Description and characteristics of the tomato variety Kubyshka, reviews, photos

Mid-early, determinant, productive tomato variety of Siberian selection for open ground.

The bush is 0.5-0.7 meters high; it requires tying to a support and pinching to the first cluster. The variety is resistant to diseases and adverse weather conditions.

Basic qualities of fruits

The fruits are round, even in size, red in color at maturity, very shelf-stable, and ripen well. The average fruit weight is 100-110 grams. These tomatoes are well suited for whole fruit canning.

Productivity of tomato Kubyshka : up to 2.5 kg of fruits from 1 plant (subject to agricultural practices).

Origin of the Raspberry Kubyshka tomato variety

The variety “Raspberry Pot” was developed by specialists of the agricultural company “Sedek”. The tomato is included in the State Register of Russia as a variety recommended for growing in unprotected soil, as well as under film covers.

Features of cultivation

The bushes grow quickly. Before the growing season begins, it is necessary to limit their growth. Only one stem should be formed. It is recommended to remove side shoots with a sharp knife or pruning shears. Garter may be required at late ripening. When the plants have grown more than 75 cm and there are a large number of fruits on them. In this case, you can use special garters and supports.

The Raspberry Kubyshka tomato variety has excellent taste. Intended for fresh consumption. Distributed throughout the Russian Federation. Designed for early sowing in February-March.

Tomatoes require a seedling method of planting. First you need to prepare the soil and seeds.

After disinfection, the soil is allowed to stand for 2-3 days so that beneficial microflora can form in it.

The seeds are soaked in a solution of 1% potassium permanganate or in aloe juice for half an hour. Then they are washed and treated with a solution of Zircon or Epin according to the instructions.

Seedlings are planted and grown according to the following rules:

  1. Make shallow, 1-2 cm, grooves in the soil with a distance of about 3 cm between them.
  2. Lay out the seeds, sprinkle with a layer of soil, and spray with water from a spray bottle.
  3. Wrap in film and transfer to a warm room until sprouts appear.
  4. When the first shoots appear above the surface, they are provided with access to light and air, the film is removed and the temperature is reduced.
  5. The bushes need to be illuminated 12-14 hours a day, using special lamps if necessary.
  6. Feed the seedlings once with a weak solution of ammophosphate or urea.
  7. With the appearance of the second true leaf, picking into separate pots is necessary.
  8. 10 days before transplanting into open ground, they begin to harden the seedlings.

In the fall, they dig up the ground and apply fertilizers. In the spring, a little fertilizer is also placed in the holes, for example, superphosphate or ash.

When using mineral fertilizers, do not allow the roots to come into direct contact with the substance when planting. It can burn them. For the same reason, fertilizing with undiluted fresh manure is prohibited.

There are up to 6 bushes per square meter.

Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, removal of weeds, fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizer and preventive measures to protect the crop from diseases and pests.

If the rules of care are followed, the variety, regardless of the place of cultivation, shows a stable good harvest.

Features of growing the “Klusha” variety

As mentioned above, we determine the time for sowing seeds for seedlings, soak them in the “Fitosporin” solution, which accelerates germination and protects seedlings from diseases.

Sowing seeds

For planting, it is safer to use purchased soil: pour it into flat containers 5–7 cm high, pour a warm solution of potassium permanganate into the grooves. There should be 5 cm between them, and bury the seeds no more than 1 cm, make the distance between the seeds at least 2 cm, and carefully sprinkle with soil.

Cover the containers with cling film or glass and place them in a room where the temperature will be constantly 22–25 degrees.

Seedling care

After 3–5 days, when shoots appear, remove the film and lower the daytime temperature to 20 and the night temperature to 16 degrees. Do not let the soil dry out, but do not flood it either.

At this time, the seedlings need to be illuminated: daylight should not be less than 16 hours. Although Klusha tomatoes do not stretch, a violation of the light regime can play a bad role for the future harvest.

Picking

As soon as two true leaves appear, it’s time to dive. Pour soil into the pots for seedlings, which is prepared in advance: sand, peat and humus are taken in equal quantities, mixed and fertilizing containing phosphorus is added.

This element strengthens and develops the weak root system of tomatoes. This is necessary for this variety, since seedlings cannot be deepened when planting due to the fact that “Klusha” is a low-growing bush. Therefore, our task is to develop the root system.

