Tomatoes have become widespread among gardeners due to their taste and range of useful and nutritious nutrients. The variety of frost-resistant varieties allows them to be grown even in regions with harsh climates.
The Parodist tomato variety was bred by Russian breeders and received recognition outside our country. It has high yield, excellent taste, resistance to a number of diseases, and is easy to grow and care for. Let's look at the characteristics of this variety and find out why it is unique and how to get a rich harvest.
Description of the variety
Parodist is a determinate, low-growing and early-ripening variety of tomatoes. The time from the first shoots to ripening is three months. The culture is suitable for cultivation both in open ground and in greenhouses. Plant height is 40-50 cm.
High yield is the main advantage of the Parodist variety. With proper care, up to 3-3.5 kg of fruits are harvested from each bush. The tomatoes are red, with pronounced ribbing, have a flat-round shape, and reach a weight of 140-160 g.
Reference. In the Central Black Earth Region and the North Caucasus, Parodist is grown in open areas, and in central Russia it is cultivated in greenhouses.
Pros and cons of low-growing tomatoes
First, I will name the positive aspects of such varieties:
- although the fruits were mostly lying on the ground, not a single fruit, not counting the obviously overripe and cracked ones, rotted;
- all the varieties described above are very productive and literally bursting with fruit;
- creeping tomatoes are very unpretentious, they did not suffer from anything, regardless of the weather, you can rely on them even in a “non-tomato year”;
- Most of the low-growing varieties are very early, we were one of the first to collect their fruits;
- indeed, they did not require any garter or shaping;
- due to early ripeness and stability, it can be sown directly into the ground and grown in open ground, if necessary, under very low cover;
- such a tomato is not afraid of weeds, except for very aggressive ones, this is due to the fact that the bushes are so dense that sunlight does not pass through them to the soil, which suppresses the weeds;
- all such varieties are excellent for canning;
- bushes are resistant to strong gusts of wind.
But such tomatoes also have disadvantages. Based on the results of growing five varieties of creeping tomatoes, I can say that at the moment I have not yet found truly tasty ones (compared to later ones). All the fruits had an average tomato taste, and I mainly used them as technical varieties.
We simply looked at the first ripened fruits, since they were not visible in the dense foliage of the heavily branched bushes. To collect the entire harvest, you need to regularly sit down at each bush and look through them, pushing them apart with your hands.
It was a mistake to plant some of the bushes in the greenhouse, since each bush occupied more than a square meter of area in width, and in this place it would be possible to plant several indeterminate tomatoes that would also grow in height.
We grow seedlings
Pay attention to the date the seeds were collected or released. If more than two years have passed since this moment, this material is unsuitable for planting. To identify “empty” seeds, dilute ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and pour the seeds into it. After 30 minutes, throw away all the floating seeds: they are not suitable for germination. 5-6 days before planting, harden the seeds.
Buy soil for seedlings at a specialty store. You can add soil from the garden to it so that the bushes can more easily adapt to the soil when transplanted. To prevent infection of seedlings by fungi and viruses, it is recommended to properly calcine the “garden” soil in the oven.
The rules for growing seedlings are no different from the standard ones:
- Plant seeds at a depth of 1-2 cm.
- Before the first shoots appear, cover the soil with film.
- Provide your home beds with timely watering.
- Maintain the temperature in the room.
- Place the boxes with seedlings in a well-lit place.
- Use artificial lighting to increase the length of daylight hours to 16 hours.
When two true leaves appear, pick the bushes. This is necessary to accelerate plant growth and promote the development of more powerful roots. Start hardening young tomatoes 10-14 days before planting in a greenhouse or open ground. To do this, take the trays with seedlings outside for 3-4 hours every day.
Recommendations for cultivation
Tomatoes are grown in different regions of Russia. The plant's resistance to stress and the ripening of fruits under cool summer conditions have expanded the boundaries of cultivation of the variety. The method of cultivation depends on the climatic characteristics of the region, preferably a protected place - a greenhouse or greenhouse. Planting method: seedlings.
The production of healthy seedlings is facilitated by:
- Plant seeds 1–2 centimeters deep.
- Timely watering.
- Setting the temperature in the room.
- Place the seedlings in a well-lit place.
- The duration of daylight is at least 16 hours.
- Pre-hardening, a week before planting.

