Description of Tiger variety tomatoes, general characteristics and cultivation

Features of cultivation and care

Like planting material of traditional varieties, seeds of ampelous tomatoes are treated for an hour in a weak solution of potassium permanganate before planting.

Planting is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. A layer of drainage material is placed at the bottom of the pot: coconut substrate, expanded clay;
  2. Fill the container with a substrate of peat, rotted manure and turf soil calcined at 60 degrees, mixed in a 1:1:1 ratio. Before laying, purchased soil is fertilized based on the calculation of 1 tbsp. l. ash, 1 tsp. superphosphate and 1 tsp. potassium sulfate in a bucket of earth;
  3. Seeds washed in clean water are sown to a depth of 2 cm in large seedling containers or separate pots.

The peculiarity of this variety is that some gardeners practice vertical planting of ampels, planting plants in pots with a hole in the bottom. Bushes planted in this way practically do not suffer from fungal diseases, and the branches densely strewn with small fruits become the highlight of any interior.

Tiger ampelous tomato in the garden

Important! You need to plant a hanging tomato in a pot with a volume of at least 5 liters. In a smaller container, the bush will be frail and low-yielding. Despite the fact that the variety is not characterized by high yield, miniature bushes require care no less than ordinary ones.

Despite the fact that the variety is not characterized by high productivity, miniature bushes need care no less than ordinary ones.

Growing hanging tomatoes will be successful if you provide them with the right conditions:

  • Temperature. For normal growth and active flowering, the room temperature during the day should be between +20-+26C, at night – +16-+18. If the room is much cooler, the bushes will stop developing;
  • Lighting. When planting early, when there is not enough sunlight yet, the seedlings are illuminated in the early and evening hours. So that young tomatoes grow quickly, use bicolor lamps, and for the normal development of adults - multispectrum or LED phytolamps. The advantage of the latter is that they do not heat up;
  • Watering. The Tiger ampel tomato, like other varieties of ampels in principle, is not demanding when it comes to watering. The plant calmly tolerates heat and short-term drying out of the substrate. Water the bushes with a moderate amount of water at room temperature as needed. Plants suffering from excessive humidity often suffer from fungal diseases and form watery, sour fruits. To reduce humidity, the room or greenhouse should be regularly ventilated;
  • Feeding. It is not advisable to grow tomatoes in a poor substrate, since the plants simply will not set fruit. Mineral supplements are applied once every 2 weeks. Depending on the volume of the pot and the brand chosen, the mixture consumption per bush is from 3 to 5 grams. After applying the fertilizer, the plants are watered;
  • Dive. The strengthened ampelous tomatoes are transplanted to a permanent place, buried 3 cm deeper than the previous level. As a result of such planting, plants grow a powerful root system, which transfers the maximum amount of macro- and microelements to the above-ground part;
  • Formation. The characteristics and description of the Tiger ampel tomato variety contains information that it is better to grow a bush with 1 or 2 stems. To do this, all excess shoots are pinched off as they appear. Formed plants produce greater yields than untouched ones.

Important! A large number of tomatoes at home can grow only with regular shaking of the bush during flowering. If you do not do this manipulation every day, there will be very few ovaries

Similar varieties

In terms of characteristics and descriptions, the Amur Tiger is similar to the following varieties of tomatoes:

  • Pineapple zebra;
  • Striped Amazon;
  • Dark Queen;
  • Striped chocolate;
  • Big striped boar.

Zebra pineapple is characterized by medium-late ripening and indeterminateness. The fruits are flat-rounded with weak ribbing at the stalk. The color of the peel is variegated with green or olive stripes on a bright crimson background, which is best seen in the photo. The weight of each tomato is 250-400 g, and the yield of the bush is up to 30 kg.

Striped Amazon - indeterminate tomato is distinguished by flat-round fruits of red-brown color with stripes of an olive shade. Weight is 200 g, about 3-4 kg per bush during the growing season. There is no particular predisposition to nightshade diseases.

The dark queen has a late ripening period, and the growth of the bushes does not stop during the growing season. The fruits are burgundy with green stripes, round, slightly flattened, weighing from 250 to 400 g. High yield and good taste with resistance to fungal diseases make the species quite promising.

Striped chocolate - a mid-season tomato of the indeterminate type has smooth, flattened fruits with red and green stripes, weighing 250-350 g each. Productivity reaches 8 kg per square meter. m. landing. Tomato is resistant to major fungal and viral diseases of the crop.

Large striped wild boar - indets with high yields of up to 18 kg per square meter. m. Flat-round tomatoes of dark red color with greenish stripes, weighing 250-350 g. Resistance to fungal diseases is at an average level.

Etiolation of culture

Tomatoes should be grown in prepared soil in a well-lit area. Planting seeds should be carried out according to generally accepted rules. The seeds must be kept in a manganese solution, the soil must be differentiated from sand and peat. It is recommended to heat the soil in the oven or microwave; this will help destroy fungi and larvae of harmful insects. The container with the crops is covered with a film to pre-pick the sprouts. Watering and fertilizing are carried out as needed. If 2-3 leaves appear on the shoots, they are dumped into a separate container. Before planting in a greenhouse or garden bed, the plants must be hardened off. Mid-season quality tolerates lack of moisture well. However, to obtain a rich harvest, regular watering must be carried out.