Don’t worry that the plant seems to stop growing, this is because roots are growing. At this time, loosen the soil carefully with tweezers.

Feeding seedlings

When five leaves appear, repeat the fertilizing procedure, but this time with liquid, and for prevention, treat the seedlings with a pest repellent, for example, Confidor.

If the leaves of the seedlings are closed, space them away from each other to allow light access to the stems, protecting the plants from stretching.

Ideal finished seedlings are bright green, stocky, with buds in the first inflorescence.

Transplanting seedlings into the ground

When planting plants in the ground, prepare a hole at least 25 cm deep and pour plenty of water with potassium permanganate heated in the sun. Then phosphorus-containing fertilizer is poured into it, according to the folk recipe - a scoop of ash from burnt straw or grass, weeds, but not from the barbecue! Onion and garlic peels are added to prevent pests. The holes are made at a distance of 20–30 cm from each other and the same amount between the lines.

Plant the tomatoes carefully, trying not to expose the roots, fill the hole with earth and mulch around the plants. Mulch is best made from pine needles or chopped straw: a cushion 5 cm thick

Mulch is best made from pine needles or chopped straw: a cushion 5 cm thick.

This will have a noticeable effect:

  • The earth will not dry out;
  • At night it will not cool down, and during the day it will not heat up;
  • Weeds will not appear;
  • There is no need to loosen the soil after watering;
  • On such a pillow, the fruits will not deteriorate, even if the plant falls under their weight. This method was called “collective farm” when the bushes were not tied up.

Plant care

This method is very suitable for the “Klusha” tomato, because we will grow it in 4 stems, each of which will have 3–5 tassels, under the weight of the branches they will lie on the ground, because it is usually the main stem that is tied up.

The lower leaves are cut off as they dry out and turn yellow, giving air and light to the fruits. There are complaints in reviews that the tomato is sour. This is due to a growing error: if the fruits are heavily shaded by foliage and the sun does not reach them, then the taste changes. Don’t be afraid to remove excess greenery, the harvest will thank you.

To prevent tomato plants from getting sick, they are sprayed every two weeks during the season for prevention against late blight and other diseases with “Healer”. It is necessary to process in cloudy and cool weather.

Do you know the rules of watering? It is a huge mistake for anyone who believes that the soil should not dry out.

The tomato belongs to the culture where “rarely and accurately”, that is, we water it abundantly, at the root, so that water does not get on the leaves and stem.

Hoses buried in the ground for drip irrigation are popular now, but there is a method that has proven itself. It is simple and reliable: it involves digging to the root when planting the bottle with the neck down and the bottom cut off. When watering, you can pour water into such a container several times, allowing it to gradually absorb. This method helps to know the amount of water poured under the plant. It is convenient to plant root feeding in them.

By following the rules of planting and care, you will get the expected result.

Tomatoes under the funny but kind name “Klusha” will bring you a lot of joy.

Good harvests and new discoveries!

Growing and caring for the plant

A special feature of growing this tomato variety is planting by seedlings. No matter how hardy Kubyshka tomatoes turn out to be, you cannot plant the seeds directly in the ground. When planting seedlings, it is advisable to choose a location further south so that the tomatoes receive sufficient heat and light. There are rules for feeding tomato seedlings.

When planting in a permanent place, 6 seedlings can be placed per 1 m², maintaining a distance between holes of 60-70 cm. Water the plant depending on the condition of the soil. If it has dried out, then you can safely water it. To preserve moisture longer, the soil under the bush is covered with dry leaves and straw. Mulch the soil.

An important feature when caring for a plant is weeding or loosening the soil. What does it give? The earth is enriched with oxygen, freed from excess moisture, the roots are strengthened and actively grow deeper into the ground. Weeding makes the bush healthier and reduces the likelihood of plant disease.

In their reviews, vegetable growers share their personal experiences of growing tomatoes. Their statements help many to objectively evaluate this variety and make a decision about growing it.

Valentin Sergeevich, 57 years old, St. Petersburg:

“As you know, the soil in our region is not the most favorable for planting tomatoes, and high humidity is not at all desirable for growing this crop. But the Kubyshka tomatoes withstood temperature changes and other unfavorable conditions. The harvest was a great success; we managed to collect 15 kg of tomatoes from the garden. And they taste excellent. The fruits turned out sweet and juicy.”

