Grapes “Elegant super early”, variety description and photo

The “ Elegant ultra-early ” grape is a hybrid form of ultra-early ripening, very resistant to diseases and weather fluctuations. Elegant grapes have very early ripening periods and the variety fully lives up to its name.

According to reviews from winegrowers, you should definitely have this form in your garden plot in order to enjoy very high-quality sunny berries from your own garden earlier than anyone else in the season. Features and detailed characteristics of the grape variety “ Elegant Super Early ” are presented in this article.

Botanical description

Elegant super early ” is a hybrid form that ripens in the third decade of July. The growing season of this variety is 100-110 days. In normal years with a normal beginning of spring, the achievement of consumer ripeness of these grapes occurs on July 24. By this time, the acid in the titers becomes much less, and the sugar is 15-16% brix, which is enough to consume the berry.

According to the type of flower structure, the “Elegant Super Early” grape belongs to the bisexual hybrid forms. The variety does not experience any additional pollination difficulties and no peas are observed.

From the parent variety “Vostorg”, this variety inherited the ability to accumulate high sugars, as well as the ability of the clusters to hang on the bushes for a long time. But from this parent, “ Elegant ” also inherited a rather difficult rooting ability for cuttings.

The “Elegant Super Early” form is super early, table, consistently productive, and resistant to various weather stresses. Withstands freezing temperatures of -25°C without shelter. Produces up to 10-20 kilograms of harvest from an adult bush.

Reviews of Elegant extra early grapes

Denis Gennadievich Ovcharov, 32 years old, Rostov region.

There are several bushes of Elegant super early growing in the vineyard. I treat diseases and pests comprehensively in the spring, the vines develop well. The plants are quite small, I standardize them according to the ovary, and produce medium-sized clusters. Starts to sing on August 2-3. I'm cutting it down to the market gradually. The taste with a light attractive nutmeg remains virtually unchanged for 2 weeks, then becomes sweeter. In our conditions, the vine ripens early, but requires shelter for the winter, the weather is unpredictable.

Arkady Olegovich Pimenov, 47 years old, Moscow region.

I received cuttings of the ultra-early Elegant from relatives and rooted them myself. Out of 10, one completely took root; two survived the summer, but died. It was not possible to vaccinate. I will already propagate from my bush. The second year he gave me a small bunch and left a dozen berries to try. Ripened on August 5, the variety lives up to its name. I cover it for the winter and always plant the vine in a fan with an angle. I heard that it is better not to lead vertically, otherwise the shoulder may crack when taking cover.

Characteristics of bushes:

The grapes " Elegant super early " grow moderately, giving an annual growth of up to 3-4 meters. The shoots of this grape variety ripen well. “ Elegant super early ” gives the best results in terms of yield on the rootstock of a vigorous vine. Examples of rootstocks can be bushes of the varieties “Moldova”, “101-14”, and other vigorous, resistant varieties. Fertility coefficient 1.6-2.

The leaves are dark emerald green, large, three-pointed with shallow teeth along the edges. On the front surface the leaves are slightly folded and shiny. The back surface is smooth without edges. The leaves are suitable for harvesting for the winter and making cabbage rolls.

It is best to form bushes of this grape with an oblique cordon. With this method of cultivation, the yield of bushes increases by 20-30%. Pruning of bushes is preferably medium for 6-8 eyes or short for 2-4 buds. It responds well to a high level of agricultural technology: foliar and root feeding, watering, fertilizers.

Features of planting grapes

To get a good harvest, which can be enjoyed by the “Elegant” super early and “Elegant” varieties, you need to choose the right place for planting and prepare it.

Selecting a location

Grapes are a sun-loving plant crop, so for planting you should choose a place well lit by sunlight. A large vineyard should be located in a direction from north to south. In this case, the illumination will be maximum. The plot for the vineyard must have a slope of at least 10°.

You should not choose areas where groundwater comes close (closer than 1.5 m) to ground level. There is also no need to plant grape bushes near trees or bushes - they will interfere with each other’s development. The distance from fruit trees is about 3 m, from other bushes - 1.5–2 m. For medium-sized grapes, 2–3 m² per bush and a low garter (1.5–2 m of support) are enough, which is very economical with limited areas of the site. The Elegant variety (FV-2-6) should be planted next to a pollinator.

