Description of the tomato My Family, method of growing the variety

Rules for planting and care

The Family tomato variety will delight you with a bountiful harvest if you create comfortable growing conditions for it. And for this you need to take into account some nuances.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

The seeds should first be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Half an hour will be enough. Afterwards, rinse with clean water (necessarily running). Next, they are placed in a solution of boric acid (at a concentration of 0.5 g/l of water), but for a day. In the meantime, it's time to prepare the ashes. A tablespoon of crushed raw materials will do for a liter of water. It is best to prepare the solution in the morning. It is periodically stirred all day and then left to stand.

Tomato seeds of the Family variety are kept in the resulting liquid for 4 to 6 hours. They are first placed in small bags made of gauze folded in several layers. You can also use fabric. After all the procedures, homemade containers are wrapped in another piece of cloth and placed in a glass jar. They will remain in the refrigerator for the next 19 hours. Then they are left near the heater for 5 hours (at + 25 ° C). It is necessary to plant seeds for seedlings 45-55 days before planting bushes in open ground.

The soil mixture for the Family variety tomato is prepared approximately 14 days before planting the seeds. You can use balanced purchased soil. It is already disinfected and enriched with all necessary minerals. You can prepare the soil mixture yourself. Garden soil is mixed with peat and river sand. Additionally, rotted sawdust with humus is added, as well as fertilizers (2 tablespoons of ammonium nitrate and superphosphate per 1 bucket of mixture). Stove ash will also greatly benefit the Family variety tomato. It will enrich the earth with phosphorus and potassium, and also reduce acidity levels.

Planting tomato seedlings of the Family variety includes several stages:

  1. It is necessary to stock up on boxes or tubs.
  2. They are filled with earth. The seeds are placed on the surface at a distance of a couple of centimeters from each other.
  3. Then carefully sprinkle with earth (a layer of 1.5 cm or a little more).
  4. It is necessary to water the planting through a sieve so as not to wash out the seeds. The water should be warm.
  5. After this, the containers are sealed with transparent film and transferred to a warm room with a temperature of + 24-26 ° C.

The first shoots of tomatoes of the Family variety can be seen in about a week. For normal growth, seedlings need an even temperature, regular watering and ventilation. When two fully formed leaves appear, you can start picking. Small glasses of approximately 700 ml are suitable as containers. Three days before picking, the sprouts are fed.

Attention! If you do not use the seedling method, the tomatoes will take longer to ripen.

Transplanting seedlings

The appearance of tomato bushes of the Family variety will tell you when it’s time to move them to a polycarbonate greenhouse. The height reaches 25 cm, and the stem has at least five leaves. Before planting, be sure to water the soil with warm water. This will make it easier for the roots to adapt. You can move tomatoes into open ground only when stable heat has established at night. At first, you can insure yourself with special arches with covering material.

Tomato care

As soon as the first fruits set, the lower leaves of the Family variety tomatoes are removed. The same is done with all subsequent brushes. Over the summer, the trunk is tied to a support several times. For this purpose, use only soft ropes. Extra stepsons are cut off. They shouldn't outgrow.

Tomato Family needs regular watering. After transplantation, the soil is moistened after 2 weeks. Over the next 14 days, the roots will be in the active formation phase. During this period they do not need moisture. Then the tomatoes are watered generously once a week. The water should be settled and warm. The main thing is not to overdo it. The soil should be moist, not flooded. Mulching helps conserve precious moisture. You can simply loosen the soil or use forest litter. In greenhouse conditions, problems with condensation may occur. Droplets of water settle on the leaves and provoke the development of infections. With regular ventilation, you don’t have to worry about your tomatoes.

Fertilizing plays an important role for Family tomatoes. There should be four of them per season. Apply fertilizer at the root early in the morning. This is done only in sunny weather. Be sure to fertilize tomatoes when the fruits on the lower 4-5 clusters are in the process of filling.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Like other modern hybrids, the Family tomato is an almost ideal representative of its genus. He embodied most of the achievements and many years of experience of domestic breeders.

Tomato Family needs timely garter

pros

  • early fruit ripening compared to other varieties;
  • beautiful appearance and uniform size of tomatoes;
  • excellent consumer qualities;
  • resistance to fungal and infectious diseases;
  • high yield.

Minuses

  • inability to independently obtain planting material;
  • the large weight of the fruit obliges gardeners to tie the bushes to supports quite early;
  • the large size is not very convenient for canning tomatoes in small jars.

Characteristics and description of the “Family” tomato

The interest of gardeners in early-ripening tomato varieties has always been enormous. One of these varieties is the Family F1 tomato. There are usually no special difficulties when growing and caring for it. Everyone who has already planted this hybrid is convinced of its high yield and excellent taste.

