Grape variety Furshetny (18 photos): description, characteristics, cultivation, planting, care and reviews from gardeners

The Furshetny grape is a new hybrid form of grapevine, bred by the Zaporozhye amateur breeder V.V. Zagorulko. Vitaly Vladimirovich chose the well-known varieties Kuban and Podarok Zaporozhye as the parent forms for this grape. His work on developing a new variety was completed in 2008. The resulting grapes, having absorbed all the best parental qualities, showed themselves to be a very promising variety for home cultivation.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Like all plants, this crop has its own advantages and disadvantages, which should be taken into account when purchasing seedlings.

Strengths:

  • good frost resistance;
  • not damaged during long-term transportation;
  • sweet, aromatic, tasty berries;
  • the berries ripen along the entire length of the bunches;
  • high stable yields every year;
  • excellent commercial qualities;
  • strong immunity to most grape diseases.

Rules of care

For abundant fruiting, Furshetny needs careful care, especially in the first year after planting. Only plants with strong immunity bear fruit consistently and are not attacked by pests and diseases.

Mandatory annual work is:

  • watering;
  • feeding;
  • pruning (formative and sanitary);
  • preparation for winter;
  • prevention of pests and diseases.

Knowing the basic nuances, even an inexperienced user can cope with their implementation.

Features of planting

The Furshetny grapes have certain requirements for the planting site. Its bushes are characterized by large size and rapid growth, so the plant needs a lot of space. It is equally important to choose high-quality seedlings for planting and plant them correctly in soil of suitable composition. Let's consider all the nuances of proper planting in more detail.

When to plant grapes

The Furshetny grapes are characterized by rather extended planting periods. Due to their high frost resistance, young seedlings can survive both long cold winters and sudden spring frosts.

Important! If you choose the wrong location, the grape bushes will grow poorly, be susceptible to various diseases and will not produce a good harvest.

Bushes of this variety can be planted at the following time intervals:

  • in spring (from early March to mid-May) - the earlier you plant the seedlings on the site, the better they will take root in the soil. They are not afraid of night spring frosts, but if you delay planting seedlings until the end of spring, they will grow poorly and may not take root on the site at all;
  • in the fall (from the second half of October to the beginning of November) - provided that the soil on the site is not oversaturated with moisture. When planting grape bushes in autumn, their growing season increases. But at the same time, the seedlings must be provided with shelter for the winter so that they do not suffer from frost.

Selecting a site for planting

To get a bountiful and tasty harvest, the selection of a site for planting “Furshetny” grapes must be carried out according to certain rules.

The basic requirements for a site for growing this variety are as follows:

  • the place should be as open to sunlight as possible - in partial shade the bush does not receive enough light and begins to grow worse, and the crop ripens very slowly;
  • grape bushes of the Furshetny variety need the most fertile soil, which can give them strength for active growth. The ideal soil option is loamy or sandy chernozem. The plant cannot be planted in saline soil;
  • The groundwater level in the area with grapes should not be too high. This will lead to flooding of the roots of the bushes and may cause them to rot. If the soil on the site is too saturated with moisture, it is necessary to drain it;
  • Grape roots develop well only in loose and light soil, through which air and water pass well. If the soil in the area with the future vineyard is dense, it constantly needs to be artificially loosened;
  • To prevent the branches of the plant from breaking, you need to plant grapes in a place well protected from the wind.

Important! The soil on the site with the future vineyard must be thoroughly cleared of debris, stones and weeds. Then the area is dug up deeply, and the surface of the soil is loosened.

Selection of seedlings

The secret to successfully growing Furshetny grapes lies not only in proper plant care, but also in purchasing high-quality and healthy seedlings.

Let's look at a few tips on how to choose the right seedlings of the Furshetny variety:

  • You need to buy the product only at specialized fairs, exhibitions or stores. In such places you can find healthy seedlings that have a quality certificate and are properly stored before sale;
  • The roots of a young plant must be moistened and closed from outside air; they are usually packaged in a small bag with moist soil. You cannot buy seedlings with exposed, dried roots, because if the root system dries out, the seedling will not take root even in the most fertile soil;
  • If the purchase of young plants is made in the fall, then it is better to choose seedlings without leaves. Foliage contributes to the rapid loss of moisture and nutrients, as a result of which the young plant becomes weak and reacts worse to planting in open ground;
  • You need to buy grape seedlings only “in season”, so as not to purchase a vine whose artificial ripening is caused by various chemicals. Such a bush may have a beautiful appearance, but does not take root well in the soil, as it is weak;
  • It is recommended to buy seedlings without visible damage, deformation and signs of pest damage;
  • The branches of a young plant always retain their elasticity and flexibility. They crack slightly when bent, but do not break;
  • the surface of the trunk of a high-quality seedling always has a healthy (not overdried) appearance.

How to plant correctly

Before directly planting young seedlings of this variety, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work on the site. It is recommended to do this at least a couple of months before planting the seedlings.