This plant culture grows well on light sandy, sandy loam, clay or loamy soils. But heavy, silty soil is not suitable for planting a vineyard, since it does not allow air and moisture to pass through well. Soil that contains a lot of humus and, accordingly, is rich in nitrogen is also not entirely suitable. Grapes on such soil will grow vigorously, but the vine will not ripen well.

Work order

Bushes of the "Elegant" variety are best planted in spring. The pit is prepared in advance - at least a few weeks before planting, and it is best to prepare it in the fall.

Important! Before planting, the seedling is carefully inspected, soaked in water for a day, the roots are slightly trimmed and soaked in a clay mash. This significantly increases its viability and is relevant if the bush has undergone long-term transportation.

When planting seedlings in open ground, the following sequence should be followed:

  1. Dig a hole about 0.8–1 m wide and deep.
  2. Then they are covered with earth with rotted manure or humus, and wood ash, potash and phosphorus fertilizers are also added.
  3. The soil is filled, and the seedling is placed at a depth of 0.4–0.5 m from the ground level, carefully placing the roots.
  4. Cover with soil from the very top, lightly compacting.
  5. Afterwards, water generously - up to 2 buckets of water per bush.

This variety has short sleeves, so the distance between seedlings is approximately 1.5–2 m.

If the soil is too dense or there is a very limited area for the seedling, it is recommended to do the following:

  1. A drainage layer of crushed stone (about 15 cm) is poured into the planting hole at the very bottom.
  2. A pipe with a diameter of 5–7 cm is placed in the hole, retreating about 10 cm from the edge. The pipe should rise 15–20 cm above ground level. Later, watering is carried out through it and fertilizing is introduced. All substances go directly to the roots of the plant.
  3. A cut plastic bottle with holes for ventilation is placed on the pipe to protect the pipe from debris and soil. When watering, remove the bottle.

Taste characteristics:

The Elegant Superearly berry pleases with its pleasant and harmonious varietal taste. They are sweet with crispy flesh. At the stage of technical ripeness, the taste is enriched with light nutmeg.

The ripe berries of Elegant Superearly have an unusual, slightly nutmeg aroma with fruity notes. The seeds (1-2) are quite large, but can be chewed without much effort. The dense, medium-thick skin covering the pulp is practically not felt in the mouth and is easily eaten. The tasting assessment of the variety by specialists is 8.3 points. Sugar accumulation is 17-19% brix, with a titratable acid content of 6-7 g/l.

Reviews from netizens

I’m not ready to say what type of flower is on my ELEGANT, but to distinguish it from other similar varieties, in my opinion, is very simple: I have not come across any grape variety with such a paranoid tendency to form peas, as well as to shed berries during ripening - you touch it a little, and the berry is already on the floor. I keep it only for the taste - a lot of sugar, crispy, unlike anything else pulp, light nutmeg. And the appearance of fully ripened (non-harvested) berries is impressive. Good luck everyone!

Commercial qualities:

The grapes “ Elegant super early ” will ripen very early. Its marketability has one flaw: the berry is green. It cannot be used to determine the ripeness of the grapes, and therefore, if a variety is brought to the market, it is offered to buyers to try. After tasting, it becomes clear that the variety is excellent and is sold well. The big advantage is that the bunches of this grape do not lose their taste and do not crumble during storage and transportation. Also, “ Elegant super early ” is one of the favorites among winegrowers for its resistance to cracking and stable yield.

A generalized description of the grape variety “Elegant Super Early” is presented in the table:

Pests and diseases

Elegant grapes are highly resistant to diseases, such as mildew, oidium and various types of rot.

This remarkable feature of the variety makes it possible to abandon a set of preventive measures.

However, if the summer turns out to be cool and rainy, it is better to play it safe and treat the plants with Bordeaux mixture or contact-type preparations - Ridomir Gold M Ts, 68, Quadris 250, Acrobat.