Characteristic

Tomato Family F1 is an early-ripening hybrid variety that ripens early and bears large fruits. The goal of breeders when developing a new variety is to achieve less susceptibility of the plant to various infections. In this case, the breeders managed to achieve a good result, and this tomato has developed immunity to the tobacco mosaic virus, cladosporiosis, and fusarium. The “Family” tomato fully ripens 115 days after the first shoots appear in the beds. These tomatoes are equally often planted both in greenhouses and in open ground.

Lycopene, contained in the “Family F1” fruits, helps strengthen the human body’s immunity to cancer, as well as heart disease!

The height of the bushes reaches 1 meter 10 centimeters. This may depend on the growing region. The bushes are quite compact and look neat in the beds. The leaf color is usually dark green. The leaves themselves are wrinkled and shaped like a tomato. The inflorescences of this plant contain a large number of flowers, and they set very well in any conditions. Thanks to this, there are no empty flowers on the tomato bunches.

You can harvest an average of five to six tomatoes from each bunch. The weight of the fruit reaches 200 grams, but there are also larger specimens. When the tomato is not yet ripe, a dark green spot is visible near the foot. After ripening, this spot disappears.

The pulp of the “Family” tomato is dense and sugary. In each tomato you can see many chambers, and in each chamber there are a large number of seeds. The smell of the fruit is very aromatic, “tomato-like”. The taste is sweet and sour.

Advantages of the “Family” variety

  • This fruit gives a harvest quite early, which can be harvested at the end of June. A plant with a very high yield. From one bush you can collect 4-5 kg of fruit. And if you follow agricultural cultivation techniques from “A” to “Z”, then the harvest is sometimes 6-7 kg.
  • The tomato feels confident both in the sun and in the shade. If there are fluctuations in outside temperature throughout the harvest season, you will still reap a good harvest. This variety has virtually no barren flowers.
  • The fruits can be collected when they are not yet fully ripe. They ripen perfectly without losing their presentation and taste.
  • They are stored without cracking and handle transportation well.
  • To eat tomatoes fresh, they must be allowed to fully ripen. In other cases, you can pick the crop while it is not yet ripe.
  • Based on the characteristics of the variety, this tomato does not have any disadvantages or special negative features. Its main disadvantage is that seeds cannot be obtained from the fruits. In this regard, the opinion of gardeners is the same: second-generation hybrids lose their original qualities.

Agricultural technology

If you responsibly approach the timing of sowing seeds, if you observe crop rotation, and also provide all the necessary standards of care, an excellent harvest is guaranteed.

Sowing seeds

Before planting in the chosen location, seedlings should be sown 45-55 days in advance. If the need arises, the soil should be moistened, then furrows should be made. Grooves are made every 4 centimeters. You need to spread the seeds 10 mm apart at intervals of about 3 centimeters.

If you do not plan to pick, you can sow the seeds directly into cups or cassettes. In this case, transplanting seedlings into larger containers will not injure the roots. Some tomato lovers use newspaper cups and then plant them directly into them. Boxes, cups and all other containers should be placed in the window that receives the most light. After five to six days, at a temperature of approximately 20-23 degrees, the first shoots will appear.

My favorite tomato varieties

So 2022 has begun. It’s cold and gray outside, but spring is getting closer and closer every day, which means the time for sowing seeds for seedlings is approaching. Probably every summer resident has his own “favorites”. So I want to talk about the tomatoes that I plant every year.

I’ll immediately make a reservation that due to the climate, all my tomatoes grow in a greenhouse. I grow only indeterminate varieties, forming plants into 1 stem. Every year I select and plant 2-3 new varieties of tomatoes, but the main part of the greenhouse is occupied by my “favorites”: 'De Barao black', 'Pepper striped', 'Konigsberg', 'Yellow ball', 'Magic cascade', 'Red date' '.

My tomato “favorites”. The only thing missing is the seeds of the 'Konigsberg' variety

'De Barao black'

Medium-late ripening variety (115–120 days). The fruits are small, weighing up to 60 g, very good for preservation. The advantages of the variety include its fertility, a fairly long fruiting period (I harvest the last tomatoes in October) and relative resistance to late blight.

Tomato 'De Barao black'

'Pepper-striped'

Refers to mid-early varieties (10–110 days). The fruits are elongated, with an original color (this year they grew pepper-shaped, but for some reason without stripes!), weighing up to 120 g, fleshy and juicy, so they go well in salads or preparations such as lecho or borscht dressing.

Tomato 'Pepper striped'

'Konigsberg'

Mid-season variety (110–115 days). Under favorable conditions, clusters of 4–5 fairly large fruits weighing up to 300 g are formed on the plant. The fruits are elongated, fleshy and juicy, and have a universal purpose. I prefer to eat them fresh. Resistant to late blight.

Tomato 'Konigsberg'

'Yellow Ball'

Mid-early variety (105–110 days). Last season it was one of the first to bear fruit. The fruits are small, round, yellow, juicy and sweet, weighing up to 150 g. Table variety.

