Tomato Auria: description of the variety, reviews of the harvest, photos, cultivation

Description of the variety

This vegetable crop is a mid-season plant; from the time of sowing to harvesting, it takes from 100 to 110 days. The ripening period directly depends on climatic conditions and growing methods.

The bushes look like vines, the height of which is 1.5–2 meters. Sometimes they can grow even higher under the film. The color of the stem and leaves is light green.

The fruits are oblong with a slight bifurcation at the end. The average length is about 13 cm, weight is 150–180 grams. Tomatoes located higher up gain more mass and can reach 200 grams.

When tomatoes ripen, they become dense, fleshy, with a small number of chambers and seeds with a red, shiny skin. They do not tend to overripe or crack. They can maintain an attractive appearance for a long time.

Basically, the tomato variety was bred for canning, but judging by the reviews, they can be immediately used for food purposes.

Description and characteristics of tomato Auria, reviews, photos

Very productive , indeterminate (unlimited growth), mid-season tomato variety for greenhouses and open ground.

A liana-shaped bush, about 2 meters high . It requires tying the plant to a support or trellis and pinching it. It is best to form it into 1-2 stems.

Basic qualities of fruits

Tomatoes have an interesting elongated shape with a forked end; it is because of this appearance of the fruit that the variety received such names as: Women's Joy, Fun , Adam, Men's. In different catalogues, this variety may be called by any of these names. Tomatoes grow in clusters, each cluster containing 6-8 pieces.

When ripe, the fruits are red, weigh 100-150 grams and are 12-14 cm long. The tomato pulp is dense, tasty, aromatic, with a small number of seeds. These tomatoes are universally used - great for both canning and fresh consumption, as well as drying.

Growing

The first thing to do is to prepare the seeds in February. They are sorted through and the largest ones are selected. Afterwards, a saline solution is prepared. Seeds are placed in it for 15 minutes. The floating specimens are removed, and those remaining at the bottom are washed and dried.

Next, the seeds must be disinfected. A 1% solution of potassium permanganate is diluted in a jar, and all the selected material is placed there for 20 minutes.

Then experienced gardeners soak the seeds in warm water, after wrapping them in a piece of gauze. It is important to remember that the water should not completely hide them, it is enough to cover only 50%. The procedure takes approximately 12 hours, during which the water is changed 3 times.

The next stage is germination. The seeds are placed on a wet cloth and placed in a warm place. Afterwards they are hardened in the refrigerator for 12 hours, then heated again in a warm place for the same amount of time. These steps are repeated 3–5 times. Thanks to this procedure, plants in the future will be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations, develop better and produce more yield.

How to grow seedlings

The easiest way to grow Auria tomatoes is by seedling method. Planting material is purchased from trusted stores or garden centers. The main work on seed preparation is carried out in mid-February.

Seed preparation

Proper preparation of planting material is the key to obtaining a high-quality and abundant harvest of vegetables.

  1. Planting material is carefully sorted, getting rid of cracked, damaged or deformed specimens.
  2. The selected seeds are placed on the bottom of the jar and filled with a solution of water and salt.
  3. After 15-20 minutes, empty, non-viable seeds will float to the surface of the container, and whole specimens will settle to the bottom.
  4. After sorting, the seeds are washed and dried at room conditions.
  5. To avoid the development of diseases, planting material is treated with an antibacterial solution. This solution is made from manganese or purchased in specialized stores.
  6. Next, the seeds are wrapped in gauze and poured with warm water for 10-12 hours. As soon as the water cools down, it is replaced with warm water. For faster germination of seed material, a growth stimulator is added to the water.

After the preparatory work, the seeds are wrapped in a damp cloth and left until the first roots appear.

Advice! In order for plants to easily tolerate temperature changes, it is recommended to harden the seed material. To do this, place the container with the seeds on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator and leave it there for 10-12 hours.

