The artists overdid it

Looking for seeds of this variety on the shelves of seed stores, you can see bags with the name “Room Surprise” from “Gavrish”, but in the photo there are beautiful small tomatoes of an oval, plum-shaped shape and the weight is indicated up to 60 g.

In fact, the variety has round fruits, and apparently when printing the photo it was overstretched, and then someone unknowingly submitted the description with oval fruits. The weight is also not correct. And the tomato sprig in the picture is omitted, but the “surprise” perfectly holds its tomatoes on the stem.

Among the main advantages of the variety:

  • very beautiful, even, small fruits;
  • compact bushes suitable for greenhouses, flowerpots, open beds;
  • the plant does not need to be shaped;
  • resistance to major diseases;
  • good yield.

Features include sensitivity to soil nutrition, the need for careful watering and frequent fertilizing.

Disease resistance

Growing “Room Surprise” tomatoes indoors will not require any additional processing.

The registration commission did not provide data on the resistance of the variety in the garden, but to be reliable, all preventive measures should be taken.

Experienced vegetable growers regularly treat their plantings with fungicidal preparations, and this is what guarantees high yields.

In order not to lose a single tomato, it is enough to follow a number of simple rules:

  1. Alternate planting tomatoes, observing crop rotation. Return the tomato to its original place no earlier than after 3-4 years;
  2. Do not use the same fungicidal preparation throughout the entire season, alternate them using different active principles, this will prevent microscopic fungi from becoming accustomed to the protective agents;
  3. Start processing when the ovary is the size of a pea, and then after 15-20 days, depending on weather conditions.

Features of planting and growing tomatoes Indoor surprise

The time for sowing seeds for seedlings must be calculated so that by the time the plants are planted, their age is 60–65 days. So, in cold regions it is better to start sowing tomatoes in the first half of April, and in places with a warm climate, planting can be done as early as March. If you are going to plant bushes in a greenhouse, then you can sow them 2 weeks earlier.

For planting, use a wide but shallow container filled with light, nutrient-rich soil with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. Procedure:

  1. The soil is moistened, seeds are laid out on its surface according to a 2x2 cm pattern.

    Tomato seeds are laid out on the soil surface at intervals of 2×2 cm

  2. Cover them with a layer of earth 10–12 mm thick.
  3. Cover with film and place the container in a dark and warm place for 3–5 days until the first shoots appear.
  4. Then the container is opened and transferred to a well-lit place.

Features of cultivation

Sowing seeds for indoor cultivation can be done at any time of the year. However, it should be taken into account that as soon as the seeds sprout, they need to be illuminated for 3-4 days, 24 hours a day. Next, the duration of daylight hours should be reduced, but not less than 16 hours. If it is not possible to provide additional light, postpone sowing to the beginning of March.

Sowing a tomato can be done in the following sequence:

  • Soak the seeds in a damp cloth and place in a warm place for 2-3 days;
  • Fill the tub with fertile soil and compact it;
  • Spread the sprouted seeds over the surface at a distance of 2-3 cm;
  • Sprinkle 1-1.5 cm of soil and spray with warm water from a spray bottle;
  • Wrap in a plastic bag and place in a warm place.

After 5-7 days, shoots will appear. Now you need to lower the temperature to 18 ᵒC during the day and to 14 ᵒC at night and place it on the brightest windowsill in the apartment.

During growth, seedlings should be watered with warm water so that the earthen ball is completely moistened, but water stagnation does not occur.

Seedlings need to be planted in the phase of two true leaves, and this can be done directly into those pots or tubs where the plant will continue to grow.

Tomato "Room Surprise" characteristics and description of the variety indicate that by planting such a bush you can easily decorate a room and loggia, patio and terrace. The fruits obtained from a beautiful plant will be even more pleasant.

Harvesting

Tomatoes in the greenhouse ripen in July. You need to wait until the tomatoes are completely or almost completely ripened - the color of the skin should be pink or red. Tomatoes ripen almost at the same time, the fruiting period is not extended, so it is convenient to pick the fruits from the branches. All tomatoes are collected in 3-4 passes. The last green tomatoes remaining on the branches must be picked before frost, otherwise they will freeze and will not be suitable for food. Green tomatoes are kept in a warm room in a dark place; in a couple of weeks they will ripen.

Attention! Sometimes tomatoes are ripened on a windowsill. In this case, the tomatoes must be constantly turned over to achieve an even, uniform skin color. . After harvesting, all tops from the greenhouse are removed, dried and burned

The soil in the greenhouse is dug up and fertilizers are applied for planting next year. When fertilizing in the autumn, spring fertilizers are abandoned.

