Fruits of incredibly huge sizes - Goliath pepper: full description of the variety

Player

Another variety of tasty and productive bell pepper.
Gardeners like the player for his unpretentiousness: he is not afraid of frost, undemanding to the soil, and resistant to diseases. The fruits ripen early - 100-150 days after sowing, and almost simultaneously. The pepper is fleshy, super thick-walled - the wall thickness reaches 9-12 mm. It tastes sweet, juicy, aromatic, which gives any vegetable salad to which it is added a touch of pleasant piquancy. The compact round shape of the fruit makes the Player variety ideal for stuffing and canning.

Description of the harvest

The seed from which Goliath peppers are grown is quite expensive. However, the cost pays off well, since as a result, vegetable growers harvest much more than from simple popular varieties. On average, up to 12 peppers can be removed from each bush.

Gardeners who grew this vegetable crop on their plots describe the resulting harvest as follows:

  1. The fruits have a cone shape, reach 6 centimeters in diameter and 14 centimeters in length.
  2. The weight of each pepper is 130-160 grams.
  3. The wall thickness is average - 7-8 millimeters, thanks to which vegetables can be stored frozen for quite a long time. In addition, the thickness of the walls allows fruits to be transported over long distances, without losing their marketable characteristics. The shelf life in nets is 14-21 days.
  4. At the stage of technical maturity, peppers are colored green. Having reached a state of biological ripeness, they acquire a bright red color with a whitish waxy coating.
  5. The plant bears fruit for a long time and consistently. When the fruits are picked before biological ripeness, they gradually turn red until the New Year holidays.

The wall thickness is up to 1 cm. This pepper is recommended for fresh use and various types of home cooking. Productivity of Goliath pepper : up to 3 kg per plant (subject to agricultural practices, watering and fertilizing).

Landing

Plants need to be fertilized

All planting material undergoes preliminary disinfection, so there is no need to additionally prepare the seeds before sowing. Young seedlings need timely watering and feeding.

The land for planting is prepared in advance. In the fall, some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are required, and in the spring, nitrogen fertilizers are required. The remaining parts are applied after planting the seedlings in the fruit formation phase and during the period of mass fruiting. Mulching the soil with black film accelerates the ripening of fruits.

Sowing work begins in mid-February. Before planting, seeds are soaked and then disinfected in potassium permanganate, peroxide or Fitosporin.

When the seedlings appear, the seedlings are exposed to light and phytolamps are connected. At the age of 60-65 days, the seedlings are transplanted into beds. The layout is 40 by 60 cm.

We suggest you familiarize yourself with Canning Red Hot Pepper

Peppers need watering up to 2-3 times a week in dry summers; during the rainy season, make sure the beds dry out. The next day after moistening, loosening is carried out. The hilling procedure gives a good effect.

The feeding scheme looks like this:

  • 12-14 days after transplantation, nitrogen compounds (urea, Azotovit), complex preparations are added;
  • in case of mass flowering, superphosphate and complexes (Agricola, Clean Sheet, Fertika) are used;
  • When ripe, fertilize 2-3 times with an interval of 2 weeks; phosphorus and potassium salts are used in equal proportions.

Growing and care

Peppers need watering up to 2-3 times a week in dry summers; during the rainy season, make sure the beds dry out. The next day after moistening, loosening is carried out. The hilling procedure gives a good effect.

To preserve moisture in the soil, farmers advise spreading mulch in a layer of up to 8 cm.

The feeding scheme looks like this:

  • 12-14 days after transplantation, nitrogen compounds (urea, Azotovit), complex preparations are added;
  • in case of mass flowering, superphosphate and complexes (Agricola, Clean Sheet, Fertika) are used;
  • When ripe, fertilize 2-3 times with an interval of 2 weeks; phosphorus and potassium salts are used in equal proportions.

