The history of the creation of the tomato variety Mikado pink
For several years in a row, a group of professional breeders worked on creating the Mikado Pink variety. The authorship was shared by: Gavrish S.F., Mreev V.V., Amcheslavskaya E.V., Degvtsova T.V., Volok O.A., Artemyeva G.M., Redichkina T.A.
- The applicant of the variety is LLC "Gavrish Breeding Firm"
- The originator of the variety is Gavrish Breeding Company LLC, Moscow.
In 2013, the variety was ready for testing. He was put to work and for two years, 12 breeding stations across the country studied varietal characteristics and characteristics. The date of registration of the variety with inclusion in the register of selection achievements is 2015.
Many experienced vegetable growers are perplexed about the novelty of the variety. The fact is that the name “Mikado” has been around since the middle of the last century. With just one memory, everyone knew that these were pink, tasty and sweet tomatoes.
There is information that the Mikado comes from the Czech Republic. It was from there that the seed was brought and then the selection continued.

Lovers of large pink tomatoes can often find the Mikado pink variety in their garden beds. Many gardeners call the variety “Imperial” not only for its literal translation from Japanese, but also for its excellent taste and sweetness, worthy of an imperial table.
Mikado pink is suitable for growing on personal plots and in greenhouses. The variety has gained a good reputation among lovers of growing their own tomatoes.
Description
The Cultivar Register describes the "Mikado" tomato as:
- salad:
- mid-early;
- indeterminate;
- pink;
- flat-round.
Characteristics of the bush
Indeterminate growth of the variety means that the shoot does not end with a flower cluster, but continues to grow. By autumn, “Mikado pink” reaches two or even more meters. The bush rests on the ceiling of the greenhouse and the grower is forced to pinch it.
If you form it into two shoots, and you don’t need more, then the Mikado will get dense, powerful, two fingers thick. Such a shoot can easily support a decent harvest of large fruits.
The leaf is green, medium in size, potato type.
Fetal characteristics
The fruit of the “Mikado pink” variety is flat-round in shape. During the ripening period, it bears a green spot on the stalk. Then it gradually dissolves, and the fruit gains pink colors.
The average weight of a tomato according to the register is 300-360 g.
According to reviews from gardeners who grew the variety, this figure is very underestimated. Vegetable growers claim that the average fruit is more than 400 g. At the same time, it is quite possible to get tomatoes weighing up to 1000 g. The largest fruits emerge from the lower clusters. Higher up they become smaller.
Fruit "Mikado pink":
- flat-round;
- ribbed;
- medium in density;
- with low seed content;
- has more than 6 seed nests.
The content of organic acids and sugars is so impeccable that the tasting results when testing the variety were rated “excellent”. The pulp of the fruit is fleshy, sugary and very pleasant to the taste. The skin is moderately dense and edible.
Distinctive features of the varieties
Three varieties of Mikado are registered in the Russian variety register. They are all different varieties, but with the name "Mikado". Of course, they have their own characteristics and taste:
- “Mikado pink” is the one described in the article;
- “Mikado Chocolate” is included in the register in 2022. The fruit, when fully ripe, is brown, strongly ribbed, and flat-round. The average yield is 13.5 kg per square meter, and the weight of the fruit is 200 g. The taste is “excellent”;
- "Mikado is brown." Flat-round with medium ribbing. Weight ranges from 150-200 g. The variety is assigned a yield of 8.7 kg per m2. The taste is excellent.
By and large, these varieties, except for the name, have the same thing only in that the last two have the same group of authors and all varieties are indeterminate.
Tomato Mikado red: description and characteristics of the variety
Tomato Mikado red: photo of variety
- The taste of the Mikado red tomato variety is excellent. Medium ripeness variety. Indeterminate. The leaves look like potato leaves. It is grown in open beds and in greenhouse conditions.
- The bush reaches a height of 1 m or more. The brush ties the tomatoes at the same time. Form a bush with 1-2 stems.