Transplanting seedlings

The seedlings are moved to a permanent place only after the root system and stems have been strengthened. An indicator of the readiness of a crop for transplantation is the appearance of tassels and flowering. Tomatoes of the Andreevsky Surprise variety should be replanted no later than 2 weeks after these signs are detected.

The fruits will be ready for harvest within 2-2.5 months after planting, if it was done on time.

Delayed planting can seriously affect crop yield and growth. To delay the move to open ground or a greenhouse for a week, you can remove the brushes from the plant.

The soil for replanting is prepared in advance. It is loosened to fill it with oxygen. Moisten it no earlier than 2-3 days before transplantation. The soil should be treated with ash or a solution of potassium permanganate. This will destroy harmful bacteria.

Plants are placed at a distance of 60 cm from each other. For convenience, they are planted in rows, leaving 40-50 cm between them. The bushes should not shade each other, and the leaves and branches should be intertwined.

It is better to immediately prepare supports in the form of stakes and tie up the stems. The plant is tall, and it will be easier for it to cope with the weight of heavy fruits in this position. If you are going to plant this crop in a greenhouse, you need to take care of the space and place for its growth in advance.

Beginning vegetable growers or those who grow this variety for the first time should not forget about the rules for transplanting tomatoes:

  • the soil is preheated:
  • manure is poured into the holes and sprinkled with wood ash;
  • the remaining soil is added on top (this combination will quickly regulate the temperature of the earth).

It is better to replant bushes in the evening, when the plant is not exposed to direct sunlight. The holes should be no more than 20 cm deep.

Rules for planting and care

The soil of the greenhouse is marked into rows, the distance between which is at least 70 cm. The holes are spilled with warm water. Seedlings are planted so that per 1 sq.m. there were about 4 plants. Each plant is immediately tied to the supports. Caring for plantings comes down to watering, weeding and fertilizing the plantings. You only need to water the seedlings with warm water, which will prevent the root system from getting sick from the cold. During the growing season, you can feed them several times with chemicals or organic solutions.

Fertilizer is applied to the soil during watering, and boric acid can be purchased for foliar feeding. Organic substances for fertilizer are added to a large container with water at a ratio of 1:1 and left in a warm place for fermentation. After a couple of weeks, the finished emulsion is diluted 1:10 with warm water and watered at the root.

Conditions for growing tomatoes

The Andreevsky tomato variety has no special requirements for planting and care. Like all tall species, they first go through a period of seedling cultivation. Planting of seeds begins in mid or late March. First, they are disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate. Sow in boxes or containers with nutrient soil, which has also been disinfected. Bury the seeds two centimeters into the soil.

A special feature of this variety is its low requirements for lighting. Therefore, if boxes with seed are placed on window sills, they do not require additional lighting. The usual care for young tomato seedlings are:

  • glaze;
  • fertilizing with minerals and organic matter;
  • loosening the soil;
  • picking seedlings during the appearance of the second true leaf.

Twenty days before planting the seedlings in a permanent place, they begin to take them out, first for a few hours, then into the open air for the entire daylight hours. Hardening is especially useful for seedlings that will be placed in open ground.

It is necessary to transfer to the greenhouse those plants whose stems are powerful and the first flower ovary has appeared on them.

Greenhouse preparation

Since St. Andrew's surprise is a very tall plant, reaching two meters, the best place for it would be a greenhouse. Do not forget that the vaults and walls of the enclosed space should be higher than the tomato stems.

Two weeks before planting tomatoes, it is necessary to warm up the greenhouse well. It is filled with fresh manure, which is poured with hot water. It is best to place the biomaterial along the walls and compact it. In the middle of the room, the manure is distributed, loosened, and nutrient soil is poured. The layer of soil on humus should be at least eighteen centimeters. Before filling the soil, you can sprinkle a layer of wood ash.

Planting tomatoes in a greenhouse

The description of the procedure for transferring tomatoes under film includes the following:

  1. Planting is done at the rate of four plants per square meter. The distance between tomato stems ranges from sixty to seventy centimeters, between rows of plantings - thirty to forty centimeters.
  2. It is better to plant Andreevsky Surprise tomatoes in a greenhouse in cloudy weather, in the evening.
  3. The tomato stems are buried fifteen centimeters into the soil. Long strands of seedlings are placed along the rows and covered with soil.
  4. Tie up the tomato stems immediately, driving pegs nearby. In the greenhouse, you can prepare a trellis in advance with wire stretched along it. Tall stems tied to it will not break and will be easy to care for.

If the planting procedure is carried out on time, the tomatoes will taste great. They will ripen sixty days after planting in closed ground.
