Description of the Sweet Bunch tomato, reviews and yield of the variety

Variety variety

In this series, under the general name, fruits with a different color are grown - chocolate, golden. But these varieties are not reflected in official registers. According to the main characteristics, they are identical to the red original, but there are some differences.

Varieties of “Sweet Bunch” tomatoes

ChocolateGolden
Despite its indeterminate nature, the bush stops its growth on its own at a height of 1.7 m

Externally, the fruits resemble dark cherries with a chocolate tint. When cut, the flesh is dark red in color and stands out for its juiciness.

Tomatoes have 4-5 seed chambers

The sweetness is more pronounced than that of the main variety and leaves behind a long, pleasant aftertaste.

Bush growth stops at a height of 150 cm

The foliage is not as strong as the original, but the branching is increased

The shape of the fruits is more like a yellow pear. The pulp has the same shade

There is an increased content of sugars, which provides a pleasant sweetness to the fruits

The “Sweet Bunch” varieties are just as productive, hold their shape well and are versatile in consumer terms.

"Sweet bunch of gold"

This variety is also not in the variety register.
The offer has been put on the market. When describing the variety, the manufacturer recommends it for growing indoors. Although the plant and the indeterminate plant are not taller than 150 cm. The foliage of the vegetative form is weak, but the branching is quite strong and the plant requires constant and regular cutting off of the stepsons until they become 3-4 cm larger.

Fetus

Tomatoes are produced in huge clusters, 30-40 pieces each. The tomatoes are not large, on average 25-30 g. The shape of the tomato is pear-shaped, similar to light bulbs. The color is yellow, hence the name of the variety - “Sweet bunch of gold” tomato.

The taste is good. Tomatoes have a high sugar content, and this is felt in the taste and aftertaste.

The tomato has a salad purpose and is also suitable for canning. The taste of “golden” tomatoes will add piquancy and sweetness to any dish, and their beautiful shape and color will be a pleasant bonus.

Having suffered a heat stroke, tomatoes do not lose their shape and, once on the dinner table, they can easily be an independent dish as a snack.

Having reached biological ripeness, all tomatoes have an even shape, color and weight, which makes them very desirable.

Disease resistance

Describing the characteristics and advantages of tomatoes, the author of the variety indicates its resistance to unfavorable conditions. However, the variety is intended for cultivation indoors, and it is not entirely clear what stable factors we are talking about.

Experienced vegetable growers, regardless of descriptions and other people’s opinions, constantly carry out preventive measures, since varieties with absolute resistance have not yet been bred.

Productivity

Those who have already grown this variety, sharing their impressions, say that the variety gives a very good harvest. It is possible to remove a great many small “light bulbs” from one bush. To meet the needs of one family, it is enough to plant only 1-2 bushes.

Pros and cons of the variety

The variety attracts gardeners not only with its beautiful fruits.

Among the main advantages are the following:

  • early ripening of tomatoes;
  • long fruiting;
  • good taste;
  • high marketability;
  • versatility of use, tomatoes tolerate heat treatment well.

Even with the most careful selection, it is not possible to obtain a 100% ideal variety. Therefore, “Sweet Bunch” also has disadvantages:

  • continuity of growth, requiring frequent pinching;
  • the need for a powerful trellis and regular tying;
  • poor immunity to cold and drafts;
  • instability to late blight.

But if you constantly pay attention to the culture and create suitable growing conditions, these disadvantages can be considered relative.

Productivity

Despite the fact that “Sweet Bunch” tomatoes are early ripening, they are designed for cultivation in open ground only in the southern regions of the country. In other regions, it is possible to obtain harvests exclusively under greenhouse conditions, where they carefully monitor the maintenance of optimal conditions.

“Sweet bunch” is not characterized by high yield. An average of 3 kg of fruit is collected from one bush. A characteristic feature of the variety is long fruiting, lasting from late July to early September.

In open ground, the variety is grown only in the southern regions in areas well protected from the wind. In the middle zone, “Sweet Bunch” is cultivated under film covers and in stationary greenhouses. If you have a pot with a diameter of more than 50 cm, the tomato can be grown on a loggia or glazed balcony.

Features of cultivation and care

The variety was bred for cultivation in cultivated structures. The requirements for agricultural technology in this case are identical to those applied to the crop as a whole. The need for pinching and gartering on the trellis has already been mentioned above. It is worth dwelling on the following points:

  • during picking, seedlings must be fed with mineral fertilizers;
  • subsequently, organic matter, iodine, and yeast are used as the main nutrition;
  • watering is carried out only with warm water;
  • after loosening the soil, mulching is desirable;
  • it is necessary to monitor the cleanliness of the beds, removing weeds in a timely manner;
  • It is recommended to form the bush into 2 trunks;
  • drafts are completely eliminated in the greenhouse.

To protect the variety from late blight, special efforts are made to preventive measures. In addition to the annual disinfection of buildings and soil, it is recommended to periodically spray the plants with fungicides (Hom, Quadris, etc.), copper oxychloride, and Bordeaux mixture. Biological products have proven themselves well - “Baikal”, “Fitosporin”, “Guapsin” and others.

Landing

Planting of treated seeds for seedlings begins in March. Treatment should include etching in a 1% potassium permanganate solution, and then soaking in a growth stimulant solution. The duration of the procedures is 30-40 minutes each, and after that the seeds are rinsed.

The soil should consist of soil from the garden, humus and peat with the addition of sand. It is checked for acidity (if the value is above pH 6.5, dolomite flour or crushed chalk is added), and then disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate or by freezing at sub-zero temperatures.

Although peat is a necessary part of the substrate, you cannot purchase so-called peat soil with too high a concentration.