- The trick of the Mikado red tomato variety is its high immunity to common diseases. The coloring of tomatoes is not particularly red. When the fruits are ripe, they turn dark pink or burgundy. Tomatoes are round, flattened, and have ribs where the stalk is attached.
- The internal contents are compacted and have 10 chambers with seeds. The average weight of a tomato is 270 grams. Dry matter content is 6%. Agricultural technology is exactly the same as caring for relatives. The variety is grown everywhere, excluding Siberian and Far Eastern territories.
Characteristics
The Mikado pink tomato deserves attention. Its taste is well known to all gardeners who grew the variety.
Advantages and disadvantages
Listing the advantages of the variety, we can focus on the following positions:
- large-fruited;
- excellent taste;
- sweet;
- fleshy;
- suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
As disadvantages:
- the need for tying up shoots and fruits;
- the color of processed products is pale. To improve, you need to add rich red tomatoes.
In fact, these shortcomings cannot be considered disadvantages, but rather properties of the variety.
Ripening time and yield
Mikado pink mid-early variety. It takes 100-105 days from full germination to fruit ripening.
The tomato is intended for production under film covers, therefore, in open ground the timing may be shifted. Only the southern regions can afford to grow the variety in the garden.
The tomato yield is within the range of 13.5-14 kg per square meter. meter of greenhouse area. Since two bushes can fit in this area, the vegetable grower will take 6-7 kg of tomatoes from one bush. Vegetable growers describe that from a bush you can easily take 3-4 very heavy fruits, 5-6 smaller ones and several fruits weighing up to 150 g.
Resistance to diseases and pests
When registering the variety for the registry, experts did not indicate the special resistance of the Mikado Pink variety to any tomato diseases. This means that it is affected by all tomato diseases in the same way as any other variety or hybrid.
If there are constant microclimate disturbances in the greenhouse or the pathogen has already settled in the soil or on equipment, then Mikado will not resist.
Mikado black
The Mikado black tomato has a strange appearance, although the color of the vegetable does not correspond to the name. A fully ripe tomato turns brown or dark crimson in color with a brown-green tint. The mid-season variety has an indeterminate standard bush. In open ground, the stem is limited to a height of slightly more than 1 m. With a closed growing method, the bush grows up to 2 m in height. Tomatoes are grown with one or two stems. Excess stepsons are removed when they grow to 4 cm in length. The foliage of the lower tier is also cut off to allow the fruits access to sunlight.
According to the description, the Mikado black tomato differs from its counterparts mainly in the color of the pulp. The fruits grow round and strongly flattened. On the walls near the attachment of the stalk there is a pronounced ribbing similar to large folds. The skin is thin and durable. The tomato pulp is tasty; there are up to 8 seed chambers inside, but the grains are small. Dry matter content – no more than 5%. The average weight of a vegetable is 300 g, but larger specimens also grow.
With good care, the Mikado black tomato variety can produce a yield of up to 9 kg per 1 m2. Tomatoes are not suitable for industrial greenhouse cultivation. The variety is thermophilic, which is why in cold regions there is a decrease in yield.
Tomatoes are usually consumed fresh. The fruits can be salted or pickled in a barrel. The juice is tasty, but not all vegetable growers like the unusual dark color.
Features of cultivation
The exact origin of the Mikado black variety is unknown. However, this vegetable has been grown for a long time. The crop bears fruit in almost all regions, but it is better not to grow such a tomato in Siberia. In the south and in the middle zone, tomatoes bear fruit before the onset of cold weather. The fruits are demanding of sunlight. If shaded, the vegetable loses its taste. The open growing method is preferable for warm areas. In other cases, a greenhouse will be required.
Considering the description of the Mikado black tomato variety, it should be noted that the plant loves loose soil and a lot of fertilizing. Formation and garter of the bush is required. Seedlings are planted 4 plants per 1 m2. If the area allows, then it is better to reduce the number of bushes to three. Watering is carried out at least 2 times a week, but you need to watch the weather.