Sowing seeds, growing seedlings

To achieve high yield of the variety and rapid ripening of the crop, you need to grow the tomatoes under discussion using seedlings. It is recommended to start the process in the second half of March or early April.

Required:

  1. Prepare containers for seedlings. These can be containers or plastic boxes. Small drainage holes are created at the bottom of the dish.
  2. Prepare special fertile soil for the containers. Humus and turf soil are mixed for it. It is very important to process the mixture correctly. To do this, it is disinfected: it is heated well in the oven or spilled with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  3. Plant the seeds in furrows no more than 1.5 cm deep.
  4. Sprinkle the soil with water.
  5. Cover the prepared containers with film or a glass lid.

In order for the seeds to germinate as quickly as possible, they require constant high humidity. In this case, the air temperature should be approximately 23-25 degrees. Under such conditions, the first shoots can be seen within 6-7 days. For the first week, it is recommended to harden the plant in a cool place. This procedure allows the stems to stretch sufficiently.

For 50-60 days, the seedlings are left in a warm and well-lit place. When they are 10-12 days old, you can move each one into a separate plastic cup. Seedlings need regular sufficient watering and high-quality fertilizing. When the tomatoes are already strong, you can transplant them to a permanent place.

Fruit

They are very beautiful! In the photo I saw them completely striped, really looking like the skin of a tiger or a St. George’s ribbon. I didn’t grow any of these, but there was a pleasant play of dark red, pinkish-scarlet and purple shades.

Tomatoes are ribbed, roundish in shape. The skin is quite thin and I like it - I enjoyed cutting them into salads. And the family devoured them, too, with pleasure.

These tomatoes have a fairly high acid content, so I was happy to make vegetable kebabs from them, add them to meat, and cook tomato sauce. I made canned food. Quite!

What does "correct" mean? I'll explain now:

  1. Don’t get too carried away with breaking off the leaves: the leaves provide the fruits with everything useful and nutritious, so don’t harm your tomatoes with excessive zeal.
  2. Don't forget to ventilate the greenhouse. Even such heat-loving “Americans” do not like excessive heat - it should not be more than 32 degrees.
  3. Be careful with fresh manure - instead of a large harvest of fruits, you will get a huge harvest of leaves and shoots. But it’s good if you collect a kilogram of fruit.
  4. The best “predecessors” of the variety are legumes, cucumbers, cabbage, and carrots.
  5. Don't forget to stepchild! Otherwise, you will have a lush jungle with stunted fruits: everything will turn into greenery.
  6. Do not flood the bushes - this variety does not like excessive moisture.
  7. A little secret: when all the fruits on the first cluster are ripe, cut off all the leaves above it. Do this throughout the entire ripening period. But do not tear more than 4 leaves on one bush per week.

Tips and tricks for growing

The Amur Tiger tomato (the description of the variety and photos of it is useful for gardeners to study) can be grown independently in your own summer cottage. If this is organized in the middle zone, then it is best to plant tomatoes in a greenhouse. Today, some tricks are known that will allow you to get a decent harvest.

If tomatoes have already grown on a summer cottage, then planting them again in the same place is not prohibited. But this needs to be done only after some time. It is optimal to replant tomatoes in the same place no earlier than 2-3 years after the last harvest.

It is important to remember that you cannot use fresh manure. Such fertilizer will worsen the situation. The leaves will be especially large, and the stems will thicken. Difficulties will also arise with the fruits - their ovary and growth are slow.

It is recommended to break off the leaves of Amur Tiger tomatoes less often. Gardeners are very fond of this process and carry out the procedure to achieve maximum yield. But it should not be abused. Otherwise, you can get the opposite and unwanted effect.

If you leave more leaves, then thanks to them the fruits will receive all the necessary vitamins and minerals.

You should break off or trim only if the leaves are diseased, darkened, or of poor quality. As soon as the first brush in the lower part of the bush is filled with fully ripened tomatoes, then the leaves under them can be safely trimmed.

Later, successive leaves will be removed as the fruits ripen. But it must be taken into account that no more than 3-4 leaves are allowed to be removed per week. At the same time, be sure to trim the stepsons. If you do not do this on time, then an impressive part of the harvest will be lost.

There are a few more important tips that every gardener should learn:

  • for better fruit set of the variety under discussion, it is recommended to regularly spray the crop with a solution of boric acid (0.02%);
  • Tomatoes have thin skin, so when ripe they can only be stored for a short period of time;
  • if you need to transport tomatoes far, it is convenient to do this unripe;
  • low temperature outside or in a greenhouse can lead to tomatoes being sour (artificial ripening of fruits leads to the same result);
  • Tomatoes will be especially tasty if they were grown in a well-warmed (and preferably sunny) place;
  • tomatoes do not tolerate high temperatures when rolled into jars (but they turn out very appetizing when pickled in barrels);
  • It is recommended that the crop bushes stop growing artificially (to do this, the tops of the stems are pinched about 30-40 days before the end of the season);
  • to protect the plant from late blight, you need to remove some of the leaves from the bottom of the bush (optimally up to 1/3 of the height), and also thoroughly ventilate the crop;
  • The first tomato fruits begin to set after the 8th leaf.

