The Supermodel tomato is medium-early in terms of ripening; 100-120 days pass from planting seeds to the appearance of the first ripe fruits.
This variety is a determinate standard plant, grows as a small compact bush 60-80 cm in size. The leaves of the plant are usually dark green in color and small in size. Perfect for growing in open ground. The Supermodel tomato is one of the best new low-growing tomato varieties . The plant is unpretentious and has good tolerance to diseases such as brown spot and fruit cracking.

The fruits of this tomato are beautiful, with an elegant elongated shape, which is why they got their interesting name. Unripe fruits are light green in color, while ripe ones become dark red and oblong. The density of the pulp is average, the number of chambers is 2-3, the dry matter content is 5-6%. The weight of the fruit is small, approximately 100-120 grams, the taste is no different .

Reviews:

Anton Sergeevich, pensioner:

I would like to get a harvest with less labor. We planted only 5 Supermodel bushes. And then they realized that they didn’t take enough. We'll jail the supermodel for next season.

I bought this variety of tomatoes two years ago. I sowed them at home, but the seedlings turned out small and bad, although they grew with other tomatoes, and they all grew up well. But this spring I sowed them again and decided to try growing them again. And I was not mistaken this time.

The tomatoes grew very beautiful and tasty.

This variety turned out to be late. The tomatoes only started to ripen at the end of August, fortunately the weather here was not too bad, it was very warm, so they had time to turn red on the bush.

I read a lot about these tomatoes on the Internet. Many different and contradictory reviews are written about these tomatoes. But I really liked them.

The fruits are elongated, with a sharp nose, pinkish-red in color, their taste is very delicate, with a slight sourness. But I liked it. This taste is very pleasant; the skin of these tomatoes is very tender and thin.

Although I can’t say anything good about the yield. I sown 4 seeds, all four sprouted and grew this year. Somehow I managed to save them; the tomato bushes were strong and good. But the harvest from these four bushes did not make me happy. We only collected one and a half buckets.

Gardeners looking for a suitable tomato variety will certainly be interested in the “Supermodel” variety. The characteristic features of the tomato include good immunity and the original shape of the fruit, thanks to which the variety got its name. Among the advantages, excellent taste is also noted.

Characteristics

This variety belongs to the Altai selection and was bred in 2012 at the same time and received its registration number. The Supermodel tomato variety was bred in Altai and is well suited for cultivation both in central Russia and in the southern regions, the main condition being a sufficient amount of sunlight. The optimal regions for cultivation are considered to be the Altai Territory, Tatarstan, the Volga region, Crimea and the Caucasus. Not recommended for areas of Siberia and the Far East.

This variety is absolutely universal; it is very good to use fresh in salads and first courses . Also, its graceful elongated fruits are perfect for pickling and dried. Many housewives process ripe fruits into juice and tomato paste. Thanks to the balanced content of sugars and acids, “Supermodel” is rightfully one of the most delicious low-growing varieties.

The yield of this type of tomato is not too high, with good care it is 7-8 kg per 1 sq.m. With poor care and watering, the yield is reduced to 4-5 kg, and the number of ripe fruits depends on the growing region.

You can see the yields of other varieties in the table below:

Sowing time

Supermodel tomatoes are early tomatoes, so they can be sown at several times, including late sowing, and get well-formed, ripened fruits of milky-waxy maturity. Approximate timing of sowing tomato seeds Supermodel:

  • in boxes for seedlings - from February 25 to March 10;
  • early in the soil under the film - from April 10 to April 30;
  • late into the soil - from May 1 to May 5.

Growing tomatoes through seedlings involves planting them at the age of 60-65 days in open ground around May 10-25. The first fruits can be obtained already in early July. Non-seedling culture involves sowing seeds into the ground at different times. With early sowing, the beginning of fruiting occurs in the first ten days of August, and with late sowing - in the third ten days. It is important to remember that seedless culture must be intensive so that the formation of the crop does not take too long. This means that the plants need good care:

  • watering 1-2 times a week;
  • fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers every two weeks;
  • regular weeding;
  • removal of extra stepsons.

All efforts will more than pay off with a large number of firm, elongated tomatoes, which is the right time to prepare for the future for the winter at the end of summer.

