Tomato Baron is an early ripening hybrid; from the moment you plant the seedlings until the first fruits fully ripen, 90-100 days pass.
The plant is determinate, standard. You can learn about indeterminate varieties in this article. The first brush is formed after 6-7 leaves. The plant is well leafy, the color of the leaves is bright green. The bush is low, 70-80 cm. It has F1 hybrids of the same name. This type of tomato is recommended for cultivation both in greenhouses, greenhouses, under film, and in open beds.

It has very high resistance to tobacco mosaic, cladosporiosis, fusarium, verticillium, and alternaria . After the fruits have reached varietal maturity, they are red in color, round in shape, even, and of the same size. The tomatoes themselves are not very large, 150-200 gr.

In the southern regions it can reach 230 g, but this is rare. The pulp is dense, fleshy. The taste is good, sugary, sweetish. Number of chambers 4-6, dry matter content 5-6%. The harvested crop can be stored for a long time and can easily be transported over long distances. You can compare the weight of the fruits of this variety with others in the table below:

The process of growing and caring for tomatoes in a greenhouse

Most often, tomatoes are grown in greenhouse conditions, so we will consider the main stages of cultivating a plant on protected ground.

  • Initially, you need to prepare a greenhouse where seedlings will be grown, and then adult plants will be cultivated.
  1. dig up the ground, level all the piles, make the soil as light as possible;
  2. add humus and peat. These elements will saturate the soil with nutrients and make it looser;
  3. treat the soil with disinfectants. There are a lot of pathogenic bacteria in the soil after winter; in order to protect plants from their attacks, you need to use one of the modern biological preparations, for example, Fitosporin, Glyokladin, Alirin-B.

  • A few days before sowing, you need to prepare the planting seeds.
  1. check them for germination. Dissolve a small amount of salt in a glass of water and place the seeds. Good seeds will sink to the bottom (which means they have a full endosperm), empty ones will float to the surface;
  2. To stimulate germination, treat the seeds with a growth stimulant. You can use the drug "Energen", which increases germination and predisposes the plant to active growth. To soak 10 grams of seeds, you will need 50 ml. dissolve 8-10 drops of the drug in water, soak the seed for 6 hours.
  • Sowing seeds:
  1. make small grooves, 2 cm deep;
  2. water the soil with warm water (let it soak well);
  3. place the seeds at a distance of 2 cm from each other;
  4. Sprinkle with a 1 cm layer of soil, pour warm water again.
  • Greenhouse climate:
  1. the air temperature for normal seedling growth is +23-26 degrees;
  2. air humidity 60-65%.

  • Replanting and caring for plants:
  1. transplant tomatoes into separate holes 40-50 days after germination;
  2. the holes need to be fertilized with mineral fertilizer (1 teaspoon per hole), water them generously with warm water;
  3. Place 3 plants per square meter;
  4. Adult tomatoes need to be watered once every 5-6 days;
  5. To reduce the evaporation of moisture from the soil, mulch it. Covering the soil will keep the root system warm and not overheat, which will contribute to the active growth of the plant;
  6. 20 days after planting the seedlings, in order to strengthen the plants, they can be sprayed with the Epin-Extra growth stimulator. The working solution is prepared from one ampoule of the drug and 5 liters of water. It is necessary to spray tomatoes only in the evening;
  7. Pests rarely appear in a greenhouse, but it is still worth monitoring the condition of the plants;
  8. In order for the fruits to ripen faster, after the tomatoes have formed (technical ripeness), they can be sprayed with a solution based on regular iodine. Dissolve 5-6 drops of iodine in 5 liters of water and treat the green mass of the plant along with the fruits.

Characteristics

Baron F1 tomatoes were bred in Russia in 2000 and received state registration as a variety recommended for film shelters and open ground in 2001. Since then, they have been in steady demand among amateur gardeners and farmers.

The highest yield results in unprotected soil are obtained in the southern regions. Kuban, Voronezh, Belgorod and Astrakhan region are ideal. In the middle zone, for a guaranteed harvest, it is better to cover this variety with film. In more northern regions, in the Urals and the Far East, it is grown only in greenhouses.