The Amur Tiger tomato is a rare variety that definitely deserves the attention of gardeners. Its description will tell you more about this. As the photos of the fruits suggest, they also have a very unusual appearance. The tomatoes are deep red with light stripes.

They are especially tasty to add to your menu fresh - by preparing juicy salads (including warm ones) from such tomatoes, grinding them into sauces, using pieces as a base for various savory snacks.

Rules of care

Timely loosening of the soil and weeding will help get rid of pests and fungi. Fertilizing should be done regularly; organic and mineral fertilizers should be used. Tall bushes must be tied to a support, and stepchildren must be torn off.

Watering is recommended to be done using the drip method. Water should only fall on the root system of the bushes. Gardeners are advised to regularly visually inspect plants for pests or fungal infections. If unpleasant symptoms appear, you should remove the affected leaves or branches, collect insects, and treat the bushes with a special preparation. Spraying of bushes is also carried out for preventive purposes.

  1. Semyon Ivanovich, 67 years old:
    I saw the Tiger variety on my sister’s plot. I liked the unusual color. Tomatoes are ideal for pickling in their entirety. The preparations turn out elegant, and the fruits themselves are very dense and tasty. Tomatoes have a sweetish taste, the flesh is juicy, and there are few seed chambers. The only drawback is that the bushes require tying and pinching. Plants are not demanding of water. It seemed to me that, on the contrary, due to lack of moisture, the fruits have a more pronounced taste and aroma.
  2. Victoria Pavlovna, 52 years old:
    I learned about this amazing variety from my niece. She has been growing striped tomatoes for several years. This year I planted several bushes in the greenhouse. The result was an excellent, rich harvest. All tomatoes are smooth, round, and perfectly stored fresh, thanks to their high density. The taste is sweet, slightly sour. It was a shame to process such beautiful tomatoes into juice and sauce, so I marinated them whole. I recommend this unusual variety to everyone.

Pinching, tying

Gartering for the Amur Tiger tomato variety is a mandatory procedure. It is recommended to carry it out using a vertical trellis. A loop of twine is created on the stem of the plant. Before the seedlings are planted in the greenhouse, you need to stretch the wire in it at a height of approximately 1.5-2 m.

Be sure to leave space - distances that will correspond to the planting pattern.

In the future, you will need to twist the regrown top of the stem weekly around the twine, which is attached to the wire. At the same time, it is important to constantly remove emerging stepsons. To do this, the plant is inspected every 2-3 days. Stepchildren should not grow to more than 4-5 cm. They must be removed in time so that these parts do not take over important nutrients.

If tomatoes are grown in greenhouse conditions, then it is imperative to regularly shake the flower clusters that appear. This allows the ripe pollen to spill out. Then it will fall on the stigma of the pestle.

Description of the variety “Siberian Tiger”

Description of the Siberian Tiger tomato:

  • the plant is tall and when grown indoors its height can reach 1.5-2 m;
  • the leaves are long, thick, bright green;
  • foliage is average;
  • inflorescences of the intermediate type are quite powerful, with a large number of ovaries - 3-7 pieces on one stem;
  • Up to 6-8 tomato tassels are formed on one shoot.

Description of fruits

The fruits of the Siberian Tiger tomato, found in our country, have a round shape, resembling a ball or semicircular. The skin of tomatoes is smooth. But American-bred vegetables have a peculiar ribbing. The structure of the fruit is dense, the pulp is tender and fleshy, the skin is thin.

Important! The shape of the fruits of the Siberian Tiger variety may differ among different companies that produce one or another batch of seeds. The color of unripe tomatoes is light green, with characteristic stripes emerging.

It was thanks to them that the variety got its name - “Siberian Tiger”. These stripes make the color of the tomato similar to the color of the animal's skin. Fully ripe tomatoes are purple-pink in color with prominent black lines. Tomato shoulders near the stalk with a blue-violet tint

The tomato's shoulders near the stalk have a blue-violet tint.

The average weight of a ripe tomato is about 150-200 g, on the first cluster up to 300-400 g. The fruits of the Siberian Tiger are multi-chambered, with a large number of medium-sized seeds. The tomato pulp is red, with a sugary structure at the fracture. The taste of tomatoes is sweetish, with a pronounced fruity aroma.

The leaves are emerald in color and medium in size. When growing, bushes must be shaped. Gardeners pinch the top of the plant to prevent the vegetative part from growing.

From the moment the seedlings develop until the harvest ripens, it takes about 3.5 months. After the formation of 4-5 leaves, the first inflorescences are formed. The remaining ovaries are formed after 2-3 leaves. The ovaries are brush-shaped, each of them ripens about 8-12 tomatoes.

The fruits are round in shape and resemble apples in color and appearance. The weight of one fruit is 40-80 g. Tomatoes have juicy, dense pulp. The skin of tomatoes is dense and does not crack. The color of ripe specimens is red with orange stripes, they are similar to the color of the skin of a tiger cub.

The Siberian Tiger tomato was created by US scientist breeders under the leadership of Mark McCaslin by crossing two other types of tomatoes - the King of Beauty and the Blue. This vegetable belongs to the indeterminate species and is rightfully considered an exotic variety. This tomato will be included in the State Register in 2022.

Description of fruits

And it was not created in Siberia, as it turned out, but in one of the warmest countries in the world - the USA. This is an outright hybrid and they treat it differently, not everyone approves. But it’s too beautiful! American breeder Mark McCaslin obtained this species by crossing the King of Beauty and Blue varieties.

