How to grow tomato seedlings in “diapers” according to Galina Kizima’s method

Few people know how to plant tomatoes using Galina Kizima’s method? But this technology allows us to solve the problem of insufficient space for growing seeds for seedlings. Galina Kizima has developed many methods of agricultural development. She created a completely new way of growing tomato seedlings in film. As a result, strong plants are obtained, suitable for further planting in open ground.

This method is optimal for those cases when there is a need to prepare a large number of seedlings for the summer season. But the main thing is that this does not require a lot of free space, which is often in short supply.

Advantages and disadvantages

The traditional method of growing tomatoes involves sowing the seeds in a container filled with soil. Glasses, pots and other containers are often used for this purpose.

However, experienced gardener Galina Kizima suggested planting seeds in non-woven material. For this purpose, dense polyethylene is used. It allows you to use the small amount of land that is required to grow viable seedlings.

The key feature of such a container lies in the ability to retain moisture, which is needed to produce powerful seedlings. This technique is also called “in diapers” or “Moscow style”.

This is due to the fact that it was Moscow residents who first used the technology. This method does not require much space to implement.

Before planting tomatoes, you should definitely familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of the technique.

The key advantages of the procedure include the following:

  1. It is possible to place a large number of seedlings on the windowsill. Thanks to this, it is possible to save space, which is often not enough.
  2. Picking seedlings is carried out very quickly. To do this, just unfold the diaper and pull out one sprout at a time. After this, they can be planted in containers.
  3. Growing seedlings does not require a large amount of land. To grow 100 plants you will need a maximum of 5 kg of soil.
  4. This technique makes it possible to protect tomatoes from diseases. First of all, this applies to the black leg. The likelihood of its occurrence is minimal.
  5. A transparent container allows you to easily assess which seeds have already sprouted and which have not yet.

However, the method also has certain disadvantages:

  1. Seedlings do not have a lot of space. Due to the high density of sprouts, natural lighting is reduced. As a result, they develop rather slowly. To get seedlings in time for the beginning of the season, they need to be planted in advance.
  2. When using this technique, tomatoes have a fairly powerful stem. However, the same cannot be said about the roots. Therefore, when planting crops in open soil, attention should be paid to strengthening them.

Advantages and disadvantages of the method

Galina Aleksandrovna Kizima’s method of planting tomatoes has its strengths and weaknesses. To understand whether this method of growing seedlings is right for you, you need to study the pros and cons of this technology.

Advantages

  1. A huge number of sprouts fit on one windowsill, which significantly saves space.
  2. Low consumption of nutrient soil. Planting 50 sprouts requires only 2 kg of soil.
  3. It is easy to transplant seedlings. It is enough to simply unwrap the “diaper” and plant the tomato with a lump of earth in a new place.
  4. Plants get sick less often, especially with black leg, which occurs due to excess moisture.
  5. The film can be used for several years in a row. All you have to do is unwrap it, wash it and put it in a box. It will take up very little space.

Flaws

  • Large crowding of seedlings slows down the growth of tomato bushes.
  • Tomatoes shade each other and do not receive enough sunlight, so they have long and thin stems.
  • Due to the small earthen lump, the root is weaker than that of tomatoes grown using conventional technology.

How to grow?

You need to sow the seeds 55-60 days before transplanting tomatoes into open ground. According to Galina Kizima's method, seedlings can be obtained from sprouted and unsprouted seeds.

With sprouted seeds

This method is used most often. To do this, you should prepare planting material. First, the seeds are calibrated and disinfected. After this, they should be soaked in stimulating solutions. For this you should use phytosporin, epin. Then they need to be left for 2-3 days.

To awaken the seeds, you need to wrap them in a napkin, first moistening it with warm water. After 2-3 days they will hatch. When the first shoots appear, you can begin to implement Galina Kizima’s technique.