Dates and sowing pattern

The timing of sowing seeds for seedlings depends on the climate zone and the further method of growing the vegetable crop. If the tomatoes are intended to be transferred to open ground, then sowing activities are carried out 2 months before the proposed work. For greenhouse cultivation of tomatoes of this variety, seeds are planted 1.5 months before transferring the seedlings to their permanent place of residence.

  1. For planting seeds, select spacious containers in the form of pots or boxes.
  2. The containers are thoroughly washed and scalded with boiling water.
  3. Fertile soil is poured into each pot. It is best to use ready-made soil purchased at the store. If the soil is taken from a personal plot, before planting the seeds, it is treated with a manganese solution and heated in the oven at a temperature of at least 160 degrees.
  4. Holes or grooves, 1 to 1.5 centimeters deep, are dug on the soil surface, into which the seeds are placed at a distance of 1 centimeter from each other.
  5. The top of the planting is sprinkled with earth and moistened with a spray bottle.
  6. After planting is completed, containers with seeds are covered with film and sent to a warm room.
  7. As soon as the sprouts appear, the covering material is removed, and the containers with the plantings are moved to a warm, bright room.

Ask a Question

Important! Before sprouts appear, the film is removed daily for 30-40 minutes to provide the soil and planting material with oxygen.

Germination and picking

Caring for seedlings involves timely watering and, if necessary, fertilizing. Also, after 2-3 tomato leaves appear, densely planted plants dive. To do this, leave the strongest and most viable sprouts in the container. The remaining shoots are removed or planted in different pots.

15-20 days before transferring the plants to their permanent place of growth, the seedlings are hardened off by taking the pots with the plants outside every day.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Auria variety has the following positive qualities:

  1. Good tolerance to temperature changes and lack of moisture.
  2. Resistance to many diseases.
  3. High yield.
  4. Great taste.
  5. Integrity of fruits over a long period of time.

The disadvantages of Auria include the following:

  1. Plant fragility.
  2. Seeds are not sold in all stores.
  3. Incompatible with some fertilizers.

Features of caring for the variety in the ground

Tomato Ladies' Caprice requires cultivation on 1 sq. m 2-3 bushes, formation into 1-2 trunks, removal of stepsons. The tops of the shoots are pinched after 6 fruit clusters appear - the rest will not have time to ripen anyway, but the lower ones will be larger. When the tomatoes begin to fill up, the leaves are thinned out, leaving 2-3 pieces for each bunch.

In greenhouses and in the ground, Auria tomatoes must be tied to a support. The vine-like thin shoots are flexible and strong enough not to break; they will simply lie on the ground.

The variety is drought-resistant, but requires regular watering. If the soil is not moistened evenly, the fruits that have begun to ripen may crack.

Auria tomatoes are fed at least three times per season:

  • in the holes when planting with a complete mineral complex with a predominance of nitrogen;
  • during mass flowering;
  • when the fruits on the lower cluster begin to color.

The second and third feedings require a high content of phosphorus, moderate - potassium, minimal - nitrogen. If the tomato develops poorly or shows signs of starvation, the composition of the fertilizers is adjusted. The Auria variety responds well to foliar feeding. It is recommended to give them together with epin or zircon no more than once every 2 weeks.

The soil under the tomatoes is loosened, weeds are removed, and mulched. Greenhouses must be ventilated daily.

Pests and diseases

The description of tomatoes of this variety indicates stable resistance to diseases. But in reality, it often turns out that bushes on acidic soil begin to suffer from blossom end rot. You can get rid of this misfortune as follows:

  1. Water more often.
  2. Treat plants with a 1% solution of copper sulfate and lime 2–4 times during the summer.
  3. Reduce soil acidity by adding dolomite flour.

This tomato variety has pests such as aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. The best way to fight them is with an Arrow. Plants resist many infections well, but dry spotting can affect them. The drugs Antrakol and Tattu help with it.

Characteristic

One of the main characteristics of this tomato is the presence of long, thin, articulated stalks. They seem thin and fragile, but they perfectly support the weight of ripe tomatoes.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of the Auria tomato include:

  • original shape of the fruit;
  • good taste;
  • tomatoes are not prone to cracking even during transportation and heat treatment, and have good shelf life;
  • good yield;
  • in the cluster, all the fruits ripen together and at the same time;
  • the harvested crop has a universal purpose;
  • since this tomato is a variety, its seed material can be collected for further planting;
  • the Auria tomato has good resistance to periods of drought;
  • Fruiting is extended over time.