This variety is indeterminate - that is, it will grow indefinitely unless the top is removed. And you will have to fight your way through your own greenhouse with a machete in your hands. I removed the tops and limited the growth of the bush. The variety is mid-season, that is, the fruits ripen three to four months after germination.

Tiger striped tomatoes are round, medium-sized, red with yellow stripes, thick skin, good for canning and freezing. Fruit weight is 30-50 grams.

The variety is mid-season, productive, recommended for cultivation in open ground and greenhouses. Bush up to 1.5 meters high. Requires tying to the support and pinning. Good results are obtained by forming a plant with 2 stems.

If you grew Tiger tomatoes, please write whether you liked them or not. What was the yield and taste of the fruits like under your climatic conditions? Briefly describe the advantages and disadvantages of this tomato in your opinion. If possible, attach a photo of these tomatoes to your comment. Thank you!

Your feedback and additions to the description will help many gardeners evaluate the variety objectively and decide whether to plant it or not.

This is a natural variety of tomato. Therefore, we recommend taking seeds from a ripe fruit and growing them again next season!

Tomato variety Amur Tiger

Tomato / 01/22/2019 / Loading…

The unusual coloring of tomatoes has long been firmly established in garden fashion. The podium beds display crops of the most unusual colors. But there are still tomato growers who prefer classic red-fruited varieties.

I would like to advise such garden conservatives to plant an unusual, even exotic variety on the site as an experiment, belonging to the so-called bicolors. It has a rather loud name - the Amur tiger, and is recognized by many vegetable growers as the most delicious among the striped species. The new product was announced not so long ago, in 2014.

Breeders from Agrofirm Aelita LLC worked on its creation. The unique tomato was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2015 and received admission to all regions of the country. Recommended for growing in open ground and under film covers in private farms.

Despite such a young age, the Amur Tiger has already received enthusiastic responses, although, as always, it was not without criticism. But first things first.

Description

The plant is of indeterminate type, 1.5 - 2.0 meters high. Shoot formation is moderate, foliage is above average. The stem and shoots are strong, quite thick, the root system is well developed. The leaves are of the usual type, medium in size, with a slightly wrinkled surface, dark green in color.

The general impression of the bush is that it is beautiful, powerful, but neat. The inflorescence is intermediate. The type of fruiting is carpal, so the overall yield is high. The first inflorescence is formed above the 7th leaf, the subsequent ones appear every 3 leaves. In each tomato fruit cluster, 8 - 12 ovaries are formed.

On the main stem of the Amur Tiger, 20 - 25 tomatoes can be formed at the same time. Pedicel with articulation.

During the fruiting period, the bushes of this variety present an amazing sight. They are hung with fruits of exotic colors, which are unusual both in the ripening stage and in the period of full maturity. The tomatoes are aligned, flat-round in shape, with slight ribbing, and medium density. The State Register describes the tomatoes as large, weighing 240 grams.

The originator claims a more modest weight of 120 - 150 grams. But there is a lot of evidence from vegetable growers about large-fruited plants; specimens grow really heavy, weighing up to 300 grams and even more. By the way, many tomato growers grow small tomatoes, weighing from 50 to 80 grams, this result, of course, is disappointing. It can only be explained by re-sorting.

The description of the Amur Tiger states that all tomatoes, both in the lower and upper clusters, are the same size. But tomato growers disagree, noting that the tomatoes in the lower clusters are still larger than those in the upper ones. The color of the unripe fruit is unusually beautiful - dark green stripes and spots appear in contrast against a light green background, as if imitating a tiger color.

When ripe, the color of a true varietal tomato changes to red or chocolate, and the stripes remain green (and not yellow-orange, as many describe). The skin is thin, slightly glossy. The pulp is dark red, tender, juicy, aromatic. Seed chambers - 6 pieces. They are small, filled with a sufficient amount of seeds. The State Register notes the taste as good.

But, according to reviews from those who grew the variety, the taste is excellent, the taste is sweet, with a slight sourness.

Characteristics

  • In terms of maturity, the Amur tiger is classified as mid-season. The period from the appearance of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting takes about 108 - 112 days;
  • The marketable yield of fruits under film covers, according to the State Register, amounted to 11.0 - 11.5 kg per 1 square meter. Approximately these figures are confirmed by vegetable growers - about 3.0 kg is obtained from one plant, and from 1 sq. meters - about 11.0 kg;
  • According to the observations of vegetable growers, the crop is able to tolerate cold weather and show good results even in open ground. But the plant is not so resistant to too high temperatures - some of the flowers may drop, which, naturally, does not affect the yield of the variety for the better;
  • There is information that some flowers suffer from doubleness, which subsequently results in the formation of a large but ugly tomato. Therefore, if you find a flower that is too large, it is better to remove it so that the plant spends energy on forming “correct” tomatoes;
  • If the Amur tiger is raised in an open garden in cool regions, then part of the crop will not have time to ripen. In this case, the practice is to pick tomatoes at the stage of blanzhe ripeness. In room conditions, these fruits ripen perfectly and show the same good taste;
  • the skin is thin, so our hero is prone to cracking of large fruits;
  • immunity is not described in the State Register; the originators also do not provide data on the variety’s resistance to certain diseases. But according to the general opinion of gardeners, the plant is quite resistant to major diseases both in open and indoor ground;
  • The transportability of the crop harvested at the stage of technical ripeness is good. But a significant drawback is the too short shelf life.
  • The method of consuming fruits, according to the State Register, is universal. Tomatoes are suitable for preparing salads, processing into tomato products and whole-fruit canning. Regarding the last method, the opinions of gardeners differ from the official source. Yes, in canning the unusual color of the tomato is preserved, this is, of course, a plus. But the skin of the Amur tiger fruit does not withstand heat treatment and bursts, which does not color the contents of the jar at all.