To do this you need to do the following:

  1. Cut the thick film 10 cm wide and lay it on a flat surface.
  2. Pour a 5 cm thick layer of earth onto the resulting strips.
  3. Moisten well with the stimulating solution. To do this, use sprayers.
  4. Place the seeds on the tape, maintaining an interval of 3 cm from the top. The gap between the grains should be 5 cm.
  5. Roll the film into a roll. Secure the edges with rubber bands, put on the bag and place it in the tray. This must be done vertically.
  6. All rolls must be located tightly to each other. This will help prevent them from falling.
  7. Place the seeds in a warm place - this can be done near the radiator.
  8. When the tomatoes hatch, remove the bags and place the container under a fluorescent lamp.

With unsprouted seeds

In such a situation, you should do the following:

  1. Cut the polyethylene. The result should be strips 10 cm wide.
  2. Place them on the table and sprinkle the soil evenly. It must be well moistened with water with the addition of a growth stimulator.
  3. Sow tomato seeds along the strip, maintaining a distance of 4 cm.
  4. Wrap the film into a roll and secure with an elastic band.
  5. Place a plastic bag on top. Place the resulting structure in a box, which is placed in a warm place.

When the first shoots appear from the rolls, you need to remove the bags. The box should be placed in a sunny place. Artificial lighting can be used for this purpose.

Substrate based

In such a situation, toilet paper is used. This material perfectly absorbs moisture and releases it easily. Thanks to this, it is possible to obtain a strong and viable plant.

To plant seedlings, you will need the following materials:

  • rubber;
  • dense film - a substrate under the laminate is also perfect;
  • toilet paper;
  • germinated planting material.

To plant seeds, you should follow these steps:

  1. Cut the films into strips. Their width should be 10 cm.
  2. Place the strips on the table. Then lay the paper in 3 layers and moisten it well with water. It is best to use a growth stimulator solution.
  3. Tomato seeds need to be placed on film, keeping an interval of 4 cm. Then they need to be covered with damp toilet paper. In this case, additionally, the planting material should be soaked in a nutrient liquid.
  4. At the final stage you need to form rolls. It is important to ensure that the seeds do not move. To secure the package, use rubber bands.

Put bags on the resulting structure and put the rolls in a box. It needs to be placed in a dark and warm place. It is best to place the container near the battery. When the seeds germinate, the bags should be removed and the tomatoes should be moved to a bright place.

Planting tomatoes using Galina Kizima's method: an example of diaper technology for smart lazy people

Growing a sufficient number of seedlings by the beginning of the dacha season is not an easy task in a city apartment. Plants need light, and narrow window sills can only accommodate so many seedling pots.

Planting tomatoes according to the method of Galina Kizima, candidate of mathematical sciences, author of numerous books on vegetable growing, allows you to obtain a large number of tomato sprouts in limited space using the avant-garde technology of cultivating seedlings in diapers.

After care

When sprouts appear, you need to take care of strengthening the seedlings. Plants should be immediately fed with a weak fertilizer solution. To do this, take 1 small spoon of the product per 3 liters of water.

It is not recommended to use nitrogen for this crop, as it will stretch the seedlings. Fertilizer should include potassium and phosphorus.

Fertilizing with mineral complexes should be alternated with ecofus solution. This is a unique fertilizer made from algae. It is important that the seedlings are illuminated for at least 12 hours. If necessary, you can additionally use special lamps.

Possible mistakes

A typical mistake when growing tomatoes is overwatering the seedlings. This leads to disruption of the formation of the root system. She experiences a lack of oxygen and does not go deeper.

Another common violation is the incorrect choice of crop variety. Hybrids are suitable for a city apartment. Determinate varieties can also be used. Seeds should be planted no earlier than mid-March. Seedlings can remain in the film for no more than 45 days.

It is worth considering that Galina Kizima’s technique should not be used for indeterminate varieties. During growth, the formation of brushes in such plants is disrupted and branches into 2-3 shoots appear.

Growing seedlings using Galina Kizima’s method has many advantages. At the same time, it is very important to carefully study the advice of experienced gardeners and adhere to the rules of the procedure. This will help to obtain strong and viable seedlings.