Let's look at the step-by-step instructions for planting “Furshetny” grapes:

  1. A month before planting the seedlings, dig holes in the prepared area measuring at least 80 cm in width, length and depth. The distance between adjacent holes in the same row and between rows must be at least 3 m.
  2. If the groundwater in the area is located close to the surface, then lay drainage made of broken bricks at the bottom of the dug holes.
  3. Pour a mixture of fertile soil and complex mineral fertilizer onto the drainage layer.
  4. Insert a strong vertical support into the hole, which will guide the growth of the seedling in height and support its weight.
  5. Place the roots of the seedling deep inside the hole so that they are not exposed to low temperatures on the soil surface. Carefully straighten them around the trunk.
  6. Sprinkle the roots of the seedling with soil so that an earthen mound forms around the trunk. Its height should be 2–3 cm higher than the topmost bud on the seedling.
  7. Water each bush generously with water.

Propagation of Furshetny grapes

Propagating Furshetny grapes yourself at home is quite simple. Even a novice gardener can handle this procedure perfectly. Cuttings and seedlings of this variety are characterized by a high degree of rooting and survival rate.

The most common method of propagating Furchette grapes is cuttings. Planting material for rooting is harvested during autumn sanitary and formative pruning.

For rooting, vines with a thickness of at least 0.5 cm are used. All shoots are cut to a length of 35-40 cm, leaving at least 3 buds on each. The cut is made at an angle of 45° to facilitate the rooting process.

The algorithm for propagating grapes by cuttings is as follows:

  1. The cut cuttings are slightly dried at room temperature.
  2. The sections are renewed, the cuttings are dipped into a solution of a growth stimulator, for example, Kornevin. The container with planting material is placed in a warm, well-lit room.
  3. After the buds swell, the cuttings are moved for rooting into prepared nutrient soil. It is not necessary to wait for roots to form.
  4. The cuttings are deepened in the soil so that the 2 lower buds are closed. The earth is compacted from above. A small mound is poured around the base of the cutting.
  5. Cover the top with a film or plastic bottle to create a greenhouse effect.
  6. After green leaves appear, the cover is removed.

After the appearance of green leaves, the shelter is removed.
Transplantation to a permanent place is carried out only after the first brush appears on the young plant. By this point, good weather should stabilize, with no chance of night frosts.

Landing

Planting holes are prepared for the bushes. Taking into account the power of the variety, the pits are placed at a distance of three meters from each other. Depth - 80-100 cm. Drainage is required - pebbles, broken slate, brick.

Prepare the nutrient mixture by mixing humus, sand, ash, and soil. The hole is spilled with water, part of the mixture is poured into the hole, a grape seedling is placed on this mound and the roots are straightened. Next, carefully sprinkle the plant with soil, tamp it down a little, and mulch it. Straw, hay, and mown grass are suitable for mulch.

Supports for future trellises are placed in advance at the planting site. As the vines grow, they tie the branches to the wire.

Harvest and storage

The Furshetny variety, depending on the climatic conditions of the region, belongs to the early or middle species. With a bountiful harvest, peak harvesting occurs in September.

You should not allow the bunches to become overripe on the bushes - this will deteriorate the taste of the berries.

When harvested in a timely manner, the bunches are well stored in ventilated, cool areas. A small amount of harvest can be placed in the lower compartment of the refrigerator.

Furshetny grapes are a popular and promising variety, which is characterized by a tasty, stable harvest. But to achieve maximum productivity, the crop needs competent and timely care, as well as the creation of optimal growing conditions.

Characteristic

Furshetny grapes (variety description and photos are given for informational purposes) are characterized by a short growing season, which lasts for 125 days. Fruit ripening occurs at the end of August or beginning of September. At the same time, the berries can be stored on bushes until October.

The vine is quite strong and grows quickly. Up to 14 high-quality shoots can be formed per 1 m2. The yield rate is high, which allows you to collect up to 50 kg of grapes from the bushes.

Frost resistance is quite high, so the variety can withstand temperatures down to -22 ℃. A fan-shaped, standard-free form is suitable for the plant. It is advisable to prune the vines by 8 buds, while up to 50 buds should remain on the bush.

The grape clusters are large, cylindrical, branched and moderately dense. One bunch reaches approximately 800 g and 35 cm in length.

Fruit characteristics:

  • weigh about 16 g each;
  • barrel-shaped, oval-elongated;
  • the shade can vary from dark blue to black;
  • the skin is covered with a dense coating of wax;
  • the pulp is sweet, juicy and fleshy;
  • the skin is tender and does not separate from the pulp during eating;
  • The taste is pleasant, with a slight aftertaste of mulberry or raisins.

The varietal berries can be eaten fresh, used for wine and winter preservation.

Fruits can be transported over long distances, stored in refrigerated compartments or a dry, ventilated place for a long period of time.