Agricultural technology

Like most new varieties, our hero is best grown in seedlings. The sowing period recommended by the originators is from March 20 to April 10. But in each region this period is significantly adjusted taking into account climatic conditions.

To correctly determine the sowing time, taking into account all the nuances, you need to know that by the time of transplantation the seedlings should be about 55 - 60 days old. Seeds show almost 100% germination. Preparing seeds and growing seedlings is carried out in the usual way.

The recommended planting density for the Amur tiger is no more than 4 plants per 1 square meter. Like all indents, our hero needs a trellis garter. Pruning must be carried out at least once a week so that the plant does not waste nutrients.

In a greenhouse it is customary to form a plant into 1 stem, outdoors - into 1 - 2 stems. But some tomato growers obtained good results even when forming 3 - 4 stems. Thus, bushes formed into 3 stems formed up to 10 fruit clusters.

Experienced tomato growers recommend watering tomatoes twice a week in hot weather using the drip method. As a top dressing, use universal balanced fertilizers or organic matter, for example, herbal infusions with the addition of ash.

The Amur tiger is still very young to create a holistic picture that fully characterizes this variety.

But every year, small pieces of the mosaic will be put together into a single canvas, and an understanding of how to properly grow this tomato, what it likes and what it doesn’t, will help tomato growers finally form their opinion about the variety.

But it is already becoming clear that our hero will not become just another passing variety. After all, many gardeners have added it to their list of favorite crops.

Moreover, seeds collected from the largest and most beautiful tomato next year can show results no worse, and maybe even better than last year. But for the sake of objectivity, it must be said that there were also those who were dissatisfied with the size of the tomatoes, their taste and thin skin, which does not protect them from cracking in the garden and in the jar.

Characteristics and features of the variety

Tiger tomato grows up to 150 centimeters. The leaves are medium in size and densely cover the stem. The shoots are strong and erect. To get a good harvest, it is better to form 2-3 stems. Requires staking and removal of leaves from the bottom of the stems. This will not only make caring for plants easier, but will also prevent the occurrence of fungal diseases.

Tomato Tiger

Important! Tiger tomato should be limited in development. It forms many stepsons that should be removed

Prefers light, loose soils with low acidity. When grown on heavy, waterlogged soils, the yield decreases and the plant may be affected by late blight.

Blooms before the onset of cold weather. The flowers are simple, collected in a brush of 5-7 pieces. The first brush is formed after the appearance of the 5th permanent leaf. Subsequent inflorescences are formed every 2-3 leaves and are formed throughout the season. So that the tomatoes have time to ripen, leave 6-7 ovaries on the stem.

The fruits are formed in a round shape. The skin has a characteristic “tiger” color of red-orange color, smooth and glossy. Does not crack during storage. The weight of tomatoes is 50-80 grams. The pulp is juicy, fleshy, pink in color. The taste is sweet with a slight sourness. Fruity notes are felt. They stay firmly on the hands and do not fall off in strong winds.

The yield of the variety is high; up to 5 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one bush. The fruits last a long time and are not afraid of transportation. During storage and transportation, the appearance and taste do not change. Tomato Tiger Cub is a mid-season variety. The harvest can be harvested 110-120 days after seed germination. The variety is resistant to late blight and gray rot.

Important! Tiger cub tomatoes can be used both canned and fresh. Looks great when sliced or canned

Suitable for preparing tomato juice.

Characteristics of the variety

It has excellent productivity, from a plot of 1 sq. m. harvest 5 kg or more. Long fruiting and shelf life increase the harvest period. Storage does not deteriorate the appearance and taste. The harvest is well transported. Tomatoes are small, round, with thick skin. It is successfully consumed fresh, frozen, canned, both as whole fruits and in the form of juice.

The Tiger tomato is resistant to many diseases, especially late blight and gray rot.

Features of cultivation

Sowing of seeds begins in late February - early March. For seedlings, store-bought universal soil is best suited. If it is not possible to purchase special soil, then you can use soil from the site, having first warmed it well in the oven.

Tomato Tiger seedlings

The next step is to disinfect the seed material from possible diseases. This can be done with a salt solution or a weak solution of potassium permanganate. There you can also treat the seeds with a growth stimulant for better germination. Stimulants such as Epin-extra, Zircon or Kornevin are used.

Important! The best results are obtained with double use. Use only according to instructions

Plant the seeds according to the 1x1 cm pattern, deepen them by 1-1.5 cm. Cover the container with the planted seeds with film. The soil under the film should be moist, but not wet. Sprouts begin to appear within a week

It is important not to miss this moment and move the container to the south window

Before picking, in the state of two true leaves, the first fertilization is carried out with liquid complex fertilizers. They use diammophos, ammophos, Universal-2 and others.

