The variety has an interesting history of origin. Kosovo was developed by an American after a trip to Yugoslavia (seeds were collected here, which became the basis for selection). The tomato is perfectly adapted to hot weather in midsummer. It shows stable setting regardless of upward temperature changes.

- indeterminate growth;
- large fruit;
- mid-ripening;
- vigorous bushes (height 1.8-2 m).
The variety has 2 subspecies, which have outwardly similar bushes and types of brushes; the differences relate exclusively to the shape and color of the tomatoes. In the first type, the fruits resemble a heart and have rich raspberry flesh. The latter have a glossy red skin and a flattened shape.
8-10 fruits ripen on 1 plant with an average weight of about 0.5 kg.

Preparing land and material for planting

Landing
The variety is cultivated through seedlings. Seeds are sown from the 2nd decade of February and throughout March. Pre-processing is reduced to the following procedures:
- disinfection with potassium permanganate;
- stimulation with aloe juice or drugs Epin, Agat, Zircon.
The sowing depth is 2 cm, the seeds are planted in moist soil. For tomatoes, purchase a special mixture for tomatoes and peppers or prepare turf soil. The following components are first added to it:
- like sand;
- peat;
- compost;
- vermiculite
Add 25-30 g of phosphorus-potassium additive to 10 kg of mixture.
What conditions are necessary for high-quality strong seedlings:
- humidification with warm water 24-25 degrees;
- compliance with the temperature regime (before germination 25-27 degrees, after germination 20-22 degrees);
- fertilizing 2 times (Kemira, nitroammofoska, mullein solution);
- picking and transplanting into separate cups if there are 2 leaves.

Growing and care
Bushes are planted in beds at the age of 50-58 days
Per 1 m2 no more than 2 plants are placed under the film and 3 in open areas.
A handful of compost and Red Giant fertilizer are poured into the holes. Maintain a step of 50-60 cm between plants.
Nuances of agricultural technology:
- conducting in 2-3 barrels;
- preventive measures against pests;
- watering 3-4 times a week;
- fertilizer with organic matter and minerals, complexes (Fertika, Agricola, Effect).
Feeding is required once every 12-14 days, alternating root and foliar methods.
Features of cultivation
We recommend sowing the seeds of this tomato for seedlings 60-65 days before the intended planting in the ground. When planting seedlings in a permanent place per 1 sq. up to 4 plants are placed per meter of plot.
If you have grown Kosovo tomatoes , please leave feedback about them in the comments. What kind of fruits did you have - heart-shaped or flat-round? What did you like about this variety or what disappointed you? Will you grow it again? If possible, attach to your review a photo of the entire bush as a whole or individual fruits you grew. Thank you!
This is a natural variety of tomato. Therefore, we recommend taking seeds from a ripe fruit and using them for planting in subsequent seasons.
Characteristics and description of the Kosovo tomato variety
Among the varieties of tomatoes there are those whose fruits can be large. These plants include the Kosovo tomato. The name came about because an American living in New Zealand visited Yugoslavia. In Kosovo, he collected tomato seeds and named the variety where he acquired them, passing them on to a collector. This is how an unusual variety appeared, the weight of the fruits of which can reach 500 – 800 grams and more.
Characteristics
The description of Kosovo tomatoes consists of the following properties:
- This is one of the mid-season varieties. Ripens within 78 – 80 days. Can reach a height of up to 2.5 meters. Designed for growing in greenhouses.
- There are two varieties of Kosovo: some tomatoes are raspberry-colored and shaped like a heart, others are red and flat-round in appearance. The leaves are dark green, not densely arranged. Inflorescences appear on 7–8 leaves.
- The fruits are tasty, with a sweetish aftertaste. Tomatoes are highly productive. Tomatoes have a small number of seeds, are fleshy but juicy. Suitable for preparing salads for the winter, extracting juice and eating fresh.
Features of care
Kosovo is grown using seedlings. Sowing of seeds is carried out in mid-February. It is recommended to first soak the seeds and treat them with potassium permanganate.
For sowing you will need soil purchased from a specialized store. It needs to be warmed up and watered well. Draw grooves at a distance of 2 cm. Sow seeds in them, cover with film and place in a warm place.
After the seeds begin to sprout, it is recommended to remove the film and place the box with the plants in a bright place. For better development of seedlings, it is recommended to illuminate them with a daylight lamp.
When the first true leaf grows, the tomatoes are planted in separate containers. While the seedlings are growing, care must be taken on the windowsill so that the soil does not dry out.
When the seedlings reach the age of 65 days, it is recommended to plant them in a greenhouse, maintaining a distance of 40x60 cm. This time approximately occurs at the beginning of May. After planting, it is advisable to immediately attach the seedlings to a support and water them well. An important condition for care is loosening the soil and fertilizing 2 times a month.
Description
The bush is powerful and spreading. The crop is grown in two or three stems, tied to a support, and the lower leaves and shoots are removed. This variety produces beautiful, very tasty fruits. The first flower clusters of the Kosovo variety appear at the end of June. The variety has the advantage: the fruits are not affected by gray rot and do not crack.
Kosovo is a mid-season variety with high yields. Its distinguishing characteristic is its large, fleshy, pink fruits. There are not many seeds in the tomato chambers. A positive quality of the variety can be considered the possibility of ovaries appearing at high temperatures. With proper care and agricultural technology, achieving positive results will not be difficult.
- Long shelf life.
- Resistance to transportation over long and medium distances.
- High sugar and lycopene content in fruits.
- The fruits in some cases reach 700 grams.
The disadvantages include the impossibility of whole canning.