The variety is not whimsical. It can be planted densely; up to nine bushes feel comfortable on one square meter. The planting scheme recommended by the originator is 50 x 40 cm. For successful growth, it is enough to follow the established rules of agricultural technology for low-growing tomatoes: water, feed, loosen and weed.
IMPORTANT! The variety does not require shaping or pinching.
Tomato care
Parodist is an unpretentious variety, not afraid of stress and resistant to disease. Plant six bushes per square meter. m. Timely watering, hilling, removing weeds and fertilizing will help achieve high yields. This is an important part of crop care.
To protect against parasites, aphids, slugs, caterpillars, spider mites and whiteflies, treat the bushes with insecticides before the flowers and ovaries appear. Fertilize with organic fertilizers when transplanting into the soil, flowering and fruiting. Natural folk remedies are best suited for fertilizing the soil.
The most famous of them:
- infusion of eggshells;
- yeast solution;
- fertilizer from rotted grass or nettles.
Features of growing in a greenhouse and open ground
The variety is easy to care for. When grown in open ground, pinching and bush formation are not carried out, no special measures are required. Water, hill and feed your tomatoes, and they will give you a good harvest.
Important! Low-growing tomatoes do not require staking, but with abundant fruiting they place supports under the heaviest branches.
There are some subtleties when cultivating Parodist in a greenhouse:
- form the bush into three stems;
- provide regular ventilation to avoid the development of root rot and fungus;
- To prevent diseases, use special products from a gardening store (folk remedies do not always help).
Features of cultivation and care
This variety is grown by seedling planting. The growing location, a greenhouse or open ground, is selected based on weather conditions. However, regardless of this, the rules for growing seedlings are standard.
First of all, seed material is selected:
- The seeds should not be old - no more than 2 years should have passed since the date of release.
- The seeds should not be empty or dried out; you can use a simple method to select them.
Mix half a spoonful of salt in a glass of water. Place the seeds there and leave for half an hour. Remove the floating seeds - they are not suitable for planting, the rest can be planted.
What soil is suitable for growing seedlings?
It is recommended to purchase special soil from a gardening store, because it contains the necessary microelements for the development and growth of seedlings. You can also add soil from the site so that later the plants take root faster, but then it needs to be warmed up thoroughly so that no fungal or viral diseases remain in the soil.
After all this, you can start planting seeds:

- Place drainage at the bottom of the container.
- Fill the soil - it should be light and loose.
- Make shallow furrows (no more than 2 cm deep) and plant the seeds.
- After all this, cover the container with film and leave in a warm place for several days until the seeds germinate.
Important! As soon as the first shoots appear, remove the film immediately, because if this is not done in a timely manner, high humidity can negatively affect young plants.
After this, periodically water the sprouts, once full-fledged 1-2 leaves appear, pick. A week before planting in a permanent place, preliminary hardening is required.
Planting to a permanent location usually occurs in May-June. Sufficiently dense planting of the variety is allowed - per 1 sq.m. You can arrange up to 6-7 bushes. The recommended planting pattern is: 50 by 40 cm.
Subsequent care of the plant is as follows:
- Timely, moderate watering.
- Periodic loosening and weeding.
- And of course, fertilizer (at least three times per season).
Fertilizing the plant should be approached with special attention, because it is an important part of care. It must be performed at least 3 times per season:
- After transplantation to a permanent place.
- During the flowering period.
- During fruit ripening.
Mineral fertilizer complexes are used as bait (you must strictly follow the instructions for use), organic fertilizers, but you must remember the measure, because excessive feeding can cause irreparable harm to tomatoes.
Harvesting and application
Three months after sowing, the first ripe tomatoes appear. Fruiting is abundant and friendly, fruits are set even in unfavorable weather conditions. Up to six tomatoes develop on one bunch. Pick ripe tomatoes from the bush in a timely manner so that more nutrients reach the young ovaries.
The variety does not tolerate transportation well and does not have a long shelf life. If you have such an opportunity, process the harvest immediately at the dacha. Fragrant Parodist with juicy pulp and thin skin is a salad variety that is also suitable for making adjika, ketchup, and winter salads. If the size of the fruit allows, salt and marinate the tomatoes in jars.
Advantages and disadvantages
The unpretentious, high-yielding and tasty Parodist is widely used among gardeners.
It has only two disadvantages:
- does not tolerate transportation well;
- not suitable for long-term fresh storage.
The advantages of this variety include:
- small sizes;
- precocity;
- productivity;
- immunity to late blight and many other diseases;
- fruit setting in difficult weather conditions;
- resistance to cracking;
- friendly ripening of fruits.

Reviews
Parodist is a popular tomato variety for growing. There are many positive reviews about it.
Alexander: “This summer I planted a new tomato variety, Parodist.
Tomatoes are distinguished by their resistance to stress and adverse weather conditions. They do not require additional care measures. An early ripening variety does not need to be tied up or supported. He loves feeding and abundant watering. Seedlings can be planted densely; the plant is very compact. The fruits turned out to be quite large, each weighing about 150 g. Suitable for salads and fresh consumption, I tried drying them. I didn’t find any cons for myself.” Galina: “An excellent variety that has pleased me for several years. But I advise you not to partition it too much; for the first time I planted about 9-10 bushes per 1 square meter. m, so the plants had poor ventilation, they interfered with each other, some got sick, and as a result I lost part of the harvest. But then I took this mistake into account, and everything was fine.”
Nina: “That year I decided to plant this variety on my plot. The summer was quite cool, but Parodist did not disappoint - he pleased me with a bountiful and very tasty harvest. I grew it in a greenhouse and planted exactly 10 bushes per square, as described in the material. During the entire growth period, I applied fertilizing only three times – and it grew.”
