History of selection
The Black Velvet apricot variety was formed due to cross-pollination of the apricot tree (American black) and black cherry plum. Breeders N.I. Vavilov, G.V. Eremen, as well as A.V. Isachkin are the creators of this type of fruit tree. It is known that an unusual type of apricot was obtained during free pollination in the Crimea at the VNIIR experimental breeding station. In 2005, this black variety of fruit tree was included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region.
Black velvet was obtained by breeding apricot with cherry plum
Reviews about the variety
I have a Black Velvet apricot growing. Fruiting is regular, conditions are harsh. The color of the fruit when ripe is black. The size of a medium cherry plum. The taste is first cherry plum, then apricot.

I grafted black velvet a couple of times, but, unfortunately, it didn’t take root.