Galina Kizima method

Galina Kizima’s methodology is based on the rules of organic gardening, which she gradually came to over 52 years of her “dacha” experience. Like many of us, she devoted all her weekends and vacations to working in the garden; hard work in the garden beds did not allow her to rest at all. Galina Kizima began to look for ways to reduce labor-intensive manipulations without harming the yield.

The principles of agricultural technology and gardening that she developed sometimes completely contradict the conservative and familiar methods of farming. According to Kizima, most manipulations are completely unnecessary and even harm the condition of the soil. By refusing to dig, organizing a moisture conservation system and thereby reducing the frequency and volume of watering, you will be able to relax more at the dacha, devote your free time to family or gardening experiments.

Growing tomato seedlings in diapers

Every year, when starting to grow seedlings, gardeners are upset that there is not enough space on the windowsills. Pots take up a lot of space. And I want to plant so much! Today, this problem can be easily solved, thanks to new methods of growing tomato seedlings in a snail and a diaper. Comfortable, spacious, easy!

By growing tomato seedlings using similar methods, you save not only useful space, but also money. There is no need to purchase large amounts of soil or prepare containers and other containers for growing tomato seedlings. One snail places several plants in its coil. It is especially convenient to grow plant seedlings with small seeds using the snail method.

"Diaper" technology of Galina Kizima

According to the agricultural method of amateur vegetable grower Galina Aleksandrovna Kizima, tomato sprouts are grown in “diapers”. Conventional seedling boxes are replaced with non-woven material (most often ordinary film), wrapping soil with seeds in it. The resulting bags retain moisture well and take up little space on the windowsill. In addition to the ergonomic arrangement, there is another goal.

Tomato roots should grow deep and not spread in the upper soil layers. This allows plants to obtain water and nutrients for themselves, and not depend on anyone, by analogy with wild herbs that obtain their own food. No one is helping them survive.

Advantages of a snail made from a substrate

It is not known for certain who was the first to grow tomato seedlings from seeds in a snail. It’s just that each gardener contributed something of his own, interesting, and as a result the method was made public for wide use. Today it is popular throughout Russia. Most often, when growing seedlings, a laminate is used as a substrate.

Why choose:

  1. Making a snail is not difficult; any available materials will do. If desired, you can purchase ready-made snail elements.
  2. The space savings are real.
  3. During picking, the roots are not damaged, the survival rate is high.
  4. Interesting! You can grow tomato seedlings with or without soil.

Step-by-step making of a snail with soil

Gardeners have already tried the innovation, although there are no concrete results or conclusions yet: the method is being tested. To make a snail, you need to prepare:

  • substrate;
  • soil or toilet paper;
  • a transparent container, ice cream or mayonnaise buckets will do;
  • rubber bands used to tie money;
  • plastic bag.

The substrate is laid out on the work table. Cut a strip of the required length - no more than 15 cm. The width should be equal to the size of the paper. Moistened soil is poured onto the tape in a thin layer. There is no need to fill the entire length of the substrate, so as not to complicate the rolling later on.

The soil is irrigated with a spray bottle and compacted a little. Turning the top of the substrate towards you, lay out the tomato seeds. You need to step back 2 cm from the edge. The step between the seeds is 2-3 cm. You can work with your fingers or tweezers, as you prefer. As we progress, we add and moisten the soil, continuing to lay the seeds.

When the surface is full, we begin to roll, but not tightly, so that there is space between the layers. The result is a figure resembling a snail in shape. Hence the name. Don't be upset if some of the soil spills out from below. After completing the folding, soil will still have to be added. To prevent the snail from falling apart, secure it with a money rubber band.

After this, install the “nursery” in a transparent container. Water is poured to the bottom, and soil is added to the snail itself, which needs to be shed thoroughly, being careful. It is convenient to insert a sticker with the name of the variety under the elastic band. A plastic bag is pulled over the top and secured.

Main principles of the technique

Galina Kizima based her technique on naturalness. In natural conditions - in a forest or in a field - there is no area on the earth that is not occupied by plants. They coexist well together, do not require fertilization, additional watering or digging up the soil, and at the same time they develop well and produce a harvest.