Important! Mikado black loves sunlight and at the same time is afraid of heat. This is a big problem for the vegetable grower, who has to provide comfortable conditions for the tomato.

Reviews
Now let's read reviews from vegetable growers about the Mikado black tomato.
Gregory, Novorossiysk
I call the Mikado black tomato a hard worker variety. The bushes grow powerful with large potato foliage, and there is a sea of fruit on them. The yield is excellent and I like the taste of tomatoes. Of course, the color is unusual. I don’t use it for juice, but the fruits are ideal for salads and pickles.
Lyudmila, s. Nashchekovo
I like the taste of Mikado black tomato fruits. They can crack only when there is an abundance of moisture. I grow no more than five bushes every year so that I have enough to eat.
Picking to a permanent place
If the greenhouse is heated, then from a common container you can plant seedlings directly to a permanent place. This is done at the age when two permanent leaves appear. Seedlings are planted in an unheated greenhouse at the age of 55-60 days.
The distance between plants is maintained at 55-60 cm. When transplanting, the seedlings are deepened. This will allow it to develop an additional root system. The soil is compacted and immediately watered with warm water.
Advice. "Mikado pink" develops very powerful shoots. This needs to be provided for. The shoots should not be allowed to bend.
It is better to equip the support and fixation system in advance. To do this, use any available materials that require fastening reliability.
Tomato Mikado Sibiriko: variety description and reviews
Tomato Mikado Sibiriko: photo of variety
Also popular, like its pink relative, is the tomato variety Mikado Sibiriko, because its tomatoes have exactly the same color. The characteristics are identical.
Indeterminate tomato, medium ripeness. In open beds, the tomato reaches a height of 1.8 m, in greenhouse conditions - 2 m or more.
Extra shoots need to be pinched. If the formation of a bush occurs in 2 stems, then under the first tassel there remains one stepson - the future stem. Tall bushes must be tied to a trellis.
When the fruits are ripe, they turn pink. Unlike the pink variety, they are heart-shaped. Tomatoes attract attention when they are unripe and ripe. There are ribs on the surface of the tomato, where the stalk is attached. The tomatoes reach a large size.
The average weight of a Mikado Sibiriko tomato is 400 g, but there are also record holders of 600 grams. The internal contents of tomatoes are juicy and contain small amounts of seeds. Harvest – 8 kg/bush. Tomatoes are eaten fresh. The dense peel prevents the fruit from cracking. But their storage is still not long-term. The variety has higher immunity to popular diseases.
How to grow the variety
The tomato variety Mikado Sibiriko is grown in seedlings. Seeds are sown depending on the climate of the growing area. When you are going to plant seedlings in a permanent place, they must be 65 days old.
If you plant 3 bushes on one square, then expect a high harvest. There is no need to plant more than 3 bushes, because the harvest will be smaller. And the risk of late blight infection will increase significantly. It is necessary to care for the variety in the same way as for all Mikado varieties.
The formation of a bush in the Mikado Sibiriko tomato occurs in 1-2 stems. The lower leaves are torn off. It is necessary to water on time, fertilize, loosen the soil, weed, and remove weeds. It is necessary to carry out preventive measures, namely, spraying plants to combat nightshade diseases.
Real reviews about tomato Mikado Sibiriko
Vladislav, Tomsk region: “After I planted the pink variety Mikado, I didn’t want to grow it anymore. Tomatoes, of course, have a pleasant taste, but the variety itself is whimsical. I heard about the tomato variety Mikado Sibiriko on TV. Took it at your own risk. It is much better to care for the variety. Tomatoes are meaty, but do not last long. The species did not suffer from late blight.”