In the table below you can see what the yield of this and other tomato varieties is:

Variety nameProductivity
Baron6-8 kg per bush
Grandma's giftup to 6 kg per bush
Brown sugar6-7 kg per square meter
Premier6-9 kg per square meter
Polbig3.8-4 kg per bush
Black bunch6 kg per bush
Kostroma4.5-5 kg per bush
Red bunch10 kg per bush
Lazy15 kg per square meter
Doll8-9 kg per square meter

Due to their size, hybrid tomatoes of the “Baron” variety are almost ideal for preparing home canned food and barrel pickles. They will also be good fresh for making salads. Pairs perfectly with other vegetables. Juices and pastes are very tasty and healthy due to the correct balance of acids and sugars.

When creating suitable conditions, you can get 6-8 kg from one bush.

Recommended planting density is 3 bushes per square meter. m, thus up to 18 kg. This is not very much, but the result is still considered very good.

Agricultural technology of tomatoes

Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out 60-65 days before the date of intended planting in the ground. Before planting in the ground, the seed is treated with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate and a growth stimulator.

In containers with prepared soil, make grooves 1 cm deep into which the seeds are laid. In the phase of formation of 1-2 true leaves, a dive is carried out.

Before planting in a permanent place, seedlings are hardened off for 7-10 days to ensure resistance to temperature changes.

The seedlings are transferred to the greenhouse in April, and to open ground after the end of the spring frost period. 3 bushes are planted per 1 m². If the rules of agricultural technology are observed, the hybrid gives a high yield.

Caring for the crop involves timely watering, applying organic and mineral fertilizers, hilling, and loosening the soil. Experienced gardeners recommend mulching with last year's grass and special fiber.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the main advantages of this type of tomato it is worth noting:

  • excellent presentation;
  • wonderful taste of fruits;
  • long fruiting;
  • the fruits do not crack;
  • very high disease resistance;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • high varietal properties of fruits;
  • general unpretentiousness.

The disadvantages usually include not the highest yield and the fact that at the stage of active growth it can be capricious with regard to the watering regime.

Signs of deficiency with photos

Signs of boron deficiency primarily appear on young leaves of cultivated plants:

  • the foliage is deformed - curls from the top of the leaf to the base or becomes bent;
  • the color of the leaves becomes paler;
  • the veins of the leaf blades become brown or black;
  • foliage breaks when bent;
  • the growth point of plants is affected, and the buds located at the tops of the shoots begin to die, and the roots also die;
  • shoots become bent;
  • side stems begin to grow vigorously;
  • flowering practically stops;
  • buds and flowers begin to fall off en masse without forming ovaries.

In the photo below you can see what the leaves of a crop look like when there is a deficiency of this element.

Features of cultivation

Formation of tomato bushes
The main feature of the variety is its very good tolerance to frost and general unpretentiousness.
It is also worth mentioning about high immunity. Seedlings can be planted earlier than other varieties. The bush is formed by pinching, into one or two stems, but more often into one. The trunk needs a garter, and the branches need supports, as they can break under the weight of the fruit.

At all stages of growth, it responds very well to growth stimulants and complex fertilizing. During active development, it is necessary to follow the watering regime; you need to water with warm water in the evening hours. Plants love light, nutritious soils.

As for fertilizers for tomatoes, you can learn more about this topic by reading our articles:

  • Yeast, iodine, ash, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, boric acid.

General information

Hybrid Black Baron f1 is famous for its high yield. Caring gardeners collect more than 3 kg of large fruits from each plant. The bushes grow throughout the warm season, so the variety must be regularly pinched and the stems tied to strong supports. To get the maximum yield of good fruits, you should leave only two stems on one bush.

The first inflorescence is formed above the 7th or 8th leaf. By the way, the foliage of the Black Baron is of an unusual emerald color.