The soil is laid out in boxes, grooves are made in them and seeds are sown. Moistened crops are covered with film and moved to a warm room. When the sprouts appear, make the room cooler, and provide the seedlings with lighting for at least 12-13 hours.

When the second true leaf appears on each seedling, they are picked. They are planted in individual containers, preferably made of peat.

Feed the seedlings up to two times before transferring them to the ground, using complex fertilizer in liquid form. You can replant when the bushes are 50-60 days old.

For 1 sq.m. place 3 plants. The soil is first dug up, fertilized, and disinfected.

Reviews, who planted

Natalya, Moscow region:

“I’ve been growing Sweet Life tomatoes for three years now, and I still can’t get enough of them. The bushes are a sight to behold. The long clusters are brightly dotted with neat small fruits, so the plant looks very decorative. My husband even set up a small bench for me in the greenhouse next to the tomato tree - I sit and admire it from time to time. I liked the taste of the tomatoes, especially my grandchildren. I also want to bribe some golden and chocolate-looking seeds.”

Tatyana, Novosibirsk:

“I finally found a variety that completely satisfied me - these are “Sweet Bunch” tomatoes. In our climate, vegetables can only be grown in greenhouses, and this variety is ideally adapted to such conditions. Moreover, it is early, and we already eat our own tomatoes at the beginning of summer.

It’s a pity, of course, that the tasty fruits are small, but there are a lot of them in the bunches, and we have enough for our daily table. And how beautiful they look in canned form - one to one in a jar, and all intact, without cracking.”

Ignat, Crimea:

“I grow many tall varieties in open beds. But I didn’t practice this with the “Sweet Bunch” - I plant it in a greenhouse. Here I have created more suitable conditions for the formation of bushes - the plant is developing rapidly, so I have to constantly tie it up.

He did not limit the growth - he sent the upper branches along horizontal poles located under the ceiling. So the grapes hang directly above your head. True, I had to pay more attention to fertilizing, but it was worth it - I got an excellent juicy, sweet (with a slight sourness) harvest.

Tomato Sweet bunch

The Sweet Bunch tomato is a relatively young variety; the registration number was received in 2009. Their originator is Moscow Agro. Its specialists have created a variety that can be grown both in open and protected ground. It is interesting to note that the Chocolate Bunch tomato is also on sale, but it is not included in the state register of breeding achievements of Russia.

Tomato variety Sweet bunch: characteristics and description

Refers to indeterminate tomatoes (unlimited growth). With good care, bushes can grow up to 2.5 meters or more, depending on conditions and climate. It is best to plant it in greenhouses, where the plants are formed, leaving 1 or 2 stems. This variety is well suited for cultivation in the northern regions of Russia, as it is early ripening - an average of 103-108 days pass from germination to fruit ripening.

Important! It is necessary to plant seedlings in open ground when the threat of frost has passed in the area, otherwise young plants risk dying even with a slight frost of −1-2 degrees. Tomato Sweet bunch. Tomato Sweet bunch

The fruits of this variety are small. Their weight averages from 20 to 30 grams. The tomatoes are round and dense, bright red. Many small fruits are formed on the cluster. At the same time, their maturation occurs gradually. Experts do not recommend selective harvesting; it is better to wait until the entire cluster is ripe and remove it completely.

The fruits have a good taste, but, despite their name, are not sweet.

Tomato care Sweet bunch

Most often, tomatoes are grown through seedlings, however, early-ripening varieties, which include the Sweet Bunch, can be sown directly into the beds, but only in warm regions. After planting seedlings in a permanent place, the plants need care and watering. It is better to water them infrequently - once a week in hot weather and once every two weeks if it rains. In the greenhouse, the bushes are watered once a week. Tomatoes do not like water and high humidity; in such conditions they do not form fruits and get sick. It is good if the air humidity is no higher than 47%.

Sowing tomato seeds

Important! The soil for tomatoes needs to be prepared in the fall. It is imperative to lim the soil, since it is lime that saturates the soil with calcium and magnesium. In addition, compost or good humus and bone meal are added to future beds

And we should not forget about crop rotation - you cannot plant tomatoes where they or other nightshades grew last year

Sugar bunch tomatoes (as this variety is often called popularly) need a garter, like all indeterminate varieties. It is best to use twine, which is sold in specialty stores; bamboo sticks also work well.

Stepchildren need to be constantly removed, since the plants form a maximum of two stems. Extra branches will take a lot of nutrition, taking it away from the fruit.

During the season, tomatoes should be fed at least three times. These can be either mineral fertilizers (urea, azofoska, saltpeter, special complex fertilizers) or organic (infusion of mullein or chicken droppings, herbal infusion). For better fruit formation, plants can be sprayed with the preparations “Bud”, “Sudarushka”, “Energen”.

Pros and cons of the Sweet Bunch variety

The Sweet Bunch series of tomatoes have few obvious advantages. These include early ripeness and the fact that the fruits perform well during heat treatment during canning (the tomatoes remain intact and do not burst).

Unfortunately, this variety has more disadvantages than advantages:

  • A small amount of harvest (up to 3.5 kilograms from 1 bush). Planting rate: per 1 square meter - 3 plants. Thus, the yield from 1 square meter is on average 10 kilograms.
  • Violent growth of stepchildren that need to be systematically removed.
  • Susceptible to late blight.
  • The fruits are unsweetened, their skin is dense.

The Sweet Bunch tomato is susceptible to late blight.

But, despite all its disadvantages, the Sweet Bunch series of tomatoes has found a place in greenhouses. It is valued by summer residents for its early ripeness and, to some extent, for its decorativeness.
