the insecticidal effect of the drug is manifested, in the second - acaricidal.
The use of Fitoverm is possible on any garden, vegetable, ornamental, and indoor plants. Usually next to the name there is the abbreviation EC, indicating that the drug is an emulsion concentrate. There are several varieties of it:
Name | Description |
Fitoverm M | pesticide with insecticidal and acaricidal action for plants in open and closed ground |
Fitoverm Forte | has a stronger effect |
Fitoverm | acts better than other drugs in the group against ticks |
Fitoverm P | highly specialized, destroys nematodes, available in powder |
All drugs, except the last one, are produced in the form of an emulsion concentrate (EC):
- the most common packaging is 2 ml ampoules, sometimes 4 and 5 ml;
- bottles with a capacity of up to 400 ml;
- For farms and agricultural enterprises, 5 liter canisters are recommended.
Efficiency of fitoverm for cucumbers
Fitoverm for cucumbers is a remedy against mites and pests that can attack plants. Insects can be different: Colorado potato beetles, cabbage white moths, cutworms, also cabbage moths, spider mites, codling moths. The drug is produced in ampoules from 2 to 5 ml, sometimes there are bottles containing 20 ml. Belongs to hazard class 3-4.
Efficiency of fitoverm for cucumbers
Uniqueness of the product
Fitoverm is known among gardeners due to its positive qualities and effect on pests. Features of the drug:
- Fitoverm acts on insects both intestinal and contact: the medicine enters the insect’s body through its outer integument at the time of spraying or intestinal way, when the pest eats a leaf sprayed with the drug. The drug acts on the nervous system and causes instant paralysis and then death.
- VNII tested the drug and gave the result - plant protection is 95%. Fitoverm is an effective drug that copes well with ticks and pests that attack trees, bushes and plants.
- The drug does not poison the soil or the environment; when it gets into the ground, it quickly dissolves in it, and is effective even in hot weather.
- 7 hours after treatment, the product begins to act if the cucumbers are in a greenhouse or at home, in open ground after 10 hours.
- The protection of such a product lasts for 15-19 days from the moment of treatment in open soil; it is also necessary to take into account weather conditions. If it rains for several days in a row, the product works for 10 days.
- Mixing with other substances is strictly prohibited.
Signs of fruit damage
The main signs of spider mite infestation of cucumbers include the following:
- formation of light spots on the leaves. If the parasite remains on the plant for a long time, a large number of spots also appear on the back side of the leaf blades;
- the plant is entwined with an almost invisible web;
- the growth of vegetable crops slows down;
- the leaves begin to turn yellow quickly;
- the base of the plant begins to wither and dry out;
It is extremely important to detect spider mites as early as possible, which will allow you to quickly cure the plant and avoid its death from infection with the parasite.
Harm and danger of mites for cucumbers
In order to identify the causative agent of cucumber damage at an early stage, you need to check the inside of the leaf daily. With a large greenhouse area, this process is extremely difficult and even impossible. This is why a tick is discovered only after it has multiplied and a web has appeared. Weak bushes at this stage can rarely be saved.
How do mites infect greenery?
When settling on the underside of a leaf, the pest pierces it and sucks out the juice. The plant becomes exhausted, dries, turns yellow and dies.
Another danger lies in the rate of reproduction. The mite infects all the bushes in a short time, forming a web between the stems that repels water well. As a result, chemical treatment sometimes does not give the desired effect.
Female ticks lay up to 400 eggs at a time. There can be from 15-20 such cycles per year. The optimal temperature for reproduction is from +23 to +33 degrees.
Prevention
Preventive measures should be carried out both after the main therapy and before planting. It is important to pay attention not only to the soil and plants, but also to the greenhouse itself. What to do to prevent the appearance of spider mites?
- Treat the soil before planting cucumbers.
- Follow the rules of crop rotation.
- Plant seeds 0.5 meters apart.
- Regularly inspect the bushes for pests and early signs of disease.
- Maintain optimal humidity in the greenhouse - 85% or higher. Water the cucumbers weekly with warm water.
- Enrich the soil with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers.
- Ventilate greenhouses regularly.
- On dry days, spray the bushes as often as possible during the day.
- In the spring, be sure to disinfect the greenhouse. Treat supporting structures with laundry soap or bleach. Dig the soil to a depth of 20 cm and fill it with boiling water. Then cover the soil with film and leave for 3 days. After removing the film, fill the soil with a 1% solution of potassium permanganate.