Protecting your vineyard from pests is one of those things that should never be neglected.

You need to start it already when landing. The soil should be mulched. Moisture is retained and the germination of weeds is hampered.

The fact is that weeds provide shelter for grape leafhoppers, wireworms, cutworms, ticks, and bedbugs.

If, when examining grape bushes, you find biennial leafroller or grape moth caterpillars in quantities dangerous to the plant, treat the bushes with one of the preparations developed specifically for this purpose.

You will need to carefully read the drug instructions before you make a choice.

Each product has its own waiting period, the time from application to complete destruction, so you should focus on the time remaining until the crop ripens.

The attitude towards chemical protective equipment is unfairly biased, and we ourselves are to blame for this. We do not read the instructions for use carefully, violate the dosage, and ignore personal protective equipment. Strict adherence to the instructions guarantees complete safety for humans.

Being easy to care for, resistant to fungus and frost, not too tall, and at the same time very tasty and producing abundant fruit, Elegant can become the very first variety with which a novice gardener will begin to get acquainted with grapes. It will not present unpleasant surprises and will not disappoint the one who decided to plant it on his land.

Among the unpretentious varieties, it is also worth paying attention to Aleshenkin Dar, Delight Ideal and Giovanni.

Disease incidence and resistance of the vine

The hybrid form of the Elegant Ultra Early exhibits resistance to fungal diseases such as mildew and gray rot. To a greater extent, you should be wary of berries being damaged by oidium. But with proper prevention, this disease is also not scary for Elegant Super Early .

DiseasesSustainability
Downy mildew (mildew)Above average
OidiumAverage
Gray rotDoesn't get sick

Also, during the period of intense growing season, attacks by spider mites and other insects that attack grape leaves are frequent, so timely spraying with special chemicals before and after flowering of grapes will protect the leaf apparatus and save the bushes.

Variety care

Elegant grapes produce a bountiful harvest with regular care. The plants are watered, fed with fertilizers, and the vines are pruned in the fall. To protect plantings from diseases and pests, preventive spraying of plantings is carried out.

Watering

Grapes under 3 years old need intensive watering. It is watered several times a season: after cleaning the shelter in the spring, during flowering and ripening of berries. Mature bushes are able to independently obtain water.

Advice! 4-6 liters of warm water are poured under each Elegant bush.

Bushes of any age need winter watering. Moisture is added in late autumn to protect the plantings from freezing.

Feeding

The supply of nutrients ensures the development of bushes and the formation of crops. Both organic matter and minerals are used for feeding.

Feeding scheme for Elegant grapes:

  • in spring when buds open;
  • 12 days after the appearance of the first inflorescences;
  • when berries ripen;
  • after harvesting the bunches.

For the first feeding, prepare slurry or 30 g of ammonium nitrate. Liquid fertilizer is watered at the roots of the bushes, and minerals are incorporated into the soil. In the future, it is better to refuse to use such fertilizers. Due to the high nitrogen content, fertilizing stimulates the formation of shoots and leaves to the detriment of yield.

During flowering and fruiting of Elegant grapes, 140 g of superphosphate and 70 g of potassium sulfate are embedded in the soil. Root feeding can be replaced by spraying. The substances are dissolved in water, after which the plants are treated leaf by leaf. For spraying, choose a dry, cloudy day or evening.

After harvesting, the soil in the vineyard is dug up and fertilized with humus. Fertilizing is necessary for plants to replenish the supply of nutrients after fruiting.

Trimming

Elegant grapes are pruned annually in October. 5 shoots are left per bush, weak branches are cut out. For the variety, long pruning is used, when 6-8 eyes are left on the shoot.

When flowering, remove excess ovaries. Just 1-2 bunches per shoot is enough. The highest quality harvest is obtained on branches with a large supply of wood.

In summer, some of the leaves are removed so that the berries are better illuminated by the sun. This way the grapes will gain sugar faster and the taste of the berries will improve. In the summer, it is necessary to remove the stepsons.

Diseases and pests

The Elegant variety is not susceptible to mildew and gray rot. If you follow the growing rules, the likelihood of developing diseases is significantly reduced.