Valentina, Novosibirsk region: “Among all the Mikado varieties, I only like the Mikado Sibiriko tomato. Tomatoes are suitable for salads and juices. It’s easy to care for, even though the bush is tall. The plant is disease resistant. The breeders are great, they did a good job. Tomatoes grow until September. For preventive purposes, I treat with Bordeaux mixture against late blight.”
Features of tomato care
Mikado pink tomatoes are very large. To make a good commercial yield you need a lot of balanced nutrients and water.
Watering and fertilizing
Initially, after planting, the seedlings are watered once every 3-4 days. Further, with increasing vegetation mass, water requirements increase. Watering should be:
- regular (once every 3-4 days);
- abundant (with wetting of the entire root zone);
- nutritious (with the addition of nutritional supplements).
To prepare a stock solution for feeding, dissolve 1 kg of pig, horse or cow manure or 0.5 kg of chicken manure in a bucket of water. Stir and leave for a day. Next, add 1 liter of nutrient stock solution to a bucket of irrigation water. Such feeding is carried out once every 13-15 days.
Supports garter pinning
Large mikado shoots require timely garter. The fruits, as they grow, give a certain load and also require fixation.
It is better to cultivate in two shoots. For this, one lower stepson is left. All others are removed when they reach 1.5-2 cm.
Weeding loosening mulching
Weeds compete with tomatoes for nutrients, moisture, and light. They are also home to insects and infectious disease pathogens. They have no place in the tomato patch.
Regular loosening of the soil improves aeration. However, this must be done carefully near the root system.
Features of cultivation
The only effective method of growing Mikado pink tomatoes is considered to be seedlings. Seedlings are planted in open soil approximately 2 months after planting the seeds. This should be taken into account when determining when to plant seed in a container.
Mikado pink tomato seeds can be bought in the store or used independently collected from the fruits of the previous harvest.
The soil for seedlings needs light, permeable soil. You can buy it ready-made or make it yourself by combining equal parts of garden turf, rotted compost and sand. Ideally, add wood ash and superphosphates to the soil. Self-prepared soil mixture is disinfected by treatment with a solution of potassium permanganate or calcination in the oven.
It is better to use individual containers for seedlings (you can take plastic glasses or peat pots). If this is not possible, it is permissible to plant seed material in one large container. The main condition for choosing containers for seedlings is the convenience of their placement and the presence of drainage holes.
The seeds are planted in a container, buried 1 cm into the soil. The soil is evenly moistened and covered with glass or film to create greenhouse conditions. After the shoots emerge, the film is removed.
Seedlings are picked after the appearance of 2 true leaves.
Mikado pink tomatoes are planted in unprotected soil after warming it to 10 °C. This is approximately the first half of May. Seedlings can be planted in closed ground as early as April.
Choose a site for Mikado pink tomatoes that is sunny and protected from gusts of wind. Tomatoes take root normally after crops such as onions, beets, cabbage, cucumbers, beans, and carrots. Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplants are considered bad predecessors.
Important! When growing tomatoes with 1 stem per 1 sq. m, 4 bushes are planted, when formed into 2 stems - 3.
Before moving into open ground, seedlings are hardened off
Subsequent steps for caring for Mikado pink tomatoes include:
- Regular watering, performed as the soil surface in the garden bed dries out
- Loosening the soil after the next watering and removing weeds as they appear.
- Formative pruning and removal of stepsons - bushes are formed into 1 or 2 stems. In the case of growing Mikado pink tomatoes into 1 stem, all stepsons are cut off without exception. In another case, 1 stepson is left under the first bunch of flowers, from which another stem subsequently grows.
- Gartering the stems - trellises or strong stakes are used for this. In some cases, it may be necessary to install additional supports to support large tomatoes.
Important! Stepchildren over 5 cm in length must be pruned.
For normal growth and good yield, Mikado pink tomatoes are systematically fed. The first feeding is done immediately after picking. To do this, it is recommended to use organic fertilizers, in particular, tree ash. 2 weeks after planting, nitrogen fertilizers are added to the soil, and phosphorus fertilizers are added during the formation of ovaries.