Tomato 'Yellow Ball'

'Magic Cascade'

This variety belongs to cherry tomatoes. Early ripening (89–90 days). The plant produces long clusters with small rounded fruits weighing up to 20 g. Perfect for whole-fruit canning and drying.

Tomato 'Magic Cascade'

'Date red'

Another cherry tomato. This one is probably my favorite. Medium late (110–115 days). Very prolific. The shape of the fruits really resembles dates, they are very sweet, and are suitable for whole-fruit canning and drying. A huge number of these tomatoes in our family are eaten “without anything”, because they are very tasty)) This variety of tomatoes in my greenhouse is the last to finish bearing fruit!

Tomato 'Date red'

Previously I grew 'Orange date'. In terms of taste, it’s no worse than red, and it’s also a beautiful color. But, unfortunately, agro has stopped releasing this variety for sale separately. I tried to buy a mixture of Dates varieties (red, yellow, orange and pink), but only red and yellow ones grew. So now I only buy 'Red Date'.

Characteristics and description

Bush

“Nastena” has a bush up to 1.2 meters high, of a determinate type; on the street it often does not exceed a meter. There are few leaves on the branches, but the bushes themselves are quite powerful and stable. Leaf color is dark green. The hybrid does not require pinching; therefore, it does not need to be formed either. If we talk about supports, then each summer resident decides for himself whether to tie up the bushes or not, since on the one hand they are strong and low, but on the other hand, if the region is often windy and taking into account the high yield, it is better to play it safe.

Few leaves on the branches also have their advantage - the fruits ripen quickly, evenly, and there is no excess moisture. That is, due to its characteristics, a tomato will help save you energy and time. But it is quite demanding when it comes to fertilizing, in the sense that complex fertilizers will have to be applied both at home - 1-2 times for seedlings, and outdoors - up to 3-4 times. But more on this in agricultural technology, but for now we continue to get acquainted with the characteristics and description of the Nastena tomato variety.

Fruit

Many gardeners prefer this hybrid precisely for the performance of the tomatoes themselves. They are quite compact - 150-200 grams, that is, very convenient for canning in their entirety, but, according to reviews, specimens up to 300 grams can be aged. But there are other advantages.

Description:

  • The remarkable thing about tomatoes is their very good keeping quality and transportability;
  • fleshy tomatoes;
  • there are very few seeds in them, which is another plus for the hybrid, because its seeds are still not suitable for collection;
  • tomatoes have a red tint to the skin, the stalk does not have a green spot, there is no ribbing;
  • shape – round, slightly flattened.

Many people believe that hybrid varieties, although unpretentious, are much inferior in taste to their counterparts, but this is not so. Now breeders have already bred many tomatoes with excellent taste.

Maturation

We have already mentioned several times that “Nastena” tomatoes, both according to reviews and according to manufacturers, are an early ripening variety. That is, you will receive your first fruits approximately 90-100 days after the seedlings emerge.

In each region, the timing is, of course, different; it also depends on the conditions in a particular year and the availability of nutrients in the soil.

Previously, you could also get a harvest if you grew the crop in a greenhouse.

Description of the hybrid

Production agro specialists developed the hybrid in 1999; it was intended for cultivation throughout the country. High resistance to temperature changes contributes to the fact that a good harvest from tomato bushes is collected in different regions of Russia.

It can be grown in a greenhouse with a film coating, with glazing, or in the garden. Tomato is chosen for personal plots and farmland.

The variety is indeterminate and vigorous. The stem has medium branching and foliage, grows up to 2 m. In open ground, it must be tied to supports. Included in the group of early-ripening tomatoes. The first brush is tied above the ninth leaf, and subsequent ones are placed every three.

Fruit characteristics:

  • 7-9 pieces of 100-110 g each ripen on the brush;
  • they have a rounded shape, slightly ribbed surface;
  • color red;
  • a pleasant taste is noted;
  • the skin is dense, glossy, red in color;
  • there is no spot on the stalk;
  • Tomatoes ripen in 95-109 days from sowing the seeds.

We choose tomatoes for different regions of our country

The dependence of yield on the climatic characteristics of the region is quite high for soil-grown tomatoes. It should be remembered that the productivity indicators of any variety will be conditional - they also depend on agricultural technology, growing conditions (soil, location of beds on the site in relation to the cardinal points, cultivation without seedlings or through seedlings, etc.). By following agricultural technology, you can easily get closer to the varietal productivity indicators of the selected cultivar.

Harvesting and application

To transplant seedlings into open ground, stable weather and above-zero temperatures are required. After planting the seedlings in the beds, it is also recommended to cover them with film for the first time.