To protect against diseases, preventive spraying of grapes with Ridomil, Topaz, Oksikhom or Horus is carried out. For treatment, prepare a solution that is sprayed onto the plants leaf by leaf. The procedure is carried out in the spring before flowering and in the fall after harvesting.

The vineyard is attacked by spider and leaf mites, aphids, leaf rollers, and beetles. To protect against pests, the vine is sprayed with a solution of Actellik or Karbofos. If sweet berries attract a swarm of wasps and birds, then the bunches should be covered with fabric bags.

Preparing for winter

Elegant grapes can withstand frosts down to -25 °C. For the winter, it is recommended to cover the vine to protect it from freezing. In autumn, the shoots are removed from the trellis and placed on the ground.

Plants are hilled and mulched with dry leaves. A wooden box or metal arches are placed on top, then agrofibre is stretched. In spring, the cover is removed to prevent the grapes from dampening off.

Features of agricultural technology of the variety

Elegant grapes are unpretentious, but responsive to good care. The plant easily adapts to any growing conditions. It is not necessary to form a bush; it is enough to carry out sanitary pruning in the fall. But if the cutting is grafted onto a vigorous rootstock, it is necessary to cut off the shoots into 6-8 buds. The Elegant variety is also supported by its compatibility with most rootstocks.

Due to the average growth of the bush, the grapes will not need to install monumental supports. There is also no need to quickly harvest the crop after ripening. The berries can hang in clusters for a long time without losing their taste, only the nutmeg notes will gradually become more intense. In regions with mild winters, grapes do not need shelter.

When growing a variety, it is important to pay attention to several features of the grapes:

  • When planting, you should take into account that Elegant cuttings do not take root well, so you should prefer propagation by seedlings.
  • After pruning in the spring, you should not tie the shoots vertically upward, otherwise in the fall the vines may crack when laid on the ground for shelter.
  • It is recommended to thin out the bunches so as not to overload the bush, otherwise the shoots may become thinner. But even in case of overload, the vines ripen well.
  • At the final stage of berry ripening, it is advisable to remove the leaves that shade the bunches, otherwise the berries will have a pale tint. Only in direct sunlight do the fruits acquire an amber-yellow color.
  • Often, in insufficiently sunny summers, the berries do not sit tightly in the clusters, but if you give the grapes scheduled fertilizing after flowering, this problem, as a rule, does not arise. Sometimes the bunches are even too dense.
  • Of the pests, phylloxera is the most dangerous for Elegant.

Ripening berries

They are quite large, each individually weighing up to 7 g. Light green, after full ripening they become almost transparent and golden. It is at this time that the nutmeg taste is most strongly felt. The shape of the berry is slightly elongated, with a sharp tip. The berries are formed white, almost milky in color.

But as it ripens, the shade changes to almost yellow. For this, it is very important that sunlight falls on them. Therefore, when the bunches become full, the leaves around them need to be cut off. This ensures the optimal appearance of the berries. Without sunlight, they will remain pale and, although edible, will not survive competition in the market.

Advantages and disadvantages

The “elegant” grape variety has many advantages over other varieties, namely:

  • Early maturation.
  • Stable rich harvest.
  • Durability during transportation.
  • High consumer parameters.
  • Low maintenance requirements.
  • Frost and drought resistance.
  • Resistance to common diseases and pests of grapes.

The disadvantages of this type include:

  • Short storage period for bunches.
  • Loose brushes.
  • Low rooting of cuttings.

Important! When watering the “elegant”, care must be taken - droplets of water falling on the leaves lead to their damage and drying out.

Wintering

This is another point for which it is worth paying attention to the Elegant grape variety. The parent varieties imparted the best properties to the variety, resulting in a plant with large berries that can remain on the bush for a long time, and high fruitfulness. In winter, the shoots are stable and viable, and the fruit buds can withstand frosts down to -25 degrees.

But it doesn’t hurt to roll it up well in the fall, lay it down and cover the vine with spruce branches. There are other special methods that will help protect the plant from temperature changes, wind and precipitation. This is the installation of a wooden box into which the plant is rolled up, and then the entire space is filled with sawdust or leaves.

