Varieties of early and ultra-early white cabbage
Like other vegetable crops, cabbage varieties are divided into three large groups, related to the timing of crop ripening. In accordance with this, there are early, middle and late ripening cabbage. Vegetables with medium and late ripening periods are excellent for storage and processing (pickling, pickling, canning), but early cabbage is usually consumed in the form of fresh salads, added to summer stews and other seasonal dishes. Early ripening varieties have their own characteristics; this cabbage has both strengths and weaknesses.
The best varieties of early cabbage will be listed in this article; reviews from gardeners about this crop are also given here, and the rules for growing it are described.
Characteristics and types of white vegetables
Early ripening cabbage has a very short ripening time - 90-110 days after planting the seeds, young heads of cabbage can already be cut. Most varieties will ripen in the first half of July. A feature of early varieties is the looser structure of the head of cabbage: the leaves of such cabbage are tender and juicy, and the core is dense and hard.
Crispy fresh cabbage is good for a summer salad, rich in vitamins and minerals. But the fragile watery leaves cannot be pickled or pickled; the heads of such a vegetable do not last long and quickly lose their attractive appearance.
There are not as many varieties of early cabbage as varieties with middle and late ripening periods (after all, these crops are more popular in the middle zone). The most popular names of early ripening varieties and hybrids in Russia will be given below.
Rinda F1
The early hybrid is intended for cultivation in southern regions and in temperate climate zones. Heads of cabbage grow to medium size. Rinda's leaves are large, spreading, and colored in a light green shade. The taste of this crop is very good.
Unlike most other early varieties, this cabbage can be stored for up to four months. But for this it is necessary to create suitable conditions: a temperature of +8 degrees and constant moderate humidity.
In regions with very warm climates, Rinda is grown twice a year, repeating the sowing of seeds immediately after the first harvest. Gardeners love this variety for its unpretentiousness and resistance to cool spring temperatures.
Tobia F1
This early hybrid is characterized by very high yields - for those who grow vegetables for sale, a better variety simply cannot be found! The cabbage heads are large and approximately the same - the weight of each head is about 3.5 kg.
Tobia is not prone to over-ripening, its heads do not crack, and its leaves do not lose their crispness and taste. The taste characteristics of the hybrid are good. Tobia's heads are smooth, leveled, and shiny.
The structure of the head is dense, the inside of the cabbage has a yellowish-white tint, and the outside of the head is bright green. Hybrid cabbage can be stored, but not for long - about two months.
Cossack F1
An ultra-early variety that produces the first harvests within 40-45 days after planting the seedlings in the ground. This cabbage is very tasty, has a creamy white interior and a dense head structure. The vegetable heads are colored light green and are of medium size - approximately 1500 grams. The variety is resistant to cracking and overripening.
It is recommended to grow Cossack in open ground or under temporary film covers. Cabbage tolerates low temperatures well and practically does not get sick.
Taurus F1
Full ripening of this hybrid occurs on the 95-100th day after sowing the seeds for seedlings. Taurus heads can be cut as early as mid-July.
The hybrid early variety is considered one of the most productive. It's all about the size of the heads of cabbage - their weight often reaches five to six kilograms. This cabbage has several other significant advantages: the variety is very resistant to drought and is immune to most “cabbage” diseases.
June
In Russia it is difficult to find a dacha where June cabbage has not been grown at least once. This early variety is very popular among domestic gardeners, because it is zoned specifically for temperate climates.
The taste of the early culture is very good: the structure of the head of cabbage is dense, the leaves are tender and juicy, the taste is soft and pleasant. Juneteenth cabbage is great in salads and appetizers, and its delicate flavor pairs well with other vegetables in stews.
The heads of this vegetable variety are medium - they weigh 2-3 kilograms, which allows the vegetable to be used sparingly in fresh salads. The ripening of the heads, as you might guess from the name of the variety, occurs in June.
The variety is suitable for growing in open ground and under temporary film shelters.
Express F1
Super early cabbage, which appeared quite recently, but has already won the love of domestic gardeners and summer residents. From the moment the seedlings are planted in the ground until the vegetable fully ripens, only 40-45 days pass (the total growing season is about 90 days).
The variety is high-yielding and has excellent taste characteristics. The heads of cabbage are round, light green, and light in weight (on average, 1300 grams). Once harvested, cabbage can be stored for up to four months if suitable conditions are provided.
Polar region F1
There are also the best varieties of early cabbage, specially designed for growing in the most difficult climatic conditions. An excellent example of such cabbage is the Arctic hybrid.