In garden plots, the opposite picture is observed: the more a person works and puts in effort, the worse the result. Galina Kizima turned to organic principles of cultivation and developed her own methodology, which is based on the desire to abandon unnecessary and harmful work in the garden.

Digging

The first postulate of the technique is not to dig. Autumn and spring digging of the garden greatly damages the soil, so Galina Kizima urges gardeners to give up shovels and pitchforks. There are several good reasons for this:

  1. High-quality soil has its own structure: aerobic microorganisms live in it at a depth of up to 20 cm, anaerobic microorganisms live in it from 20 to 40 cm. These bacteria, in the course of their life activity, make the earth fertile due to the active fermentation of organic matter and the breakdown of mineral elements. During standard digging, these living layers change places, and microorganisms die in unfavorable conditions for them.
  2. In the field and in the forest, the earth is always a little springy, it is soft and lush; in the garden, after watering and rain, we are forced to loosen the beds in order to knock off the specific crust. Under natural conditions, there are microchannels in the soil formed by a wide network of dead plant roots processed by bacteria; with their help, the soil breathes and is quickly saturated with rainwater. When digging up the garden, we destroy these passages, and the dense soil does not allow the roots of the cultivated crops to breathe and feed.
  3. When digging in autumn and spring, we constantly select the roots of weeds, but the weeds still grow before the cultivated crops. This happens because we ourselves bury their seeds before winter, and before planting we turn them over again closer to the surface.

Digging dries out and deadens the soil. Even black soil brought to the site loses its fertility after a few years and turns into a kind of sand, deprived of important bacteria. To save your land, you cannot dig it. To prepare the beds shallowly - up to 5 cm - loosen the soil with any tool convenient for you - a hoe, a rake or a pitchfork.

After finishing the sowing work in the garden, there is no time to relax - weed sprouts are already appearing in the beds, which must be mercilessly fought all summer so that they do not take away nutrition from the planted crops. Galina Kizima has found an effective and minimal effort way to combat them. There is no need to weed the weeds - they need to be cut off in time at the root or with a slight depth of 2-3 cm using special tools.

Weeds need to be cut when they reach a height of 5-10 cm. Constant removal of the green part will lead to suppression of the root system, which is difficult to do without the important chlorophyll. The cut weeds are left directly on the garden bed - they will serve as natural mulch and organic fertilizer.

During the season you will need to make only 3-4 cuttings, this will be enough for the weeds to die. These manipulations are less labor-intensive than traditional weeding, and the efficiency is much higher. The green part of the weeds serves as mulch, protecting the soil from drying out, and also plays the role of a constant compost fertilizer. Dead roots will serve as food for bacteria, which will increase soil fertility.

Growing in a snail without soil

To obtain tomato seedlings, soil is not always added to the snail. To make a snail you will need the same materials. One difference is that the soil is not added.

  1. First, prepare a tape from the backing and toilet paper. The length will be greater than when planting with soil.
  2. The paper is well moistened with warm water and hydrogen peroxide. You can use the one in which the eggs were boiled. This is a natural biostimulant. Then the tomato seeds are laid out at a distance from the edge. The step between each seed is at least three centimeters. If seeds of different varieties are sown, they are separated with toothpicks.

You need to twist it carefully and not too tightly. An elastic band for money is used as fastening. Place the snail in the jar and add about 1-2 cm of water so that the toilet paper is always wet. On top is a transparent bag. Cultivation continues in a sunny window. This method requires adding fertilizer to the water.

What you will need for the procedure

Planting seedlings using the Kizima method does not require many devices. First of all, you should buy thick plastic film. It is cut into even squares 20 x 20 cm wide. A soil mixture is used for planting. You can prepare it yourself or buy it in a store. Take bank rubber bands and sprouted seeds.

To increase the percentage of germination, tomatoes are germinated before planting. To do this, gauze is moistened with water, seeds are placed in it and covered with the second part of the gauze. Place the package in a warm place for 2-3 days. After this period, the planting material will germinate and can be planted in the soil.

Why is snail sowing popular?

