Description and characteristics of the variety
The Oxhorn pepper has a place of honor among Italians and has already become a favorite among vegetable growers from Russia. Its bright golden fruits have an exquisite taste and aroma, and their shape resembles real bull horns.
Hot pepper Bullhorn grows in massive semi-spreading bushes. The length of the stems is 50-60 cm, in greenhouses - 60-70 cm.
Ripening after planting seedlings occurs after 75-85 days. During this period, many clusters with ovaries and yellow ripe fruits are formed on the plants.
What are the distinctive features of fruits:
- average weight 40-60 g;
- length 20 cm;
- the top is rolled up;
- the flesh is spicy with a pleasant sweet tint;
- pericarp 4-5 mm;
- golden yellow color.
The fruits have an exquisite bitter taste, which allows them to be used in a variety of sauces and ketchups. They are also stuffed with minced meat, baked, and boiled for garnish.
Description of the plant
The bushes of this plant are standard, medium spreading, up to 60 cm high in open ground, in greenhouses, according to reviews, reaches 1 m. The leaves are medium-sized, slightly wrinkled, green. Small, elongated fruits are located drooping on the plants and have a characteristic “ram’s horn” shape twisted in a spiral:
- Pepper length up to 35cm, weight 25-35g.
- The cone-shaped fruits are slightly wrinkled.
- The taste is sharp, piquant.
- Peppers change color from green to yellow when ripe, then turn red.
- Fully ripe red peppers have thicker skin, which means they are stored well and are not damaged during transportation.
- The fruits are universal in use - suitable for use as seasonings for meat and vegetable dishes, as well as for canning and freezing. Dried pepper is ground and used to make dry seasonings.
- Widely used in medicine.
- Pepper yield up to 3 kg per sq.m.
Pepper ripening is gradual. For cooking, you can use green and yellow fruits, the skin of which is more tender and soft. The first pepper fruits can be used as early as July. At the same time, the bushes can contain a large number of fruits at different stages of ripening, which extends until late autumn.
Many housewives, in order to extend the fruiting period of pepper, prefer to grow it in greenhouses or plant it in large containers in order to bring it into the house when it gets cold.