Mikado pink is fed 3 times
What you need to know to get a good harvest
Getting a good harvest of a large Mikado tomato is not difficult. To do this, you need to fulfill a number of requirements:
- observe temperature and humidity conditions;
- carry out timely watering and fertilizing;
- clean stepchildren regularly;
- carry out fixation of shoots and fruits.
Advice. After planting seedlings, try to give it everything you can as much as possible. In this case, it will not fully reveal its genetic potential.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Tomato Mikado black
Benefits of Mikado:
- large fruit;
- rich color palette of fruits;
- rich sweet taste;
- possibility of growing in open and protected ground;
- immunity to tomato diseases.
Disadvantages of the variety:
- the need for gartering and pinching;
- sensitivity to temperature changes;
- low transportability.
The nuances of growing in open and closed ground
The variety is recommended for all regions, but for closed ground. Southerners allow themselves to grow mikado in the garden, but only in seedlings. Spring comes early for them, and autumn comes late. Over the long summer, the tomato has time to gain strength, absorb heat and sun and show all the beauty of the pink tomato. However, even in the garden it requires good supports and constant garters.
Mikado pink is intended for closed ground. His growth power is great. Having reached the ceiling of the greenhouse, the shoots need to be pinned.
There are no special nuances in growing the variety. Like any other variety, Mikado needs to be watered and fed regularly.
Farmer reviews
Feedback from farmers about Mikado tomatoes is mostly positive . The fruits of this variety are as large and beautiful as in the photo.
Irina, Sochi: “I’ve been growing Mikado for more than 10 years. I tried all varieties of this variety. I like the black ones best, as they are the sweetest. Golden Mikado is the most beautiful. A tomato rarely gets sick even when grown in open ground.”
Alexander, Ryazan: “Tomato Mikado is the most favorite variety. Loved because of its large and sweet fruits. The largest tomato of this variety that I managed to obtain weighed 680 g. I form the bushes into one stem, so the fruits are larger.”
Diseases and pests
The most common greenhouse diseases of tomatoes include:
- cladosporiosis. With this disease, yellow spots appear on the leaf blades, then they merge and the leaf falls off;
- anthracnose Fruits are affected. The fungus infects their flesh and they turn into mummies;
- ascochyta blight When the pathogen works, the stem is affected. Spots with gum sweat appear on it;
- powdery mildew. The entire vegetation mass is covered with a flour coating. In this case, several parasitic fungi work simultaneously.
Vegetable growers who grew Mikado pink tomato in safe greenhouses do not complain about the instability of the variety.
Disease and pest control
When the first signs of disease appear, the plant needs help. To do this, you can use a number of plant protection products:
- Pseudobacterin-2 - for cladospora blight;
- Poliram - for ascochyta blight and cladsporiosis;
- Quadris - for late blight, powdery mildew, anthracnose.
You cannot give the pathogen a chance to multiply and capture all the plants. When the first signs appear, treatment should begin in accordance with the instructions for the drug.
Preventative treatments
If the greenhouse is already infected and the pathogen is identified, then preventive spraying is used even before the symptoms appear with the same drugs as for therapeutic purposes. By using the product in the early stages, you can prevent an increase in the virulence of the microorganism and prevent growth.
A very important point in the epizootic well-being of a greenhouse is:
- annual disinfection with sulfur dioxide;
- complete or partial replacement of soil;
- ventilation;
- maintaining humidity at 60%;
- growing tomato monoculture.
Agricultural technology variety "Mikado"
Seedlings begin to be sown in the second half of March, adhering to the gardener's lunar sowing calendar.