This is not the first time that many gardeners have used snails to produce seedlings of not only tomatoes, but also other vegetable crops. In addition to saving window sill space, such a container can be easily transported to the dacha for planting seedlings in a permanent place.

There are clear advantages of the method:

  1. Lighting is distributed evenly between each plant. After all, a snail is easier to unfold than a large box.
  2. There is no need to prepare a large amount of soil in the fall at your summer cottage. But here a serious problem arises: there is nowhere to store it in the city. Ready-made soil composition is not that cheap.
  3. Cellophane substrates can be reused many times; you just need to wash them in soapy water, disinfect them, and dry them.
  4. The root system develops well in the snail; it is more convenient to plant seedlings, since there is practically no damage to the roots.

The only note: you should not rush into picking. You need to wait until the roots gain strength and a sufficient number of leaves appear. They continue to grow tomato seedlings using diapers. Already interested?

Methods for “diaper” growing seeds

So, the tomato seedlings are ready: with the snail method of growing tomatoes from seeds, the root system is strong and there are enough leaves. All that remains is to choose which containers to transplant the grown plants into:

  1. Traditionally: cups, milk and ice cream containers, bags.
  2. In a new way - in diapers.

The traditional method of growing tomato seedlings will hardly surprise anyone. But swaddling is not entirely familiar to the ear. It turns out that you can swaddle not only small children, but also some vegetable plants. Let's try to figure it out.

With this method of growing tomato seedlings, the diaper will be the usual thick film that covers greenhouses. You can take pieces of already used covering material: this will not play a special role. It needs to be cut in a certain way: we trace the notebook sheet - the diaper is ready.

  1. Sprinkle spoonfuls of two moist soil onto one diaper rectangle (upper left corner). Carefully unwrap the snail. If the seedlings grew with soil, separate one plant and transfer it to a new container. If the seedlings have grown without soil, cut off a piece of paper, trying not to damage the clearly visible roots. Planting with paper. Sprinkle soil on top of the plant again. When laid, the cotyledons should be slightly above the edge of the diaper.

  2. It is not difficult for women to cope with wrapping seedlings. The picture shows that the swaddling process is no different from how a baby is wrapped. Fold from below and twist along the entire length of the film. For fixation, we use two rubber bands. Do not forget to add soil at the same level as the edge of the film, and pour plenty of water at room temperature.
  3. To avoid confusion when replanting, the name of the variety can be glued directly to the diaper.

You can dive into paper diapers. Details in the video:

Picking seedlings

When picking a tomato, you should never cut off the root. The method is based precisely on the fact that the root must grow deeper. The procedure is carried out when 2-3 true leaves appear on the plant.

Water the envelope with the sprout well, then unfold it and add another 1 tbsp to the existing soil. l. soil so that the stem is in the soil up to the cotyledon leaves, and the real leaves are above the film.

In the phase of 5-6 true leaves, the “diaper” is opened again, another 1 tbsp is added. l. soil down under the roots, roll it up again and put it in place.

In the video, vegetable grower Galiza Kizima shows her greenhouses with tomatoes and shares tips on growing the crop.

Pour another 1 spoon of soil on top and wrap the “diaper”. Place all the bags in a tray, preferably the same height as the bags, tightly to each other. With this picking, seedlings require little space and little soil. When 4-5 true sheets appear, unfold the films, add a spoonful of soil and wrap.

Let's sum it up

Our grandmothers tried to use film or newsprint and sewed cups for transplanting tomatoes from these materials. But they were bulky. Snail and diaper methods of growing tomatoes are economical in this regard. After all, they save useful window area for placing other plantings. Moreover, gardeners save money on purchasing containers for transplanting seedlings and a large amount of land.

Snail or diaper methods of growing seedlings, relatively young ones. Plant lovers are still adjusting to them. But we can say with confidence that the methods will take root. The most important thing is that planting seedlings from snails and diapers is easy.