The ripening period is very short - the harvest can be harvested within 45 days after planting the seedlings in the soil. The hybrid tolerates low temperatures well, but loves light and moisture - this must be taken into account.
The leaf rosettes of the crop are compact - the diameter is only 50 cm. The heads are also medium-sized - weighing 1-1.6 kg. The heads of cabbage are round, beautiful, and not prone to cracking (shown in the photo).
Surprise F1
Dutch hybrid with very early ripening time - 95-100 days from the moment of sowing the seeds. The heads of cabbage are round, leveled, and light green in color.
The tasting rating of the variety is 4.5 points. Cabbage is very tasty fresh. When cut, the head of cabbage is greenish-white in color and dense. The average weight of the heads is 1300 grams. The variety is resistant to cracking.
Nozomi "R. ABOUT."
The earliest, or one of the earliest, is Nozomi cabbage. After planting the seedlings in the ground, only 43-45 days pass until full maturity. The hybrid variety is very productive.
The heads of cabbage resemble a ball, round and even. The average weight of cabbage is 2 kg. Its structure is dense, the heads do not crack, and they tolerate transportation and storage well.
Gardeners love this variety for its amazing durability: the seedlings are not afraid of return frosts, tolerate waterlogging of the soil well, do not suffer from fungal and putrefactive infections, and are immune to blackleg.
Zolotovorotskaya
Another early variety that allows harvesting already on the 55th day after planting the seedlings.
Cabbage produces compact rosettes, its heads are elastic, round, weighing about two kilograms. The heads are painted a soft green color and have an excellent taste. The variety is resistant to cracking and blooming.
Zolotovorotskaya is used mainly for preparing summer salads.
Zantorino F1
The fruit of the labor of Dutch breeders is the early Zantorino variety. Full ripening occurs 95-100 days after sowing the seeds in the soil.
The heads of cabbage are spherical, even and smooth, painted in a light green shade. The structure of the cabbage is of medium density, the heads of cabbage do not crack. Heads of cabbage grow up to 1.7-2.1 kg and have an excellent taste.
The hybrid is intended for fresh consumption. They begin to cut off the heads from the last days of June.
Parel F1
The Dutch created a high-yielding hybrid with very early ripening. Only 52 days pass from the moment the seedlings are planted, and the cabbage can be cut for fresh consumption.
The heads of cabbage are medium-sized (up to one and a half kilograms), colored light green, greenish-white when cut. The structure of the heads is dense, they do not crack, and tolerate transportation well.
Parel's taste is very good - tasters rate it five points. The culture of this variety is recommended for cultivation in open ground and in greenhouses.
Golden Hectare
Very productive early cabbage, ripening 110 days after planting. The heads ripen together and weigh about three kilograms. The taste of the variety is good.
The early-ripening crop loves warmth, light and moisture, and can tolerate low temperatures and light frosts.
An early ripening variety, it enters the technical maturity phase by the 100th day after planting. The heads of cabbage grow on a high stem, have a round shape and compact size.
The average weight of Dita's heads is only one kilogram. The heads of cabbage are resistant to cracking, transport well, and can be stored for a couple of months.
Ditmarskaya early
Early variety - about 65 days from the moment the seedlings are transferred to the ground. The heads of cabbage are round, even, their average weight is 1.5-2 kg. When overripe, cabbage can crack, so you need to harvest Ditmarskaya in a timely manner. The vegetable crop is intended for preparing fresh salads; it is often grown for sale in late June - early July.
Review
Conclusion
Today there are many varieties of cabbage: Chinese, Peking, Brussels sprouts or broccoli, but the most popular is still the ordinary white cabbage crop.
Early varieties of cabbage ripen at the beginning of summer, allowing you to quickly saturate the body with fresh vitamins and beneficial minerals. It is not possible to store early ripe heads of cabbage for a long time; they are not pickled or fermented, but such cabbage makes very appetizing fresh salads and aromatic stews.

Description of cabbage variety Kilaton F1
Most cabbage varieties are vulnerable to clubroot disease. Clubroot is the “Achilles heel” of almost any cabbage variety. And today I would like to provide a description of the amazing hybrid variety Kilaton F1, which has good immunity, in particular, protecting against clubroot disease. Also, in the article you will find a photo of a white cabbage hybrid and reviews of summer residents who became acquainted with this cabbage.
Description of the variety
Cabbage Kilaton F1 is a late-ripening hybrid. The complete vegetation of the plant lasts 130-140 days.
The head of Kilaton is round-flat in shape, dense in structure, and green in color. The color lasts for a long period of time, even after prolonged storage in the cellar. The surface of the “head” and leaves is covered with an intense waxy coating. When cut, the head of cabbage is white or white-yellow. The average weight of commercial cabbage reaches 3-4 kg. The inner and outer stumps are very short.