You can always buy soil in most stores; during the season, they sell soil for seedlings of flowers and crops at various retail outlets that are not even related to gardening. This soil has an optimally balanced composition; you do not need to add any additional fertilizer while the seedlings grow in it. It is better to buy ready-made pots made of cardboard or peat for purchased soil; they will help you save time on picking and protect the root system during transfer to a permanent place, since they are planted in holes directly with this pot. If you want to use your soil, it should be garden soil, humus and sand. You also add a spoonful of superphosphate here, pour boiling water over it in advance to remove parasites, and also add a handful of ash. You can pour this soil into separate pots or into a common container. Don't forget that there should be holes in the containers for drainage. Now we move on to pre-sowing treatment.
First you need to select the seeds for germination; this is done simply with the help of water. Seeds that have not sunk are empty and do not need to be planted. To make the crops germinate better and for additional immunity, you can soak the seed material in aloe juice. Then the seeds are sown to a depth of 1.5 cm at a distance of 2-3 cm from each other, this is if the container is shared. Next, the soil is watered and covered with film. After about 7-10 days, all your seedlings should sprout, remove the film, watch the lighting and watering. Picking is carried out when 3-4 true leaves appear on the seedlings.
Transfer to the greenhouse will be from the beginning of May, to the street in the third decade of the month or in June. The soil is prepared in advance and the supports too. Planting should be done 50/50 cm. A high, strong support is immediately placed in the hole. Mikado tomatoes love light, so choose the sunniest area. If the summer turns out to be cloudy, then lamps will be needed. The soil is first spilled with boiling water to kill the pathogenic environment, after which, when it is moderately dry, holes are dug and superphosphate is sprinkled in a spoonful. The seedlings are planted in moistened soil, and they are gradually tied around a support. A week after planting, the seedlings are earthed up.
Tomato varieties with photos and descriptions
As it grows, you will need to remove the lower branches, all the stepchildren, to form one stem. Stepchildren need to be plucked when they reach 5 cm, this should be done either in the morning or in the evening. You will also need to pinch the main stem to limit its growth. Apply fertilizers for the first time 10-14 days after planting; these should be fertilizers with a high nitrogen content to increase green mass; then such fertilizers should be canceled and replaced with complexes with phosphorus and potassium. You can water the seedlings with an infusion of mullein, droppings, weeds, and yeast. The first two are prepared at the rate of 1:10 and 1:20. An infusion of weed is prepared in an arbitrary volume; a 10 gram bag of yeast is taken per bucket of water.
In the characteristics of the Mikado pink tomato, we have already mentioned that tomatoes are disease resistant. Therefore, they should not get sick, but you can carry out prophylaxis a couple of times using a weak solution of manganese. Spraying is carried out in the morning or evening. Also remember that if you grow seedlings in a greenhouse, it must be regularly ventilated.
All these steps will help you get excellent and, most importantly, tasty tomatoes. You will see that they are worth it.
Collection, application and storage of crops
Mikado pink - salad tomato. Its appearance and taste will satisfy even a gourmet. The fruits are collected in a state of brown ripeness and ripened at above-zero temperatures in a dark place. For quick ripening, you can add a completely ripe fruit or apple to them.
To delay the ripening of already harvested tomatoes, they are placed in a cool room.
Mikado makes excellent thick tomato products:
- juice;
- sauce;
- tomato paste;
- lecho.
To ensure a rich, classic color, red fruits are added during processing.
Specifics of growing crops
Growing a crop has certain characteristics. To get a rich harvest, it is worthwhile to carry out planting work correctly.
Landing dates
It is recommended to plant seeds for seedlings 60-65 days before the intended planting in open soil.
Sowing seeds
Before planting, the seeds should be treated. To do this, soak them in a light solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes, and then immerse them in a solution of wood ash for 5 hours.
It is recommended to plant tomatoes in special cassettes or trays. At the same time, they need to organize high-quality drainage. For tomatoes you should use light soil.
Seedling care
In order for seedlings to develop normally, they require sunlight and timely watering. The first shoots appear 3-5 days after planting. When 2 true leaves grow on the bushes, they should be picked. During the procedure, the strongest plants are planted in separate containers.