Features of picking in diapers, advantages of the method

Vegetable growers call diapers the soil wrapped in a bag of plastic film, where tomato seedlings are planted. Usually they take dense material, which is used to cover greenhouses. Before the diving procedure, prepare a container for placing tomato seedlings in diapers into it. Choose a large container with high sides. The bottom is covered with a layer of sawdust so that tomato seedlings in diapers can be placed on it.

The advantages of this method of picking a vegetable plant include:

  • convenience of the procedure;
  • using less soil;
  • protection of tomato seedlings from diseases and pests;
  • saving space for seedlings.

But besides the advantages of growing tomatoes using the diaper method, there is also a significant drawback due to the fact that the plant’s root system will develop more slowly and the seedlings will not have enough light. And also, if the vegetable crop grows intensively, it will then have to be replanted into individual pots.

Swaddling tomato seedlings occurs in different ways. You can plant seedlings with two true leaves in a nutritious soil mixture or coconut substrate. You can also pack seeds for seedlings in film and then plant the seedlings in separate cups or pots.

Sprouted seeds in films

In order for tomato seedlings to be strong, seeds that were first germinated are placed in a diaper. Rectangles similar in size to the area of a notebook sheet are cut out of the film. Having laid out a sheet of film on the table, place a spoonful of nutrient soil, previously moistened, in the left corner. A sprout obtained from tomato seeds is placed on it.

The leaves of the plant should be above the level of the edge of the diaper.

After this, add the same amount of soil as was on the leaf. They begin to roll it carefully, holding the tender sprout. To prevent the roll from unrolling, tighten it with an elastic band or tie it with thread. The seedling wrapped in polyethylene is placed in a container.

After picking the seedlings has been successful, the container with the sprouts installed in it is placed in a well-lit place. To create a greenhouse effect, cover the plantings with a film with holes. Every day, for a few minutes, the covering material is removed to ventilate the seedlings.

Using sprouted seeds

This method is used for sowing tomato seeds. In this case, the seed material is prepared in the usual manner. Before sowing, you need to carry out manipulations in this order:

  • calibrate;
  • disinfected with a special agent;
  • soaked in a growth stimulator;
  • leave for 3 days for awakening.

The last stage involves immersing the seedling grains in a napkin, which is pre-moistened with warm water. They are placed under a bag for 3 days. When the first loops appear from the seeds, you can start planting them. So, how to grow tomato seedlings:

  • even squares with a side of 20 cm made of thick film;
  • soil that you prepare yourself or purchase in a store;
  • rubber;
  • seedling.

The process of planting seeds is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Soil in the required quantity is laid out on the corner of the prepared film. The grown tomato seedlings are carefully immersed in it. In this case, the cotyledon leaves should be located above the edge of the film. The root is completely covered with soil.
  2. The film is folded in the center and rolled into a roll. To maintain its shape, it is fixed with a rubber band.
  3. All prepared packages are placed in a pallet. It is placed in a well-lit place.

In order not to forget about the planting date, appropriate marks are made on the film with a marker.

In diapers from seeds to shoots

Growing tomato seedlings begins with planting seeds. So you can plant them immediately in film. Step-by-step actions consist of:

  • cutting polyethylene into strips ten centimeters wide;
  • laying a layer of toilet paper on it;
  • moistening from a spray bottle with water mixed with drops of aloe juice;
  • placement of seeds at intervals of three to four centimeters;
  • covering with a layer of toilet paper and film;
  • Roll it up and place it in a plastic cup filled with water.

Cover the top of the container with film and place it in a warm, well-lit place. After the sown grain sprouts, they are released from the film. Together with toilet paper, each one is separated and planted in nutritious soil. At the same time, the seedlings take root easily, since the root system remains intact and intact. If you sow tomatoes immediately in diapers, they will develop faster, ahead of regular seedlings by one to two weeks.

It is better, when planting tomatoes with seeds, to immediately add moistened soil or coconut substrate to the rolls. Then the seedlings will feel great before transplanting into separate pots or open ground. A plant picked in this way has a strong and tenacious root system.

Planting tomatoes from diapers into open ground

The day before planting seedlings, water the soil well with Fitosporin plus Gumi (to disinfect the soil from pathogens of fungal and bacterial diseases, including late blight, and at the same time add organic nutrition).