Landing

Before planting, be sure to carry out procedures to disinfect the soil. The preparations “Bactofit” and “Planzir” are excellent for this. Apply the products to the top layer of soil. Also, do not forget to dig up the beds and remove all debris and old plants from them. When you prepare the ground, place the sprouts in it at a distance of 50 cm from each other. Be careful not to damage the still immature and weak stems.

For 1 sq. m, plant no more than three bushes of the Family variety. Dense plantings only harm the bushes and reduce productivity. For better development, immediately after planting, water the bushes with warm water. Cut off the lower leaves so that they do not take away nutrition.

First of all, the bushes need shaping. As a rule, Family is formed into 2 stems, removing all side shoots and leaving 3-4 leaves. You should not remove stepsons with your bare hands; wear gloves and use garden shears.

Carry out pinching every 5-7 days. Also remove growing leaves during the entire ripening period. Ideally, you should end up with a bush on which there is nothing except trusses with tomatoes.

The Family variety is notable for its large and heavy tomatoes, which means that it is necessary to tie the bushes to a support. Wooden stakes and twine are usually used as support. Place a peg near each bush at a distance of 30-50 cm. As soon as the tomatoes begin to form, tie the bush to a support. If this is not done, the brushes will break under the weight of the tomatoes.

Don't forget to water your tomato beds promptly. It is best to do this in the early morning or evening. Try to ensure that water gets only under the root of the plant, bypassing the stem, leaves and fruits. Excessive humidity leads to cracking of the fruit. For 1 bush, use no more than 0.5 liters of water.

An important stage of growing is feeding. Ideally, gardeners recommend alternating mineral and organic fertilizers.

The most effective fertilizers are recognized:

  • ash;
  • nettle infusion;
  • yeast solution;
  • manure and droppings;
  • aloe juice;
  • "Kornevin";
  • "Epin";
  • "Solution."

Deposit funds every 10-15 days. Pay special attention to fertilizers at the stage of flowering and fruiting of the bush. If you use chemicals, follow the recommendations and dosage recommended by the manufacturer.

Often, if the rules of planting and care are followed, gardeners observe that the bushes are damaged by infections and fungi. The reason for this may be insufficient soil tillage before sowing.

To avoid this, gardeners advise:

  • divide the garden into narrow beds of 2 m each;
  • observe crop rotation and do not sow tomatoes in the same place for more than three years;
  • do not plant the hybrid after potatoes or zucchini;
  • Carefully remove the tops and burn them away from the beds.

If the area is small, it is better not to use chemicals, but to give preference to biological disinfectants. The solutions “Baikal-EM 1” and “Baikal-EM 5” are especially effective.

Diseases and pests

Most often, gardeners complain about late blight, a fungal infection. This enemy of tomatoes attacks the crop year after year and destroys the crop. Signs of late blight are brown spots on the leaves and a white coating. The reasons lie in improper care, high humidity, and an excess of nitrogen-containing fertilizers. For prevention, spraying with a soap solution or a solution based on whey is used.

Tomatoes are also affected by root rot, blackleg and powdery mildew. Diseases affect different parts of the plant, disrupt the body’s metabolism and take away vitamins and minerals from the bushes. A solution of copper sulfate helps get rid of them.

Of the insects, the hybrid is most often attacked by aphids and whiteflies. Outwardly similar to each other, flying insects land in flocks on castings and cover them with white cobwebs. They are perfectly camouflaged, making it difficult to notice pests. For prevention, it is recommended to use wood ash.

The yield of the variety is friendly, so tomatoes are harvested immediately after ripening. It is better to pick along with the stalk so that the vegetable can be stored longer. If you pick a green tomato, it will ripen quietly on the windowsill or balcony. In general, the variety stores well, especially if you place the crop in a dark, dry and ventilated place.

The variety is used in cooking. Used fresh and after heat treatment. The family variety excels as appetizers, salads, side dishes, and soups. It also makes excellent adjika and tomato ketchup.

From 1 m2 they collect 8-9 kg.

Summer care

In summer you need to monitor the number of leaves, inflorescences and stepsons. After the formation of the first fruits, the leaves below are removed. Repeat this procedure when forming fruits in all subsequent clusters.

As a result, when the fruits in the next inflorescence ripen, all the leaves below it must be torn off. During the summer, the trunk must be tied to a support several times with twine or other soft binding. Throughout the season, you need to remove excess shoots and not let them outgrow.

How to water

Watering plays an important role in plant development. The tomatoes are watered for the first time after transplantation after 2 weeks. No watering is required for 2 weeks, since at this time the root system is actively forming. In the future, the plants need weekly, abundant watering.

Growing tomatoes in a greenhouse may be accompanied by the appearance of condensation on polycarbonate and tomato leaves. Condensation is caused by increased air humidity. Moisture that settles on tomato leaves can provoke the development of infection. Regular ventilation solves this problem.

During the entire season you need to carry out at least 4 feedings. Fertilizers have the greatest effect if they are applied at the roots in the morning in sunny weather. Be sure to feed the bushes when the fruits are filling in the lower 4-5 clusters.