Hybrid Kilaton F1 is recommended for fresh consumption and for fermentation. The taste is excellent. Also, the variety has high shelf life. Under favorable conditions, cabbage can be stored for up to 8 months.
Productivity is high, up to 11 kg per 1 m2.
The main advantage of the hybrid is good immunity. Cabbage is protected from most diseases of this crop. Kilaton is not afraid of keel and internal punctate necrosis. Also, it is not afraid of frost.
It is worth noting that the hybrid is demanding on soil fertility and needs frequent and abundant watering. Also, the plant develops very poorly without the proper amount of sunlight.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Kilaton is not the most popular hybrid, but nevertheless, those who have become acquainted with it note a number of its advantages, thanks to which they continue to cultivate this vegetable in their area. In particular, the main positive aspects of this cabbage include:
- It has excellent immunity, thanks to which this hybrid practically does not get sick. In particular, it is worth noting the high protection against carina and internal punctate necrosis.
- Kilaton is considered a rather tasty cabbage.
- Has high keeping quality. Heads of cabbage can be stored for up to 7-8 months.
- The cabbage “heads” are aligned and dense in structure.
- The vegetable is universal. Suitable for both fermentation and fresh consumption, in salads, borscht, etc.
At the same time, it is worth noting some disadvantages of the Kilaton F1. In particular:
- This variety is very demanding in terms of watering. Without frequent and abundant watering, you will not be able to get a good harvest.
- The culture develops very poorly with a lack of sunlight.
- The hybrid is picky about soil type. It does not grow well in heavy and unfertilized soil.
Hybrid care
All care for the Kilaton hybrid consists of:
Watering and fertilizing
Timely irrigation and fertilization of the white cabbage hybrid affects not only its taste, but also how long the crop will be stored.
Water the vegetable only with warm water, the temperature of which is between 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you water a plant with cold water from a well, the risk of developing fungal and bacterial diseases increases.
Water the cabbage often, but without fanaticism. Watering should keep the soil moist without forming a “swamp.”
In hot weather, the vegetable is watered twice a day, the first time in the morning, when the sun is not active, and the second time in the evening, when the sun goes below the horizon.
To prevent the heads of cabbage from cracking and rotting during storage, watering is stopped 15-20 days before the planned harvest.
For normal development of the crop, it must be fertilized periodically. To do this, it is enough to fertilize with liquid organic matter once every 2-3 weeks.
Weeding, loosening and hilling
Weeds have a depressing effect on crops. For this reason, it is necessary to immediately remove weeds that appear on the site.
It is also important to loosen the soil after watering. Water compresses the soil, preventing oxygen from reaching the roots of the plant.
Timely hilling is also necessary. In the case of Kilaton, hilling does not play a special role, since the outer leg is quite short and the plant is squat, which is why it does not fall on its side when forming a large head of cabbage. However, you still need to hill the cabbage once a season.
Harvesting and storage
Cabbage is harvested immediately after the first frost. As soon as the temperature drops below -2 degrees Celsius at night, you immediately need to collect the “heads” and move them to the cellar. If you keep the heads of cabbage in the cold, their shelf life will decrease significantly due to rotting of the upper outer leaves.
Ideal storage conditions are a cold cellar with an air temperature within 0..+2 degrees Celsius. In such conditions, the Kilaton F1 hybrid can last up to 8 months without losing its commercial qualities.
Reviews from gardeners
Vladimir Ivanovich, Sumy, 54 years old.
In 2016, I purchased the seeds of white cabbage Kilaton f1. In addition, I also purchased another hybrid, Aggressor f1. I bought Kilaton on purpose because last year my harvest collided with clubroot, so I was afraid that it might happen again this year. I planted both hybrids almost at the end of May. In the area where I planted cabbage, tomatoes grew for 2 years. Aggressor is a very good cabbage, tasty, suitable for both pickling and fresh consumption. But with keeping quality, she really let me down. It lay in the cellar until mid-March, and then the heads began to burst and sprout. But Kilaton made me happy. The shelf life is much longer. During storage it did not crack, there were no signs of rot, and it did not sprouted. It lasted until the summer and looks almost the same as just from the garden. Kilaton's head of cabbage is dense and heavy. If we talk about taste, then Aggressor is a softer cabbage. Since then I have been growing Kylaton for long-term storage.
Victoria Olegovna, Kyiv, 39 years old.