When to collect and how to store

The Elegant Ultra Early variety has a very early ripening period; the grape harvest begins in early or mid-July. Since the skin of the berries is dense, after picking fresh, Elegant Ultra Early is stored for a long time, from 2 to 6 months.

Long-term storage of this variety also depends on compliance with the temperature regime and a certain humidity in refrigerated special rooms or refrigerators. The room allocated for storage is first cleaned, whitened and ventilated, and only then the grapes are stored.

Growing

The Elegant extra-early grape is a heat-loving crop; the choice of location is taken with special care.

  1. Choose sunny areas where there are no plants or buildings that would shade this crop. It is better to grow from the southern part of the garden, because this place receives the most abundant sunlight, which will speed up the process of fruit ripening.
  2. Give preference to elevated areas that will not allow groundwater to disrupt the development of the root system and the entire plant as a whole. The minimum depth of groundwater should be 2 m.

Landing Features

The young plant needs to be tied up

It is better to start planting in October or April. At this time the frosts are not so severe. For planting, young seedlings that were grown in containers are used. Planting is done in these containers so as not to deform the roots. The seedling must be 1-2 years old. It should show the place where the vaccination was done. The planting material should not show signs of disease or damaged areas.

Prepare a hole for planting. Depth 40x50 cm. Humus and peat (1:1) are poured onto the bottom. For maximum protection against root rot, install a drainage system consisting of crushed stone.

A seedling is placed inside the planting hole and the roots are leveled over the entire area. The root collar should be located above the ground surface. The roots are carefully sprinkled with the top layer of soil. A support is installed nearby that will protect the weak vine from windy weather and deformation.

The distance between bushes should be 2 m, and between rows 3 m.

Landing

The Elegant variety loves warmth, so the plant is planted where there is a lot of sun, i.e. on the south or southwest side. You can’t plant it where groundwater is close; it should be at least 1.5 m away from it. The grapes will grow on light soils, but unsuitable soils can also be improved. To do this, fertilizers are applied and excess water is drained.

Young grapes require special attention

You will receive the first fruits from a young plant 2 or 3 years after planting, but the signal bunch appears a year after spring planting.

This very early variety is resistant to gray rot and mildew, and therefore tolerates skipping preventive fungicide treatment. But it’s still better not to give it up in order to guarantee a high yield.

Reading the description of the variety, you can understand that caring for grapes is extremely simple. A novice gardener can also reap a high harvest. The grapes don’t need to be fertilized; they will easily tolerate it. But if you want to get more berries, feed it with potassium salt in the fall, and ammonium nitrate in the spring. During the growing season it is fed with fertilizer made from bird droppings. Once a year, add ash to the soil, but you can’t get carried away, because... if you overdo it, the plant will burn.

Elegant color. The largest clusters should be left for fruiting

Sometimes the consequence of improper watering is mold on the trunk, which will destroy the plant. Therefore, water it so as not to touch its green part. After watering, loosen the soil.

Trimming

Elegant does not require pruning before wintering, because it tolerates frost well. But formative pruning is still required to thin out these bushes. Trim the shoots, leaving 5 - 6 buds from the ground. One bush should not have more than 20 eyes.

Short pruning of grapes - Elegant bush in spring

If the bushes become overloaded, the vine itself will become fragile and thin, and it will not be able to recover immediately. After pruning, there is no need to tie up the vine, because the stepchildren themselves will be distributed as needed.

Basic rules for planting and further care

In order for the grapes to take root and develop well, it is necessary to choose the right planting site. The plant must be planted in a place with low water levels, the permissible norm is 1.5 m, otherwise the rhizome will rot and interfere with the development of the crop.

Planting is done on crushed stone or rocky soils. The soil should be slightly acidic. Seedlings are planted only in heated soil, when the air temperature is consistently high - +20°C. Planting is usually carried out at the end of May.

