Characteristics and description of the tomato “Siberian Cossack”

Description

Refers to mid-season varieties, the harvest ripens already 110-115 days after emergence. The bushes are tall, indefinite, and can be from 150 to 180 centimeters in height. The formation of the first inflorescence occurs between the 7th and 8th leaves, the rest are formed with an interval of 2-3 leaves.

The fruits are large, weighing 200-300 grams. They have a pepper-shaped shape with a curved nose and turn red when ripe. The pulp is dense, fleshy and has 3-4 seed chambers. This variety is suitable for both fresh consumption and canning. The tomatoes hold their shape perfectly, so you don’t have to worry about covering them whole. Subject to freezing and heat treatment.

If you provide the plant with good care, you can harvest up to 10 kg of tomatoes from one square meter. It can be grown throughout Russia and Ukraine, taking into account the climate of the region.

Growing seedlings

The seeds have excellent germination, which is good news. It is better to buy them from trusted suppliers; before planting, the seeds must be treated in a manganese solution for disinfection. After this procedure, they should be thoroughly washed and placed in a growth stimulator for 12 hours.

You will also need a container for planting seedlings; you can use a wooden box, but if there are not many seeds, you can take peat tablets. The soil must be fertile, purchased in a store or made independently.

Seeds are sown 60-65 days before planting in the ground. The room where the seedlings are placed should be warm and light; if there is not enough light, the seedlings may stretch out and become unusable. It is advisable to place containers with it on the windowsill, having previously insulated it; the soil temperature should not be less than 18 degrees. Picking is carried out at the stage of 1-2 leaves. A few weeks before transferring to the soil, it is recommended to carry out a hardening procedure; this is done so that the plants can better tolerate the transplant and quickly take root in the new place.

Growing rules

Despite the fact that the variety as a whole is very hardy and tolerates both cold and heat well, it is better to plant Siberian Kozyr tomatoes in open sunny areas. There are no requirements for the composition of the soil, but it is desirable that the soil is fertile and moderately moist.

Advice! When planting tomatoes, it is recommended to observe crop rotation. It is best to plant them where nightshade crops previously grew. This arrangement of the bed reduces the likelihood of tomato diseases.

Planting seedlings

This variety is grown in seedlings. Sowing is carried out 50-55 days before planting in open ground.

Algorithm for sowing seeds for seedlings:

  1. Planting material is soaked in a growth stimulator for better germination.
  2. After the seeds have dried, they are buried 1 cm into the soil.
  3. The container with seedlings is covered with film or glass, and then put in a warm place where sunlight does not reach.
  4. As soon as the first shoots appear, the box is moved to the windowsill.
  5. When the seedlings form the first pair of true leaves, they are planted in separate containers. You can use plastic cups or special purchased containers for picking for this.
  6. During the entire period before transplanting, the seedlings are fed and hardened. To do this, the containers are taken outside, increasing the walking time every day.
  7. On the day of transplantation, the seedlings are watered with warm water. This way, it will be easier to get the seedling out of the glass.

Transfer

Before planting tomatoes in open ground, it is necessary to prepare a site for them. To do this, dig up the future bed and dilute the soil with fine-grained river sand and humus. This is usually done in the spring, 14-15 days before planting, no later.

The recommended planting scheme for Siberian Trump tomatoes is 3-4 bushes per 1 m2.

You can learn more about the features of planting tomatoes from the video below:

Aftercare

Caring for Siberian Trump tomatoes is easy. Care includes the most basic procedures. From time to time, plantings are weeded, since weeds are a breeding ground for fungal infections. In order to reduce the number of weeds, you can mulch the beds.

Watering tomatoes should be regular but moderate. It is not recommended to flood the plantings. The main thing is that the soil surface does not dry out or crack. The recommended frequency of watering is once every 3 days.

Important! Water tomatoes exclusively at the root. If moisture gets on the leaves of plants, there is a high risk of causing sunburn. It is advisable to water tomatoes in the evening.

The Siberian Trump tomato bushes cannot be called too tall, but they need a garter. The fruits of this variety are very large, which means that the shoots can break under their weight. Wooden pegs or pipes are used as support. You can also put up a trellis.

This variety is formed into 1-2 stems. Since excess moisture often accumulates under the bushes, this attracts slugs and causes the development of fungus. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to provide this area with a sufficient level of ventilation - the plants are cleaned from below, removing leaves to a height of 20-25 cm from ground level.

The yield of the variety is increased with regular fertilizing. In this case, you should adhere to a number of recommendations:

  1. Mullein cannot be used more than 3 times in a row per season.
  2. Do not overfeed tomatoes with nitrogen fertilizers.
  3. Soon after planting in open ground, tomatoes can be sprayed with a urea solution.
  4. During the fruiting period, feeding is stopped.

Planting in the soil

Young plants are transplanted into the greenhouse in early or mid-May, into open soil closer to the beginning of June, it all depends on weather conditions. The main requirements for replanting are that the soil warms up to 16 degrees and night frosts pass. Also, the plants must be at least two months old. The soil is prepared in advance by watering it with a warm manganese solution for disinfection. Then they dig holes, add organic fertilizers at a distance of about 50 cm from each other and water them. 3-4 bushes are placed on 1 square meter.

Description of the tomato variety Siberian Trump

Siberian Trump tomatoes are classified as determinant varieties, since the growth of this garden crop is limited. The bushes are spreading, medium in height - approximately 70-80 cm in open ground and 90-110 cm in a greenhouse. Each cluster produces on average from 6 to 14 fruits.

Description of fruits

Siberian Trump tomatoes are quite large, as can be seen in the photo below. Their average weight is 400-500 g, however, fruits from the lower branches can grow up to 600-700 g. The shape of tomatoes is round, slightly flattened. The surface is ribbed.

The color of ripened tomatoes is bright red with an admixture of raspberry shades. The tomato pulp is fleshy and juicy.

Care

To obtain high yields, it is necessary to follow the prescribed care recommendations and provide comfortable conditions for the tomatoes. Like all tomatoes, Siberian Cossack loves fertile, well-fertilized soil. Responds well to mineral fertilizers and organic matter. During the active growth phase, the bushes need nitrogen-containing fertilizers; at the stage of ovary formation, you can fertilize the plants with a solution of mullein or bird droppings. During the entire growing season, fertilizers must be applied at least three times.

To prevent fungal diseases in the greenhouse, regular ventilation and watering are required. Tall bushes need to be tied to a support. They are usually formed into 1-2 stems, and the lateral shoots are removed weekly.

Pest and disease control

Throughout the growing season, Siberian Trump tomatoes are recommended to be treated with chemicals or self-prepared solutions. The variety is resistant to a number of diseases, however, sometimes plantings are affected by late blight.

Prevention measures:

  1. Treatment of tomato stems with copper solution. This is done 5-7 days after planting in open ground.
  2. During the flowering period, you should refrain from using chemicals. It is better to treat the plantings with solutions based on natural ingredients: a mixture of milk and water, taken in equal proportions, and garlic infusion.
  3. Strict adherence to watering norms. Plantings should not be flooded, as excess moisture provokes the development of late blight.

Important! At the first signs of late blight, the affected leaves are cut off. If the disease progresses too quickly and has already affected an entire bush, it is dug up and burned. This prevents late blight from spreading to neighboring plants.