We have been growing Kylaton F1 for quite some time. On average, heads of cabbage grow up to 4 kg, with a planting density of 4 pieces. per 1m2. I hardly take care of cabbage; I don’t particularly like to fuss around in the garden. I have never hilled up or loosened the soil. We water, yes, it is, but my husband throws the tapes, they water themselves. We treated it for pests once, which I can’t say, but again, my husband did everything. But nevertheless the harvest was excellent. The cabbage is a bit rough, but we did not expect such softness as from the early varieties. But it stayed there until the summer and didn’t even rot. We also always make a little fermentation. We fermented Moscow late and Kilaton, the first one will be tastier, but now we don’t grow it yet.
Mid-season cabbage varieties of Dutch selection
This type of Dutch cabbage is a great option between early and late varieties. These varieties are suitable for both pickling and fresh consumption. The leaves are thicker and crispier.

Good varieties of white cabbage
White cabbage is a staple vegetable along with potatoes. Choosing varieties suitable for growing in open ground is not a problem - many varieties and hybrids are zoned for the Far Eastern climate zone. When choosing a variety, it is important to understand the ripening time, taste and area of application of cabbage heads.
The most popular is the division of varieties and hybrids according to ripening periods - early, middle and late. It is always recommended that varieties of different ripening periods grow on a summer cottage, because the early ones are good in salads as fresh vitamin greens, and the later ones are good for pickling and for winter storage.
Zoned varieties of cabbage
The zoned varieties include varieties and hybrids of cabbage that: - were tested in local conditions for several years, - showed good yield results, - were slightly affected by diseases, - had beautiful, tasty fruits.
It is better to grow zoned varieties of cabbage in your gardens.
Gardeners in the Far East are lucky: in the main part of our region, soil and climatic conditions allow for growing a large number of crops, incl. and thermophilic. But on the other hand, the climate in the Far East is unpredictable: both continental and monsoon, which causes the most problems and troubles.
“Thanks to” the monsoon nature of the climate, almost all types of diseases of vegetable crops are present in large quantities in Far Eastern gardens, leading to large crop losses almost every year.
In such situations, only zoned varieties of cabbage can help out. They more successfully resist infection and extreme climatic conditions: getting wet, sudden changes in day and night temperatures, fog, dew, etc.
Early varieties of cabbage
To obtain early fresh vitamin products for the Far East, two hybrids with early ripeness are offered.
Dutch hybrid Surprise F1
. It will take about 100 days from the moment the seeds are sown for seedlings until they can be used for food. The weight of technically ready-to-eat heads of cabbage is from 1 to 1.5 kg.
Domestic hybrid Zephyr F1
. To achieve full technical readiness, 95-115 days are required from seed sowing. Forks of medium weight, up to 1.5 kg, with slightly corrugated leaves. In its natural fresh form it has an unsurpassed taste due to its juiciness and sugar content. Perfect for any purpose.

Medium cabbage varieties
The harvest of mid-early and mid-ripening varieties and hybrids reaches its marketability a little later than early-ripening samples - it will take from l00 to 130 days to obtain marketable technically finished products. Medium varieties are good for fermentation and can already be stored for long-term winter storage - up to 4-5 months.
Eaton F1
forms an excellent dense head of cabbage up to 3.5 kg. During testing, it showed excellent results in terms of yield and uniformity. Tolerates thickened plantings well. Does not crack for a long time, is slightly susceptible to fusarium and bacteriosis. Despite the fairly early stages of ripeness, it is perfectly stored.

SB F1 (SB 3)
– heterotic hybrid with medium ripening periods. It is distinguished by huge (more than 4 kg) hard heads of cabbage with light green coloring of the upper leaves, white-green inside. It has an excellent taste for both fermented and fresh products.
When planting seedlings of the hybrid SB F1, it is necessary to deepen them to the first true leaf!
Mishutka F1
– an excellent novelty of domestic scientists. The hybrid adapts well to different growing areas. The product will not disappoint either: beautifully shaped heads of cabbage, weighing up to 4 kg, with a small internal stump, excellent taste. In the beds, ripe heads of cabbage can wait for harvesting without cracking for up to 30 days. Designed for various uses: for the preparation of fermented products, hot culinary processing, do not deteriorate during long-term storage of up to 4-5 months.

Late varieties of cabbage
The most popular are mid-late, and especially late-ripening varieties and hybrids of cabbage - they are especially good for pickling, best suited for storing and year-round cooking of cabbage soup and borscht. But there are also samples for fresh vitamin salads, especially since many of the later varieties do not crack on the vine for a long time. The ripening period of late cabbage from sowing to technical ripeness is from 3 to 5 months.