According to the description, the color of the fruit is chocolate or dark burgundy. They are round in shape, and slightly ribbed near the stalk - see photo.

Vitamin-rich Baron tomatoes are delicious fresh. You can also preserve them, prepare all kinds of seasonings from them, or make juice.

A little about the origin of the hybrid

Among inexperienced gardeners there is an opinion that dark tomatoes are genetically modified. Actually this is not true. In our country, such tomatoes were grown when nothing was known about genetic engineering.

Dark tomatoes were bred by amateur breeders, so these wonderful vegetables were rare in Soviet times. They were not particularly popular due to the lack of proper information. Today, the State Register includes a number of dark varieties of tomatoes.

As for the Black Baron specifically, he was bred by Dutch breeders. Fortunately, this hybrid has taken root well in most regions of our country, including the Urals and Siberia. Reviews from gardeners living there confirm this. In colder latitudes, these tomatoes are grown in greenhouses.

Diseases and pests

Tomato Baron has very good resistance to all typical diseases, but we must not forget about preventive measures. In order for the plant to be healthy and bear fruit, it is necessary to follow the watering and lighting regime, loosen and fertilize the soil in time. Then diseases will bypass you.

The most common pests that can be attacked are aphids, thrips, and spider mites. To combat these pests, a strong soap solution is used, which is used to wipe the areas of the plant that have been affected by the insects, washing them away and creating an environment unsuitable for their life. This will not cause any harm to the plant.

In the southern regions, the most common pest of tomatoes is the Colorado potato beetle. It can be collected by hand, but it will be more effective to use Prestige or other insecticides.

This variety is perfect for those who are just starting to grow tomatoes on their plot. Caring for it is not difficult. Good luck to you and good harvests.

Pros and cons of the variety

The Black Baron variety is a hybrid variety, and therefore has some disadvantages. The main disadvantage that causes problems for inexperienced gardeners is the need to form a bush. Another disadvantage of this variety is the fragility of the branches, which require mandatory support. In addition, for good yield, tomatoes must be constantly fertilized.

However, the positive properties of the plant successfully compensate for these minor difficulties:

  • Tomatoes are well transported; they can ripen in the room without losing any of their taste.
  • An excellent table variety suitable for canning, it is good for juices and sauces;
  • The fruits are very tasty and sweet;
  • The plant is more hardy than red varieties and is less afraid of pests.

Today, chokeberry tomato seeds are no longer exotic; they are quite accessible to every gardener; the only question is choosing the right variety. If you decide to choose the Black Baron variety, you will definitely not be disappointed in it.

Black tomatoes: description

Of course, speaking about the main characteristics of such tomato varieties, one cannot fail to note the unusual coloring of the fruit. The taste is also somewhat different from the tomato varieties we are used to. In terms of taste, the fruits are more piquant and have an interesting aftertaste.

In addition to all this, such varieties in their chemical composition contain many substances and vitamins that are very useful for the human body. The same anthocyanins, which are largely responsible for the unusual color of fruits, have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, they have a rejuvenating effect.

Such tomatoes are indicated for people who have vision problems. These tomato varieties have an unusual balance of acidity and sweetness. The sweetness of such fruits is special, and spices and even fruit tones are clearly felt in the aftertaste.

Reviews and recommendations from vegetable growers

Reviews from gardeners growing the Baron hybrid indicate the possibility of obtaining an early harvest of tomatoes with excellent taste.

Antonina Samoilova, 51 years old, Podolsk.

Last season I chose early varieties of tomatoes for planting in the greenhouse. I was attracted by the description of the hybrid Baron, which she grew in seedlings. The main activity when caring for a plant is disease prevention. To prevent crop loss, I periodically spray the plants with fungicides. To increase immunity and accelerate fruit ripening, I treat it with a growth stimulator. Among the early tomatoes, the Baron hybrid is among the first to produce a harvest from the bush. At a time when other plants are just blooming, fruits have already formed on the hybrid. The tomatoes are aromatic and retain their shape well when canned.

Valery Sidorov, 56 years old, Biysk.