Root feeding must be combined with watering. Recipe for a 10 liter bucket of water: ammonium nitrate (20 g), potassium humate 3% (25 ml), magnesium sulfate (10 g), potassium sulfate (30 g).

Fruit collection

Carry out regular harvesting so that the growth of the apical shoot does not stop during the active formation of fruits. Harvest the first tomatoes at milky ripeness. In this way, the development and ripening of subsequent tomatoes is stimulated.

Lyudmila, Perm

The Family tomatoes planted in the greenhouse were a delight. The tomatoes were all as smooth as a selection, weighing from 120 to 150 g. The taste of the fruit is typically tomato, sweet and sour. I made homemade preparations: salted tomatoes, cut them into salads, pickled them. It’s a pity that this is a hybrid and the seeds cannot be released for propagation.

Daria, Ekaterinburg

I read the reviews in winter and bought Family F1 tomato seeds from Agrosemtoms. I tried them this season and did not regret it. The first tomato I picked weighed 413 g, the subsequent tomatoes picked were smaller, but all of good taste. Good yield. The variety turned out to be resistant to diseases, and the germination rate of the seeds was quite good. Grown in a greenhouse.

Description of the Zemlyak variety, its characteristics, yield, growing region

The Zemlyak tomato, registered in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 1996, is recommended for the Ural, West Siberian and East Siberian regions, which indicates its cold resistance and resistance to the vagaries of the weather. It is also grown in any other climate, and since the variety is early ripening and the fruits begin to ripen within 96–98 days after full germination, in the south it is successfully cultivated without growing seedlings, by direct sowing of seeds in a garden bed.

Countryman is one of the determinate varieties; the bush grows to no more than 80 cm in height. In this regard, it is rarely planted in greenhouses: the variety is intended for unprotected soil. The branching and foliage of the plant is at an average level, the leaves are light green in color and of normal size. The first inflorescence and, accordingly, the fruit cluster are formed after the 6th or 7th leaf, the subsequent ones - after 1 or 2 leaves. Each cluster can contain up to 15 fruits.

The bushes don’t need to be tied up, but under the weight of the fruit they can fall to the ground

The fruits are plum-shaped, shiny, and red when ripe. The weight of tomatoes is 70–90 g, the number of seed nests is 2 or 3. There are not many seeds, but it is quite possible to collect them for home growing: Countryman is not a hybrid. The taste of fresh fruits is assessed as good. The main purpose is whole-fruit canning, but tomatoes are also quite suitable for fresh consumption. The fruits tolerate transportation well and are stored well.

The yield for a short plant is very high and, when grown industrially, ranges from 350 to 470 c/ha, which significantly exceeds the yield of the well-known Raketa and Siberian early ripening varieties. The maximum yield recorded in the Omsk region was 778 c/ha. On private farms, up to 4 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one bush, which, when planted tightly, allows about 20 kg of fruit to be harvested from 1 m2 of garden bed.

The variety is resistant to most diseases, but suffers greatly from late blight. It tolerates fluctuations in air temperature normally, but during prolonged cold spells the development of the plant slows down greatly. The formation of a bush, including the removal of stepsons, are not mandatory procedures.

Irina, 24, Moscow One of my favorite tomatoes! This is my second season of planting at the dacha and I’ve been pleased both times. I fed the seedlings before planting, monitored the soil moisture, and periodically loosened the soil. I didn't do anything special anymore. I recommend to everyone.

Gennady Viktorovich, 56 years old, Ufa Although they say that this variety grows in any conditions, I would argue with that. At a temperature of 24-25 degrees, my leaves began to lose their elasticity. The tomato still doesn’t like high temperatures, I lowered the temperature to 16-57 degrees and only then everything became good.

Olesya, 29 years old, St. Petersburg I was rather cool about hybrid varieties, but the “Family” tomato made me change my opinion about them. Incredibly tasty tomatoes, I ate almost five of them at one time! For me, the downside is that the seedlings need to be fed with fertilizers. At first I didn’t want to do this, but I read that it was necessary, this is a feature of all hybrid varieties. If you want a stable harvest, choose this variety, you won’t regret it.

Reviews from gardeners

“We really liked My Family tomatoes. This year the weather was a little let down: there were heavy rains, heat, sudden temperature changes, which could have led to the development of late blight on the bushes, but this did not happen. I had to work a little - tying up the plants in time, pinching and pinching, limiting nutrition, cutting off the lower leaves in a timely manner so that they would not come into contact with the ground.”

Moscow early ripening tomato - description and characteristics

Tomato My family - description and characteristics of the variety

Indeterminate large-fruited variety. It is usually grown in two stems. The fruits are pink-raspberry, the pulp is sugary and juicy. The skin is dense, elastic, and does not crack. The fruits contain a significant amount of dry matter. The bushes are powerful, sloping, and require shaping.