Iceberg F1
produces round, large cabbage heads in a weight range of approx. 4 kg and great taste in any form. The main direction of use: fresh, fermented and stored in storage. It is distinguished by the duration of preservation of its valuable economic qualities on the vine, and does not crack. The yield in Far Eastern conditions is up to 7.5 kg per 1 sq.m.
Dovator F1
produces round heads of cabbage with an average weight of 2.7 to 3.7 kg, the leaves are large, and there is a fairly significant waxy coating. Intended mainly for preparing fresh salads and pickling. It is stored for about 5 months. When grown in beds, it suppresses weeds well.

Cabbage variety Kilaton
White cabbage Kilaton is a popular high-yielding variety that is easy to care for. The vegetable is planted in open ground from seedlings or seeds. Cabbage gets sick if it is not cared for properly, and to protect it, spraying with special solutions is used.
Cabbage variety Kilaton
Characteristics of the variety
Description of cabbage variety Kilaton:
- A late-ripening hybrid variety is planted in late spring.
- The average planting density is 35 tons per 1 hectare.
- The growing season for cabbage ranges from 130 to 135 days.
- The variety is resistant to clubroot and spot necrosis, which allows you to preserve the head of cabbage for a long period.
Description of fruits
Cabbage Kilaton f1 is distinguished by a massive head of cabbage. The weight of one vegetable is from 3 to 4 kg. The upper leaves are dark green, the lower leaves are lighter. The surface of the head of cabbage is smooth and leveled.
General description of the head of cabbage:
- round shape;
- the leaves are dense and keep their shape;
- the growing season is average.
The product is used both raw and pickled. The head of cabbage is stored for several months in a cool, dark room.
Planting and growing
Cabbage is planted in two ways: seedlings and non-seedlings. For seedlings, seeds of a certain size are selected: from 1.4 to 1.5 mm. Before planting, they are placed in warm water for half an hour. Soaking strengthens the variety to prevent infection. After this, the planting material is immersed in cold water for 2-3 minutes. At the end, the seeds are well dried.
Hybrid f1 is planted for seedlings no earlier than April. Planting material is placed in pots and left in a warm room (in a greenhouse or on a windowsill). For rapid seed germination, soil mixtures are needed. A mixture of peat, soil and sand is used (the main part of the soil is peat). The seedless method involves planting seeds directly into open ground. This planting is carried out later (closer to May), when the soil has warmed up well.
Transplanting
Seedlings must be buried down to the first leaf.
For seedlings of the f1 hybrid, pots with a depth of at least 8 cm are used. The hole for the seeds is 1-3 cm. Immediately after planting, the seeds are watered.
The first shoots appear within a week. After the green stem appears, mineral fertilizers are added to the soil (organic matter cannot be used). The seedlings are well watered.
Planting in open ground is carried out after 35-40 days. Holes are made in the soil. Each hole is watered with at least 0.5 liters of water. The seedlings are buried down to the first leaf. The optimal distance between the beds is no less than 50-70 cm. The distance between the heads of cabbage does not exceed 40-50 m.
Sprout care
According to the description, Kilaton cabbage is well fertilized at all stages of growth. The first time fertilizer is applied after the first leaf appears on the seedlings, then on the 12th day. The last time the f1 hybrid seedlings are fed is 2 days before planting in open ground. To make the variety take root faster in the garden, use homemade fertilizer.
- 3 g ammonium nitrate;
- 1 g potassium chloride;
- 4-5 g of superphosphate.
The dry mixture is diluted with 1 liter of purified water. Fertilizer is applied to the top layer of open ground. As the head of the Kilaton variety grows, the amount of active substances increases. Basic care includes watering once a week. To increase the yield, Kilaton is hilled. The soil is loosened to a soil layer of at least 8 cm. Weeds are removed throughout the growth period.
A variety with large heads of cabbage needs frequent watering. The head of cabbage is in unfavorable soils, so when planting seedlings, additional fertilizer is applied. The quality of the crop depends on the conditions.
Diseases and pests
Kilaton cabbage suffers from pests and infectious diseases. Cabbage moth appears on the head of cabbage at any period of its growth. Caterpillars or pupae appear and eat the top leaves. Moth eggs are located on the underside of leaves. The more moth growth, the more damage to the cabbage.
Cabbage aphids and flies attack young cabbage heads. Cabbage changes the color of the upper leaves, and damage forms in the root part. The size of cabbage aphids is no more than 3 mm, and they cannot be removed mechanically. The size of the fly is up to 6 mm. Slugs and snails can damage cabbage crops. Slugs make holes in the leaves and leave mucus on the green part of the head of cabbage.