Important! When purchasing a seedling, you must carefully inspect the plant for diaper rash, rotting and damage to the root system. To be sure of the authenticity of the planted variety, it is better to purchase a seedling in a specialized store

Preparing the planting hole and soil:

  1. Dig a hole measuring 70x70 wide and 80 cm deep.
  2. Pour crushed stone into a 10 cm layer at the bottom of the hole for drainage.
  3. Prepare a substrate from the top fertile layer of soil mixed with 20 kg of humus and 10 kg of sand.

Immediately before planting, the seedling is placed in a solution for rapid growth of the rhizome. You can use the drug “Kornevin” at the rate of 30 g per 1 liter of water. The residence time of the seedling in the solution should be at least 3 hours.

Planting a seedling:

  1. Fill the prepared hole with soil up to the middle, forming a small hill.
  2. Carefully place the seedling in the hole and level the root system along the embankment.
  3. Fill the top of the hole with substrate so that the seedling looks 3-4 cm above the ground.
  4. Compact the soil with light pats.
  5. Water the seedling with 5 liters of warm water at a temperature of +20°C.
  6. After this, cover the soil with a 10 cm layer of sand.

Caring for grapes begins in March, when it is necessary to carry out the pruning procedure. This must be done before the buds begin to swell, otherwise juice will leak from the cuts and there will be a risk of fungal infection. In the spring, the first preventive irrigation is carried out against infections and pests. The procedure is carried out at a temperature from +4°C to +6°C; a 3% solution of copper sulfate is prepared for it - 300 g per 10 liters of water.

Did you know? To make 1 bottle of wine, 6 kg of grapes are required.

The second preventive procedure is carried out in mid-summer, the plant is treated with the drug “Quadris” (60 ml per 10 l of water), and fertilizing is also applied in the form of the drug “Aquarin” (25 g per 10 l of water). At the end of August, phosphorus-potassium fertilizer is applied at the rate of 15 g per 10 liters of water. Starting in April, it is necessary to tie up the regrown vines. At the same time, stepchildren and weakened shoots should be removed. Watering is carried out 2 times a month as needed. It is necessary to add up to 20 liters of water to each bush.

How to plant correctly

The shoots of the Elegant grapes ripen well, so they can be successfully used for further propagation. The disadvantage of this variety is that the degree of rooting of cuttings is not high enough, therefore, with this method of planting a hybrid, you will have to try to create the most favorable conditions. In order for the culture to take root, the following manipulations must be performed:

  • cut cuttings with the same number of eyes, but no more than four;
  • there should be a tendril and a bud at the bottom, and it is also important to make an even cut;
  • pour a little purified water into the bottom of the jar and place the cuttings in it, and cover it with a plastic bag;
  • remove the jar from direct sunlight and store for 3-4 weeks, but do not forget to change the water;
  • when roots about 3 cm long appear on the cuttings, they must be planted in a pot with nutritious light soil;
  • In this form, the seedlings must be stored until planting, not forgetting to water them so that the soil does not dry out.

To graft another grape variety onto Elngant, it also needs to be properly prepared:

  • cut the cuttings into 3-4 eyes;
  • make a sharp wedge on both sides about 2 cm under the lower kidney;
  • when preparing the rootstock, cut off the cutting above the upper eye;
  • make a wedge so that it is tightly inserted into the scion stalk, and then tape them tightly to each other;
  • store the prepared material in a cool, dark, damp place, for example, in a refrigerator or cellar.

To achieve success in growing a crop, first of all, it is necessary to carry out planting work correctly.

This plant can be planted in autumn or spring. In the second case, it is recommended to wait until the snow melts and the soil warms up.

Selecting a location

When choosing a site for a plant, it is worth considering that grapes are a heat-loving crop. It should be planted in a sunny place on the south or southwest side. The site must be protected from draft and wind.

It is important to pay attention to the depth of groundwater. They should be no higher than 1.5 meters.

Soil requirements

It is recommended to plant the plant in chernozem soil with neutral acidity levels. Light loams or sandy loams are also perfect for this.

Site preparation

When planting a plant in the spring, the hole should be prepared in the fall. If you plan to plant the crop in October, the hole can be made in July or August.