The nuances of treating cucumbers with Fitoverm against spider mites
Treatment of cucumbers and other vegetable and garden crops with Fitoverm is carried out leaf by leaf, so that the product covers the upper and lower parts of the leaf plate, where pests can parasitize. For high efficiency, the area is treated twice per season, more often if necessary.
For cucumbers and other vegetable crops, strong solutions are always prepared, as indicated above; the frequency of treatment is also more frequent than for an orchard. If mites, aphids, or other pests are detected, treatment is carried out at least 2 times at intervals of 14-20 days. In greenhouses and greenhouses, Fitoverm for cucumbers against spider mites is used up to 4 times. When damaged by pests, pour up to 1.6 liters of solution onto one plant. The drug is addictive, so after 4 treatments, the drug is changed to another.
Fitoverm is produced in different volumes, so when processing plants, be sure to study the instructions and follow the instructions on the packaging.
For cucumbers, preventive spraying is justified when pests are found on neighboring plants. It is better to carry out the treatment during the flowering and growing season before the active reproduction of pests. Then during the fruiting period there will be no need for chemicals.
How to treat plants - instructions for use
Usually, the crop can be harvested soon after spraying; you only need to wait 2-3 days. This is due to the fact that Fitoverm is not phytotoxic. The drug is recommended to be used after the onset of heat, while its effectiveness increases (air temperature above +18°C)
It is important to use the prepared solution on the same day, as in the future it will lose its properties. If you plan to treat the area with Fitoverm against ticks, study the instructions for use:
- Prepare a solution in accordance with the above recommendations (taking into account the type of parasite and plant).
- The substance is poured into a spray container (if possible, it is better to prepare the solution directly in it).
Move on to insectoacaricide treatment
Moreover, to destroy spider mites, it is important not only to spray over the upper side of the leaves, but also to ensure that the product gets on the back side. This is difficult to implement manually
However, there are sprayer models that provide the ability to perform double-sided treatment of plant leaves. After a few days, the procedure is repeated.

Currant | Recommended dosage per 1 liter of water: 1.5-2 ml, and the solution is used to destroy leaf rollers, ticks, and moths | 2-3 |
Gooseberry | 1.5 ml/1 l (moth moths, leaf rollers) | 2 |
Strawberry | 2 ml/1 l of liquid, in this way they destroy spider mites | 2 |
Processing of flower crops
Such plants are less demanding. Often the same scheme is used for different types of flowers. You can find out how to use Fitoverm correctly by studying the table.
Plant name | Processing Features | Frequency of application |
Violet | 2 ml/1 l | 3 |
Orchid Chrysanthemum Roses Pointessia | Different regimens: 2 ml/1 l for ticks; 2 ml per 0.2 l for aphids; 4 ml/0.5 l when thrips appear | 3 |
When it is necessary to use an insectoacaricidal preparation, it is important to consider the air temperature sufficient to prepare the solution, as well as the type of parasite and plant that will be treated. There are other subtleties of the plant treatment process

When should Fitoverm treatment be carried out - timing of work
Things to remember:
- avermectins are quickly destroyed by sun and moisture;
- the decay period on the soil surface is a day, on plants – no more than 72 hours;
- half-life in water and soil is 1-7 days;
- the drug has low toxicity for bees; after evening treatment it becomes absolutely safe every other day.
The poison remains in the bodies of insects and ticks for 7-20 days. Even if they survive, they become less voracious and their ability to reproduce decreases.
The drug is safe for plants (non-phytotoxic) and does not accumulate in their organs. After spraying, the fruits can be collected and eaten after 48 hours.
You can spray vegetable and fruit plants with this preparation from the first appearance of pests on crops. The soil can be treated against pests after the harvest, when all the tops have been collected, and also in the spring before plants are planted in the beds and young leaves appear on the fruit trees.
Spraying of vegetable and fruit crops with Fitoverm should be carried out in a dry, windless time (preferably before 10 am or after 18 pm). Leaf blades are sprayed on both sides. The best temperature when spraying is 14-20 degrees Celsius. Treatment cannot be carried out against the wind. The drug begins to act after part of the day in greenhouse conditions, and in garden beds – from 1/3 to a day.