Make holes of such depth that the roll will fall into it with a margin, according to a pattern of approximately 30x30cm. If you have an old feather pillow, then add about 2-3 cm of feathers (can be replaced with dry hay). Then add a tablespoon of superphosphate (can be replaced with two tablespoons of ash), half a teaspoon of the powdered fraction of ABA fertilizer (if not, then a teaspoon of ash). Gradually pour five liters of warm water into each well for tall tomatoes or three for short ones. I was not mistaken, exactly at least 5 liters!

When the water is absorbed into the soil, remove the rubber bands, place the rolls in the holes and pull out the diapers. Add soil around the seedling and immediately mulch the soil! As mulch, you can take grass clipped from lawns, sand, peat, or black and white newspapers. This will not allow the moisture to evaporate and it will go down, followed by the roots.

Before transplanting seedlings into place, I do not harden them, but as soon as I plant them, I immediately spray the leaves with a wonderful cocktail. For 1 liter of water you need to take 2 grains of Healthy Garden, 2 grains of Ecoberin (can be replaced with 2 drops of Epin-extra), 2 drops of Zircon, 4 drops of Uniflora-bud (can be replaced with Narcissus). This spraying should be repeated monthly.

As soil for growing tomato seedlings, Galina Kizima uses briquettes of coconut substrate mixed with sand (1 kg of sand per briquette). Coconut flakes are soaked in boiling water, and when they swell, they are mixed with sand.

If coconut is not available, she recommends using peat obtained from raised bogs. For a 5-7 kg bag, add 3 kg of sand and a liter jar of ash to deoxidize the peat. These mixtures are sterile and free from pests and pathogens.

Place 5 kg of compost at the bottom, a glass of ash, and at the end a teaspoon of potassium permanganate (can be replaced with a tablespoon of concentrated superphosphate fertilizer). Mix the components thoroughly and pour 1-2 buckets of water into the hole. After some time, the water will be absorbed, after which you should start planting tomatoes.

The root system of tomatoes grown in film is not strong enough, so the plants are planted vertically into the hole with extreme caution. There should be at least half of the plant in the soil (but no more than 5 centimeters). The roots are carefully covered with soil and the soil is compacted. The upper part of the plant is tied to a peg.

Seedlings can be planted in a greenhouse. In this case, it should be provided with drip irrigation. To do this, plastic bottles filled with water with pierced holes are placed between the plants.

As soil for growing tomato seedlings, Galina Kizima uses briquettes of coconut substrate mixed with sand (1 kg of sand per briquette). Coconut flakes are soaked in boiling water, and when they swell, they are mixed with sand.

Caring for seedlings in diapers

After the tomato picking has occurred, it is necessary to properly care for the vegetable seedlings:

  1. Water the tomato seedlings in diapers moderately, so that the water does not stagnate in the rolls.
  2. Twice a week it is necessary to feed tomato seedlings, reducing the usual concentration of the nutrient solution by half.
  3. To ensure an optimal level of light, additional illumination of the seedlings is organized using fluorescent lamps.
  4. To prevent the soil in the diapers from becoming moldy, regularly remove condensation from the film.

Repeated plant picking is carried out after the seedlings have run out of space and begin to stretch out. The roll is rolled out carefully, and the grown seedlings are separated from the film, planted in separate containers. At the same time, to stimulate root growth, the central root shoot is pinched. But if the plant lives in arid areas, then the root pinching operation is not carried out.

Feeding seedlings

Seedlings should be fed at least three times:

  • the first - 10 days after picking with diluted mullein at the rate of a liter of manure per bucket of water. After settling, the liquid is drained and the seedlings are watered using a watering can with a long narrow spout;
  • the second - after the same period of time, but ready-made nitrogen-phosphorus liquid fertilizers are used;
  • the third - after 7-10 days with a solution of mullein; crushed wood ash is used to mulch the soil.

From the moment of germination to planting seedlings in the ground using this method, no more than 45 days should pass.