Description of the variety

The My Family tomato is a tall, productive variety with large crimson fruits. Bushes require garters to supports. Tomatoes can be eaten fresh or processed. The leaves have a rich green color due to the high concentration of chlorophyll. The plant can be grown both in greenhouse conditions and in open ground. These tomatoes make excellent juice, ketchup, and paste.

Growing and care

Tomato seedlings are grown in boxes and pots. Seeds are sown in mid-March. Shoots appear on days 7-9. In the phase of four true leaves, the seedlings dive. At the age of 35 days, the seedlings are transplanted to a permanent growing location. Tomato is a heat-loving plant, loves moderate watering, and is demanding of light.

Mistakes of beginner gardeners

Most beginning gardeners believe that seedlings should be started early. And some sow in March, some in February, and others even in February, thinking that such seedlings will yield a very early harvest. But plant biology must be taken into account.

By the time they are planted in the ground, tomato seedlings, for example, which began to be grown in February-early March, are, as a rule, already tall, frail, elongated plants with pale green leaves, although on some, brushes with buds or even flowers.

It is precisely these seedlings that appear on the windowsills of apartments by the end of April - beginning of May. Of course, it is doomed to poor survival rate and loss of a significant part of the harvest. It takes a long time to restore roots, often stunting in growth.

Seedling

Tomato seedlings can be grown in so-called paper honeycombs. Seeds are sown in container cells filled with fertile soil, and then at a certain age (usually no more than 30-35 days), the seedlings are planted in the garden without damaging the root system. Here it continues to grow without stopping for engraftment.

The use of cellular containers allows you to obtain a large number of seedlings in small areas of protected soil due to compact placement.

How to properly plant tomatoes?

Planting tomatoes is a necessary measure and even reduces yield in low-growing varieties. Therefore, in order to avoid loss of yield, determinate tomatoes that are grown in open ground are often not pinched. And more attention is paid to planting such tomatoes in greenhouse conditions in order to plant them more densely and in a minimal area to get the maximum yield and recoup the money spent on caring for the expensive structure.

  1. This also applies to tall tomatoes, which can be planted freely according to a meter by meter pattern and not be planted at all. But due to the limited area of the plots, it is necessary to plant them more densely and intersect them in order to obtain larger fruits and yield per unit area.
  2. One of the frequently used methods of pinching is breaking off shoots by hand. It is better to do this with gloves to protect the skin from the green, corrosive juice, which can cause irritation and even allergies. The pinching itself is best done in the morning or in the first half of the day, when the shoots are juicy and easily break off. The stepson needs to be pinched - especially if it is already large, and not torn off from the main stem. Otherwise, there will be a small wound where the stepson grew. All selected shoots must be taken outside the tomato bed and buried so as not to provoke the development of tomato infections.
  3. It is not recommended to cut the stepsons with scissors or a knife, as this leads to the transmission of a viral infection. If you do use a tool, then after trimming one tomato bush, before moving on to the next, you need to disinfect the tool.
  4. To prevent the growth of new stepsons, you can leave a piece of the stump of the previous one 1-1.5 cm long. Stepchildren should be removed at least once a week.

Pros and cons of the Lopatinskie tomato

Novice gardeners think that large tomato yields can be obtained by working in a greenhouse from morning to night. But if you choose the right set of varieties, you will reduce the time you spend caring for tomatoes and make your gardening work much easier. Today we will tell you about one such variety - this is the Lopatinskie tomato variety. You will learn all about the rules of cultivation, the yield of the variety and get acquainted with farmers' reviews about these tomatoes.

Characteristics and description of the variety

Lopatinsky tomatoes are considered mid-season. From germination to the moment of ripening of the first fruits, 110-120 days pass.

Plant of indeterminate type. This means that the tomato is not limited in height.

The bush grows a lot of foliage and side shoots. The plant needs pinching and bush formation. Experienced tomato growers form a plant with 2-3 stems.

Fruits and yield

The variety is relatively large-fruited. The weight of the fruit ranges from 100 to 500 g. They are round and slightly flattened in shape, dense, fleshy and aromatic, with slight ribbing.

See what they look like in the photo:

The use of tomatoes is universal. They are good both fresh and in preparations for the winter (drying, pickling and pickling).

The yield of the variety reaches up to 10 kg per bush.

The fruits of the Lopatinskie variety have a long shelf life. They tolerate transportation well. This makes them attractive for growing for sale.

Pros and cons of the variety

The variety has both advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages:

  • good yield even in unfavorable weather;
  • ease of care;
  • resistance to late blight.

Among the disadvantages, tomato growers note:

  • tomatoes need to be tied up;
  • To get a good harvest, pinching is required.

Sowing seeds

Tomatoes are grown in seedlings. They are planted on average 60 days before the expected date of planting at the main site. As a rule, this is done in March.

