My discoveries in the garden and vegetable garden in 2022

I have already read many comments and publications about the findings of gardeners. I took note of the names of the honeycombs of flowers and vegetables that the seven-dacha residents liked. Last night I took out a box of seeds and read my “Sowing 2018” table. and chose varieties of flowers and vegetables that became a discovery of the past season for me. Over the years, I discovered many flowers and ornamental shrubs that became permanent residents in my flower beds: hostas, Siberian irises, aquilegia of various varieties, heuchera, heliotrope, spirea. Now I am constantly expanding and updating the collection of these plants. About three years ago I sowed the German cucumber for the first time in a greenhouse, now it is my “main cucumber”!.. I am also attracted by sweet peppers from the Siberian Garden, Ox’s Ear and Bogatyr. They produce an excellent harvest and the quality of the fruit is excellent. I experiment with tomatoes every year, but I constantly grow the Evpator hybrid from Gavrish, the Pink Honey variety from the Siberian Garden and the Eagle Beak variety from the Siberian Garden. The past year was difficult in terms of weather conditions: the spring was cold, summer did not begin for a long time. But the harvest was not bad, although the ripening of the fruits began two weeks later than usual.

Tomatoes
I sowed indeterminate tomatoes in February, but they began to ripen only in mid-August. Almost 180 days passed from germination to receipt of the finished product, and that’s half a year! I sow the remaining tomatoes on March 10-15. This year I was impressed by the tomatoes from the company Search Sugar and the hybrid Coral Reef , large-fruited tomatoes, sweet, aromatic, very productive. I liked the Hundred Poods tomato from . Very tasty, large-fruited (especially on the first clusters) and unusually productive. I grow tomatoes in a glass greenhouse. The greatest impression was made by the Red Red hybrid from the Ural summer resident. The fruits are large (up to 500 g) and do not become smaller until almost the end of fruiting. The very first, the early ones, began to ripen. The taste is excellent, reminiscent of the taste of tomatoes from the distant garden past! The pulp is sugary, grainy. The hybrid bears fruit abundantly even in the coldest summer and does not get sick. The fruits set and ripen cluster by cluster! An ovary forms on all flowers. Determinant type. The Ural summer resident has released a series of professional tomato seeds: Maryina Roshcha, Krasnaya Gvardiya, Krasny Krasno and Spasskaya Tower . I grew the first two hybrids in past years, but somehow they did not surprise me, unlike Red Red. Next year I will definitely sow this hybrid and also try to grow the Spasskaya Tower hybrid!

Peppers
Peppers sowed several varieties, those that have already been tested and new ones. Among the new varieties, I especially liked the Vladyka sweet pepper from the company Harvest at the Dacha and the Siberian Format from the Siberian Garden. Sweet peppers. The Siberian format is a new product of Siberian breeders.
The bush is up to 80 cm, forms up to 15 cube-shaped fruits, 12x10 cm, weighing up to 450 g. Wall thickness is 8-10 mm. The fruits have a pleasant taste, aroma, and delicate texture. You can eat without counting! very juicy and tasty! Vladyka variety is also a new variety of pepper. Medium-tall, fruits are elongated-cuboid, 18 cm in length and 14 cm in diameter. Large, sweet and with a thick wall -10 mm. Not sick. A very productive variety. I will definitely sow both varieties next season!

Herman and Courage - cucumbers for greenhouses and high yields!
I grow cucumbers in a polycarbonate greenhouse, along with peppers. I don’t plant many varieties. I sow seedlings at the end of April in peat cups. Last season I chose the hybrids Claudia, Herman and Courage. In the fall I decided that Herman F1 from Agros remains on its own and with him remains Courage F1 from the company Gavrish. I have been growing the Herman cucumber for a long time and have never been disappointed. An excellent hybrid, it begins to ripen in the first ten days of June and grows until frost. Without bitterness, does not outgrow, does not get sick, universal. Courage cucumber for the first time. Early ripening, parthenocarpic, female type of flowering, for greenhouses. In the axils, 3-5 ovaries are formed, medium-sized and medium-branched. Zelenets 12 - 15 cm, without bitterness, delicate taste and versatility. Not sick. The fruits set before frost. Very productive! All declared characteristics correspond to the obtained result.
Eggplant
I really love growing eggplants. I look after them like children. I sow seedlings in February and plant them in 0.7 liter pots. I grow it warmly on a separate windowsill, the warmest. I always plant 9 of them in a separate “greenhouse” on the 20th of May... I’ve checked a lot of hybrids. I choose the earliest ones. Last year I sowed the hybrid Valentina F1 from the agricultural company Seeds of Altai.

Eggplants begin to ripen by mid-July. Excellent taste, no bitterness, very beautiful! Fruit weight is up to 220 g. They do not get sick. They ripen until the end of summer. The productivity is very high. From 9 bushes I collected about 15 kg of fruit. Valentina will sing. All the bushes are strewn with fruits.
Flowers
I grow a lot of flowers. I have 9 flower beds, decorated according to the principle of mixborders. Perennials and ornamental shrubs form the basis of flower beds. I fill the space between them with annuals, like all gardeners. Every year I try to find a new flower or several to decorate flower beds or to solve some problem. So, last year I decided to slightly raise the height of the flower beds. I usually used kochia for these purposes, but then I found a flower called cleoma that was unfamiliar to me and decided to try it. I bought cleome seeds Tsvetnoy Fountain from the company Russian Vegetable Garden. I sowed the seedlings in early March and planted them in 0.5 liter glasses.
The seedlings are unpretentious and did not get sick. I planted clumps of 5 bushes in flowerbeds in the sunniest places. Cleome Colored fountain.
Exotic flower. Very effective in a flower garden, among shrubs. Fragrant fantastic flowers-balls fascinate with their beauty. It is not afraid of any bad weather, although I tied each bush to pegs to protect it from strong winds. Bees and butterflies did not leave the flower all summer!

Among the perennials, the botanical dwarf Urumi tulip became the discovery of the year for me . Plant height is 20 cm, blooms in early May, along with all primroses, but earlier than tall tulips.

Charming flower!
I planted 20 of them, and when they all bloomed, I couldn’t take my eyes off them! Another find is Monarda hybrida Cambridge Scarlet. Height up to 100 cm, for cutting. A fragrant flower with fantastic scarlet flower heads that gradually cling to the stem and do not lose their attractiveness for a very long time.

Monarda produces abundant rhizome growth. In the fall, I discovered a huge number of small shoots with leaves around the bush. I trimmed the bush and covered it with a bucket of dry humus. In the spring I will dig it up, wait for germination and plant this flower in sunny places in the flower beds. But I think it will be necessary to limit the growth of rhizomes, otherwise everything will quickly drag on. Spring will show!