Preparation for cultivation

Seed material is purchased in trusted stores; upon purchase, the expiration date of the seeds, the manufacturer, and the integrity of the packaging are studied. At home, the seeds are inspected for defects; specimens with stains or scratches are thrown away. The remaining seeds are checked for germination - placed in a jar of water and salt (50 g of salt per 1 liter of water) and stirred clockwise. The seeds that sink to the bottom are used for planting.

Seed disinfection is carried out using a solution of potassium permanganate, aloe juice or Bordeaux mixture. The seeds are placed in a fabric bag and dipped in liquid for 20 minutes, taken out and dried on a clean towel. They can also be disinfected using the oven - place on a baking sheet and put in the oven for an hour at a temperature of +180°C.

Important! After disinfection, the material is germinated - placed in damp gauze and put in a warm place for two days. To accelerate development, the growth stimulator “Kornevin” is added

Hybrid Kalif is grown in seedlings, so prepare the container and soil in advance. Any dry and clean container is suitable - flower pots, peat cups, wooden boxes. Ready-made soil from the store or soil from the garden are used as soil. The soil is fertilized with manure, compost or humus, and clean river sand is added for looseness.

Landing

The sowing period takes place during February - March. During this time, you need to have time to prepare and sow the seeds in nutritious soil. Seed material is soaked for disinfection in potassium permanganate and biological preparations. To germinate for a couple of days, the grains are laid out on moistened, breathable material, wrapped and covered with film.

The moisture content of the fabric is checked regularly and, if necessary, it is moistened with warm water.

From the 3rd day, the polyethylene is removed so that the seeds do not rot. The temperature is maintained at 26-28 degrees. The boxes are filled with loose fertilized substrate, which is made up of turf, compost, and vermicompost. For 10 kg of mixture, 30 g of phosphorus-potassium additive is required. The earth is also disinfected by freezing or calcination. You can use Bordeaux mixture, Fitosporin, potassium permanganate.

The seeds are laid out in grooves in increments of 4 cm, the depth of which is up to 1 cm. Before germination, microgreenhouse conditions are created, for this purpose the temperature is maintained at 20-25 degrees and the humidity is 60-70%.

When the seedlings grow 2 leaves, pick them into separate cups. Be sure to monitor watering and use water at room temperature.

Before planting in permanent areas, the bushes are hardened off. To do this, the seedlings are placed on the balcony from 15-20 minutes to 5-6 hours (after 7-10 days).

60-70 day old plants are moved to the beds. Up to 3-4 bushes are planted per 1 m2, taking into account their further powerful growth. The predecessors for pepper will be:

  • pumpkin and zucchini;
  • cucumbers and melons;
  • onion and garlic;
  • greens and celery;
  • legumes;
  • onions and beets.

The best varieties of bell pepper

This was three years ago. I went to the market and my gaze involuntarily stopped at the luxurious bell peppers - red, green, yellow. Beauty, I just want to take a bite! Seeing the price, I quietly stepped aside - I couldn’t afford it. I think that many of you have also found yourself in a similar situation. It became a shame. I decided to try to grow this “miracle” myself. The family is big and why not please my household members with delicious peppers too? Then some newspaper turned up and saw there an advertising module “Harvest Bed” agro. I heard about this company, a seed producer, from summer residents. The company offered customers more than 60 varieties and hybrids of sweet and hot peppers.

True, I am always cautious about advertising, but I took a risk and prescribed the seeds. I got the varieties - wonderfully!

Mirage is a highly productive and very early ripening variety. Plants are low-growing, compact, bouquet type. The fruits are blunt-conical and conical in shape, weighing 100-110 g, fleshy (wall thickness 7-8 mm). At different stages of ripening, the color of the fruit changes. The colors smoothly transition from white (ivory) to orange and then to red. Therefore, fruits at any stage are popular among market gardeners. Peppers of bright colors are always in demand among buyers. They also look beautiful on the table.

