As for irrigation, its intensity directly depends on weather conditions. It’s hot - water more often, cloudy - less often. They are guided solely by the condition of the soil. It should always be slightly moistened.
Contrary to popular belief, you cannot water cabbage every day. The thing is that it will simply get used to easily accessible moisture, and its root system will not go deeper.
It is best to water the crop in the morning or evening, when there is no risk of burning the cabbage leaves. In addition, it is advisable to use settled, not cold water.
Standard watering is once every 2-3 days.
As for fertilizers, they need to be applied three times (twice with early and middle varieties):
- The first time cabbage is fertilized 14 days after planting the seedlings in open ground. As a fertilizer, use a solution of mullein (in proportions of 1 part of the substance and 5 parts of water) or bird droppings (in the proportion of 1 part of droppings and 10 parts of water). At least 1.5 liters are consumed for each seedling. That is, one bucket of solution should be enough for approximately 6 mini-bushes.
- The second time the crop is fertilized after the leaves have entered the intensive growth phase, that is, 2-3 weeks after the first fertilization. This time, a mixture of superphosphate, nitrate and potassium sulfate (proportion 2:2:1) is used as fertilizer. Typically, approximately 50 g of this “mixture” is used per 1 m2.
- The third time the cabbage is fertilized another 14 days after the second feeding. This time a mixture of potassium sulfate and superphosphate is used (proportion 1:2). You can also add some wood ash to the mixture. The standard consumption is about 25 g per 1 bush.
It is worth noting that you should not fertilize cabbage after tying heads, especially if industrial fertilizers are used.
