Description and characteristics of the variety

The Joyful tomato was bred by Ukrainian breeders who were able to bring together the best qualities of the plant and create a variety suitable for cultivation in different climatic zones. This is a mid-season variety, suitable for growing both in open ground and in a greenhouse. The ripening period is 110-120 days.

The usual height of the bush is 70-75 cm, although sometimes it can reach one and a half meters. The leaves and stems are dark green, of the ordinary type; if the ovary is abundant, they need to be tied up. Fruiting is extended, tomatoes are collected in clusters of 5-6 pieces, have a red color, dense flesh, elastic skin, weight 150-200 g.

The taste is sweetish with sourness.

Description

A mid-season variety that was bred in Ukraine. The Joyful tomato adapts well to many regions of Russia, but it is worth remembering that in cold climates this variety must be grown in a greenhouse. The plant belongs to the mid-season varieties. This variety of tomatoes is considered determinant; therefore, having reached a certain peak height, it stops growing. The bush can grow up to 1.5 m in height. Leaves of ordinary type. Stems sometimes require additional support and garter if the weight of the fruit lowers them down to the ground.

The fruits are often collected in clusters, on which they can be counted in quantities of 5-6 pieces. Tomatoes grow round, red in color and weighing from 150 to 200 grams. The taste of the fruit is sweet and sour. This variety is suitable for canning and fresh consumption. Ripe tomatoes of the Radostny variety are rich in useful compounds, which contain a high content of carotene. Due to the fact that the fruits are quite strong, and their skin is strong and elastic, tomatoes successfully withstand transportation.

Features of cultivation and storage

When cultivating the variety, preference is given to the greenhouse method of cultivation, although in the southern regions open ground is also quite acceptable, but with obligatory wrapping with film or agrofibre. The main factor for successful growth and maturation is warmth, so there should be no frost during planting.

The planting pattern is 50 to 60, that is, 4 bushes per 1 square meter. m. Be sure to leave space for trellises or other supports - without this, the stems will break. Bushes should be formed into 3-4 stems.

Tomatoes must be stored in a fairly dry and cool cellar. If you pick them in a slightly unripe form, you can enjoy the taste and aroma for 3-3.5 months. In the refrigerator this period is reduced to 7-10 days.

Features during care and planting

This productive variety has an extended fruiting period.
Relatively resistant to many diseases and pests. Seeds are sown for seedlings 60 days before planting in open ground. After the first three leaves appear in pots with young seedlings, future bushes are hardened off and placed on the balcony, provided there is no frost. When planting in a garden bed, holes are first dug and fertilized with complexes of microelements. For 1 sq. m you can place 4 bushes of the Joyful variety. Attention
: To strengthen the roots, it is worth picking the plant when the first leaves appear on it.

Before planting in the garden, the seedlings must grow to 30 cm. Tomatoes can be planted in open ground when there is no threat of night frosts. The ideal period for planting is the beginning of May and the end of April for the southern regions. In order for the plants to feel comfortable in the ground, it is worth placing them at a distance of 45-50 cm from each other. To prevent late blight, it is important to keep a distance when planting tomatoes. The growing season for this variety from germination to fruit formation is 115 days. The fruits at the peak of ripeness are reddish in color, sometimes orange.

For this variety, a certain air humidity is very important, which should not exceed more than 60%, especially in the first two months after planting in an open area. If air humidity is more than 65%, there is a risk of fungal diseases, reduced yields and poor pollination of flowers.

Some information about the plant

The characteristics and description of the variety are as follows:

  1. The fruits ripen 90-104 days after planting the seedlings in a permanent place.
  2. The height of the Child's Joy bush varies between 200-250 cm. To prevent the branches of the plant from breaking off from the weight of the berries, they are tied to strong supports.
  3. The tomato inflorescence is simple.
  4. The bushes have an average number of leaves, colored green.
  5. The fruits have a spherical shape. They are painted red.
  6. The weight of tomatoes ranges from 20 to 30 g. The pulp inside has increased density. There are 2-3 seed chambers on one tomato.