When picking, damage to the roots should be avoided. It is necessary to plant seedlings while preserving the earthen ball at the roots. Can be transplanted into a box at a distance of 10 cm from each other or into separate cups. After transplanting, the seedlings are well watered. The earthen ball is loosened as needed, providing oxygen access to the roots.

Important! You can replant the Striped Tiger tomato to a permanent place in late May - early June. Frosts should stop by the time of disembarkation.

The temperature during the day should not fall below 18 C.

A sunny, open place is suitable for this variety of tomatoes. The soil on the site should be light and conductive to water well. On heavy soils, add lime at the rate of 1 kg per square meter of bed. Lime should be added when digging in the spring.

Two weeks before the intended transplant, seedlings should begin to be hardened off. To do this, take the boxes out onto the balcony or porch for 15 minutes. The time of such air baths is gradually increased. This will help the plants better get used to new conditions.

Planting in a greenhouse

Tomatoes are planted at the rate of 4 bushes per 1 square meter. m. After transplanting, the tomatoes are well watered. In the future, you should water with warm water at the root. Water after the top layer dries.

Interesting. When there is an excess of moisture, the fruits of Tiger tomatoes become sour. Taking advantage of this feature, you can grow fruits of different tastes.

It is advisable to water in the morning so that the moisture is absorbed into the soil, and when the night temperature drops, hypothermia of the roots does not occur.

Diseases

The Tiger tomato is resistant to the main diseases of the Solanaceae. However, it can be affected by various types of mosaics and bacterial spotting.

You can identify the mosaic by the leaves. They become spotted and decrease in size. The bush lags behind in development and does not bear fruit. Tobacco mosaic cannot be treated. The plant is completely destroyed.

Bacterial spotting causes small dark green spots to appear. Over time, they spread, covering the entire leaf. Can be treated with trisodium phosphate. You cannot take seeds from such plants.

Disinfecting seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate, using three-year-old seeds and following the rules for growing tomatoes will help to avoid these diseases. Preventing a disease is easier than treating it.

Among the insect pests, Tiger tomatoes can be inhabited by spider mites, whiteflies and cutworms. The drug Fufanon will help against these and other pests. You can treat plants with it both indoors and outdoors. It should be remembered that spraying with Fufanon is carried out in open ground 25 days before harvest, and in a greenhouse - 5 days.

Important! With timely pinching and weeding of tomato plantings, pests will not disturb the plants

Treatment for diseases

Folk remedies will also help in the fight against pests. You need to grind 200 grams. garlic, add one liter of water. Infuse in a tightly closed container for five days. For spraying, 25 ml of infusion is diluted in a bucket of water. This remedy will help against aphids, whiteflies and cutworms.

Peculiarities

The Amur Tiger tomato belongs to the category of mid-season tall tomatoes. From the moment of emergence of seedlings to the beginning of fruit ripening, 108 to 112 days pass. The stems of the plant are heavily leafy, the bushes are powerful, dense, their height reaches 0.8-1.2 meters. The leaves are dark green in color and medium in size. The type of inflorescence is intermediate (branched 1-2 times). Several fruits are located on one inflorescence at the same time (8-12 pieces each). Fruit set is high.

As for the Amur Tiger tomato, its characteristics and descriptions of the variety, they come down to the following parameters. The fruits of the plant have a flat-round shape with slightly pronounced ribs. During the ripening process, the color of the pale green fruit gradually turns brownish-red. Unripe tomatoes have a dark green spot at the very base of the fruit. The thin skin of a ripe tomato is decorated with bright yellow stripes. The pulp density is medium, the consistency is juicy and meaty. Inside the fruit there are more than 6 seed chambers with a large number of seeds. The weight of one fruit varies from 30 to 80 g. The fresh harvest can be stored for a short time. The yield of tomato, subject to agricultural technology, is up to 3 kg per plant.

Tomato Amur Tiger

This variety is highly resistant to viral diseases. In particular, the tomato is not susceptible to Alternaria (dry spotting, the appearance of depressed spots with a black coating) and the tobacco mosaic virus (yellow mottling on the leaves, deformation, thinning of the leaves). During cold weather, the plant may be subject to late blight. To avoid infections and related diseases, bushes should be treated with fugincides until the fruits ripen.

Description

Tiger is an early ripening variety. From the moment the sprouts appear until the beginning of the ripening period, 100-110 days pass. The bush is compact, well leafy. Plant height – 15-20 cm, diameter – 40-45 cm.

Simultaneously with fruit set, the shoots acquire a descending position. Densely placed leaves prevent moisture evaporation, and the plant needs watering less often. 6-7 brushes are formed on the bush, each of which has from 4 to 6 ovaries. The fruits are round and small: tomatoes weigh 30-50 g. Thanks to the glossy, dense skin, tomatoes do not crumble and are stored for a long time.

Tomato seedlings

The color of tomatoes fully corresponds to the name of the ampel: upon the onset of biological maturity, the yellow-green color changes to red, which is diluted with orange stripes. Tomatoes have a pleasant sweet and sour taste and a pronounced tomato smell: they are equally good in salads, canned, and frozen.

The average yield of an ampelous plant is more than compensated by the long fruiting and decorative appearance of the plant.