But this tomato also has a number of disadvantages that gardeners need to know about:

  • many vegetable growers consider the taste of the fruits of this variety not too expressive;
  • without a garter, shoots may break under the weight of ripening fruits;
  • ripe fruits must be removed immediately, as they are prone to shedding;
  • The variety's bushes are weakly resistant to blossom end rot, so it is necessary to feed this vegetable plant with fertilizers containing calcium throughout the season.

Productivity

Fruiting of the Auria tomato is extended over time; vegetable growers note that up to 5 kg of pepper tomatoes can be harvested from each bush, and up to 15-17 kg from each square of area.

Area of application of fruits

Collected Auria tomatoes are good in vegetable salads and appetizers, they are used to decorate dishes. The fruits fit perfectly into jars and do not burst during heat treatment, so they are successfully pickled, noting that their taste improves.

You can also prepare tomato paste and ketchup from the harvested Auria tomato, dry it and freeze it for the winter.

Resistance to diseases and pests

Vegetable growers note that the resistance of this tomato to the main diseases inherent in vegetable crops from the nightshade family is average. Most often, the Auria tomato is affected by such diseases from neighboring crops. Therefore, it is not recommended to plant nightshade vegetable crops next to this variety.

The resistance of this tomato to blossom end rot and dry spot is low.

Harvest and storage

It is important for every gardener that the collected tomatoes do not spoil for a long time.

This can be achieved if you follow these rules for storing vegetables:

  • make your own from wood or buy new boxes;
  • carefully place dry and healthy fruits in them;
  • Cover the top with a lid without damaging the tomatoes;
  • leave the harvest in a cool and ventilated area.

Auria tomatoes tend not to crack when ripening, as well as during harvesting and storage. The fruits remain tasty and attractive in appearance for quite a long time.

Nuances of open ground and greenhouse conditions

When growing this tomato in garden beds or in greenhouse conditions, the following measures must be taken:

  • obligatory garter of shoots;
  • regularly water the plants, avoiding drying out or waterlogging the soil;
  • be sure to apply fertilizers, otherwise the fruits will become smaller and the plant productivity will decrease;
  • the lower foliage is usually removed during the period of fruit ripening, as it may come into contact with wet soil and begin to rot;
  • The greenhouse should be ventilated daily, especially after watering. Otherwise, the humidity level in the room will increase, which will lead to the development of fungal diseases;
  • When growing tomatoes in greenhouses, they may lack natural light. In this case, additional lighting is installed in the room, otherwise the plants may reduce growth and the fruits will ripen more slowly.

Reviews from gardeners

Antonina Vasilievna, 61 years old, Tyumen:

“I grow tomatoes of the Auria variety only for winter storage. I would like to note that the yield is very good, I only need five bushes. In my purely personal opinion, they are not at all suitable for preparing salads and other dishes. Their taste is good, a C grade, but it’s better to use other varieties.”

Elena, 38 years old, Krasnoyarsk:

“I put Auria under the film. The maximum height of the plants was 2 meters. I agree with the first review that tomatoes are great for pickling. That year I had a super harvest, so I tried to sell the surplus, but due to their amazing shape, few people bought them. They are completely different from ordinary ones. People just smiled and chose the usual round tomatoes.”

Vitalina, 29 years old, Penza:

“I have been planting this variety since 2016. I liked everything and still like it. Here they grow juicy and sweet, we eat them straight from the bush.”

Sergey, 49 years old, Volzhsky:

“Last year I planted 7 bushes in the ground. The tomatoes began to ripen much earlier than expected, and they were harvested almost before frost. They didn't take much care of them, just watered them with fertilizer and tore off the excess leaves. The neighbors came to our garden as if they were going to a museum to look at this miracle.”

