Selection of variety depending on the region

Tomatoes that gave a rich harvest in the south may not take root at all in the middle zone. Each region has characteristic climate characteristics and unique soil composition. That is why it is so important to find out before planting a particular variety whether it is suitable for your place of residence.

The greenhouse varieties Andromeda, Sladkaya Grazhd and Nevsky are excellent for the Moscow region Sweet and aromatic tomatoes require a minimum of attention, but at the same time give a rich and high-quality harvest. Also pay attention to the varieties Captain, Hummingbird and Princess. In temperate climates, they perform well and are easy to care for.

For the conditions of the Ural region, choose varieties that are resistant to frost, fog and rain. In the Urals there is a short summer and little sun, so the plant must be as prepared as possible. To do this, at the stage of growing seedlings, do not forget about hardening. Reviews from experienced gardeners pay attention to the varieties Zvezdochka, Kaspar, Alaska, Tornado and Flame. Before planting, it is recommended to germinate the seeds and test them for germination.

As for Siberia and other northern regions, we recommend purchasing traditional seeds of the Siberian early ripening, Abakan pink, Velmozha, Sensei varieties. These varieties, known throughout Russia, are distinguished by large tomatoes and excellent taste. Siberian tomatoes are frost-resistant, not afraid of shade and winds.

Important ! When choosing seeds, carefully read the information on the package. A quality manufacturer must provide recommendations for cultivation. Pay special attention to the planting area.

Early varieties of low-growing tomatoes

As for low-growing tomatoes, Pink Honey and Monomakh's Cap from the Siberian Garden have proven themselves to be excellent. These are very large and tasty tomatoes. To get an early harvest, the tomatoes Snegir from Biotekhnika, New Orange from Semko, Lyana from Aelita, Lyubasha and Orange Farmer from Partner, Nepas from Sedek are suitable.

Low-growing tomatoes and gnome tomatoes are perfect not only for growing in a greenhouse, but also in open ground.

Sanka

The stated weight of the fetus is 150 g.

To get a yield of 15 kg per square meter. m, seedlings are planted tightly. For 1 sq. m place up to 7 plants. Sanka is characterized by extended fruiting. With proper care (watering, fertilizing, timely harvesting of fruits), the fruits set throughout the summer. Advantages of the variety: unpretentiousness, productivity, versatility.

What are low-growing gnome tomatoes?

There is a special category of tomatoes - gnomes, they are sown early - in mid-February. Tomatoes - gnomes - are a fairly new group for us, which are distinguished by a compact root system, strong seedlings, and then a powerful bush. The height of an adult plant is from 40 cm to 170 cm. And most importantly, such tomatoes come in different shapes and colors, their weight reaches up to 500 g, they are productive, less capricious and tolerate more dense planting.

These tomatoes are the result of Australian and American breeders: Shadowboxing, Wild Fred, Thong, Purple Heart, etc.

Important characteristics of early tomatoes

All early ripening varieties can be divided into three main groups, based on the ripening period. Classification groups are given in the table.

GroupMaturation period in days
ultra-earlyfrom 80 to 85
early ripeningfrom 90 to 95
mid-earlyfrom 100 to 105

In addition to the ripening period, it is important to consider the height of the plant. The height of the bush plays a big role in the choice; this characteristic largely depends on the type of growth of early tomatoes. There are determinate and indeterminate varieties for greenhouses.

Determinate tomato bushes stop growing on their own after the formation of 4 to 8 bunches. Plants of the opposite type do not have growth restrictions; gardeners call them indents for short. Indeterminate varieties are better suited for greenhouses. They make the most of the height of the greenhouse, adult specimens reach 2 meters in height.

Modern early ripening varieties (hybrids) for greenhouses are very productive, with high-quality care they maintain long-term fruiting and suffer little disease. Indents, without exception, require work on forming a bush and tying it to a support. In greenhouses, low-growing varieties of tomatoes should be planted in areas with very short summers. Determinants are distinguished by friendly yield, some do not require pinching and gartering.

For gardeners, varietal characteristics regarding the shape, size and color of the fruit are important. Breeders have developed tomato varieties to suit every taste. For lovers of juicy pulp, large-fruited tomatoes are suitable; for those who prepare, tomatoes with small and medium-sized fruits are suitable.

What are super early tomatoes?

What varieties of tomatoes are recommended to be grown in greenhouses?

It is recommended to grow in greenhouses those varieties of tomatoes that are intended for growing indoors. These can be either tall or compact low tomatoes. However, experts recommend planting tall vegetable crops in protected soil, but forming them into just one shoot. In this case, in a relatively small space it will be possible to grow the maximum possible number of plants and at the same time obtain high yields.

When choosing tomato varieties for a polycarbonate greenhouse, you should not pay attention only to the design of the seed bags. The main criteria for choosing this vegetable crop for planting in protected soil are as follows:

  • good resistance to most diseases affecting vegetable plants of the nightshade family;
  • timing of fruit ripening;
  • what is the yield of the variety;
  • can it be grown in the shade?
  • be self-pollinating;
  • tolerate high indoor humidity;
  • resistance to temperature changes.

You also need to determine for which regions the selected varieties are zoned, and also find out more about the taste qualities of ripe fruits.

In addition, vegetable growers must decide how the future harvest will be used - for fresh consumption, for preservation or other purposes.

It is better to purchase seed material in specialized stores from well-known manufacturing companies. When purchasing bags of seeds, you need to pay attention to their shelf life and whether the packaging is torn. Tomato seeds lose their viability during long-term (more than 3-4 seasons) storage.