Description and characteristics

The first thing to highlight is:

  • high productivity;
  • pleasant sweet taste;
  • interesting fruit color.

Bushes can grow up to one and a half meters. They produce dense, medium-sized foliage. The leaves have a typical tomato shape and color that can vary from light green to dark shades. The stems are erect, stable and strong. Gardeners who decide to grow the Tiger variety will have to carry out a pinching procedure to slow down the development of green mass. Without it, caring for the bushes will be difficult, especially in a greenhouse shelter.

The procedure will increase the volume of the harvest, because the nutrients will be directed to the formation of fruits. To secure a tall bush, trellises or other supports are used, to which a garter can be attached.

Advice! The best yield level is observed after the formation of several stems (maximum three) and removal of stepsons.

A detailed description of the fruits of the Tiger variety tomato plant includes features:

  • medium size tomatoes;
  • round shape;
  • red color, complemented by yellowish stripes;
  • the skin is dense;
  • weight from 30 to 50 grams on average;
  • Fleshy fruits are easily held on a strong fibrous stalk.

In many seed catalogs and on various websites, the fruits of this variety are characterized as sweet. But sometimes sourness may appear in the taste. This happens when a gardener waters the crop bushes incorrectly.

The variety is classified as mid-season. From the moment of sowing to the production of ripe fruits, an average of 110 to 120 days pass. Inflorescences of a simple type are formed after the full development of 6 permanent leaves. The next ones can be seen through two or three sheets.

Fact. The plant quickly forms brushes on which 4 to 6 ovaries develop.

By growing the Tiger tomato variety, taking into account the reviews, you can achieve good yields. A square meter occupied by plants will produce up to 5 kg of tomatoes. Due to the characteristics of the culture, the fruiting period is long. Harvested tomatoes can be transported over long distances. Mechanical damage and loss of taste do not threaten the fruits. Farmers who choose interesting exotic varieties of tomatoes for sale note the good marketability of the Tiger variety.

In terms of further use, tomatoes are universal. When fresh, they delight with a pleasant sweetish taste, are suitable for canning and are used for processing into tomato juice.

Description of fruits

The shape of the fruits of the Amur Tiger tomato variety is flat-round, with smooth ribs at the stalk. The average weight of 1 fruit is 150-200 g, but tomatoes on the lower clusters can be much larger (record weight - 400 g). The color of the fruit at technical ripeness is green with a darker extensive spot at the stalk. As the fruit ripens, it turns brownish-red with wide dark green stripes, reminiscent of the skin of a tiger.

The skin of Amur Tiger tomatoes is thin. Reviews from those who planted these tomatoes on their plot note their low suitability for whole-fruit canning. Ripe tomatoes are stored for a short time, but are transported quite well, especially in an unripe state or in blanzhesky ripeness.

Characteristics of the taste merits indicate the increased sugar content of the tomato. The taste is sweet, without noticeable sourness. The description of the variety given by gardeners indicates that with cold weather or artificial ripening of tomatoes, the sugar content drops and the taste changes slightly, acquiring a more sour tint. The most delicious vegetables will be those grown in a sunny, well-warmed place.

Tomatoes that have not lost their elasticity can be heated in sliced form and then rubbed through a sieve.

Striped tomatoes are best eaten fresh. Any salad or holiday cut will become spectacular when you add unusually colored slices to it. Beef tomatoes are suitable for making sandwiches, canapés, hamburgers and beautiful, gourmet snacks. The pulp can be used for hot dishes and sauces with tomatoes.

Description of Tiger variety tomatoes, general characteristics and cultivation

The Tiger tomato, or Tiger Cub, is a bright representative of the group of varieties called bicolor. These are tomatoes with variegated, striped or spotted fruits.

General characteristics of the Tiger variety

The bushes are powerful, up to 100-150 cm in a greenhouse and 80-90 cm in open ground. The plant is of the indeterminate type and continues to grow and set fruit until frost. When cultivating in open ground, it is recommended to artificially stop the growth of stems so that the tomatoes formed at the end of summer have time to grow and ripen.

The formation of a bush is carried out in 2-3 trunks. Plants need pinching. In order for the crop to ripen evenly and be less susceptible to fungal diseases, the tomatoes are tied to a support and the leaves are removed up to 2/3 of the height of the bush, starting from the bottom. In this case, you can only remove those leaves that grow below the forming tassel with flowers.

From 1 bush you can collect 3-5 kg of marketable products. The fruits are small (the weight of 1 tomato is 60-80 g), collected in beautiful clusters consisting of 7-12 approximately identical ovaries. Fruit yield depends on cultivation conditions: the variety bears fruit well on light and loose fertile soils with low acidity.

In the conditions of the Moscow region and regions with heavy and excessively moist soils, it can reduce yields or be susceptible to late blight, alternaria and other fungal infections.

Advantages of striped fruits

The main advantage of Tiger tomatoes is their high decorative properties. Tomatoes at the stage of biological ripeness have an orange-yellow color with blurred red stripes, reminiscent of the coloring of a tiger skin. When unripe, tomatoes are yellowish-green in color with dark green stripes.

The shape of the fruit is perfectly spherical. The surface is smooth and shiny. Planting such tomatoes looks very decorative throughout the season.