Before planting, it is advisable to soak the seeds in a solution of a growth and development stimulator. It can be "Epin" or "Epin extra". Add 1-2 drops of Epin solution to 100-120 g of water at room temperature and soak the seeds in it before planting in the ground for 4-6 hours.

The growth stimulator will allow:

  • ensure the germination of seeds;
  • will protect future seedlings from pests and diseases;
  • will speed up germination time.

Seedling care

When shoots appear and 2 true leaves grow, the plants are pricked (transplanted into a separate container or container). There they will remain until planting in the main place (in the ground or in a greenhouse).

Disembarkation at the main place

Plants are planted in the greenhouse starting in May. In open ground - later (when the threat of frost has passed on the soil, approximately at the beginning of June).

The best pattern for planting seedlings, recommended by tomato growers, is 50 cm x 60 cm in a checkerboard pattern. This means that a distance of 50 cm is left between the bushes, and 60 cm between the rows.

Caring for mature plants

To get a decent harvest, it is recommended to tie up the plants and, if necessary, remove the shoots.

It is advisable to fertilize plants with boric acid several times a season.

To prepare a working solution, 0.5 teaspoon of boric acid powder is dissolved in hot water (200 ml). The mixture is poured into 10 liters of water. The resulting solution from a spray bottle is generously sprayed onto the aboveground part of the bushes.

Description of the Family F1 tomato and agricultural technology for growing a hybrid variety

Let's look at how to grow a Family tomato, characteristics and description of the variety. Tomato Family F1 is a hybrid variety. When breeding such varieties, breeders aim to increase yield and reduce susceptibility to infections. There are some features of caring for this variety of tomatoes that affect the growth and taste of the fruit.

Characteristics and description of the variety

It is advisable to grow family tomatoes in a greenhouse. When planting in open ground, you need to prepare the seedlings for better adaptation and ensure that the plant does not get sick.

It is important to comply with the following conditions:

  • plant seeds for seedlings in a timely manner;
  • choose the right place for landing;
  • before planting in a permanent place, monitor weather conditions;
  • fertilize the plant in time throughout the growing season;
  • choose fertilizer wisely.

Reading reviews on forums from gardeners and gardeners who have been growing hybrid varieties for many years, you can find a lot of useful information.

How are tomatoes grown?

To increase productivity and protect tomatoes from diseases, you need to treat the seeds. Before planting, they need to be kept in a light solution of potassium permanganate. After 30 minutes, rinse under clean running water and leave for a day in a solution of boric acid (0.5 g per 1 liter of water). While the seeds settle, an ash solution is prepared.

To prepare it you will need 1 tbsp. l. ash and 1 liter of water. The mixture is stirred periodically for one day, after which it is allowed to settle. The seeds need to be kept in this composition for 4-6 hours.

Seeds are placed in all solutions in gauze or fabric bags. Wrap the seeds in additional cloth, place in a glass jar and put in the refrigerator for 19 hours. After this, keep it near the heating device for another 5 hours, ensuring a temperature of +25 ° C

It is important to ensure that the fabric in which the seeds are placed remains damp. This is how the seeds harden

During this period, perhaps some of them will even germinate.

The soil needs to be prepared 2 weeks before sowing. In addition to the earth, the composition should include the following components:

  • river sand;
  • peat;
  • humus;
  • rotted sawdust;
  • ash;
  • fertilizers

Mix all the listed components, it is advisable to pour it well with a light solution of potassium permanganate, and by the time of planting the land will be completely prepared for sowing.

You need to sow the seeds keeping a distance of 3-4 cm. Planting depth is 2 cm. The container should be placed in a bright and warm place until the first shoots appear. For convenience, it is better to take plastic cups.

Three days before transplanting, water the seedlings with potassium nitrate and sodium humate. By the time of transplantation, the plant reaches a height of 25 cm and has 5 leaves. Within 2 months, the seedlings will form, get stronger and be ready for planting in a permanent place.

The optimal period for planting seedlings in the ground is the second half of April or the beginning of May

When transplanting into open ground, it is important that night frosts pass, which have a detrimental effect on the young plant. For the first week, tomatoes planted in the garden should be covered with cellophane while they adapt to new conditions.

Before planting, it is better to water the soil with warm water so that the roots of the plant feel comfortable in the new place.

When caring for tomatoes, it is important to monitor the formation of the bush. As the plant grows, leaves and shoots constantly appear

After the ovaries appear, the lower part of the stem is freed from leaves and the appearance of side shoots (stepchildren) is carefully monitored. They should not be allowed to germinate, as the yield depends on this.

Water the tomatoes with water at room temperature. This can be rain or settled water. Only the root system needs watering

It is important to maintain soil moisture, but not to overwater. It is better to water once every 7-10 days

If tomatoes are planted in a greenhouse, the room must be ventilated frequently, since humid air provokes the appearance of a fungal infection. Feeding with fertilizers is done 4 times during the entire growing season.