That part of the farmers who planted and grew Children's Joy points out some shortcomings of the variety. Plant bushes are demanding in terms of formation. With incorrect agricultural technology, you can lose up to 30% of the harvest.

Every year you have to buy Children’s Joy seeds, since it is impossible to germinate them yourself due to the loss of the plant’s genetic qualities.

Reviews from gardeners who planted the described tomato show that up to 1500 g of fruit can be obtained from each bush. The average yield of the variety is 5-6 kg of berries per 1 m² of bed.

Due to early ripening, plants have time to bear fruit before late blight develops. But gardeners point out that most often Children's Joy gets sick with blossom-end rot and similar diseases.

Description of the Money Bag tomato, growing in open ground and caring for the plant

Read

You can grow Children's Joy in open ground in the southern regions and in the vast expanses of central Russia. In Siberia and the Far North, it is recommended to grow this tomato in well-heated greenhouse complexes.

Growing and care

In mid-latitudes, the “Joyful” variety is recommended to be grown in greenhouse conditions or high film cover. The rapid growth of the bushes will depend on the light level 50-60 days before planting. As for planting, it is best to do it according to the scheme: 50-60 centimeters between plants. It will be necessary to tie it to the supports, otherwise the stems will break during fruiting. It is better to form them into 3-4 stems.

To sow tomatoes for seedlings, it is better to start the process at the end of the month of February. And this must be done before the middle of March. But if you grow tomatoes in greenhouses, then sowing should be done in the month of April.

As soon as the first shoots appear, you need to start feeding the soil. An excellent top dressing for the “Joyful” variety is “Novofert – tomato, pepper, eggplant.” Gardeners say that this is an excellent mineral complex, thanks to which the bushes will receive the required amount of phosphorus for the development of the root system. So, a half-kilogram pack contains two formulas for 2 stages of the growing season of tomatoes.

As for the humidity of the earth, it is somewhat less important than heat. It is of the greatest importance for the bushes to develop normally to keep the humidity within a reasonable range - 60-65 percent. And if the air humidity is higher, then you should expect a deterioration in flower pollination. Moreover, they begin to fall off, and the bushes can become susceptible to fungal diseases. Among them are not only blackleg, but also late blight, stretching of stems, and reduced yield.

Important! Consider the heat-loving nature of tomato bushes and the fact that the seeds should be kept under a film cover before the first shoots appear, and then watered only with warm water.

Features of cultivation

Caring for the Tomato Variety My Joy is no different from other types of vegetable crops. To grow healthy seedlings and reap a generous harvest, you need to carry out the following manipulations:

  • Sowing. To obtain seedlings, seeds are sown in containers 50–55 days before planting in a permanent place. The optimal depth of the furrows is 2–3 cm. To prevent the soil from drying out, cover the container with glass or film on top. As soon as the sprouts appear, the shelter is gradually removed.
  • Transfer. If necessary, at the age of 2–3 true leaves, seedlings are plucked. Tomatoes are ready for planting in open ground after the formation of 5–6 leaves.
  • Treatment against diseases and pests. Since the characteristics and description of the variety contain information about the crop’s resistance to diseases, it is rarely necessary to process the bushes while ensuring the right conditions. Those who planted these tomatoes note that for prevention purposes, the plants should be sprayed with Bordeaux mixture at intervals of 2 weeks.
  • Watering. Tomatoes grow best in moderately moist soil. In hot weather, the crop is watered once every 7 days. In case of regular precipitation, the frequency is reduced.
  • Feeding. Mineral and organic fertilizers are applied to the bushes 3 times. The main rule for successfully feeding tomatoes is that overfeeding should not be allowed. Nitrogen is applied especially carefully, since an excess of the substance provokes the growth of greenery to the detriment of the fruits.
