Step-by-step diagram of planting strawberries on black covering material and growing rules

How to properly plant strawberries on black covering material, planting technology

To ensure that you get the desired strawberry harvest using this planting method, you must follow certain rules.

How to prepare a place for planting strawberries under black covering material

Site preparation is the most important stage. This is done once every four years. Work should begin in advance. If you plan to plant in the spring, then the development of the ridges should be done in the fall. In the spring, prepare beds for fall or summer planting of strawberries.

The work must be performed in the following order:

  • clear the bed of weeds and debris;
  • apply fertilizer: per square meter. meter you will need one glass of ash, 40 grams of potash fertilizers, 80 grams of phosphorus fertilizers;
  • Dig up the bed to the depth of a spade;
  • Carefully level the top layer of soil.

How to lay agrofibre

Spread spunbond on a flat surface of the bed. If one piece of covering material is not enough, you can overlap them. The width of the overlap should be 20 cm. Temporarily place heavy objects along the edge of the material: stones, bricks and secure the agrofibre to the bed. This is done using special staples. They are sold in specialized stores. The design of the brackets is simple. Making them yourself is not difficult. Cut the wire into 70 cm pieces. Bend as shown in the photo:

How to choose film for strawberries

Plastic film is suitable for covering strawberries. It does not allow water and air to pass through. The film on which you can grow berries comes in several types, all of them differ from each other in color and service life. The minimum term for using covering material is 2-3 years.

Films come in different colors, but it is better to use dark ones - the berries ripen faster on them. More expensive materials already have round holes for seedlings. The width of the film is selected depending on the size of the bed; the thickness should be 40 microns.

In addition to film, you can buy agrofibre. This material is more expensive, its service life is 3-4 years. Agrofibre comes in white and black. The white spreads over the strawberries. This material protects plants from frost, heavy rain, hail and wind. Black agrofibre spreads onto the soil. This material prevents the growth of weeds and warms the soil well, but allows air and moisture to pass through. Its density should be 50-60 grams per square meter.

Care and cultivation of strawberries under black covering material after planting

Care in this case is similar to the usual method. The difference is that doing this is much easier.

When watering with a hose, it is preferable to use nozzles so as not to expose the roots of the plant, or use drip watering. It is better to use settled water for irrigation.

In the first ten days, you will have to water the strawberries several times a week to prevent the soil from drying out. Subsequently, watering is reduced to once every 5-7 days. On average, a bucket of water is required per square meter.