It is recommended to mix the soil with compost or humus. Heavy soil should be diluted with sand or crushed brick.

Before planting grapes in the soil, it is recommended to add organic fertilizers. You can also use mineral preparations. However, it is recommended to dissolve them in water.

It is advisable to buy seedlings from reliable suppliers. It is also quite possible to contact a nursery.

Healthy plants should not have damaged areas, growths on the root system or dark spots on the vine.

It is best to purchase a seedling that is 1 year old. Its height should be 40 centimeters, and the diameter of the shoots should be 5 millimeters. They should have 3-4 buds.

Planting scheme

After selecting and preparing a landing site, you should perform the following steps:

  • maintain a distance between bushes of 3-3.5 meters, between rows - 2 meters;
  • deepen the hole to 90-100 centimeters, make it 60-70 centimeters in diameter;
  • fill the hole with fertile substrate - its layer should be at least 40 centimeters;
  • install a support on the edge of the pit;
  • place a seedling in the central part, sprinkle with soil and leave a few centimeters to create a depression;
  • compact the soil and pour 15-20 liters of water under the bush.

Rules for planting the variety "Elegant"

Let's take a closer look at the criteria that you should pay attention to when planting grapes.

Selection of seedlings

The key to growing a strong, well-fruiting shrub is the right choice of seedling. First of all, it is worth remembering that you should buy seedlings from trusted sellers or special nurseries.

What you should pay attention to when purchasing:

  • The color of the roots is important: they should be light. Also, when cut, the roots should be cream-colored.
  • Do not buy seedlings in the autumn, with leaves. Through the foliage, the seedling loses a lot of moisture and may die.
  • It is best to purchase seedlings in March or April.

Grapes are planted both in spring and autumn.

When planting in spring, special attention should be paid to frequent watering. It is preferable to plant as early as possible, for example, in March or even in February (in the absence of frosts)

The main rule when planting in the fall is not to plant in frozen ground. In this case, the roots will not have sufficient contact with the soil and will not receive the necessary moisture and nutrients.

Planting scheme

The next important step after determining the planting location and timing will be the choice of planting pattern, that is, the distance between the bushes. The pattern depends on the type of trellis and the selected variety.

When choosing a single-plane trellis, bushes of the Elegant variety are planted at a distance of approximately 3.5 m from each other. The distance between the rows should be no less than the height of the trellis plane, usually about 2 m.

If you decide to install two-plane trellises, the distance between the bushes can be reduced to 2 m, and it is more advisable to increase the distance between the rows to 2.5–3 m.

To plant, you need to dig a hole about 1 m deep, lay a layer of crushed stone on the bottom, then about 40 cm of earth. Next, place the seedling in the hole, which should be covered alternately with compost and soil. Compact the top layer well and fill it with two buckets of water.

Watering

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDniJdWG6vk

Cool weather allows you to do without additional watering. The roots of the vine allow it to collect moisture over a long distance. If the summer turns out to be dry and hot, then the grapes need to be supplied with a new portion of precious moisture every day. But it needs to be done correctly. This variety really doesn’t like water getting on its leaves.

Mold on the trunk is another consequence of improper watering. It can destroy the vine. Therefore, water it so as not to touch the green part, and then be sure to loosen the soil.

Origin

The Elegant grape was developed by crossing Frumoase Albe and Delight. Gardeners liked the result so much that it quickly made it into the top ten varieties. The hybrid took all the best from both ancestors. Delight gave resistance to diseases and the ability to accumulate sugar, and Frumoase Alba - a unique nutmeg. The light-colored table variety comes in very handy in the garden plots of our compatriots. Recommended for cultivation in the south of the country, but is successfully cultivated almost throughout the entire territory.

Advantages

The most important advantage of Elegant is its extremely early ripening. It is not necessary to harvest the crop immediately after ripening; it is acceptable for the clusters to hang on the vines for some time. This quality will be especially useful for summer residents who do not have the opportunity to come to their country house often enough. A ripe harvest can remain on the bushes for up to 30 days.

The vines ripen fully even if the plant is overloaded. Even beginners who are just learning the basics of viticulture can grow Elegant.