Transfer

Transplantation of tomatoes of the Auria variety is carried out at the stage of appearance of 5-6 leaves and reaching a height of at least 25 cm.

Site preparation

About two weeks before planting the seedlings, carefully prepare the area - add the following composition per 1 m²:

  • a bucket of humus (compost);
  • 3 kg of wood ash;
  • 100 g superphosphate;
  • 80 g of potassium nitrate.

If the soil is acidified, add an additional 300 g of dolomite flour or slaked lime per 1 m². After this, the bed is dug up, leveled and generously spilled with water with the addition of 15 g of copper sulfate.

Soil deoxidation is carried out long before seedlings are planted, usually in the fall. The chemical reaction of neutralizing soil acids proceeds slowly. In this case, it is impossible to add manure or humus at the same time as lime or dolomite flour, because In this case, insoluble and therefore useless salts for plants are formed.

The latter component has a disinfectant effect and effectively destroys pathogenic microflora accumulated in the soil.

Planting scheme

Choose a sunny, elevated place where there are no winds or swamps. The best predecessors are lettuce, legumes, beets, carrots, onions and garlic.

Tomatoes of the Auria variety need space, so no more than 5 bushes are planted on a plot of 1 m². This condition applies to planting both in open and protected ground. The distance between bushes is at least 40 cm, in a row - about 60 cm.

Proper care will ensure you a good harvest

Before planting, each hole is spilled with water, and stakes are driven in nearby for support. When the moisture is absorbed, lower the roots of the plant, cover it with soil and lightly compact it in the stem area.

It is better to plant seedlings in the evening or early in the morning, when the sun has gone down, otherwise the tender sprouts will receive severe burns, wither, and then turn yellow.

Care

Considering the characteristics described above, this variety is unpretentious in care, so growing it will not be difficult even for a novice gardener.

  1. Regular moistening is necessary for the active growth of the above-ground and underground parts of tomatoes. The first watering is carried out a week after planting. The procedure is carried out only as the soil surface dries. Use settled water. 5-6 liters of water are poured under one plant. When watering, it is important that moisture does not fall on the stems, leaves and flowers, otherwise they may rot or get burned in the sun. Many people use a drip irrigation system, which provides moisture in the required quantity and at the right time.
  2. Loosening after watering keeps the soil light. This procedure is combined with weeding and weed removal.
  3. To avoid drying out of the soil and root system, after loosening the tomatoes can be covered with garden soil.
  4. Pinching will help to form the correct shape of the bush and get a high-quality harvest from it. The plant is formed into one stem, all other shoots and stepsons are removed.
  5. As the bush grows, it is tied to a support to prevent the stem from breaking off under the weight of the fruit.
  6. To increase the yield, the Auria tomato variety needs to be fed three times. The first fertilization with a urea solution (1 tablespoon of substance per 10 liters of water) is carried out a week after transplantation. After 3 weeks, a second feeding with complex mineral fertilizers is carried out. The third feeding is carried out at the beginning of the flowering period. Add a solution of superphosphate (1 tbsp) and potassium nitrate (1 tbsp) to a bucket of water. 1 liter of nutrient liquid is poured under each bush.

Planting seedlings in a permanent place

Before planting seedlings in open ground, it is important to find a suitable place for this where the tomatoes will feel as comfortable as possible. Usually, a hill is chosen for this, protected from strong winds. The soil in which their predecessors were legumes, lettuce and various root vegetables is most suitable for growing tomatoes.

Important! Under no circumstances should you plant tomatoes in soil that previously grew potatoes.

Depending on the region, tomato seedlings are planted in open ground from mid-May to early June. Before this, the soil is fertilized with organic fertilizer at the rate of 1 bucket per square meter. When planting seedlings, the distance between the holes should be at least 60 cm. First, a small amount of a low-percentage solution of potassium permanganate must be poured into each hole to disinfect the soil.

Carefully removed from the container, a ball of earth with the roots of the seedlings is placed in the hole to such a depth that the earth covers the stem of the plant up to the first leaves located on it.