Diseases and pests

This variety has excellent immunity, but can still be susceptible to diseases such as phomosis. To get rid of this disease, it is necessary to promptly remove the affected fruits, and the branches and leaves must be treated with the drug “Hom”.

They also reduce the amount of fertilizers containing nitrogen and reduce watering. Dry spotting is another unpleasant phenomenon that can affect this tomato variety. The drugs Antrakol, Consento and Tattu are usually used against it.

Chemical preparations will help in the fight against Colorado potato beetles: Aktara, Corado, Regent, Commander, Prestige, Lightning, Tanrek, Apache, Taboo

As can be seen from the description, it is not for nothing that the Supermodel variety has earned the respect and love of both amateur gardeners and farmers throughout Russia.

Bush care

Grow like most tomatoes. Seeds for seedlings are sown 55-60 days before planting in open ground. There are no more than 3-4 plants per 1 m2 of beds.

To get a full harvest, Supermodel tomatoes need a sufficient amount of sunlight!

Bushes that have taken root outdoors are undemanding in care and resistant to brown spot and fruit cracking. They are immune to many diseases, but can be affected by tomato blight.

If diseased fruits appear, you need to remove them immediately and spray the plants with Hom.

“Supermodel” is propagated by seedlings.

Description:

  1. To prevent the occurrence of diseases, seed material is treated in a manganese solution for 20 minutes;
  2. To make the seeds germinate faster, they are soaked in a growth stimulator.

Description:

  • Sow two months before the intended transplant to a permanent place;
  • Seeds are sown in a moist, slightly compacted substrate, at intervals of 3-4 cm, carefully pressing into the soil. Sprinkle soil on top;
  • Before sprouts appear, a temperature regime of at least 25 degrees is required, after which it is reduced to 20... 22 degrees;
  • In the phase of 3 well-developed leaves, seedlings are picked in separate cups.

Description:

  • Replanting to a permanent location begins after the end of night frosts;

By this time, the seedlings will have grown to 30 cm and will have 6-8 full leaves.

  • It is advisable to grow tomatoes in a well-lit and protected from the winds bed. Loamy and sandy loam soils, with neutral acidity and rich in humus, are excellent;
  • Planting is carried out in a checkerboard pattern or in rows. The distance between planting holes is maintained at least 50 cm, the width between rows should be 50 cm. To avoid crowded plantings, 3 to 4 tomato seedlings are placed per 1 m2.

The Supermodel tomato does not require complex and time-consuming care:

  • Due to its short stature, tomatoes are not planted;
  • However, the branches must be provided with slight support;
  • Watering is carried out once a week, exclusively under the bush. The soil should be saturated with moisture to a depth of 30 to 40 cm;
  • The soil near the tomato bush needs regular loosening;
  • To reduce the amount of watering, the soil is mulched with straw or grass clippings. This will also avoid loosening and weeding, since the mulch layer prevents the growth of weeds;
  • The highest yield can be achieved by forming a bush with two or three stems;
  • Feeding is no less important. The first feeding is carried out two weeks after transplantation to a permanent place, applying fertilizers based on phosphorus and potassium. The second feeding is carried out 3-4 weeks after the first, fertilizing with aggregate fertilizers (“Nitrophoska”, etc.). The last feeding is carried out after another 30 days, adding fertilizers enriched with nitrogen and potassium. It is advisable to apply fertilizers after the irrigation procedure. As soon as the fertilizers are applied, re-watering is carried out.

The most common diseases and pests:

  • The “Supermodel” tomato variety has excellent immunity to most diseases, but is susceptible to Phoma;

When the first signs of the disease are detected, immediately remove all affected fruits and treat the branches and foliage with the preparation “Hom”.

  • The variety is also not resistant to dry spotting. They fight the disease with the help of drugs “Antrakol”, “Cosento” and “Tattu”;
  • The use of chemicals is effective against the Colorado potato beetle: “Aktara”, “Corado”, “Regent”, “Commander”, “Prestige”, “Molniya”, “Tanrek”, “Apache”, “Taboo”.

Requirements:

  • the soil should be sandy and loamy;
  • the soil is enriched with humus;
  • earth – neutral;
  • wind protection is required;
  • when planting, the soil should be well heated;
  • air humidity should not exceed 60%;
  • temperature range – from 20 to 25 degrees.