Zorka is an early variety that will delight you with the colors of the elements - from light straw, orange to bright scarlet. The fruits are juicy, the pulp is sweet. The bush is slightly larger than Mirage's and the peppers are larger.

Corvette is a classic variety of sweet pepper. The variety is early ripening, high-yielding, the fruits are small 60-80 g, conical. Awarded the Gold Medal of the Tsaritsyn Fair "Volgograd-2004". The pepper will delight you with light green fruits in technical ripeness and glossy bright red fruits in biological ripeness. The variety is exceptionally good for canning.

Player is a low-growing plant, very compact, a highly productive variety, and ripening early. Peppers are cuboid and tomato-shaped, weighing 130-150 g, with very thick walls 9-12 mm. Player - as it matures, it changes colors from green in the initial stage, and when fully matured it turns red. Imagine how you can diversify pickles using such characteristics of varieties!

The next year, other pepper hybrids appeared in my beds, not only sweet, but also hot and piquant: Prince Igor F1, Golden Horn F1, Buffalo Horn F1, Cowboy F1.

Of course, for the first year I treated each plant with care. In the fall, I added a bucket of humus per square meter of the future bed under the peppers, and in the spring, 40 g of superphosphate on the melted snow. Sowing seeds for seedlings began at the end of January. First I planted them in cups. Then, at the stage of three true leaves, I planted the plants into milk bags, in which I made holes at the bottom for drainage. In mid-April, I covered the bed for the peppers with film, having previously installed arcs. And in mid-May I planted seedlings in the beds. I choose a sunny place. When shaded, the stems become brittle and fruits do not set. Every 7 days, only in the evening, I watered the plants at the roots with settled warm water. Mirage, Zorka, Corvette and Player are compact and early ripening, so they grow well under low shelters. I followed the rule: not a single leaf below the ovary. The excess ovary was removed at the bud stage. I didn’t leave more than one fruit on the shoot because it couldn’t withstand the load. She tied not the branches with fruits to the trellis, but the fruits themselves. Now I grow 30 varieties of peppers for different purposes and ripening periods. I give preference to hybrids: they are superior to varieties in terms of yield, resistance to disease and weather conditions. I have no secrets from my neighbors; I generously share my experience. And at the market or in supermarkets I pass by the peppers with a smile and think - mine are better and more beautiful! Now let the Bulgarians envy my peppers!

Goliath pepper - description and characteristics of the variety

There are a huge number of varieties of vegetable crops on the seed market. A variety of sweet pepper called Goliath is very popular among them. Gardeners value it because it produces a lot of harvest and is undemanding in care.

Features of the variety

Goliath is a first generation hybrid variety. It has good resistance to many diseases and makes it possible to reap a rich harvest, even with a minimum of caring for the plant.

The variety is also unpretentious to weather conditions. This hybrid variety is not intended for cultivation in greenhouses; it should be planted in open beds.

Description of the plant

Goliath is a mid-season hybrid variety. The plant is powerful and compact. The ripening period ranges from 70 to 75 days from the moment of planting the seedlings. Thanks to the strong leaf apparatus, the plant is protected from sunlight, which can burn it.

The bush has well-developed roots, which are located close to the soil surface

For this reason, care must be taken when loosening to avoid damaging the root system.

Dark green leaves grow on the bush. The formation of the ovary occurs after seven to nine leaves, and subsequent ones - every two to three nodes.

How to plant and care for the variety

Before going on sale, all seeds of this hybrid variety are pre-disinfected. For this reason, there is no need to carry out additional treatment before sowing. Young shoots must be watered and fed in a timely manner.

After the seedlings are planted in open ground, the beds need to be shaded for several days. If this is not done, the sun's rays can burn the leaves of young seedlings. Before planting seedlings in a permanent place, you need to cut off all the inflorescences and small ovaries. Thanks to this, the plant’s adaptation to the new site will be faster and better.