Transplantation into open ground
A week before planting seedlings in the soil, it should be treated with Bordeaux mixture. Hardening should also be carried out. To do this, the bushes are taken out into a cool room. If the plants have 7-8 true leaves, they can be planted in open ground.
Planting can be done according to a 50 x 50 centimeter pattern. Thanks to this, it will be possible to achieve excellent ventilation and avoid excessive thickness. When growing tomatoes in one stem, the distance between them is reduced to 18-20 centimeters. The interval between rows is 1-1.2 meters.

It's a pity that the greenhouse is small. I decided to try it in the garden, but it didn’t work. But there are excellent tomatoes in the greenhouse. They assured me that the pink Mikado was cracking, nothing of the sort, that’s not true. A beautiful, large, tasty tomato, but in my region only for the greenhouse.

There may be more productive varieties, but I haven’t found one tastier than Mikado. The tender, fleshy flesh with an indefinite flavor is very good. There are few seeds, no voids. This year the largest was 840. I always lead in one shoot. The heat was incredible, the ovary slightly crumbled, I treated it with boric acid, and I’m happy with the result.

I'm not happy with the seeds. Germination rate is only 70 percent. But I am very pleased with the variety itself. Good tomatoes. Large, tasty, did not hurt. The difficulty arose when they began to bend the whips. It is important for them to stay straight, I had to tie them up with whatever I could. The shoots grow above 2 meters. Next year I won’t feed them like that, they are growing too tall.
Growing seedlings
Mikado tomatoes are grown in seedlings . Otherwise, the fruits simply will not have time to ripen before the onset of cold weather.
The time for sowing seeds depends on the region and on the conditions in which they are going to be planted:
- in the southern regions, seedlings are sown at the end of February or early March;
- in the central zone - in the second half of March;
- in cities with cold climates - in early April.
If you plan to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse , the seeds are sown 14 days earlier. Experienced gardeners recommend checking the timing of work with the lunar calendar.

Real reviews about Mikado tomato varieties
Mikhail, Rostov-on-Don: “I cultivated 3 varieties of Mikado.” The yellow variety was used only for salads. Juice and pickled fruits are not very tasty. The red variety is delicious, but the Mikado Sibiriko tomato is better. It remains to plant the black tomato Mikado for testing.
Vasilisa, Rostov region: “I liked the pink and red Mikado tomato. Yellow is good, but you need to plant 3 bushes to decorate the salad. The black tomato variety Mikado is tasty, but I didn’t like the color of the juice.”

Landing
It is recommended to plant Mikado pink tomato seedlings in their original place no earlier than after 2 years. You cannot use fresh manure as fertilizer when planting. On nutritious manure, rapid growth of the stepsons will begin, the green mass and thickness of the stem will also increase by 1.5-2 times, and the tomatoes will be small and completely inconsistent with the characteristics characteristic of the variety.
Growing seedlings
Seeds should be planted for seedlings in early March. It is advisable to cover containers with seedlings with polyethylene to create a greenhouse effect. When the first shoots appear, the film can be removed and the pots moved to a warm, sunny place. Seedlings should be picked at the stage of 2 true leaves. Picking allows you to activate the development of the root system of sprouts.
10-12 days before planting seedlings in a permanent place of growth, containers with small bushes must be hardened by taking them out into the open air.
Landing in the ground
Planting in the soil is possible on those days when the soil in a greenhouse shelter or in an open garden bed is around 16 degrees Celsius, and at night - not lower than 8 degrees.
For Mikado pink, the optimal planting pattern is 50 x 70 cm. For this, it is advisable to choose beds where dill, zucchini, cauliflower or cucumbers grew last season. The soil should be dug up, a little humus or compost should be added, as well as wood ash. It is recommended to plant seedlings on a cloudy day or in the evening. Since the tall bushes of Mikado rosea require staking, reliable supports should be installed at the same time as planting, for example, 3-meter poles.