Time for sowing:

  • for seedlings in containers - February 26 - March 10;
  • when sowing in the ground, but under film - April 11 - May 1;
  • for late planting in the garden - May 1-5.

These dates are indicated for seedless planting, that is, sowing seeds. With early planting, the harvest can be harvested in the first half of August, with late planting - at the end of the same month.

Preparation of seed material begins approximately 2 months before transferring the bushes to open ground. Seeds require special processing, which eliminates the incidence of disease. To do this, they are placed in a manganese solution for 15-20 minutes. Next, to plant tomatoes for seedlings, you need to adhere to the following rules:

  • the soil should be moist and slightly compacted;
  • distance between seed material – maximum 4 cm;
  • Each seed must be carefully pressed;
  • the temperature before the formation of sprouts should not be lower than 25 degrees;
  • after emergence of seedlings, the temperature decreases (20-22 degrees);
  • Picking seedlings into separate containers is carried out after 3 leaves are formed on the bush.

Seedlings are transplanted only when there is no risk of frost, since the plant is considered heat-loving. Rules:

  • The seedlings should have a height of 28-30 cm and be up to 60 days old.
  • The number of formed leaves is from 6 to 8.
  • The leaf part should be saturated with a green tint. There should be no stains, damage or wrinkles on it and the stems.
  • Before transplanting, the roots are carefully inspected (deformations are excluded).
  • Planting in the ground is carried out in rows or in a checkerboard pattern.
  • The holes are dug at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other.
  • Inter-row width – 50 cm.

In greenhouse conditions, frequent ventilation is required, but so that the plants do not get blown, since they do not like wind. Optimal temperature and humidity levels must be maintained.

On open ground in dry, hot weather, the Supermodel must be moisturized every day. If the summer is excessively rainy, then to eliminate the risk of disease, it is necessary to make grooves from each hole that will drain water.

Watering rules:

  • watering is carried out between the rows under the horse system;
  • moistening should be carried out to a depth of 35-40 cm.

If the rows next to the tomatoes are mulched, then loosening may not be necessary. It is enough to pull through the weeds. Irrigation features change - since the soil will not crack, less water will be needed.

Feeding:

  1. The first time feeding seedlings is done a couple of weeks after transplanting to a permanent place. Feeding with potassium and phosphorus is used.
  2. Secondary feeding is carried out after a month. Complex fertilizers are applied. For example, Nitrophoska and the like.
  3. Next time (in another month) you need to add potassium and nitrogen.

Control of pests and diseases that are dangerous for the Supermodel:

  • Fomoz disease. Treatment is carried out using Hom. Along with this, it is important to remove and destroy affected tomatoes. And also reduce the amount of watering and application of nitrogen fertilizers.
  • For dry spotting, Tattoo, Consento, Antrakol are used.
  • The variety is actively attacked by Colorado potato beetles. Prestige, Apache, Aktara, Taboo, Regent, Corado, Lightning, Commander are used against them.

It is important to carry out preventive measures, including the following:

  • compliance with crop rotation and irrigation regime requirements;
  • weed removal;
  • trimming the lower leaves;
  • lack of thickening during planting;
  • timely loosening and fertilization;
  • treatment of seedlings before transplantation with Bordeaux solution;
  • adding copper oxychloride;
  • adding ash to the soil.

What to do if frosts are about to hit, and the bush is full of unripe tomatoes

The Supermodel tomato variety has sufficient fruit density for long-term storage and ripening, so the situation when in late autumn there are a lot of fruits on the bush that are in milky-waxy ripeness is not critical for this variety.

If there are not very many fruits, they can be collected from the bush and placed in a box in one or two layers, then put into a room for ripening. If there are a lot of fruits, then in the garden or at your summer cottage you can arrange a pile - this is a pit for temporary storage of vegetables, 0.5-0.6 m deep and 0.4 m wide. The length is chosen arbitrarily, depending on the number of tomatoes.

The pit is covered with straw or geofabric, tomatoes are poured into it in a layer of 30-40 cm, covered with the same materials on top, and pressed with wooden shields.

In this state, the fruits are not afraid of frost at the beginning of autumn. Not all varieties are suitable for pile storage, but only those with dense pulp like Supermodel. The pile needs to be sorted out, rotten fruits removed and ventilated. Supermodel tomatoes can be stored in this state for up to one month.