The soil for planting seedlings is prepared in advance. In the fall, it needs to be fertilized with fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium, and in the spring with those that contain nitrogen. You also need to apply fertilizer after planting seedlings at the stage of fruit formation and during active fruiting. In order for the peppers to ripen more quickly, it is necessary to mulch the soil with a dark film.

Diseases and pests

The hybrid variety Goliath is highly resistant to many pests and diseases that often affect sweet peppers, including tobacco mosaic virus, late blight, gray rot, bacterial spot and other diseases.

To further protect the plant from harmful insects, it is recommended to plant basil between the rows, which releases elements that stimulate the growth of the nightshade crop.

Slugs are considered the most dangerous pests for this plant. During the rainy and insufficiently sunny season, they like to feast on peppers.

To prevent attacks by these harmful insects, you should sprinkle the leaves and stems of bushes with wood ash.

Gardeners' opinion

In general, vegetable growers respond positively to the Goliath variety. It is valued for its ease of care and resistance to common diseases. Also, high yields allow it to be grown on a production scale. The fruits are easily transported without losing their commercial qualities.

Description and characteristics of the variety

Goliath sweet peppers can be successfully grown in open soil, in greenhouses with temporary and permanent shelter. According to the timing of the beginning of fruiting, the variety belongs to the mid-season line. Maturation begins 110-125 days after seedling germination.

Goliath pepper from the famous originator “Siberian Garden” is a medium-sized plant. The shoots in the bushes grow 70 cm in length and are located semi-spreadingly. They require shaping as they grow and tying to posts.

What you should know about the fruits of the Goliath bell pepper, their description and characteristics:

  • average weight 250-400 g;
  • cube or truncated prism shape;
  • deep ruby color;
  • pericarp is juicy and fleshy (10 mm);
  • skin with glossy tints.

Peppers have a presentable appearance, high marketability and taste. They are in constant demand in the market. In salads, appetizers, and hot dishes they sell out with a bang. They are canned, pickled, frozen in pieces. Preparations with these peppers are especially tasty and aromatic.

Characteristics of the Goliath pepper variety

Among the huge variety of vegetables, the Goliath pepper variety is in great demand in the market. It has earned recognition due to its ease of care and high yield.

Characteristics of the Goliath pepper variety

Characteristics of the Goliath variety

The Goliath pepper variety belongs to the first generation hybrids. It is resistant to many diseases and produces good yields even with minimal care. Collecting seeds from its fruits for further planting is impractical: they do not retain the varietal characteristics of their parents.

Pepper Goliath F1 is unpretentious to climatic conditions and is suitable for growing in open ground. This hybrid excludes the use of greenhouses and indoor growing facilities.

Description of the bush

The mid-early hybrid has a strong compact bush with a ripening period of 70-75 days from the day of planting. Protection from the scorching summer rays is provided by a powerful leaf apparatus.

The leaves are dark green, with a smooth, waxy surface. The ovary begins to form after 7-9 true leaves, and after that every 2-3 nodes.

Description of the fruit

Seeds of this variety have a high cost. As a result, gardeners and farmers get much more fruit than the usual known varieties. The average yield from 1 bush, tested by manufacturers, is 11-12 fruits.

Main characteristics of Goliath sweet pepper:

The fruits are uniform, conical in shape and size 6 × 14 cm

The average weight of the fruit is 130-160 g; they have a small seed chamber, which is important during processing. Some fruits reach a length of 20 cm. The thickness of the fruit wall is moderately thick - 7-8 mm

This gives the product an additional advantage: the thick walls of the vegetable make the product juicier and tastier, as well as the possibility of being frozen for a fairly long time. Thanks to the thick wall, the fruits are well transported over long distances and retain their presentation for a long time. Products can be stored for 2-3 weeks in a net or in boxes without losing their presentation, shape or quality characteristics. When technically ripe, the fruits are green in color. With the onset of biological, it changes to deep red with a whitish waxy coating. The fruiting period is stable and long. If the fruits are cut before biological ripening begins, they gradually turn red until the new year.