The characteristics and description of the variety in seed catalogs classify the plant as a mid-season tomato. The first vegetables can be harvested approximately 110 days after sowing.

But even in the open ground you can get a good harvest by removing some of the fruits at blanche and milky ripeness. Tomatoes store well and ripen in room conditions.

The skin of striped tomatoes is quite durable. They are not prone to cracking during ripening. Thanks to this advantage, Tiger tomatoes can stay on the branches for a long time even in difficult weather conditions.

The flesh of striped tomatoes is pink, dense, and coarse when broken. The sugar content of the fruit reaches 5%, and reviews from gardeners characterize the taste of the tomato as sweet, with a slight sourness. The seed chambers are well developed, the fruit is juicy and aromatic.

Small and dense, neat fruits are convenient to use for whole-fruit canning.

The highly decorative coloring of the tomatoes makes these preparations look elegant, and the elastic skin of the fruit keeps them intact even during heat treatment.

It is not advisable to process beautiful tomatoes into juice or sauce. The dull color of the pulp does not provide these varieties of home canned food with a pleasant color. But for the sake of better taste of lecho or ketchup, tomatoes can be mixed with red varieties. Sweet and fragrant striped tomatoes are well suited for drying.

Features of agricultural technology

As with other sweet tomatoes, it is better to allocate a sunny area with light and well-drained soil for Tiger tomatoes. Tiger tomatoes tolerate heat and slight drying out well. Under such conditions, their taste becomes more pronounced. In waterlogged soils, tomatoes develop sourness.

To protect tomatoes from fungal diseases, it is recommended to build high ridges on heavy soils with an artificially created mixture of sand, garden soil and well-rotted organic matter, taken in equal parts. On overly acidic soils, you need to add chalk, fluff or shell to the soil.

The consumption rate is about 1 kg of lime per 1 m². It is necessary to lime the soil during the spring digging of the site.

Growing seedlings is carried out according to the rules common to all tomatoes:

  • sow seeds 60-65 days before planting in the ground;
  • when 1-2 leaves are formed, dive at a distance of 7-10 cm;
  • water with warm water, possibly with the addition of potassium permanganate (light pink solution).

Planting in the ground is carried out after the end of frost, in the 1st decade of June. They can be planted in the greenhouse around mid-May.

Tiger tomato: variety description, characteristics, yield reviews, photos

Gardeners are trying to choose the best crops for the plot. Each variety must meet their requirements and desires. Many people want to find something universal, reliable, proven. This can be called the Tiger tomato. Farmers claim that such tomato plants can develop well in different conditions, be it open or closed ground.

The attention of many is drawn to this variety because of its interesting coloring. Looking at the external characteristics of tomatoes, you can guess why they were called Tiger. But the unique “appearance” of vegetables is not the only thing that makes this type of crop so popular.

Advantages and disadvantages

Many people choose the Tiger variety because of the opportunity to achieve good yields by growing the crop in open and protected ground. During the growing season, the tomato is not at risk of gray rot and late blight, to which the plant has good immunity.

The advantages include the stability of Tiger. Tomato plants produce tasty, high quality fruits with plenty of dry matter. Sugary and aromatic, subject to long-term storage and transportation. Versatility played an important role in the popularity of the variety.

The disadvantages include the need to create support for plants and carry out pinching.

Care

Thorough irrigation is carried out only after transplantation, then you should adhere to the drip irrigation method, uniform. Water is directed under low pressure under the stem so that it reaches the root system. Watering is preferably done in the morning, which allows moisture to be absorbed until night. This prevents the tomato bushes from experiencing a stress response to possible freezing in moist, cool soil.

In terms of fertilizing, it is enough to alternate minerals and organic matter. But you should not ignore symptoms indicating a deficiency of certain compounds.

Sometimes it is necessary to focus on magnesium and calcium in order to achieve balanced development of the plant and avoid diseases and reduced ovary production.

Gardeners should not forget about mulch, which may be needed in cold or hot weather.

Pests and diseases

Pest infestation is not dangerous for those crops that grow outside the weed environment. Gardeners need to periodically go out to the site to weed. If there is no time for this, the ground is mulched. Prevention of some diseases may be advisable, given the weak resistance of bushes to diseases such as bacterial spotting and various types of mosaics.

Reviews

Alexandra

I heard a lot of good things about culture from my neighbor. This is my first year growing Tiger tomatoes and I haven’t noticed any serious problems yet. Once we had to fight aphids, but the bushes recovered from the pest attack quite quickly.

Pauline

Children are delighted with such striped and tasty tomatoes. My husband and I like them canned. The tomatoes are neat and small, easily fit into a jar and do not burst due to the density of the pulp.

Nikolai

I was worried that prolonged rains would ruin the crop. But the bushes were resilient even during storms, and, fortunately, the waterlogging of the soil did not affect the tomato bush.

Albina

I grew these tomatoes in a greenhouse. They bear fruit for a long time, the only problem is that the leaves often curl, but apparently it is necessary to change the watering regime. I think the problem may also be with the quality of the soil.

Christina

An excellent variety with wonderful taste. I haven’t tried canning it, but I always add it to salads. The dish with Tiger tomatoes looks interesting. The guests are always delighted.

Kirill

Despite the immunity of the Tiger variety to late blight, I encountered a problem. Fortunately, the plant was saved and a good harvest was obtained.