Raisa Petrovna, 52 years old, Voronezh:

“When I saw the rich seedlings, it became immediately clear that the harvest would be good. Although the summer turned out to be cool and rainy, the tomatoes produced great fruit. Formation was carried out in one stem. The variety is very good and hardy, so I recommend it to everyone.”

An interesting review from a gardener who planted tomatoes in open ground.

Olga, 41 years old, Moscow:

“Since late blight appears mainly from high humidity, I was afraid that the plant would get sick. The summer turned out to be very rainy and the air humidity was high. I had to pick the tomatoes at the beginning of August, and they began to ripen perfectly in the boxes. The harvest turned out to be quite good. Before planting the seedlings, I placed Superphosphate, ash and fertilizer granules containing a balanced set of essential minerals in the holes. I used grass clippings and nettles as mulch. I decided for myself that next year I will plant seeds for seedlings not in March, as usual, but at the end of February, and I will grow seedlings exclusively in a greenhouse.”

Reviews

Valentin, 57 years old:

“In cool regions, it is quite difficult to grow a good crop of tomatoes. The Kubyshka variety easily tolerates unfavorable conditions. From 1 bed we managed to collect 15 kg of fruit. The tomatoes are tasty, sweet, juicy. The variety is my favorite."

Raisa, 52 years old:

“As soon as I saw the luxurious seedlings, I immediately realized that the harvest would be rich. I was very pleased with the result. The Kubyshka variety is high-yielding, hardy and undemanding.”

The Kubyshka tomato is gaining immense popularity. Many summer residents give their preference to this variety.

Gardeners' opinion

Good afternoon! I would like to share my experience of growing tomatoes of the Kubyshka variety. One of the most unpretentious and productive species I know. Confidently withstood the cool Moscow summer. No special fertilizers or insecticides had to be used. Watering, four feedings and periodic loosening were enough. The berries grew fleshy and sweet. Well suited for canning. Some of the tomatoes were picked green and ripened perfectly at home. They were stored for a long time, until the beginning of November they made a salad with them. I managed to make some tomato puree for my grandson. The child was pleased. I recommend the variety!

Vladislav Gorelkin, 59 years old.

For several years now I have been listening to positive reviews from neighbors about the productivity of the Kubyshka tomato variety. For the first time I decided to plant tomatoes. The Leningrad region is not a place with the most fertile soil and favorable climate. The variety has withstood high humidity and temperature changes. I reaped an excellent harvest, 15 kilograms of tomatoes from the garden. I liked the sweet taste. The variety is suitable for canning and as an ingredient in vegetable salads. Next year I will allocate a larger bed for planting.

The tomato variety Kubyshka impressed me! Preparatory work began in March. The seedlings turned out to be promising. Despite the rainy, cool summer, the tomato bore fruit perfectly. The most difficult thing is to form one stem. The variety is not capricious. I recommend.

Diseases and pests

Even if you have good immunity to diseases, you need to remember about preventive measures:

  • In the fall, after harvesting, remove all plant residues from the garden beds, and then be sure to burn them;
  • Use disinfected seed material;
  • Maintain crop rotation;

Grow in beds after legumes, carrots, cabbage or herbs. Planting after peppers, eggplants or potatoes is not recommended.

  • Avoid dense plantings;
  • It is not recommended to apply manure and fresh compost to the beds; apply only humus and well-rotted compost;
  • During cultivation, treat the bushes with copper-containing preparations;
  • Use fungicides and insecticides to treat infected plants.

General recommendations for growing

Unlike regular tomato varieties, cherry seeds do not need to be soaked. They must be sown immediately in boxes prepared for planting. The optimal soil option is four parts black soil and one part sand. The seeds need to be sown shallow, after which they need to be watered with warm water and covered with cling film or glass. When the first shoots appear, it is recommended to remove the film. This usually happens on the 5th day after replanting. After the sprouts have strengthened, gardeners recommend thinning, leaving only the strongest shoots. If planting was rare and not all seeds sprouted, you can do without this procedure. From time to time it is necessary to water and loosen the soil. Once every two weeks you can feed the seedlings with fertilizers. Seedlings should be transplanted to a permanent place before flowers begin to appear on the bushes; it is best to do this no later than a month after the emergence of seedlings. If you have chosen tall tomatoes with small fruits, make sure there are stakes and tie up the plants. Cherries do not need pinching; it is not recommended to trim the main leaves. This can lead to a lack of fruiting.