Planting and caring for the Goliath variety

Plants need to be fertilized

All planting material undergoes preliminary disinfection, so there is no need to additionally prepare the seeds before sowing. Young seedlings need timely watering and feeding.

After transplanting the seedlings to a permanent place, it is necessary to shade the beds for several days. Otherwise, young seedlings may get leaf burns. Before planting, remove all inflorescences and small ovaries. This will help the plants maintain strength and better take root in their new location.

Pests and diseases of the Goliath variety

In comparison with varietal plants, which are often unable to cope with diseases, the price of these seeds corresponds to the investment in fertilizers and plant protection products. At the same time, the selection seeds are reliably protected from the tobacco mosaic virus, bacterial spot and cancer, Alternaria blight, late blight, gray rot and blackleg, which have become widespread in recent years.

For additional protection from pests, basil is planted between rows. The subshrub is a friend of the nightshade crop and releases substances that stimulate growth.

The greatest danger to pepper bushes is slugs. In cloudy and rainy weather, they love to feast on the fruits of the crop. To combat slugs, leaves and stems are dusted with wood ash.

Agrotechnical conditions

Temperature

Pompeo pepper is a heat-loving crop and requires high temperatures throughout the entire development cycle:

  • Soaking seeds: 25 degrees.
  • Soil temperature when planting seedlings: 18-20 degrees.
  • Air temperature: 25-27 degrees.

Illumination

Pompeo pepper seedlings require lighting. The optimal length of daylight for the crop is 12 hours. Standard phytolamps give excellent results.

Humidity

Pepper is a moisture-loving plant. When germination, it is recommended to set up a mini-greenhouse with high humidity - up to 75-80%. In the future, pepper requires regular, abundant root watering, but cannot tolerate stagnant water at the roots and trunk.

Growing from seeds

To obtain strong and healthy seedlings of Pompeo pepper, it is necessary to prepare the soil and fertilizer for the seedlings in advance. The soil chosen is loose, with a large amount of organic impurities, peat, sawdust, straw.

It is better to plant peppers immediately in individual containers. The seedlings of this culture do not like unnecessary pickings. Plastic cups with a volume of 150-250 g are well suited; peat tablets, popular among gardeners, are somewhat less suitable for peppers: they dry out quickly.

  1. Before planting, seeds are soaked in a solution of a growth stimulator for a day.
  2. Then they are sown to a depth of 1 cm.
  3. The distance between plants, if sowing is done in a common container, should be at least 3 cm.

When to plant?

The optimal time for sowing peppers is from February 20 to March 1. Seedlings are planted in the ground at the age of 60-65 days.

Care

  • Immediately after sowing, it is better to wrap the container with seedlings with stretch film, enhancing the greenhouse effect. Seedlings necessarily require additional illumination with phyto-lamps. The duration of the photoperiod should be at least 12 hours.
  • The first feeding is carried out after the appearance of two true leaves. It is recommended to make the first fertilizing with yeast, and after 15 days with a potassium fertilizer complex. 5 days before the planned date of planting Pompeo peppers in the ground, the last feeding of the seedlings is done.

Planting in open ground

The place for planting peppers is prepared a couple of weeks before the planned transfer to the ground. The soil should warm up well - up to 15-18 degrees, and also be as loose as possible. It is worth adding mineral potassium fertilizers or wood ash to the soil in advance.

The transplant is carried out in cloudy weather or in the evening twilight. The plant is removed from the pot entirely with a lump of earth, carefully transferred to a designated place, watered abundantly, and pressed.

The planting scheme for Pompeo peppers should take into account the high bushiness of the plant. The optimal distance between bushes is 50*50 cm.

Outdoor care

Planting in open ground takes place at the end of May. Pepper seedlings can be transferred to greenhouses as early as mid-May. For planting, choose sunny, heated areas, protected from drafts.

After transplanting into open ground, peppers must be carefully cared for.