Reviews from gardeners about the harvest are positive. Everyone notes the high yield: you can collect 2-2.5 kg of juicy fruits from a bush, even in cold summer. Homemade tomatoes grown with your own hands are much tastier than store-bought ones.

There is no need to be afraid of the development of root-knot nematode, cladosporiosis, fusarium or tobacco mosaic virus.

The best varieties and hybrids of tomato

The earliest ripening of ordinary tomatoes are classified as low-growing (super-determinate). The first inflorescence is formed above 6–7 leaves, the subsequent ones are located after 1–2 leaves or directly behind each other. Upstart, F1 City dweller, F1 Paradise begin to bear fruit 95–105 days after germination. These varieties are distinguished by their friendly fruit bearing and can be grown both in a greenhouse and in open ground. Following them, the medium-sized (determinant) F1 Arbat, F1 Rover, F1 Shustrik and F1 Kulinar begin to bear fruit. In these tomatoes, the formation of inflorescences begins above the 7th–9th leaf. Large-fruited, weighing up to 200 g, hybrids F1 Big Brother, F1 Bolshevik, F1 Piglet and the variety Pink Cheeks also begin to ripen 5–10 days later than the short ones. These are salad varieties with tasty and fleshy pulp. Their fruits have a valuable economic feature - they do not crack on the plant or during storage. Advantages of the variety Pink Cheeks - a unique combination of early ripening, large-fruited, excellent taste of soft pink fruits.

The nuances of growing in open ground and greenhouses

When growing Family outdoors, pay special attention to the formation and staking of the bush. Pegs and ropes must be disinfected, since there may also be pathogens on the surface.

Although the variety is determinate, do not forget to pinch the tops. This will help the bushes get more sunlight, which means more delicious tomatoes.

If tomatoes are growing in a greenhouse, ventilate it daily by opening the windows and doors. The building has a special microclimate and high humidity. The optimal temperature should be no more than 18 degrees, otherwise the risk of contracting diseases increases. It is advisable that the greenhouse be located away from underground groundwater.

How to grow tomatoes

To get a good harvest, gardeners recommend planting tomatoes in seedlings. Although this takes more time and effort, it will be easier for the plant to take root in the garden plot. Especially when it comes to regions with unpredictable climatic conditions.

Seed preparation

You can purchase Family Tomato seeds at any gardening store or order by mail. On the bags, the manufacturer indicates recommendations for planting and growing.

First, inspect the seeds for defects. If individual specimens are of unusual color or shape, do not plant them. Be sure to disinfect the rest of the material.

They do this in several ways:

  • lay it out in the sun for 5-7 days, for example, on a balcony or on a bench near the house;
  • soak for 24 hours in a solution of potassium permanganate, for convenience, first placing the seeds in a fabric bag;
  • Soak overnight in aloe juice.

Disinfection will destroy dangerous microbes on the surface of the seeds, which will subsequently ensure rapid germination and a good harvest. Afterwards it is necessary to germinate the seed material. Take a damp cotton pad, place the seeds in it and put the disc in a plastic bag or plate. In this form, the seeds are stored for 4-7 days. Germination helps the plant develop immunity to diseases and parasites.

Container and soil

Most gardeners use ready-made soil mixtures for seedlings. Firstly, they are pre-disinfected by the manufacturer and do not contain pathogens. Secondly, such soil is enriched with vitamins and minerals necessary for the plant. Purchasing land will not be difficult; on average, 10 liters costs about 150 rubles.

Plant seedlings in any clean and dry container - cardboard milk cartons, plastic cups, flower pots, and so on. Especially recently, peat pots or tablets have become popular. They are made from environmentally friendly materials, which means they are absolutely safe for both plants and humans. Such containers are affordable and easy to use. Plus, peat containers retain moisture well, which is important for a hybrid.

Landing

Prepare seedlings 50 days before planting in the garden. To do this, pour the soil into a container, make grooves 2 cm deep in it. The distance between the grooves should be at least 15 cm. Place the seeds in the holes and sprinkle the soil on top. Don't forget to water the seedlings with warm water. To speed up growth, stretch the film or place glass on top.

Growing and care

The optimal temperature for growing seedlings is about 22 degrees; as soon as the first shoots appear, we recommend reducing it to 18. This will speed up the formation of flower clusters.

The best place for growing is a bright window. However, make sure there are no drafts. As soon as half of the seeds germinate, remove the film.

Water the seedlings only with warm filtered water. For ease of watering, use a pipette or syringe. After 5 days, as soon as all the seeds hatch, organize feeding with calcium nitrate.

In the future, feed the tomatoes every 10 days. To do this, use an ash solution, liquid bird droppings, or superphosphate.