  • During the first week, it is advisable to provide shade to the plantings so that the plants are less sick.
    Watering during this period is carried out frequently, but in small volumes of water. After transplanting, peppers stop growing for 14-16 days. At the moment of color development, it is necessary to reduce the intensity of watering. But after 5 days, when the ovary develops, watering should be carried out once every 3 days and at least 2 liters per bush.
  • Weeding and loosening of Pompeo peppers should be regular. Loosening is carried out shallow - 5-7 cm, at intervals of 2-3 weeks.
  • Feeding peppers in a permanent place is required three times per season.
    The first should be carried out no earlier than 4 weeks after disembarkation. Fertilizing can be done with a solution of ash, manure, or bird droppings. All feeding is carried out strictly in the evening and at the root. The next two feedings occur during the period of active fruiting. Plants need the maximum amount of nutrients, so it is recommended to use mineral complexes. Fertilizers can be applied both during watering and by digging between the rows.

Pepper Goliath: photos, reviews

The plant has a developed root system. The rhizome is close to the surface of the soil, so you need to loosen it very carefully so as not to damage it.

  • The fruits are homogeneous, have a conical shape and a size of 6 × 14 cm. The average weight of the fruit is 130-160 g, they have a small seed chamber, which is important during processing. Some fruits reach a length of 20 cm.
  • The wall thickness of the fruit is moderately thick - 7-8 mm. This gives the product an additional advantage: the thick walls of the vegetable make the product juicier and tastier, as well as the possibility of being frozen for a fairly long time.
  • Thanks to the thick wall, the fruits are well transported over long distances and retain their presentation for a long time. Products can be stored for 2-3 weeks in a net or in boxes without losing their presentation, shape or quality characteristics.
  • When technically ripe, the fruits are green in color. With the onset of biological, it changes to deep red with a whitish waxy coating.
  • The fruiting period is stable and long. If the fruits are cut before biological ripening begins, they gradually turn red until the new year.

The most popular and best varieties of sweet peppers for Siberia

The use of pepper is not limited to just one culinary area. It is actively used in medicine: traditional and folk. The product is rich in nutrients. Every gardener knows that such a vegetable is a light- and heat-loving crop.

But this does not prevent it from being grown in Siberia. After all, there are many varieties. For growing in cold climate regions, the main thing is to choose a suitable, hardy variety. The best varieties of sweet pepper for Siberia will be described in the article.

How to choose a variety?

The peculiarity of pepper is that it is highly resistant to various diseases. It can be grown in any type of soil. Previously, such a heat-loving plant was usually found only in gardens located in the southern regions. Today, various types of covering agents have appeared. It has become possible to cultivate bell peppers in the Siberian region.

When choosing seeds for planting, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  1. The packaging must indicate that the variety is for Siberia.
  2. Shelf life of seeds.
  3. Packing date. It is advisable that it is not two years old.

How to plant and care for peppers in Siberia?

In the Siberian Territory, the process of sowing pepper seeds is usually done in March.

It is important that the ground temperature does not fall below +25 degrees. Since seedlings do not tolerate transplantation well, use cups in which 2 seeds are planted.

To plant seedlings, it is better to choose a place at a height that is well lit. A distance of 85 centimeters is maintained between rows. Irrigation is done after the plant has taken root. The soil should be loosened carefully.

Otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the root system. There is no need to fertilize with manure. It is better to add minerals in small doses. Ripe fruits must be removed on time.

Otherwise, this will become an obstacle to the growth of new and maturation of immature specimens.

Thus, although pepper is a heat-loving plant, it is also actively grown in Siberia.

And all thanks to the fact that breeders have developed early-ripening, best varieties that are resistant to low temperatures. There are quite a lot of varieties today. Therefore, summer residents do not have problems with the choice.

The main thing is that the seeds are of high quality. Otherwise, everything depends on the gardener, compliance with agricultural technology and care.
